TAMPA, Florida — Aaron Judge will take two days off training due to some fatigue, which Yankees manager Aaron Boone called “typical spring wear and tear.”

Judge left Sunday’s game, a 9-8 Yankees win over the Braves in the Grapefruit League after two at-bats. Boone said it was part of a plan to get Trent Grisham more playing time.

With Judge not in any of the Yankees’ split lineups on Monday, Boone said he doesn’t expect his star hitter to play again until Wednesday against the Red Sox.

“He’s a little worn out, which is typical with all the work they do in the cage and back fields in the middle of the spring,” Boone said Monday in Clearwater, Florida.

After Sunday’s game, Judge said Boone planned his early departure.

“He talked to me before practice,” Judge said. “He said, ‘Hey, I want to talk to you. I’ve got Krish behind you. Are you okay with two at-bats?’ I was like, ‘Man, what is this, March 10? I’m fine with what you have to do.

Boone said Judge, who spent two months of last season out of action after spraining ligaments on a concrete fence at Dodger Stadium, has no issues with his right thumb.

“I think Aaron’s been really good the last few years, dealing with the irritations and seeing the little things he deals with throughout the year,” Boone added. “He handles himself and defends himself well.”

Judge has appeared in six Grapefruit League games. He has two hits with one double, one RBI, two walks and three runs scored in 14 at-bats (.143).

“I’m going to see him,” Boone continued. “I know sometimes they do a lot of things that you don’t see. Especially with your senior players, you want to make sure they’re not overdoing it this time of year. At the same time, you have to increase the intensity and get used to recovering them.”

Zayn Malik has revealed he had an eating disorder while performing with One Direction two years ago.

In excerpts from his new book, the 23-year-old says seeing pictures from 2014 makes him realise “how ill” he was.

“Something I’ve never talked about in public before, but which I have come to terms with since leaving the band, is that I was suffering from an eating disorder,” he writes.

“It wasn’t as though I had any concerns about my weight or anything like that.

“I’d just go for days – sometimes two or three days straight – without eating anything at all.

“It got quite serious, although at the time I didn’t recognise it for what it was.”

It’s not clear from the extracts published in The Sun whether Zayn had an official diagnosis, or got medical treatment for his condition.

He quit One Direction in March last year, having missed out on a number of appearances with the rest of the band due to stress.

Since then he has launched his own solo career, releasing his first album Mind of Mine in March and has started dating Gigi Hadid.

“I think it was about control. I didn’t feel like I had control over anything else in my life, but food was something I could control, so I did,” he says.

“I had lost so much weight I had become ill.

“The workload and the pace of life on the road put together with the pressures and strains of everything going on within the band had badly affected my eating habits.”

Zayn also describes how anxiety has forced him to cancel big solo gigs.

“The idea of it totally freaked me out and I was paralysed with anxiety,” he explains.

“The plan is to start performing smaller venues and work my way up from there.

“This anxiety isn’t going to get the better of me.”

The pitching staffs of longtime rivals New York and Boston are hurting as the regular season approaches.

Yankees ace Gerrit Cole will have an MRI of his right elbow after experiencing issues recovering following spring training starts while Red Sox right-hander Lucas Giolito will have surgery on Tuesday and be out indefinitely.

Both Cole and Giolito have been durable in their careers.

Cole, the 2023 AL Cy Young Award winner, has made at least 30 starts in each of the last six full regular seasons. The 29-year-old Giolito, who agreed to a $38.5 million, two-year deal with the Red Sox during the offseason, has pitched at least 160 innings in five of the last six seasons.

The Yankees had been bringing the 33-year-old Cole along slowly this sp ring, having him throw fewer pitches during his outings than the rest of the rotation. Still, Cole reported feeling a higher level of fatigue than usual between starts.

“He described it as his recovery, leading into his next start, has been more akin to what he feels in the season when he’s making 100 pitches,” Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Monday. “He usually doesn’t have the recovery issues he’s having. It’s been more of a challenge, more taxing. So we’re going to get an MRI to see what we’re dealing with here.”

Cole is entering the fifth season of a $324 million, nine-year contract that pays $36 million annually. He has the right to opt out after the season and become a free agent, but if he opts out, the Yankees can lock him up by adding a guaranteed $36 million salary for 2029.

Giolito reported discomfort in his elbow after getting tagged during a spring training appearance on March 1. He traveled to Alabama last week to get a second opinion from Dr. Jeffrey R. Dugas before opting for surgery, the extent of which is still uncertain.

“Lucas is having surgery tomorrow. The extent of it, we don’t know yet. We know it’s with the ligament,” manager Alex Cora said. “So we’ll know more tomorrow when they go in. The type of surgery, we don’t know yet.”

SEOUL SERIES SET

It will be Tyler Glasnow against Yu Darvish when the Los Angeles Dodgers and the San Diego Padres meet in the Seoul Series opener in South Korea later this month.

Glasnow, acquired by the Dodgers in the offseason and signed to a $136.5 million, five-year contract, will make the second opening day start of his career when the series begins on March 20. The 6-foot-8 right-hander went 10-7 with a 3.53 ERA last season while pitching for Tampa Bay.

Darvish will make the fourth opening day start of his career. The 37-year-old right-hander struggled at times last season, going 8-10 with a 4.56 ERA — the second highest ERA of his 11-year career — before being shut down in August due to concerns about his right elbow.

Heralded Dodgers rookie Yoshinobu Yamamoto will get his first major league start on March 21. Yamamoto, who signed a 12-year, $325-million deal with Los Angeles in December, went 70-29 with a 1.82 ERA in seven seasons with the Orix Buffaloes in his native Japan.

Joe Musgrove will get the nod for the Padres in the second game of the two-game series. Musgrove was 10-3 with a 3.05 ERA last season for the Padres before being lost for the season due to right shoulder inflammation.

BRAVES PROSPECT SMITH-SHAWVER HEADS TO MINORS

The Atlanta Braves optioned top prospect AJ Smith-Shawver to Triple-A Gwinnett on Monday, moving closer to settling on their pitching staff for opening day.

The move slows — for now anyway — the 21-year-old’s rapid rise through Atlanta’s system. Smith-Shawver began last season at Class A Rome before finishing on the big league roster for the NL Division Series.

In three starts during the exhibition season, he showed glimpses of his massive potential, recording 11 strikeouts in 7 2/3 innings. He also gave up 12 hits, seven earned runs and two homers. The decision leaves Bryce Elder and Reynaldo Lopez as the top candidates for the final spot in Atlanta’s starting rotation.

DIAZ DAZZLES

An unwanted year off doesn’t seem to have slowed down New York Mets closer Edwin Diaz.

Diaz, who missed all of last season after tearing the patellar tendon in his right knee during the World Baseball Classic, struck out the side on Monday night against Miami.

The hard-throwing right-hander needed just 14 pitches to dispatch Jesus Sanchez, Avisail Garcia and Jon Berti in the top of the fifth. Diaz hit 98 mph on the radar gun and seven of his strikes were swung on and missed.

“It was crazy because I felt the people screaming and everything,” Diaz said. “I was just trying to control my emotions at that moment. … Even if it’s a spring training game, I treat this game like (the) regular season.”

JUDGE RESTS

New York Yankees center fielder Aaron Judge is not expected to play again until Wednesday due to spring training fatigue.

Judge has not taken on-field batting practice the last couple days and was replaced after three innings and two at-bats, in which he struck out both times, in Sunday’s game against Atlanta.

King Yella was recently released from prison after serving three years for attempted burglary.

Over three years after he claimed to have slept with Cardi B, King Yella has finally turned to his Instagram page to issue a public apology to the “Bodak Yellow” rapper. He posted a throwback photo of the two hanging out in what appears to be a hotel room with a heartfelt caption.

“I just wanna say sorry #cardib it’s all love I’m on some grown ish. 2018 I was tweekin @offsetyrn we gotta chop it up folks. Growth & development.”

Back in 2018, the “Chicago Changes” singer sparked a major feud with Cardi and her fiancé after he started rumours about sleeping with her in his track “Cardi B Truth,” a freestyle that goes over the beat of Offset’s song “Ric Flair Drip.”

“We had yo bitch first @offsetyrn @iamcardib interview out now @zacktv,” Yella captioned an Instagram post at the time.

Cardi was quick to clear her name and adamantly denied ever having had sexual relations with the 31-year-old, but Yella didn’t hesitate to stir the pot by posting a video of Offset confronting him about the rumours over the phone.

In the same year, Yella was was arrested for attempted burglary and wound up serving three years behind bars. He was released earlier this year, and it seems that spending time in prison has allowed him to reflect on his former antics and clean up his act a little bit.

Neither Cardi nor Offset have responded to Yella’s apology post yet, but we’ll know that all is well for sure if we ever see a photo of them in the studio together.

Liam Payne has put a difficult few months behind him with a luxury trip, and his One Direction bandmate has some thoughts about it.

The former One Direction star, 30, was recently hit with major health problems which led him to be hospitalised twice and forced to postpone his planned tour.

And shortly after his second hospitalisation for sudden ‘agonising pain’ while on a trip with his girlfriend, the Strip That Down singer was taken off the road after being caught speeding.

Liam was stripped of his licence and fined £293 after the incident in February, ‘due to repeat offending’, as well as being given a six-month driving ban following a hearing in October.

The star has now put on a smile as he enjoys a trip to Saudi Arabia where he rubbed shoulders with A-listers, including legendary boxer Mike Tyson.

In a series of snaps from the trip, uploaded to Instagram, Liam posed with the former heavyweight champion as they casually chilled on a sofa.

The keen boxing fan also met British boxer Chris Eubank Jr, Lennox Lewis and influencer Abdu Rozik, while also spending time on a gold course, exploring the city and its nightlife, and relaxing in luxury.

He shared the snaps with the message: ‘Thanks for having me Saudi. It’s beautiful to see how the landscape is changing.’

His army of fans quickly took to the comments, many sharing their joy at how happy and healthy Liam looks – including his former 1D bandmate Louis Tomlinson, who urged Liam to ‘give me a ring lad.’

And because One Direction fans are tragically starved for content from the formerly world-famous boyband, everyone naturally freaked out, with Louis’ comment garnering over 50,000 likes.

Another comment from an Instagram user – ‘LOUIS COMMENTED IM NOT OK IM NOT OK’ – got over 1400 likes, with hundreds more likes going to comments all following a pattern similar to ‘OMG OMG OMG’ and ‘AAAHHH WHAT THE HELL’.

It’s not all smooth sailing quite yet however, as Liam received a six-month driving ban earlier this month after an incident in February this year which saw him clocked going 43mph in a maximum 30 zone in West London in his £35,000 Ford Ranger.

Justin Bieber brought in his 29th birthday with a bang.

The Changes singer, who turned 29 on March 1, shared photos from his party over the weekend. One of the pics from the festivities was an engraved lighter that reads “I’m so thankful that I didn’t end up with what I thought I wanted.”

Alfredo Flores, a music video director and friend of Bieber, also posted the lighter on Twitter:

Various observers assumed the object containing the inscription was a dig at Justin’s ex-girlfriend Selena Gomez amid her feud with his wife Hailey.

“Admitting that your wife was your second choice on your birthday is crazy lmao selena truly lives in his mind rent free,” one user on Twitter wrote. Another added, “@justinbieber hitting an all time low on his 29th birthday. Getting pettier every year.”

Per Page Six, the lighter was gifted to Justin and was not an actual party favor. A source told the outlet that the inscription is not related to Hailey and Gomez’s social media drama. “It’s not what people want it to be around,” the insider said.

Following fans’ speculation about the lighter, Justin did not make any statements about the matter.

Gomez recently encouraged fans to practice kindness in her latest TikTok video, admitting her “heart has been heavy.”

The 30-year old pop star is aiming to turn over a new leaf and has decided to prioritise fatherhood at a turning point in his life after overcoming past struggles with mental and physical health issues and enduring a brief stint in rehab. In the past, the former One Direction star confessed that becoming a father had ruined his relationship with his ex-partner Cheryl.

He admitted that due to his globe-trotting career, it was not uncommon for him to be frequently absent from their son Bear’s life. Now, he is reportedly planning on dedicating more of his time and energy towards raising the six-year old.

A source source told OK!: “Liam is taking on more responsibilities and really regrets those comments he made about kids ruining relationships. He wants to prove to Cheryl that he’s now going in the right direction and has really changed.”
