Paul McCartney’s legendary lost guitar will gently weep no more as it was reunited with its owner more than 50 years after it was stolen.

McCartney played the distinctive Höfner bass guitar when recording The Beatles’ first two albums, including legendary hits such as “Twist and Shout” and “Love Me Do,” before using it as a backup bass for the rest of his time with the band.

He continued to play it once The Beatles had split up but it was stolen in 1972 from the back of a van in Notting Hill, London.

It subsequently disappeared until the Lost Bass Project, run by Höfner executive Nick Wass and investigative journalists Scott and Naomi Jones, sifted through more than 100 leads to track down the lost guitar in Hastings, a town on the English south coast.

“The search for the bass wasn’t just for Paul McCartney, it was for all the fans,” Wass told CNN on Friday. “It was so we could all see this … bass that kicked off Beatlemania.”

Their search was widely publicized, and they detailed the guitar’s distinguishing features, prompting the family who had the guitar to “come forward with photographs of the bass in their loft saying: ‘Is this it?’” Scott Jones told CNN on Thursday.

McCartney is “incredibly grateful to all those involved” in returning the bass to him and verified that it is the same guitar he played so often in the 1960s, according to a statement on his website.

Wass first launched the Lost Bass Project in 2018 after a conversation with McCartney himself, he told CNN on Friday, but it wasn’t until Scott and Naomi Jones joined the search after watching McCartney perform at Glastonbury that the “useful leads starting coming in.”

After issuing an appeal in the media, the crucial breakthrough came in October 2023, when the team received a tip from two of McCartney’s sound engineers who had parked the van in the Ladbroke Grove area of Notting Hill, as the former Beatle was recording an album nearby with his new band Wings.

It allowed them to discover precisely when and where the guitar had been stolen, dispelling earlier rumors that it had disappeared in 1969 just before the Beatles’ final rooftop concert.

The location also matched up with an email that Wass had received earlier that year, which he had initially “disregarded” because it “didn’t really make sense,” he said.

Wass added that he then asked for more information and the email sender said that his father had stolen the bass and taken it to Ronald Guest, landlord of the Admiral Blake pub nearby.

Meanwhile, Naomi Jones trawled through archives to verify those addresses and confirm that the story held up.

“The evidence along the way would suggest that the thief didn’t know what he was stealing that night,” Scott Jones said. “I think to him it was just a guitar and he later found out that it was Paul McCartney’s guitar.”

The thief asked Guest to “effectively hide the guitar for him,” Jones continued, and the team turned their attention to the pub, “starting to look through births, marriages and death records” and tracing “where the bass was going within the Guest family.”

Although the guitar is slightly damaged and will need some repairs before being played again, professionals will be able to restore it, the Lost Bass Project said.

“This guitar is invaluable,” Wass said. “In a sense it has no value except to Paul McCartney and to every Beatles fan in the world … it’s priceless.”

Finland was in a strange place during the Second World War. At first, the nation hoped to stay out of the conflict. That became impossible when the Russians launched the Winter War. Lauri Törni, a Finn in his early 20s, fought bravely. Thus began a multi-year odyssey that saw him fight for the militaries of three different countries.

Lauri Allan Törni was born in Viipuri, Finland in May 1919 to a ship captain father and a homemaker mother. He was a bright child who also excelled at athletics. After graduating from business school and serving with the White Guard, he enlisted in the Finnish military in 1938.

Russia launched the Winter War against Finland in November 1939. The conflict, which saw the Finns give the much more powerful Russians all they could handle, displayed the excellence of the country’s military. Törni was among those on the frontlines, serving with Jäeger Battalion 4.

Throughout the war, Törni’s battalion was among those to destroy Russian divisions. They were so successful that he was assigned to officer training and commissioned a Vänrikki (second lieutenant) in the Finnish military reserves.

As a result of his abilities, Lauri Törni was sent to Austria to train with the Waffen-SS. He spent seven weeks training with the combat force during the summer of 1941, and was commissioned as an officer when he returned to Finland. The Germans recognized the young soldier as an Untersturmführer (junior storm leader).

Conflict between Finland and Russia began, again, during 1941-44’s Continuation War. By this time, Törni was in command of a unit. Simply called Detachment Törni, the unit caused serious issues for the Russians with its talent for penetrating enemy lines. In fact, Törni’s men were so effective that Russia placed a bounty of 3,000,000 Finnish marks on his head.

The Continuation War ended in September 1944 with the Moscow Armistice. Following this, the Finnish Army was demobilized and Lauri Törni was left unemployed and worried the Russians would make another attempt to invade Finland.

The soldier joined the pro-German resistance movement in Finland, hoping to be prepared for future conflicts with Russia. He attended saboteur training in Germany, after which he joined a German unit fighting the Red Army near Schwerin. He fought with the Wehrmacht until mid-1945, when he surrendered to the British Army and was sent to a prisoner of war camp. The soldier later escaped and returned to Finland.

In 1946, Törni was arrested and tried for joining the German Army. He was convicted and sentenced to six years in prison. Two years later, however, he received a pardon from Finnish President Juho Kusti Paasikivi. Once free, the decorated soldier took off for Sweden.

While in Sweden, Lauri Törni fell in love and became engaged. Before getting married, however, he hoped to start a career working on Swedish vessels. In 1950, he jumped off one of these ships near Mobile, Alabama. He eventually made it to Sunset Park in Brooklyn, New York, which had an emigrated Finnish community.

After a few years of working as a carpenter and cleaner, Törni earned permanent residence. In 1954, the Finn joined the US Army and, before long, was training for the Special Forces. Törni trained troops in a number of skills, including guerrilla tactics, survival, skiing and mountaineering. During his time in the US military, he went by the name Larry Thorne.

Between 1958-62, Törni served in West Germany with the 10th Special Forces Group, gaining notoriety for his involvement in a search-and-rescue mission in Iran’s Zagros Mountains. He was then sent to Vietnam with Special Forces Detachment A-734. He was involved in a number of fire fights early on. For his bravery during a fierce battle in the Tịnh Biên District, Törni was awarded two Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star.

Törni returned to Vietnam for a second tour, this time with the 5th Special Forces Group. Before long, he was transferred to Military Assistance Command, Vietnam – Studies and Observations Group (MACV-SOG), with whom he served as an advisor.

During a mission in October 1965, as part of Operation Shining Brass, the Sikorsky CH-34 “Choctaw” helicopter he was flying in went missing. Rescue crews were unable to locate the site of the crash. Following the incident, Törni was awarded the Legion of Merit and Distinguished Flying Cross. He was also promoted to the rank of major.

The bodies Törni and those of his fellow soldiers weren’t discovered until 1999. Their bodies were flown back the US and interred at Arlington National Cemetery. Törni, who was formally identified four years later, is the only known former member of the SS to be buried at the hallowed site.

Böhmerland, known locally as Čechie, was a prominent motorcycle manufacturer in Czechoslovakia from 1924 until the outbreak of World War II. The brand was renowned for its unique motorcycles, primarily designed by Albin Liebisch.

Key features of these motorcycles included an exceptionally long, all-welded tube-frame chassis, advanced leading-link front forks, and solid cast aluminum wheels – a pioneering feature in the industry not commonly seen until the 1970s.

The motorcycles were powered by overhead valve single-cylinder engines, typically 600 cc (37 cu in) with a bore and stroke measuring 78 mm × 120 mm (3.1 in × 4.7 in). The Böhmerland was offered in various wheelbases, catering to different needs: the two-seat Sport, the three-seat Touren, and the four-seat Langtouren.

However, Liebisch noticed a gap in the market for a motorcycle that could cater to more than just the basic needs of commuting. When the German army came across a Böhmerland motorcycle they pressed them into service, until they broke down and were then abandoned.

Design and Features of the Böhmerland

It’s a secret so hot it could have melted the Buffalo snow, and it was sealed with a kiss on New Year’s Eve.

Fans swooned over pictures of Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s midnight kiss in Kansas City – but little did they know the couple was not only ushering in a new year but vowing to spend the rest of their lives together.

 

The anonymous creator of the Deux Moi podcast broke the news of what she called a secret ‘engagement.’ last week, claiming that a trusted source told her: ‘Taylor and Travis got engaged 12/31. They did it just the two of them alone before that party they were photographed at.’.

But the loved up couple are not ready to make it official yet.

Swift, 34, and Kelce, also 34, have so much on their plates in the coming months it is simply, ‘too soon to go public’ and make it official.

The hosts went on to discuss how it was ‘too soon’ for them to make any public and official commitment with the playoffs then still to come and Swift’s continued tour.

 

Deux Moi said: ‘They don’t want to overshadow that. It’s too soon.’

But, however level-headed this decision, Kelce had no problems making his feelings for Swift very public during Sunday’s victorious game against the Buffalo Bills.

With temperatures plummeting on the field, he warmed the hearts of millions with a sweet display just for Swift.

At one point he blew a kiss up to the VIP box where she and his family cheered him on.

At another – after one of the two touchdowns scored in what was the game of his life – he turned to where Swift whooped with joy, formed a love-heart with his hands and sent it straight to her.

It was a public declaration, clear as day that while his head was in the game, his heart was with Swift all the way.

For her part, with an ever-expanding wardrobe of hats, shirts and jackets bearing her boyfriend’s name and number 87, Swift has taken to quite literally wearing her heart on her sleeve.

Sunday was no different as she donned her red hat and cream jacket to cheer the Chiefs on alongside supermodel and actress pal Cara Delevingne, new bestie Brittany Mahomes, 28, and her putative sister-in-law Kylie Kelce, 31, whom she was meeting for the first time along with Kelce’s brother Jason.

Never backwards in coming forwards Jason, 36, stripped off to his waist, pounded Budweisers and roared into the night and the crowd as his little brother and team romped to a 27-24 win in a fiercely fought battle to remain in the running for the Super Bowl.

But while Travis has met Swift’s father and she in turn has now met and spent time with all the Kelce clan – mother Donna, father Ed and brother and sister-in-law Jason and Kylie – both Swift and Kelce know that now is not the time to be making any announcements.

In recent weeks there has been a flurry of flip-flopping headlines – they’re engaged, they’re not engaged, he’s shopping for a ring, they may not go the distance.

On January 11, Page Six reported that the couple plans to get engaged this summer.

On January 12 The Daily Mirror reported that there were ‘no plans’ for an engagement.

And on January 15, TMZ reported insiders questioning whether the relationship would even ‘go the distance.’

Day after day the rumor mill churns. And throughout it all Kelce and Swift have remained serenely and graciously silent.

Because the truth is they know exactly where they’re at in their relationship and the promise that they have made to one another.

But for now, Kelce’s focus must remain on the game, with the Chiefs facing the Baltimore Ravens next week and just one victory away from a spot in the Super Bowl in Las Vegas.

And for Swift, the consummate professional, it’s time to gear up for the next leg of her blockbuster Eras tour in Japan next month.

With four tour dates leading up to the eve of the Super Bowl on February 11, it seems unlikely Swift will be in the crowd to cheer Kelce in Vegas should the team make it through.

After that she has dates in Australia and Singapore before a couple of months break to decompress before embarking on the monster tour’s European leg which starts in France in May. It is rumored that Kelce – whose hope by then will be to have secured a third Super Bowl ring – plans to join her in Europe.

But however mindful the loved-up couple must be of each other’s careers, their commitment to each other is not in doubt, a fact on which they doubled down as 2023 gave way to 2024.

Shimmering in a silver sparkly dress, celestial-inspired hairpins completing the look, Swift toasted the New Year alongside Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, 28, and wife Brittany with whom she has become fast friends.

Little did others know that they were watching a couple seal a secret promise they had made to each other earlier that evening.

Teaming up with the popular brand to launch the Big Game Countdown Calendar — a seven day countdown that includes a variety of delicious dips and surprises for your own game day party — Mama Kelce sat down with Parade to let us in on all things entertaining and, of course, a few things about two of America’s newest sweethearts: her sons Jason and Travis.

“It’s really kind of interesting because I’ve been using them (the dips) for years.

I love their French Onion, Buttermilk Ranch, the Jalapeño Cheddar and the Heluva Good! White Cheddar Bacon,” she said.

“I also have a 7-layer dip recipe using the Jalapeño Cheddar that’s really, really tasty.”

Stating the the Countdown Calendar is “brilliant” and “one of those things that will build up the excitement towards the game,” the sports and cheese-themed advent calendar wasn’t the only thing that made Donna Kelce smile from ear-to-ear. When the topic of her boys came up, she held back nothing — especially when we touched on both Travis and Jason’s least favorite foods.

“I would definitely say any kind of vegetable for Travis. Spinach, you name it. Not a big fan of veggies,” she told Parade. “But Jason would pretty much eat anything you put in front of him as long as it had butter or cheese.”

Noting that veggies were an “afterthought” for both Kelce boys as it is for most kids, Mama Kelce did clarify that Travis — though now someone who will eat most anything (except mayo) — definitely takes the title as the pickier eater amongst the two.

Patrick Mahomes has long established himself as the best quarterback in the NFL, but this year he’s become the most elusive as well.

For what is supposed to be the Jets’ greatest strength, it presents an opportunity to deliver a loud statement.

Mahomes and the Chiefs enter their Week 4 clash against the Jets having allowed just one sack this season, tied with the Dolphins for the fewest in the league.

Mahomes has been pressured on just 25.4 percent of drop-backs, the lowest rate of his career, according to ESPN Next Gen Stats.

In the Chiefs’ Week 3 win over the Bears, Mahomes threw 24 of his 33 passes from inside the tackle box without being pressured, completing 18 of them for 212 yards and three touchdowns.

“When you look at how many times he’s been sacked and this and that, we don’t know none of that stuff until it’s brought up to us, because it doesn’t f—ing matter,” edge rusher John Franklin-Myers told The Post after practice on Wednesday. “They do a good job up front, I’m not gonna lie. Overall they do a good job protecting him, but what a challenge. We have to go in there and stop that and put more sacks on the board, put more pressure on the board and change the narrative of that.”

The Jets’ pass-rushing unit certainly talked themselves up before the season and was expected to be the teams’ deepest group. But they have just six sacks this year, tied for 10th-least in the league. In their Week 3 loss to the Patriots, the Jets did not record a single sack.

Now, they’re up against the NFL’s best.

For the Jets to have any chance against the reigning champions, it’s time for the pass-rush to back up all that talk.

“Mahomes is just a dynamic quarterback,” edge rusher Jermaine Johnson told The Post. “He’s gonna extend the play, that’s his superpower, that’s where the magic lies. …We look forward to the challenge.”

But it’s not just Mahomes’ ability to elude tacklers that has the Chiefs where they are.

Kansas City invested heavily in their offensive line this past offseason, most notably signing right tackle Jawaan Taylor to a four-year, $80 million deal. The Chiefs also signed left tackle Donovan Smith to a one-year deal worth up to $9 million.

Left guard Joe Thuney is in the third season of a five-year, $80 million deal he signed as a free agent. Center Creed Humphrey and right guard Trey Smith are in their third seasons after being drafted in the second and sixth rounds, respectively.

“They’re really good in the interior three, the tackles are experienced and athletic,” head coach Robert Saleh said. “It’s just a really good group. … There’s definitely not a weakness in the offense.”

Taylor Swift has her hands full in the meantime. She is set to release her second (Taylor’s Version) album of the year (and fourth overall), 1989 (Taylor’s Version), this fall. The album will be released on October 27.

Additionally, Swift is on a short break from her “Eras” tour. The three-hour extravaganza toured stadiums across the United States this year and played a few dates in Mexico to close out the (cruel) summer. In November, she will play a string of dates throughout Argentina and Brazil. 2024 will bring the tour to Japan, all across Europe, and back to the United States.

The 14-time Grammy-winning singer wore black velvet boots with red bottoms by Louboutin with Kelce’s No. 87 imprinted on them in red and gold jewels, per Jones.

Donna Kelce is “seemingly” weighing in on Taylor Swift’s condiment choices.

The NFL mom, whose younger son Travis Kelce is in a rumored relationship with Swift, posted a cute caption hinting at a viral moment at the Kansas City Chiefs game when Swift ate chicken tenders, ketchup and what appeared to be ranch.

On Sunday, Donna attended both of her sons’ games. Earlier in the day, she cheered on her older son Jason Kelce and the Philadelphia Eagles while they played the Washington Commanders at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia. After, she traveled to East Rutherford, N.J. to cheer for Travis, 33, as the Chiefs took on the New York Jets.

While at the Eagles game, Donna sat with Jake from State Farm, who stars in a hilarious commercial alongside Travis and Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes. There, she made mention of the “Cruel Summer” singer’s viral moment from last week’s game.

“No ‘seemingly ranch’ available at the Linc,” Donna wrote on an Instagram post with an arrow pointing to Jake (whose real name is Kevin Miles) and his plate of chicken fingers with ketchup.

The joke is a reference to last weekend, when Swift and Donna hung out in Travis’ suite at the Kansas City Chiefs and Chicago Bears game. Following the game, a photo went viral on Sept. 24 of Swift in the suite posing with a plate of chicken tenders and two sauces. A popular X account called @tswifterastour, re-shared the photo with the caption, “Taylor Swift was eating a piece of chicken with ketchup and seemingly ranch!”

The “seemingly ranch” caption delighted fans and food brands alike. The official KFC X account commented, “Our Ranch Queen,” while Hidden Valley Ranch has since changed its X name to “Seemingly Ranch.”
Heinz even took the viral moment to another level by releasing 100 limited-edition bottles of a new “Ketchup and Seemingly Ranch” sauce just days after the tweet was posted.

Jason, 35, reposted the same photo of Donna and Jake on X, and poked fun at his brother’s support from Swift. “I also have a superstar in my corner. @JakeStateFarm,” he wrote.

On Sunday night, Donna was spotted by NBC cameras in a suite at MetLife Stadium with Swift. The two were spotted hugging and giggling as Travis and his team defeated New York 23-20 in a close finish.

“Donna likes Taylor,” a source told PEOPLE, “and thinks she’s very sweet and down to earth.”

Several of Swift’s longtime friends joined her on Sunday, including Sophie Turner, Blake Lively, Robyn Lively, Ryan Reynolds, Hugh Jackman, Sabrina Carpenter and Antoni Porowski.

Brittany Mahomes, whose husband is Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, also took in the big win from inside the suite with Swift.

Chiefs tight end Blake Bell and wife Lyndsay also sported matching looks in another photo that Brittany shared, indicating that many of the players and their dates wore coordinated outfits.

An onlooker told PEOPLE that Swift’s holiday song “Christmas Tree Farm” played at the party — which took place in a semiprivate back room of the venue — and confirmed that the singer was in attendance at the celebration with her beau Kelce, 34.

“Everyone looked happy and festive” and there was “great energy” at the party, the onlooker saidseries of photos on Facebook where a customer claimed that Swift was at the bar on Friday night at the same time as she was.
