Anthony Joshua confirms the date, location and four-man shortlist for his next fight… before revealing Saudi Arabia’s plans for a fight with Tyson Fury

Anthony Joshua has revealed how his next fight could take place on September 20 or 21 at Wembley Stadium in London.

AJ also opened up on who could be in the opposite corner, having last taken to the ring to face Francis Ngannou on March 8.

AJ – who knocked Ngannou out inside two rounds of their bout in Saudi Arabia – said his next opponent will depend on the June 1 card in Riyadh.

The June 1 card will see Deontay Wilder take on Zhilei Zhang and Filip Hrgovic take on Daniel Dubois as part of the Matchroom vs Queensberry 5v5 event.

Joshua has revealed how he will take on the winner of either bout and that the deciding factor as to who he fights will depend on their performance.

AJ has said he and His Excellency Turki Alalshikh are looking to arrange the ‘most entertaining’ fights for the fans.

Therefore, AJ – who forced a stoppage against Otto Wallin on the Day of Reckoning card in December 2023 – will face whoever puts on the best performance on June 1.

Speaking to talkSPORT, Joshua said: ‘Whenever they tell me there’s a date, you know I’ll be ready 100 per cent. It’s gonna be in London, Wembley Stadium.

‘This is what I’m being told. If that’s what they say, they normally back their word so let’s go with that. Wembley, September 20 or 21.’

When asked who he and His Excellency were targeting as his next opponent, Joshua said: ‘On June 1 in Saudi Arabia they’ve got the 5 vs 5 card.’

The British heavyweight superstar went on to add: ‘You’ve got Filip Hrgovic vs Daniel Dubois, and you’ve got Zhilei Zhang vs Deontay Wilder.

‘So providing one of those looks good – the one who looks the best, His Excellency Turki Alalshikh said to me, ‘I want you to fight [him].’

‘What he says is, ‘In the future I want people to look back at your record and say that you took on the best.’ I said, ‘now you’re speaking my language.’

Deontay Wilder’s clash with Joseph Parker at the Kingdom Arena in Saudi Arabia in 2023 went all 12 rounds, with the judges scoring the bout 118-111, 120-108, 120-108 to Parker

His Excellency is also interested in making AJ vs Fury after the Gypsy King faces Usyk

Joshua has returned to form, beating Ngannou and Otto Wallin after losing to Usyk twice

‘So out of that pool, I believe that’s who I’m gonna be fighting, one of those. We’re on the same page and he’s on the same page as the fans as well.

‘He’s trying to deliver what the fans want, I know they want that big fight with Tyson Fury and he’s working on it.

‘But Fury’s got his obligations with Oleksandr Usyk so I’ve gotta make sure I stay focused and disciplined, keep steamrolling through opponents so I can get closer and closer to having the opportunity of me vs Tyson Fury.’

AJ finished by saying: ‘I pray that he does his thing, I pray that Zhang does his thing. Whichever one looks good and whichever one His Excellency wants, I’m ready.’
