David and Victoria Beckham planned their secret escape tunnel because of their fear of breaking in, really?

Planning documents reveal the family want to create an underground passage linking the family’s nine-bed Cotswold pad to their luxury car garage.

The couple can also enjoy a tipple as they also have plans for a wine cellar at the luxury mansion which already boasts a tennis court, tree house and extensive gardens.

Alongside this, the family have also asked the council to build a security hut just weeks after Tottenham midfielder Dele Alli was robbed at knifepoint at his North London mansion.

Alli suffered minor facial injuries after being punched in the face when two males broke in through a back entrance to steal jewellery including a number of expensive watches.

Amid the coronavirus outbreak and lockdown, David and Victoria are self-isolating in their Cotswolds family home with three out of their four children:

Romeo Beckham, 17, Cruz Beckham, 15 and Harper Seven Beckham, eight.

Their 21-year-old son, Brooklyn is currently holed up in New York with his girlfriend Nicola Peltz, 25.

In planning documents, David and Victoria’s planning agent said of the plans: “The proposed development includes a new basement cellar constructed beneath the extension to the existing garage outbuilding with a linked walkway.

“The basement cellar beneath is for storage of wine and the proposed use of the outbuilding is solely in association with the main dwelling house.

“It will improve security for the occupants of the property.

“The proposed [garage] extension adds three new bays to the existing garage outbuilding, increasing the building from four bays to seven.”

David and Victoria bought the site in Oxfordshire from Nicholas Johnston in 2016.

Mr Johnston is an old Etonian and an acquaintance of former Prime Minister David Cameron.

The property lies in a belt of celebrity country homes, where neighbours include Kate Moss, Jeremy Clarkson and Sir Patrick Stewart.

The family’s nine-bedroom barn conversion boasts rustic decor, a dining room with a long wooden dining table with leather-backed chairs and two chandeliers, and a spacious living room featuring hardwood floors, an open fireplace, exposed brick, and floor-to-ceiling windows.

Meanwhile, the kitchen is a classic country kitchen with wood and glass cabinets and is home to a wood-burning pizza oven.

The living room is outfitted with a glass-and-gold coffee table, a yellow velvet chair, leather benches, a gold candelabra, and a red rug.

Outside, there is a plunge pool and a fire pit for the family to enjoy.

The footballer’s local council will determine the plans in due course.

Representatives of David and Victoria Beckham declined to comment when approached by Express.co.uk today.
