Oprah Winfrey Was Slammed For Saying This About Prince Harry And Meghan Markle After The Queen’s Death

Oprah Winfrey has come under fire for defending Prince Harry and Meghan Markle and suggesting that the couple could “make peace” with the royal family after Queen Elizabeth II’s death.

The 68-year-old talk show host made the controversial comment in an interview with Extra during the Toronto Film Festival, when asked whether she thinks the Queen’s passing could potentially “heal some wounds” within the royal family, after the Duke and Duchess of Sussex sensationally stepped down as senior royals back in January 2020, and after her own bombshell interview with the couple (which Prince William is said to still be very angry about) in March 2021.

prince harry meghan markle oprah interview“Well, this is what I think,” Oprah began. “I think in all families — you know, my father passed recently, this summer — and when all families come together for a common ceremony, the ritual of, you know, burying your dead, there’s an opportunity for peacemaking. And hopefully, there will be that.”

However, her comments didn’t land well on social media, with many people taking to Twitter to slam the talk show host and essentially blame her for being responsible for some of the fallout within the family due to the aforementioned explosive interview.

“Oprah has a lot to answer. She is directly responsible for creating a snowball that accelerated the demise of #QueenElizabeth,” one Twitter user wrote. “Oprah forgets she started this. Maybe an apology would help with the peacemaking,” wrote another. Another said: “Oprah is the real villain in this entire scenario from the start. Who made, by far, the most money from it? Oprah! It’s about Oprah and not making significant contribution to Harry & Meghan. Current events concerning the Royal Family are for saying farewell, Queen Elizabeth II.”

Piers Morgan also entered the chat (we knew it wouldn’t be long ’til he weighed in) writing: “Great to see Oprah Winfrey call for a healing of massive rifts in the Royal Family … that she enabled.”

Morgan also talked about Oprah’s “hypocrisy” when speaking with Petronella Wyatt and Lady Victoria Hervey on his Talk TV show, Uncensored, on Tuesday, September 13th. “Let’s talk for a moment, Oprah Winfrey popped up yesterday in an interview. She popped up saying she hopes that this family, that the death of the Queen can help heal the rifts the Royal Family,” the former Good Morning Britain presenter began.

“I thought, ‘Are you kidding? You’re the one that started the rift! You enabled these two to go on national television and let them, without challenging any of their statements, let them spray down the royals.'”

Lady Victoria Hervey added: “She needs to stay away! She’s the reason. When Prince Philip was dying in hospital they did that interview. It’s a disgrace!” Piers responded by saying, “I’m more interested in Oprah’s hypocrisy where she says, ‘I hope they can heal the rift.’ Well, Oprah, you did nothing to stop that rift.”
