‘He needs to make it messy’ – Tyson Fury advised to risk referee’s punishment with tactics in Oleksandr Usyk undisputed fight

Tyson Fury has been urged to use a ‘messy’ tactical plan to beat Oleksandr Usyk.

The ‘Gypsy King’ is set to face the sternest examination of his career to date when he takes on undefeated Usyk for the undisputed world titles on May 18 in Saudi Arabia.

Fury holds a significant size advantage over his rival, standing at 6ft 9ins in comparison to his rival’s 6ft 3ins frame, and will be expected to use it as a key for victory on the night.

And British star Denzel Bentley, who was speaking to raise awareness for Steel Warriors’ anti-knife crime campaign, insisted Fury could toe the line of being deducted points if he exploits his advantages.

He told talkSPORT.com: “Fury cuts quite easily so I don’t think anything will happen because of the cut in sparring. If he is going to get cut, he will get cut anyway.

“It’s a good fight between the two, Fury has more of an advantage but Usyk is an excellent boxer.

“He has great movement and he’s fought some heavy guys and he’s managed to outbox them.

“His strengths in this fight are the fact he is a heavyweight that is happy to box and move around.

“Fury’s going to find trouble getting in but when he does he is going to lean, hold and make it messy.

“And if he can do that, I’m going to go with Fury if he can make it messy if the referee allows him to and doesn’t punish him.

“I’m going Fury on points but loosely, it is going to be a close fight.”

Fury is expected to weigh significantly more than Usyk, so will want to use his extra mass to tire out his effortlessly dynamic fellow champion.
Fans worry for Tyson Fury as new training footage surfaces three weeks ahead of his fight with Oleksandr Usyk
A win for the Brit will see him make history and become the first undisputed king of the division in the four-belt era.

The WBC champion is looking to make improvements after his tough win against Francis Ngannou in October 2023.

He has already made a remarkable transformation and looks in frightening shape going into the fight.

His promoter Frank Warren has even claimed it is the best he has been in during his 15-year professional career.

He said during an interview on talkSPORT Fight Night: “He’s in tremendous shape not just physically but mentally.

“I’m confident we are going to get a vintage performance, I spoke to him during the week.

“Physically I have never seen him look so well. The worry was going straight into a training camp was that he’d peak too soon.

“He has worked really hard so that he is in his best nick on May 18.”
