Speculation is mounting that The Queen’s Marriage will include new cheating claims about PRINCE PHILIP, especially surrounding his close friendship with LADY PENELOPE BRABOURNE, the new COUNTESS MOUNTBATTEN.

Lady C has long been the scourge of the royal establishment, with her 1992 biography on PRINCESS DIANA, Diana In Private, revealing for the first time just how unhappy she was in her marriage to PRINCE CHARLES.

Lady C was dismissed as a fantasist but her revelations about Di’s bulimia and affair with JAMES HEWITT turned out to be true.

Now questions are being asked, given the age of the Duke of Edinburgh, who turned 97 this month, whether the publication of this book is appropriate.

In an exclusive interview, she says of the press conference: “I’m absolutely dreading it.

“Writing the truth has so far proven to be a very discomforting experience, and I only hope that our society has progressed to the stage where one can finally speak the truth without being lambasted.

“I always just write the truth and let the chips fall where they may.

“And all of historical characters, their private lives impact their public lives as well, and it is fair game for examination.”

Lady C insists she is fond of both Prince Philip and the Queen and denies the book will sensationalise any cheating claims.

She says: “The way they have made their marriage work as a partnership for the good, not only of this country, but of the Commonwealth and some would say of the world.

“I focus very much on the realities of their lives and what the realities are all about.

“Of course, one also has to examine rumours and deal with speculation but I’m very fortunate in that I know people very close to them.

“You know, friends of mine for nearly 50 years are very close friends of various of the participants, so I know exactly what has really gone on.”

Lady C deflects a question over whether the book will provide comfortable reading for the Queen, but tellingly says: “I think it will provide insight for the public to see exactly what has gone on, why it has gone on and to what extent it has worked well for all parties involved.”

The socialite author says she has not been influenced by the portrayal of Prince Philip as a love rat in Netflix series, The Crown, which she slams as “complete fiction”.

She says: “It contains so many howlers. So much is fabulous theatre but completely fictionalised, it’s untrue. It bears no relationship to the truth.”

And Lady C says she has “never had any pressure from the Palace” to tone down her revelations.

She explains: “What I have written stands the test of time and if it’s going to come out it may as well come out through somebody who is even-handed and balanced, and has no anti-Monarchist agenda.”

Whether the royals agree when they hear her revelations is another matter.

There’s a dark side to Love Island I can’t shake off

A MUTANT world where every citizen has abs of steel, bulging biceps and a chiselled jawline or a tiny waist, luscious lips and permanent make-up.

That visual perfection might be why we are all watching Love Island in record numbers this summer – and I’m as hooked as anyone.

But it has left me with a genuine moral dilemma, because there is a dark side to the show that I just can’t quite shake off.

What message are we sending to the addicted teenagers when every single contestant has a perfect body – and every decision they make is based on how someone looks?

It’s hard enough as it is to battle your weight or body-image issues growing up, but at least early incarnations of reality TV featured a cross section of all of us.

For all their faults, the beauty of JADE GOODY (Big Brother), KERRY KATONA (Atomic Kitten then I’m A Celebrity) or SHAYNE WARD (The X Factor) was that it felt like our next door neighbour becoming a superstar.

The Love Island contestants certainly don’t look like any of my neighbours or mates from school, they’re the aesthetic elite.

After all, this is a world where Alex George – the Welsh answer to GEORGE CLOONEY’s Doug Ross in ER – simply can’t get himself a date.

Every decision on Love Island is made on a purely carnal basis and nothing to do with emotional compatibility.

In fact, this week we witnessed some of the contestants claim they were NOT compatible with Alex because he is intelligent and they’re not.

This was said with a sense of pride, rather than embarrassment.

Even more depressing was Essex glamour model Megan Barton Hanson’s decision to pick ridiculous faux hippie Eyal Booker instead of Alex.

She soon regretted it, but went on to snog the model, spurning the doctor.

The self-confessed Love Island superfan who, like me, has a long history of battling with her weight and self-confidence, told me: “My little sister is soon to be 12 and I worry that she feels in order to have a relationship she sort of has to have, what society would say, the perfect image.

“Everyone is different so we should maybe show that actually everyone’s different and that you can find love whatever you look like.

“I do just worry that we are sending a message saying that this is the way that you have got to look.”

The immediate way to address this is by producers sending in some interesting, funny and attractive contestants with big personalities and, shock horror, big bodies too.

I’m told the pop megastar has long clashed with actress CATE BLANCHETT over the Umbrella singer’s time- keeping.

The Aussie actress is scornful of Rihanna’s constant tardiness, which she has privately branded unprofessional and selfish.

This week there were also rows over a photocall with the female stars – and who would stand next to who.

As it turned out, RiRi didn’t even bother to turn up for it.

Other arguments included one over who got the biggest suite in the hotel room.

Imagine the difficulties in bringing this group back for a sequel.

WHAT will we do without this remarkable 92-year-old who brings us all together.

Take Thursday, for example.

She shone in Grenfell Green, as the nation marked the one-year anniversary of the tower tragedy.

She also sent a message to her ice-cold relatives that The Firm must accept PRINCE HARRY’s wife MEGHAN MARKLE as family, immediately.

Laughing together like old friends, there was genuine joy in the monarch’s eyes.

THE Weakest Link quiz mistress has my respect for being honest and fearless in her public declarations in an era where her BBC colleagues are afraid of even the slightest Twitter backlash.

This week she declared she was “done” with the #MeToo movement and it “needs to be put to bed”.

She even accused celebrities like UMA THURMAN, GWYNETH PALTROW and ANGELINA JOLIE for using the HARVEY WEINSTEIN scandal to enhance their own images.

In this climate, that’s brave.

NO wonder TAYLOR SWIFT is struggling to shift tickets for her Reputation tour, with tens of thousands of expensive seats unsold.

Her self-obsession and refusal to deal with the media, despite constant attempts to manipulate coverage, has finally turned British fans off.

Latest album Reputation has only sold around 100,000 copies here, while 1989 has sold 1.2 million.

It’s a shame because for a long time Taylor was the best pop star on the planet.

IF only the Queen’s children could learn from their faultless mother.

Sadly, they remain as tone deaf as ever.

Case in point this week when minor and unpopular royal PRINCE EDWARD spent £5,000 of our money to fly 130 miles on a private jet, when a plane ticket would have cost just £60.

As the very reasonable royal expert Ingrid Seward points out, the decision was “not very green”.

I think it’s about time his relatives stop preaching to us about the environment.
