Fighter aiming to break Mike Tyson's incredible record scores huge win on Tyson Fury vs Oleksandr Usyk undercard

A fighter aiming to break Mike Tyson’s incredible boxing record scored a huge win on the undercard of Tyson Fury vs. Oleksandr Usyk.

The undisputed clash between Fury and Usyk is just hours away as the WBC, WBA (super), IBF and WBO world titles are all on the line.

Elsewhere on the card, Jai Opetaia runs it back with Mairis Briedis while Joe Cordina defends his IBF super-featherweight world title against Anthony Cacace.

Budding heavyweight star Moses Itauma was also in action as he stopped Ilja Mezencev to win the WBO intercontinental heavyweight title.

Itauma, 19, now boasts a 9-0 pro record, including seven stoppages, having destroyed Mezencev.

He’s not just one of the brightest prospects in the heavyweight division but the whole sport.

And he’s looking to become the youngest world heavyweight champion in history – a record which boxing legend Tyson owns.

Incredibly, ‘Iron’ Mike captured the WBC world heavyweight title aged just 20 years and 145 days when he destroyed Trevor Berbick back in November 1986.

Itauma, who turns 20 on December 28, harbours ambitions of becoming the youngest world heavyweight champion and he met Tyson ahead of potentially breaking his record.

The youngster met Tyson at the Anthony Joshua vs. Francis Ngannou event and received advice from the iconic American boxer.

On his meeting with the 57-year-old, who is set to return to action against Jake Paul, he said: “If I was overwhelmed by people I wouldn’t be where I am today.”

Itauma added: “Mike Tyson has achieved a lot of great things in his career but he’s only a human being. It was a privilege to be in his presence, but he’s human, I’m human, I don’t idolise people like that. I have taken more inspiration from working with Tyson Fury in Saudi Arabia.

“We don’t have the same upbringing, but it’s not too different, and I’m learning from him. To be honest, that was more valuable than meeting Mike Tyson.”

Itauma has sparred with Fury and Joshua as he registered the ninth victory of his career against Mezencev.
