The Hollywood Star with a Bounty on His Head: Clark Gable in WWII

From Silver Screen to Airborne Hero

During World War II, numerous stories of heroism and bravery emerge, but few are as captivating as that of a B-17 gunner who drew the attention of the highest echelons of the German wartime command. This wasn’t an ordinary soldier; this was Clark Gable, Hollywood’s reigning king, who found himself targeted by the Reich, with a bounty on his head.

The tale begins with the United States entering World War II after the attack on Pearl Harbor. As America hastened to mobilize its forces in 1941, a personal tragedy would propel Gable, a star at the zenith of his career, into the fray. The untimely death of his wife, Carol Lombard, in a plane crash, coupled with her passionate involvement in the war effort, inspired Gable to enlist, much to the dismay of Hollywood and even President Franklin D. Roosevelt.

    The Journey to England

Gable’s entry into the Army Air Corps was not typical. He was offered a unique role – to make a war film about the aviators in England, combining his Hollywood expertise with a taste of real combat. This arrangement seemed to offer a balance, keeping him at arm’s length from the front lines. However, destiny had other plans for the King of Hollywood.

The B-17 Flying Fortress, a symbol of American airpower, was supposed to be an invulnerable sky fortress. Armed with 11 machine guns, it promised to repel enemy fighters with ease. But reality bit hard; the early missions from England suffered heavy losses. Gable witnessed these losses firsthand, his role gradually shifting from observer to active participant.

    Clark Gable’s Combat Debut

Gable’s first taste of combat came aboard the B-17 “Eight Ball” on a mission to Belgium. This mission, expected to be low-risk, turned out to be a harbinger of the dire straits American bomber crews would face. Gable’s engagement with enemy fighters was minimal, but the mission left its mark, giving him a firsthand experience of the war’s harsh realities.

Initially viewed with skepticism by fellow airmen, Gable soon earned their respect. His humility and eagerness to share the burdens of war endeared him to the men. Gable was a comrade, sharing the risks and losses of war.

    Germany’s Obsession and the Bounty

The upper echelons of the German wartime command, admirers of Gable’s pre-war films, had initially hoped to capture the actor for their propaganda machine. Frustrated by their inability to acquire Gable peacefully, the high command, through their channels, placed a substantial bounty on him. This edict made every mission Gable flew a game of high stakes, with his life and propaganda value hanging in the balance.

Gable’s missions grew increasingly perilous. His flight aboard the “Ain’t It Gruesome” to the Ruhr Valley in Germany was a turning point. The mission faced fierce resistance; flak and enemy fighters battered the B-17s. Gable narrowly escaped death when a flak round pierced his aircraft, a chilling reminder of the bounty on his head.

The Toll of War and Compassion

The impact of war wasn’t lost on Gable. Witnessing death and destruction moved him profoundly. He spent his off-days writing to the families of fallen airmen, a gesture that further cemented his bond with the crew and showcased the depth of his character.

Gable’s last mission, aboard “The Duchess,” was less eventful but significant in marking the end of his combat role. Pressure from MGM and the realization of the risk he posed eventually led to his reassignment away from the front lines. Gable returned to the U.S. with invaluable footage that would later become part of the documentary “Combat America,” offering a unique glimpse into the life of a B-17 crew during one of the most turbulent times in history.

In retrospect, Clark Gable’s wartime service was a testament to his courage, a shift from the glitz of Hollywood to the grim realities of war. Gable didn’t just play a hero on screen; he lived it, flying dangerous missions and risking his life, driven by a sense of duty and a desire to honor his late wife’s memory.

“That Was Nice Of Her” – Johnny Cash’s Stone-Faced Reaction To Dolly Parton Admitting She Had “Horny” Feelings For Him

Dolly Parton Johnny Cash country music
    Don Hunstein

It’s well-documented that Dolly Parton had a huge crush on the Man in Black back in the day.

And though it kinda goes without saying, even Dolly couldn’t resist Johnny Cash’s undeniable charisma, charm and all-around good looks that made him one of the most recognizable and iconic artists in all of music. I mean, who could blame the girl?

But until now, we had never really heard Johnny’s take on that moment when Dolly first realized she was into him, which was actually when she saw him perform on the Grand Ole Opry for the first time when she was a very young teenager.

And you’d have to imagine that any man on the planet would be completely flattered knowing they were Dolly Parton’s first crush, but Johnny had an interesting reaction to finding that out.

Back in 1997, Johnny appeared on Ralph Emory On The Record in promotion of his book Cash, in which he talks about being the first person to introduce Dolly at the Opry when she was just 13 years old.

Ralph then played some of Dolly’s comments for Johnny to watch from an episode she was on previously, where she elaborated on those feelings she got the first time she saw him and realized what sex appeal was:

“Johnny Cash was the person that introduced me that night. And Johnny, first time I saw him, that’s when I really, that’s when he was lean and lanky, and that’s when I first realized what sex appeal was.

I was 13 years old, it was like ‘Oh!’ It was like, holy moly, what is this? And then, little did I know, he’d be the first person to introduce me on the Opry.”

You can always count on Dolly to be 1,000% herself, and I love her for it.

And not only did she say she experienced the true meaning of sex appeal because of Johnny, but she added that it was the first time she ever felt horny, which is pretty damn hilarious hearing that from the ultimate southern belle herself:

“I didn’t say anything, my mouth just flew open. Well first, I had seen him on stage, and I had all these feelings. Which now I know is just being horny. Well, sex appeal, or something… I don’t know if that’s exactly the word. That’s what I was.”

And while you would think Johnny would’ve been at least slightly animated, or even a little flustered, by the compliment, he was pretty stoic in his very simple response:

“I really appreciate that, that was nice of her.”

Dolly Parton, an extremely well-known sex symbol in her own right, just said Johnny was the first man that ever made her horny and that’s all he’s got to say about it?

I mean, I expected just a little bit more than that, but hey, I think it’s safe to say that Mrs. June Carter Cash probably appreciated that response. Johnny was a smart man, indeed…

Check it out that part of the interview, it’s easily the best thing you’ll watch all day:

And back in the early ’80s, Dolly took part in a gospel record with Willie Nelson, Kris Kristofferson and Brenda Lee, which was eventually turned into a television special hosted by Johnny Cash.

So she did eventually got her big moment on stage with her former crush, and I imagine it was a pretty full circle moment from decades before when she first met Johnny:

"A mistake she's going to regret forever": 'Jolene' Singer Dolly Parton Delivers an Ultimatum To Miley Cyrus After Family Feud Spirals Out of Control

Singer-songwriter Dolly Parton is regarded as a country legend who has reportedly sold nearly 100 million records. She is known as one of the best-selling music artists of all time. Her successful and popular songs include Jolene, I Will Always Love You, 9 to 5, and more.

The Grammy Award-winner is also known as the God Mother of Pop Star Miley Cyrus. Over the years, the audience has seen the two of them share the stage and perform Parton’s popular song Jolene together, strengthening their bond. Dolly Parton is also close to Billy Ray Cyrus, and recent reports suggest that she has been trying to mend things between Miley and Billy Ray Cyrus ever since their family feud became public.

Dolly Parton not happy with the situation between Miley Cyrus and Billy Ray Cyrus

Dolly Parton has been a close friend of Billy Ray Cyrus since the 1990s and is also known to be the God Mother of Miley Cyrus. She has appeared on a couple of episodes of Miley Cyrus’ Hannah Montana as Aunty Dolly. The country singer is reportedly not happy with the situation the father-daughter duo are in.

It is no hidden fact that the two of them have had a rocky relationship over the years, but they have always managed to support each other. Miley and Billy Ray Cyrus’ relationship hit a low point after Billy Ray Cyrus announced his separation from Tish Cyrus. According to reports by In Touch, Dolly Parton, who is very close to the family, does not like the fact that the father-daughter is not on talking terms. The insider mentioned,
“Dolly told Miley she admires her principles, but cutting her own father out of her life is a mistake she’s going to regret forever. And she told Billy Ray to apologize to Mileyᅳeven if he feels like he has nothing to apologize for.”

Sources have further noted that Parton’s attempts to resolve the issue between the two of them might be helping the family overcome their issues, as neither of them wants to upset or disappoint her.

The rift between Miley Cyrus and Billy Ray Cyrus was evidently noticed at the time when Miley Cyrus accepted her Grammy Awards on 5th February 2024. She apparently kept her father off the list of people she thanked while accepting the award, even though, managed to squeeze in a thank you for her mother and siblings; Brandi and Trace Cyrus, leaving Noah and Braison off the list.

According to reports by The Things, on Dolly Parton’s advice, Billy Ray Cyrus had tried to reach out to their daughter Miley Cyrus on various occasions and with her winning her first Grammy, he wanted to congratulate her, but it seemed like the kids have picked their sides.

After Miley Cyrus along with siblings Brandi and Trace Cyrus attended their mother Tish Cyrus’ wedding to Dominic Purcell and skipped their father’s to singer Firerose a few months later, it showcased that they had picked their sides. The source said,
“Family dynamics haven’t been the same since the divorce, and now that Tish and Billy Ray are with other people, there’s even more division among them all.”

Reports from US Weekly have mentioned that Miley Cyrus’ younger sister Noah Cyrus has always been close with Billy Ray Cyrus, and her loyalty towards her father has resulted in a rift between her and Miley. There have been new claims coming out in public (via US Weekly) about the reason why Noah skipped her mother’s wedding and that was because she was allegedly seeing Tish Cyrus’ now-husband Dominic Purcell when her mother started to pursue him.

The claims of Noah being distraught over her mother stealing Dominic from her have started to circle, and it has been reported that she was not invited to the wedding. Sources allege that Tish Cyrus wanted a peaceful wedding and was worried that Noah could cause a scene. However, it should be known that these claims are not addressed by either of the people involved.

Reba McEntire sent some birthday wishes to a very special somebody — her son.

On Friday, the “Fancy” musician, 68, shared an Instagram tribute to her son Shelby Blackstock in honor of his 34th birthday.

Alongside a photo of the pair, in which McEntire looks pensive in a blue button-down shirt and Shelby is looking off into the distance clad in a cream polo shirt, she offered her son some sweet birthday wishes.

“I sure feel a lot better today than I did 34 years ago! 🙂 From the first second I found out I was pregnant, up to today, this child is one of the biggest blessings of my life. Thank you, God for letting me experience being a mama. I love you, Shelby, with all my heart mind and soul. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️” the country icon wrote on the social media platform.

McEntire shares Shelby with her ex-husband Narvel Blackstock, with whom she had their son one year after they tied the knot in 1989. The two were married for 26 years before divorcing in 2015.

In October 2022, McEntire opened up to PEOPLE about her adult son, saying, “I’m very proud of him. … He’s always trying to improve and do better. His daddy did a great job too.”

She continued, “Shelby is a gift from God to me. We’re very close. I was a very self-centered person to a degree before Shelby. But then there’s a little character who you are given the job to protect and nurture and love and teach, so all the attention’s not on you anymore.”

McEntire also said that she had “a lot of help” raising Shelby during her busy career.

“I had the best nannies, and I took him on the road with me,” The Voice coach said. “When I couldn’t, I would fly home after a concert, get him up in the morning, take him to school and pick him up. We’d play until I had to fly out again for a concert that night. I wanted to be with Shelby. Still do.”

In a December 2023 interview with PEOPLE, McEntire said that her joy comes in part from her son and his well-being. “I’m at a really good place in my life,” she said. “I’m happy, I’m in love. My kids are all healthy. My family’s healthy. So I’m happy.”

Reba McEntire welcomed a “powerhouse” singer to her team on The Voice after spinning her iconic red chair at the last minute. Ashley Bryant was wrapping up her cover of Carrie Underwood’s 2007 anthem, “Last Name,” during the blind auditions when McEntire turned around.

Bryant, 26, introduced herself while catching her breath. McEntire told the new addition to Team Reba that she “did a great job on Carrie’s song. She would be very proud.” The beloved country music legend

“I’ve been singing my whole life. Professionally, just about four years,” said Bryant, who said she’s from Louisville, Kentucky. “I got into a car wreck a couple years back so I’m 30% hearing in my right ear, and here I am.”

John Legend applauded Bryant’s “energy and (her) enthusiasm,” and brought up Maelyn Jarmon, who won The Voice when she competed on Legend’s team in season 16. Legend noted that the Texas-born artist also endured “significant hearing loss,” and assured Bryant that “the sky’s the limit for what you can do on this show.”

Dan + Shay — first-time coaches on The Voice and the first-ever coaching duo this season — said they knew that Bryant would be a “perfect match” with “Queen Reba,” though McEntire was “sneaky…and waited ’til the last minute!” Chance the Rapper said Bryant “should be really, really happy and excited.”

McEntire also coached Bryant’s new fiancé, Tom Nitti, on the last season of The Voice. Nitti, a former New York State Trooper and a father of two, left The Voice early to be with his family. It’s because of the show, however, that he met his fiancée. Bryant posted a photo on Instagram last week of the moment she and Nitti got engaged outside the historic Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, Tennessee. She shared at the time, “my heart is so full.” Nitti wrote in an Instagram caption of his own that he’s “happier than ever.”

EXCLUSIVE: Research throws doubt on the m:u:r:d:e:r of John Lennon in New York

Could the man jailed for John Lennon’s murder be INNOCENT? New documentary says a SECOND gunman could have fired fatal shots and questions whether killer Mark Chapman was brainwashed by CIA

A three-year investigation into the murder of John Lennon has unearthed a series of extraordinary inconsistencies – including the suggestion that detectives may have fundamentally misunderstood how the shooting happened.

British author and TV producer David Whelan has exhaustively examined Lennon’s fatal shooting on December 8, 1980, as he and his wife Yoko Ono returned to their home in the Dakota Building overlooking New York’s Central Park.

Whelan has unearthed a trove of documents relating to the killing, including gunman Mark Chapman’s ‘hit list’ – published for the first time here – which as well as the former Beatle also featured Marlon Brando and former First Lady Jackie Kennedy Onassis.

And intriguingly Whelan’s research for a forthcoming book into the former Beatle’s death has raised a series of troubling questions about exactly how the killing was carried out – and why.

Mr Whelan, 56, has spoken to key figures involved in the aftermath of the shooting. These include: the surgeon who treated Lennon and two nurses who assisted – as well as uncovering other witness testimonies which don’t appear to correspond with the official narrative.

NYPD lead detective Ron Hoffman Hoffman's  original notebook into the shooting of John Lennon

Having obtained Detective Hoffman's original notebook and other documents associated with the case, Mr Whelan pointed out that no single eyewitness, including Yoko Ono, saw Lennon being shot by Chapman. Notes made by Detective Hoffman who investigated the shooting of John Lennon

Mark Chapman's 'hit list' included John Lennon and CBS news anchor Walter Cronkite

The prosecution’s version of events, accepted by the courts, was that disturbed loner Chapman lay in wait for Lennon and shot five times, four of the bullets hitting his victim in the back. But this now appears to be riddled with contradictions.

Instead Whelan’s witnesses suggest that the way the shooting was officially recorded may have been completely wrong – with the fatal shots fired into Lennon’s chest rather than back.

The surgeon who treated Lennon and the two nurses who assisted are all adamant that Lennon was shot in the front, with the four bullets grouped closely together, suggesting a high degree of marksmanship, and three passing straight through his body and out of his rear shoulder.

Other evidence gleaned by Whelan about those who may have influenced Chapman has led him to question whether the young man might even have been ‘groomed’ for the assassination through manipulation or even hypnosis by powerful backers with links to right-wing Southern Christians, the US military or the CIA.

Whelan points to first-hand witness statements by that surgeon, Dr David Halleran, and the two nurses, Barbara Kammerer and Dea Sato, all of whom state unequivocally that Lennon was shot four times in his upper chest area from the front, with three of the bullets exiting from his left back. One round remained in his left chest or lower shoulder area.

Whelan said: ‘Between the two of them, nurses Kammerer and Sato saw Lennon’s wounds up close, three times. Twice when he was washed and shrouded.

‘Nobody was better placed to say where and how John Lennon was shot.’

Yet retired NYPD lead detective Ron Hoffman, in a recorded interview with Whelan, claimed Lennon must have been shot in the back and not in the front, stating: ‘It’s impossible because he (Lennon) was walking up the stairs in front of Yoko’.

But that in itself raises another question, says Whelan.

Eyewitnesses do agree on where Chapman was standing: just at the entrance to the Dakota’s portico, several yards from those steps and if Lennon was climbing the steps he would have been out of Chapman’s view.

Said Mr Whelan: ‘As in the case of John F Kennedy, you simply cannot get shot in the front from the back.’

He continued: ‘The hollow-point bullets Chapman supposedly used do not usually pass through a victim, as they are designed to spread out on impact, causing maximum damage to the body.’

Yet three bullets did pass through Lennon, leaving holes in the glass panels of a vestibule door attached to the security entrance of the building. Whelan claimed that the slugs’ marks in the door were too low to have come from shots to Lennon’s shoulder.

Whelan also questioned Chapman’s own recollection of the night’s events.

‘He could not coherently understand why he felt compelled to shoot John Lennon – Chapman did not remember pulling the hammer or aiming,’ said Whelan.

‘All he could remember was a voice in his head saying, “do it do it”. NYPD Lieutenant Arthur O’Connor, stated that Chapman appeared “programmed” on the night he shot Lennon.’

Chapman, even now, is adamant that he shot John Lennon four times in his back from five attempts. But Mr Whelan said: ‘It’s something I suggest, from first-hand medical testimony, he could not have credibly done.

‘Therefore, we can assume that Chapman was possibly having some kind of psychotic episode, which enabled him to think he was doing something he couldn’t have done.’

Although a post-mortem examination was carried out on Lennon’s body, the autopsy was performed by the controversial New York City Chief Medical Officer, Elliot Gross, and his report has never been released to the public.

Gross had a reputation for running a chaotic office and was later investigated over allegations of misconduct, misleading causes of deaths, and covering up evidence of police brutality. He was dismissed in 1987, though later cleared of 11 charges of negligence, misconduct, and incompetence.

Mr Whelan alleges that key information surrounding the murder was ‘hushed up’ by the NYPD and the District Attorney’s office, including 122 unidentified pills found in Chapman’s hotel room, which were supposedly sent off to a lab for drugs analysis. The results have never been revealed.

The various items found by the police which were made public are listed on a typed docket, including an expired passport, a pocket bible and a Wizard of Oz placemat. Whether Chapman’s death list was found in the hotel room isn’t clear, but it is not listed on the docket.

Having obtained Detective Hoffman’s original notebook and other documents associated with the case, Mr Whelan pointed out that no single eyewitness, including Yoko Ono, saw Lennon being shot by Chapman.

Ono’s exact location when John was shot, has changed several times, via various witness statements she gave around the time of her husband’s murder, understandably, no doubt, given her emotional turmoil.

Much more information surrounding Chapman and the murder would no doubt have emerged – and the evidence tested – in court, but no trial ever took place – and that in itself is suspicious, according to Mr Whelan.

‘Chapman’s lawyers were aiming for a trial and an insanity plea, but out of the blue, Chapman decided he wanted to forgo a trial and plead guilty, claiming that “a little voice inside his head’ told him to do this,” said Whelan.

Crucially, says Whelan, that volte-face only came after Chapman was visited in his cell by various psychiatrists employed by his defence lawyers.

Three of those doctors had been involved in hypnosis, and one of them, Dr Milton Kline, worked with the CIA on its notorious ‘MK Ultra’ mind control programme, which the Hollywood movie the Manchurian Candidate was loosely based on.

In 1979, Kline boasted in a TV documentary that a man could be programmed to murder via hypnosis, via the MK Ultra programme.

Why Kline, along with two other experts in hypnosis, was asked by the lawyers to meet Chapman, is not clear, though it is not impossible that the defence was already considering putting forward the notion that their client was hypnotised into carrying out his crime.

Items found in Chapman's room by the police which were made public are listed on a typed docket (pictured), including an expired passport, a pocket bible and a Wizard of Oz placemat

A crowd gathers look outside the Dakota Building on December 9, 1980 following the shooting of former Beatle John Lennon the night before

The steps leading to the Dakota Building overlooking New York's Central Park, where Lennon lived with his wife Yoko Ono

Another defence psychiatrist (and law professor) Bernard Diamond, who also examined Chapman, gave expert testimony along similar lines in the case of Sirhan Sirhan, who gunned down Senator Robert Kennedy in 1969.

But if Chapman were, as Whelan suggests, a patsy – or not even the shooter at all – who else would wish Lennon dead?

That, according to Whelan, can be traced right back to Lennon’s infamous 1966 quote in an interview that the Beatles were ‘more popular than Jesus’. The reaction in the Southern Bible Belt was literally incendiary, with records publicly burned and radio stations banning The Beatles songs during their US tour, despite apologies from Lennon.

Neither he nor The Beatles ever toured again.

US Intelligence agencies secretly monitored John Lennon for many years and are still concealing hundreds of pages of secret documents on him, says Whelan.

In November 1980, the newly-elected US President Ronald Reagan’s foreign policy facilitators would have known that John Lennon was a potential strong and influential future voice against any future militaristic foreign ambitions.

Added: Whelan: ‘John Lennon’s murder meant that no celebrity voices with any weight, would be heard against Reagan’s ambitions and used as a potential opposition rallying cry.

‘Could Lennon’s famous criticism of Christianity and Richard Nixon have possibly played a part in his murder, and could Christian groups associated with Chapman have deliberately, or perhaps inadvertently, programmed and groomed him to be an assassin?’

Chapman, now aged 67, first became eligible for parole in 2000 after serving twenty years in prison, much of it in solitary confinement, for his own protection, though his wife Gloria, who lives in Hawaii, is allowed regular conjugal visits to his New York prison.

Since 2000, the Parole board has denied Chapman parole every two years, a total of twelve times. Before his first parole hearing, Yoko Ono wrote to the board requesting that Chapman should remain behind bars for the rest of his life.

Whelan concluded: ‘I think Mark Chapman was potentially shooting a gun or thinking he was shooting a gun possibly blanks.

‘He thinks he’s done something he couldn’t have possibly done — therefore, the only conclusion I can come to is there might have been a second shooter or it was highly likely there was a second shooter in the vestibule area on the stairs, shooting John in a close group pattern in his upper left chest area.

‘When I spoke to the doctors and nurses at the time who treated John – and they saw his wounds many times – they all agree that whoever shot John was very close to him and standing in front one or two feet away.

‘And they managed to achieve a very professional grouping around John’s left chest area above his heart.

‘It’s almost impossible for Mark Chapman to do that from where he was and it was dark. He was 20 to 25 feet away from John.

‘It’s a disturbing, troubling assessment, I’m well aware of that, but I can see no other explanation for John’s wounds.’

Liam Payne’s concerned pals say he has ‘struggled’ to cope with life outside of One Direction – after he was ‘rushed to hospital with severe kidney pain’

Liam Payne’s concerned pals have said he has ‘struggled’ to cope with life outside of One Direction.

The singer, 30, was ‘rushed to hospital with severe kidney pain’ on a trip to Lake Como in Italy with girlfriend Kate Cassidy, The Sun reports.

A friend of Liam’s has now told the publication: ‘It doesn’t come as a huge surprise — his lifestyle has been on a bit of a downward spiral for a while.

‘Liam struggled so much in the band due to the heavy workload and being in the spotlight.

‘He was just a normal lad before One Direction, so living life in this bubble felt alien to him and the restrictions really took their toll.

A friend of Liam’s has now told the publication: ‘It doesn’t come as a huge surprise — his life-style has been on a bit of a downward spiral for a while.’

‘His partying since the band’s break could well be a reaction to this.’

It comes after Liam’s distraught mother fought back tears today as she revealed how the superstar’s family are all ‘worried sick’ over her son’s emergency dash to hospital.

Speaking from her three-storey, £360,000 detached home near Wolverhampton, Karen Payne, said: ‘We are all worried sick about it but we just have to get on. It’s horrible – him being all the way over there.

‘He’s in Milan and it sounds like he’ll be there for a week. I feel helpless’

The 62-year-old added: ‘All we can really do is sit it out here and hope for the best. There is nothing we can do. We feel helpless.

‘It’s such a horrible situation and we just hope he’s in the best place possible.’

The singer was rushed to hospital during a romantic holiday with his girlfriend after suffering with agonising kidney pain.

Liam, 30, fell ill on a trip to Lake Como in Italy with girlfriend Kate Cassidy , The Sun reports.

He announced last month that he was cancelling a tour in South America due to a ‘serious kidney infection’ which previously left him in hospital.

Insiders report that the star was celebrating his one-year anniversary with Kate when he fell ill at their holiday property and was rushed to hospital in an ambulance.

He is said to be currently in hospital and will stay for several days.

A source said: ‘Liam is in a bad way but he’s in the best place he can be and finally doctors will be able to get to the bottom of what is going on.

‘Naturally he is gutted that his and Kate’s trip to Lake Como has been ruined but at least she was there to help him when he fell ill.

‘Doctors have warned him not to expect to be signed off to go home for at least another six days.

‘They want to do every test possible to understand the issue fully but they now suspect that there has been an underlying issue for a while that has been getting worse.’

Representatives for Liam have been contacted by MailOnline for comment.

Last month Liam shared the heartbreaking news he was cancelling his upcoming tour after being ordered to ‘rest and recover’ by doctors.

Liam added a caption on the post reading: ‘It’s with a heavy heart I have to tell you that we have no other choice but to postpone my upcoming tour of South America.

‘Over the past week I’ve been in hospital with a serious kidney infection, it’s something I wouldn’t wish on anyone, and doctors orders are that I now need to rest and recover.

‘I was beyond excited to come play for you guys. To all of you who have bought tickets: I’m so sorry.

‘We’re working to re-schedule the tour as soon as we possibly can, but for now we will be refunding the tickets – so please look out for updates from your point of purchase.

‘Thanks as always for the love and support, and look forward to seeing you soon.’

Sharing a video to announce the news, Liam added: ‘This really is the last news I want to be telling you but basically I’ve been a little bit unwell recently.

‘I ended up in hospital with a bad kidney infection. We started rehearsals and I’ve been advised that now is really not the right time to be travelling on the road while I recover from this.

‘I’ve got the best people around me at home trying to help me recover as we speak, but yeah we’re gonna have to reschedule the tour.’

In July the former One Direction star opened up about his mental health and revealed doctors diagnosed him with ‘a couple of conditions’ after he spent some time in a wellness clinic in the US last year after hitting ‘rock bottom’.

The singer shared candid Instagram Stories post where he said he was having a tough day and family and friends could see he was still struggling.

Liam described ‘manic’ instances in his life and his difficulty in maintaining sober during ‘super low’ moments.

In the clip he admitted to having filmed the video numerous times before deleting, before finally deciding this was the right time to share his story with fans.

Saying: ‘So I mean I filmed a bunch for theses over time and deleted them but I don’t know whether this is the right time’,.

‘I know in my last video I mentioned I’d been diagnosed with a couple of conditions and not to go into too much detail but one of them I have is, there’s a lot of manic things in my life which you guys saw,’.

He continued: ‘But the other side of it is and that kind of feels like when when I would lose my sobriety in these moments that were super low and I felt like that today,’.

‘And it’s isolating the two things and seeing them separately and like I know what they are now’.

Before adding: ‘Luckily I have some amazing people around me that kind of look after me but I am sure they can see it in me too that I’m ‘not really here”’

He captioned the slip: ‘I’ve filmed this same video about 20 times at different points this year and got too scared to put it out by talking myself out of it’.

‘I’m coming to see how fortunate I am to be in the position I’m in… and I wanna give any of you struggling the gift I was given by sharing some of the things I learned form specialists whilst I was away’.

‘First thing I did everyday was check in and its important you don’t bottle up how you feel. Feeling is one of the amazing gifts we had and I blocked things up so long it made me sick and lash out… notice it, allow it to happen and let it pass through’.

Liam said he hit ‘rock bottom’ after appearing on Logan Paul ‘s podcast back in June 2022, and apologised for taking his anger out on everybody else.

He shared a video to his YouTube on Saturday called ‘I’m Back…’, where he opened up on seeking professional help.

Liam thanked his six-year-old son Bear and his ex-girlfriend and Bear’s mother Cheryl for supporting his decision to get better.

He added that his former bandmates Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan and Zayn Malik had ‘stuck by me’ and ‘came to my rescue’.

Sir Paul McCartney reveals how John Lennon overcame his ‘secret insecurity’ with the help of Buddy Holly

Sir Paul McCartney has revealed how John Lennon overcame his ‘secret insecurity’ with the help of Buddy Holly.

The musician, 81, explained that his Beatles bandmate hated wearing his glasses and only started wearing them after Buddy burst on to the scene with his thick frames.

The US star, who has been regarded as a pioneer for rock and roll, died aged 22 on February 3 1959 in a plane crash in Iowa along with fellow passengers and musicians Richie Valens and JP ‘The Big Bopper’ Richardson and their pilot Roger Peterson.

To mark the 65th anniversary of Buddy’s death, Bob Harris has presented a new BBC Radio 2 documentary which pays tribute to the singer’s legacy.

Speaking on the series Sir Paul, recalled how fellow band member John  stuck by his horn-rimmed glasses after Holly came out wearing a similar pair.

The musician explained that his Beatles bandmate hated wearing his glasses and only started wearing them after Buddy burst on to the scene with his thick frames

He said: ‘John had these horn-rimmed glasses at the time and if ever there would be a girl coming round John would whip his glasses off and put them in his pocket and squint as she went by.

‘And I would say, you look pretty good, the glasses are good, no, but when Buddy came along the glasses stayed on…

‘It was like Harry Potter with all the kids.’

Reflecting on Buddy in the show, Paul added: ‘Buddy Holly to us was amazing for a number of reasons.

‘On a musical level he sang and played guitar, Elvis just sang and Scotty Moore played guitar.

‘He not only played guitar, he played the solos. Normally if you played guitar there was another guy in the group who was the lead guitar who played the solos, but Buddy sang, played guitar and played the solos.

‘He also wrote the stuff. So this was like all-inclusive one-man band and we really thought that was great. We thought this is what we have to do.’

Holly’s work had a strong influence on The Beatles, with their name intended to be a homage to Holly’s backing band The Crickets.

Sir Paul, whose music publishing company owns the rights to Holly’s work, previously organised an annual festival in the singer’s honour, dubbed Buddy Holly Week, which ran from 1976 to 1999.

The programme will also feature a specially remastered version of a Holly’s song It’s So Easy recorded by Denny Laine, which Sir Paul provided to the show.

In the programme Harris introduces the record, saying: ‘Paul has also reminded us about a special album from 1977 from his great friend and musical collaborator Denny Laine, who sadly passed away in December, Holly Days.

‘He (Paul) has given us a special remastered version of It’s So Easy. Recorded in Rude Studios, Scotland, with Paul laying down the basic tracks, including some overdubs, on his four-track recorder.

‘Denny and Linda McCartney added some instrumental parts and all three joined in on the vocals. Denny sang lead and the McCartneys harmonised.’

The show, titled Listen To Me, presented by Bob Harris, is on BBC Radio 2 from 1am on Saturday February 3 and will be available on BBC Sounds.

Jimmy Carr exposes plastic surgery his doctor refuses to do – and Liam Payne had it done

Beloved comedian Jimmy Carr has lifted the lid on the cosmetic procedure his surgeon refuses to give him after his “mid-life crisis” during the global pandemic in 2020

Jimmy Carr has lifted the lid on the cosmetic procedures his plastic surgeon refuses to give him – but one lucky singer has taken the risk.

Over the past few years, the 51-year-old comic has opened up about the various tweakments he has had done to preserve his signature good looks. During the pandemic, the dad-of-one made several sweeping changes to his appearance.

Speaking at the time, he admitted to getting Botox, fillers, and upgrading his smile to help retain his youthful looks. He confessed: “I’ve gone a bit crazy with it, I’ve got the new teeth and the new hair – I’ve had a proper mid-life crisis.

“Like, right, let’s get everything done.” Now the comedian has revealed one procedure that his surgeon refuses to perform on him, even though One Direction star Liam Payne has had it done.

During an appearance on the podcast Happy Hallow Jeans alongside hosts Tom Segura and Christina P back in November 2023, Jimmy revealed his next tweakment he hopes to one day get done.

He told them: “My plastic surgeon is pretty great. When I go to see my plastic surgeon he goes, ‘Nope’. Anything I ask him about he goes, ‘No, we’re not doing that’. I’m like, ‘What are you talking about?’”

When he was asked what sort of tweakments he’d like to get done, he confessed: “I’d asked him about buccal fat reduction, one of the guys from One Direction had it done, I think its Liam [Payne].

“I’m sure you can get a picture up, but they take out the fat there [points to the sides of his mouth]. So, you go from having, I mean I’ve always had chubby little cheeks.

“It doesn’t matter how much weight I lose. I could be 50kg and I’d still have chubby cheeks. But they take out the fat from here [points to the sides of his mouth] so that you look chiselled and model-y.”

After describing the procedure, the editor showcased a before and after picture of the musician following his procedure. Jimmy gushed: “I mean look at this guy, he looks fantastic.

“But the issue is down the line everyone aged 50 goes, ‘I need you to get the fat back in there’ and it doesn’t look as good when you put it back in because that’s what ages you.”

It was at this point that the presenters reassured the star that he didn’t need to get anymore cosmetic work done. They insisted: “You don’t need anything done, Jimmy. You’re perfect.”

The comic couldn’t help but joke back: “You’re perfect the way [you are] after doing loads of stuff.” Speaking to Gabby Logan on her podcast The Mid-point, Jimmy shared what made him want to alter his appearance.

Jimmy insists his cosmetic surgery is simply maintaining what he already has

He explained: “I’ve had a little bit of Botox, some filler – everything I can get done. My face is now like Trigger’s broom from Only Fools and Horses, very little of the original is still there.” The comic insists it’s not about changing his actual face, but maintaining what he already has.

He went on: “Maintaining is the thing, I don’t think there’s anything you can do plastic surgery wise, or augmentation wise, that makes you look better. You can just sort of stay the same, that’s what you can hope for.”
