It is often said that Mike Tyson‘s mere stare closed the deal for most of his opponents. They felt a shiver down their spines. Much of the fright stemmed from the devastating punches Tyson used to bash anyone who stood opposite him in the ring. The fact that he could damage men’s heads was pretty well known. But could he hurt something more robust and durable, like a wall? An old video that resurfaced seems to support the theory.

It seems the video pertains to when Mike Tyson fought Michael Spinks. The latter’s promoter, Ronald ‘Butch’ Everett Lewis, purportedly shares that he was in the dressing room with Mike Tyson. He wanted to agitate him a bit. But then, as he walked towards him, “...he is punching. Standing there, he’s punching holes in the wall. I am like to myself. Oh no! This guy is getting ready to fight my little guy. And he is punching holes in the wall before he goes out to fight. Oh no!”

A user stated matter-of-factly that a twelve-year-old could punch through a wall. Hence, the real reason behind Mike Tyson’s spine-chilling reputation was his ability to strike fear in the hearts of his opponents with his powerful punches, often leaving them broken and wounded. He said, “A 12-year-old kid can punch holes in a wall. Tyson is scary because he punches holes in people.”

According to this fan, an ignorant lot had joined to criticize Mike Tyson. But the fact remains that they won’t be able to handle a punch from the weakest amateur boxer from a neighborhood gym, much less the real deal. “[The people] who are [dissing] Tyson in here can’t even take a punch from the weakest amateur boxer at your gym next door, let alone Mike f****ng Tyson.. their ignorance is hilarious, lol.” The fan said.

Then, according to this user, if a person is hitting walls, he is either mad as hell or nuts like Mike Tyson: “Hittin walls, either you’re angry a** or crazy like Tyson.”

Then, the following user believed that there was no way any of today’s boxers could overcome Mike Tyson in his prime. They won’t even make it to round six, “Prime Mike would beat the shit out of today’s boxers; they won’t make [it] to the round-up, then 6.”

Finally, the following fan suggested that Mike Tyson might be the most frightening boxer anyone could ever encounter. Nevertheless, Jon Jones might be the only fighter to match the youngest Heavyweight champion. He said, “Tyson is probably the scariest guy you can fight. The only fighter near his death sight is Jon Jones.”

A Battle – Once and (not) For All

Many took the opportunity to take a dig, checking for the type of wall that stood. Mike Tyson faced Michael Spinks on June 27, 1988. So reportedly, his promoter, ‘Butch’ Lewis, decided to use intimidation tactics. Hence, he demanded that Tyson re-wrap his hands. It resulted in the match starting late. It all led to Tyson getting angry. As per several accounts, Michael Spinks was scared and refused to leave the dressing room. But somehow, he managed to enter the ring, and Tyson took barely 90 seconds to finish off ‘Jinx.’
