Loose Women’s Charlene White has recalled the terrifying experience of witnessing a street robbery, remembering the horrifying moment that she heard a woman screaming.

ITV newsreader Charlene, 43, spoke about the scary ordeal on the episode of Loose Women on Thursday 18 April, where she told her co-stars about feeling suspicious of two young people riding past on bikes and then realising that they had just robbed someone.

She explained that she had been at a bus stop when two young people wearing balaclavas cycled past her and quickly turned a corner of the road, before she heard a woman screaming.

Charlene admitted she had felt “annoyed” with herself for not taking a photo of them, which she had thought about doing because she felt suspicious.

She said: “As I was walking towards the bus stop two bikes came in front of me. I looked up and I realised they were wearing balaclavas.

“Now living in London, there’s a load of cyclists and cyclists do wear balaclavas because it protects them from the cold air. But it’s very rare to see it on younger cyclists. So I was like, ‘Something doesn’t seem right’. I’m really annoyed with myself because I said ‘It doesn’t seem right because I know what they’re about to do, the likelihood is that they’re going to try to steal somebody’s phone’.”

The TV star continued: “So I was like ‘I need to take a picture’ and then I didn’t, and then they turned a corner and about 20 seconds later I heard a woman scream and they had stolen her phone.”

Earlier this year, Charlene told fans about an allergic reaction she had been suffering around her eyes, asking people not to comment on her appearance on Loose Women.

She posted on Instagram in February: “Before the ‘ewww what’s wrong with her eyes!!’ messages start flooding my inbox after @loosewomen, I’ve had an allergic reaction to something (and have had for months now) but it’s pretty bad this morning. Could barely open my eyes at 3am.

“But huge thank-you to Loose make-up’s @francescajordan for doing a stellar camouflage job and covering it up. And yes I know putting make-up on won’t help the situation, but it was too late to not come into work. Such is life. Anyway, swipe to see what Fran’s magic hands achieved. Very grateful. (and yes, I’m booked in with a specialist this week… finally!)”
