Eamonn Holmes didn’t hold back as he weighed in on Prince Harry’s trip to the UK.

The TV broadcaster, 64, took a swipe at the Duke of Sussex on GB News this morning as he discussed his return to British soil last Thursday. Harry, 39, attended the funeral service of his uncle, Lord Robert Fellowes, who was married to the late Princess Diana’s sister, Lady Jane, and passed away aged 82.

Also present at the church was Harry’s older brother, Prince William, with the warring siblings said to have been ‘discreet’ with one another. It is believed that Harry’s wife Meghan Markle remained at home in Los Angeles, US, with their two young children, Archie, five, and Lilibet, three.

Eamonn discussed the reported possibility of Harry rejoining the monarchy and said: “We have been down this road historically, with the Duke of Windsor.” He then recalled the drama between his wife Wallis Simpson.

Royal correspondent Michael Cole then began to quote the late Queen Elizabeth II and said that people need to remember: “You are either in the Royal Family or not. You can’t be semi-detached.” To which Eamonn added: “But Micheal I would say, he can’t decide anything on his own.

“I am not talking about the royal family’s involvement I am talking about his wife’s involvement, in all of of his. How can he make this decision and say I’m heading back, I’m going to get reacquainted with everybody again?” The host then suggested Meghan, 43, was the decision maker.

Michael responded: “Yeah I think it is like any marriage, you respect your wife, or her your husband. You consult them thoroughly about such things. Her commitment I don’t think is she will ever want to come back here. She has made that claim of what she thinks about our country.”

He later added: “I feel it is the greatest pity as I feel they could and were making a valuable around this country and 54 nations of the Commonwealth. They could have done great things here, they had the backup and the support of Buckingham Palace.”

Harry has only returned to the UK a handful of times since leaving the Royal Family in 2020 – to attend the funeral of his grandparents, the late Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, and the King’s Coronation. In May, he visited London to mark the 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games.

Each time Harry visits, fans hope the family will finally put their differences aside, although the rift currently shows no sign of healing anytime soon. A close family friend told The Sun that Harry and William were sat apart at the back of the church for the funeral service.

Another source said: “I didn’t know they were there. They arrived very discreetly.” A third attendee said: “We never saw them speak to each other and they kept their distance.”
