Princess Kate’s three secret messages from Trooping the Colour that you missed

Princess Kate’s three secret messages from Trooping the Colour that you missed

A fashion expert reveals the three hidden messages Princess Kate was trying to communicate with her style choice at Trooping the Colour.

The Princess of Wales melted the nation’s hearts when she gave us a wave from the Buckingham Palace balcony for the first time in six months during Trooping the Colour last weekend.

Princess Kate’s triumphant appearance does not mean that she’ll make a full return to royal duties, however, it did give the public a good reassurance boost and showcased the Royal Family’s unity in all its glory.

But it looks like apart from celebrating the King’s official birthday, the future Queen, who looked sensational in an upcycled monochrome Jenny Packham dress, Jimmy Choo heels, matching Philip Treacy hat and Mulberry clutch, could also have wanted to communicate certain messages to the public with her impeccable style choice, according to a fashion expert.

Megan Watkins, Head Stylist at online fashion destination SilkFred, commented on the Princess of Wales’s Trooping the Colour outfit and pinpointed three key details which could be seen as messages from the beloved royal.

Here, the Express takes a look at all three of them.

According to Ms Watkins, the princess could have wanted to express her gratitude to the public by choosing British brands for an appearance “we were all waiting for”.

The style expert explained: “Staying true to her signature classic yet fashion-forward style, Kate stepped out in a monochrome Jenny Packham dress, Jimmy Choo pumps, matching Philip Treacy wide-brimmed angular hat and Mulberry clutch.

“Here, she showed her eternal love of British brands, something she’s always championed, which could be seen as a nod to her country’s support during this hard time.”

“Eagle-eyed royal watchers will notice that this is not the first time Kate has worn this knee-length Jenny Packham dress. She also wore the piece during the King’s Coronation weekend last year.”

Kate’s upcycling greatly resembled the outfit of her daughter, Princess Charlotte, who donned a navy and white dress, accessorised with white Mary Jane shoes and a white bow on her hair.

According to Ms Watkins, this mirroring could have meant to show “a strong sense of family unity and togetherness, perhaps signifying the ongoing support from her family”.

Thirdly, the Princess of Wales’s choice to wear the black and white number was deemed to have carried quite a significance in a bid to reassure the public of a brighter future.

The style expert explained: “Although her outfit had accents of black, it was mainly white, a colour that traditionally is a symbol of hope, purity and rebirth, perhaps hinting at better times to come.

“Although Kate has always loved a good monochrome moment, and therefore was staying true to her signature style – there was something more moving about eschewing colour on her first appearance since Christmas. Although it could perhaps suggest that she’s not quite ready to dive into bold summer colours, I believe it was also a concerted effort to not take any attention away from the King.”

Ms Watkins concluded: “Kate has always been a master of ‘reading the room’ with her fashion choices, and her outfits often feel like nothing is chosen without careful consideration, and her appearance at Trooping the Colour was no exception.

The coordination with her children, going for a dress she’s worn before and the choice of black and white showed a beacon of hope for the Princess, her love of family and why she will always be our formal fashion inspiration.”
