‘Hostile to Britain!’ Reform UK slams Labour after Nigel Farage’s party frozen out of House of Lords despite poll lead

‘This makes me more determined to smash the political establishment than ever’

Nigel Farage and Zia Yusuf have hit out at the Labour Government after Reform UK were barred from nominating supporters to the House of Lords.

Their protests came as Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer proposed 25 new peers to bolster his party’s control of the Upper Chamber.

Among those nominated were several Labour allies, including Sir Keir’s former communications head, Matthew Doyle, and Chancellor Rachel Reeves’s chief of staff, Katie Martin, leading to accusations of “cronyism”.

Other party leaders were also granted nominations to the Lords, with Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch putting forward two new peers and Liberal Democrat leader Sir Ed Davey appointing five.

However, Reform UK appeared to have been frozen out of the nominations process, leading to fury from Mr Farage.

“In the summer, I wrote to Keir Starmer to ask that Reform have some representation in the House of Lords,” he wrote on X.

“He didn’t give me the courtesy of a response, despite Reform winning the elections in May.”

Mr Farage was referring to the May local elections across England, which saw Reform scoop 677 council seats in a dominant show over the other parties.

Given the scale of ineptitude of governance by this Labour ‘Government’ it is a disaster that there appears nothing within the Constitution, written and unwritten, of the United Kingdom that cannot be utilised to bring about an early General Election. Whilst such an authority, dissolution of Parliament, lies with the Monarch I doubt it will be used as these circumstances appear to have no precedent and I suspect the King will not be minded to intervene. Starmer is responsible for disaster after incompetent disaster, politically, economically and socially and the electorate can do buxxer all. Back seat passengers whilst the vehicle rolls inexplicably and determinedly to the cliff edge.

Nigel Farage has fumed after Reform were frozen out of nominations to the House of Lords

“This makes me more determined to smash the political establishment than ever,” the Reform leader pledged.

Mr Yusuf, Reform’s head of policy, added: “The House of Lords has been permanently debased by these disgusting decisions.

“ZERO peers for the party leading in the polls, MORE for the Lib Dems?

“The House of Lords has become a chamber of out-of-touch failures, hostile to the interests of the British people,.”

Zia Yusuf slammed the Lords as a ‘chamber of out-of-touch failures, hostile to the interests of the British people’

     | GB News

Continuing, Mr Yusuf suggested the decision was an effort to blunt Reform UK’s imperious lead in polling across Britain.

He asked: “Notice how there’s not a SINGLE peerage to Reform despite us leading 150 polls in a row?”

“The establishment is gorging itself on its last vestiges of power. Gorging itself at the people’s expense.

    “A reckoning is coming.”

As it stands, Reform currently has one member in the Lords following the defection of Lord Offord of Garvel from the Conservatives.

However, he will step down from the upper chamber to campaign as a candidate for Reform in the 2026 Holyrood elections.

The most recent YouGov polling has shown Reform’s continued dominance, topping the table on 27 per cent compared to Labour’s 19% and the Conservatives’ 18 per cent.

Political appointments to the Lords are made at the discretion of the PM, where they have no constitutional obligation to appoint members of opposition parties.

Political appointments to the Lords are made at the discretion of the Prime Minister

Convention usually dictates that they will invite opposing leaders to suggest new peers, a gesture which has not been extended to Reform UK or other parties such as the Greens.

In his letter to Sir Keir, Mr Farage warned of the “democratic disparity” that had been created in the Lords without any Reform representation.

Responding to the letter at the time, a Downing Street spokesman said: “The process for appointments to the House of Lords follows established conventions and is guided by advice from the House of Lords Appointments Commission and other relevant bodies.

“While political parties may make representations regarding peerage nominations, decisions are made in line with long-standing procedures.”

Sir Keir’s raft of new peerages came despite his initial pledge to abolish the Lords in favour of an elected chamber.

In recent months, Sir Keir has moved to more gradual reforms like phasing out hereditary peers and introducing mandatory retirement at 80.

Last week, a Tory party source slammed the list as “Union paymasters, Labour apparatchiks and those responsible for this Government’s disasters all being handed rewards tells you everything you need to know about Keir Starmer”.

“While the British public is suffering from the dire impacts of his and Rachel Reeves’s economic mismanagement, it’s more cronyism and more reward for failure from this government. Shameful,” they told the Daily Mail.

The Lib Dems, despite their continued nominations to the upper chamber, have also made pronouncements over replacing the Lords with an elected house.

Eamonn Holmes ‘lonely’ as he deals with major rejection from younger girlfriend

TV presenters Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford are currently going through a divorce after 14 years of marriage and sharing a son together

Eamonn Holmes is said to be “lonely” as he deals with a major rejection from his younger girlfriend. The TV star is currently in a relationship with a woman 22 years younger than himself after splitting from Ruth Langsford.

However, it’s thought that the new couple could be facing some issues as Katie Alexander is reportedly refusing to move in with Eamonn. The marriage counsellor is choosing to stay living in Yorkshire due to co-parenting her two teenagers with her ex-husband.

This means that she won’t be moving to London to spend more time with Eamonn who now lives in a penthouse flat in Kingston after moving out of his house he shared with Ruth. A source has said that there is “no way” that Katie will be moving in any time soon.

Eamonn is reportedly ‘lonely'(Image: Gareth Cattermole/Getty Images)
The MailOnline reported that they were told by a source: “‘There’s no way she will move in with Eamonn in the near future, or for many years. She has her children to consider. Truth be told, they are a little unsettled at her relationship being played out in the media and she doesn’t want to uproot them.

“They have met Eamonn on several occasions and get on great with him, so things will stay as they are for the time being. Eamonn seems so lonely since splitting with Ruth, so it’s not exactly ideal for him.”

Eamonn and Ruth were together for 14 years before they called time on their relationship last spring. The former couple had been together since 1996 and married since 2010.

The pair have been quiet about their split but it was reported that the the divorce has been “very painful” for Ruth. Ruth previously opened up about the split and told Woman and Home Magazine: “A break-up of a relationship is hard enough for anybody to deal with. A divorce is very difficult and it’s very painful, but most people don’t have to do it in the public eye, with everybody having an opinion about you and writing things about you and commenting things about you.

“But that’s the nature of my job. I’ve always had that and if you can’t cope with that, you shouldn’t be doing this job. I’m quite fine being on my own, but not forever. When you’re in a relationship, it’s easy to say, ‘Great, I’ve got a weekend to myself,’ but when you think that might be every weekend, it’s a different story.”

The former This Morning power couple released a blunt statement last May as they announced their split, which said: “Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes have confirmed their marriage is over and they are in the process of divorcing.”

The Mirror have contacted Eamonn’s reps for comment.

  • “THE MAN WHO CAN DO NO WRONG”: Robert Irwin BECOMES THE NEW GOLD STANDARD for social media, CLAIMING his crown as the most beloved person online by simply BEING HIS PURE AND AUTHENTIC SELF

“THE MAN WHO CAN DO NO WRONG”: Robert Irwin BECOMES THE NEW GOLD STANDARD for social media, CLAIMING his crown as the most beloved person online by simply BEING HIS PURE AND AUTHENTIC SELF

Queensland, Australia – In a digital landscape often defined by division and artifice, Robert Irwin has emerged as a global phenomenon, being hailed as the “gold standard” for social media. By eschewing typical influencer trends and simply being his pure and authentic self, the 22-year-old wildlife warrior has officially claimed his crown as the most beloved person online, bridging the gap between nostalgic “Crocodile Hunter” fans and a massive new Gen Z audience.

His meteoric rise peaked in late 2025 following a historic victory on Dancing with the Stars US, where his relentless positivity and genuine charm shattered voting records.

The New Gold Standard: Authentic Engagement

While many celebrities struggle with “cancel culture,” Robert Irwin has achieved what experts call “the man who can do no wrong” status. According to the 2024 and 2025 Australian Talent Indexes, Robert was voted the country’s most popular broadcast personality, specifically topping lists for: Most Authentic, Most Likeable, Most Relatable.

His social media strategy is deceptively simple: sharing behind-the-scenes life at Australia Zoo, stunning wildlife photography, and lighthearted interactions with fans. Unlike the “Bieber lifestyle” of typical stars, Robert’s interactions often focus on conservation, leading brands like G’day Parks and Prince William’s Earthshot Prize to seek him out as the ultimate “clean” ambassador.

The Mirrorball Miracle: Winning Hearts and History

The pinnacle of “Ir-winning” occurred on November 25, 2025, when Robert and his partner Witney Carson won Season 34 of Dancing with the Stars US.

“Robert didn’t just win the trophy; he won the soul of the audience,” a show insider revealed. “He broke social media engagement records, doubling and tripling the numbers of other contestants. He is a ‘beacon of hope’ for a generation looking for kindness over toxicity.”

By winning the Mirrorball trophy exactly 10 years after his sister Bindi Irwin, the duo became the first celebrity siblings in history to both hold the title, cementing the Irwin family as global reality TV royalty.

The “Thirst Trap” Phenomenon: Modern Masculinity

Interestingly, 2024 and 2025 saw Robert lean into a more mature public persona. A photoshoot for Stellar magazine featuring Robert in a simple white tank top and jeans went viral, with fans jokingly declaring they “just discovered they are a cougar.”

Despite the “thirst trap” labels, Robert has maintained his wholesome image by reacting to the comments with his signature polite, slightly bashful Aussie charm. This blend of “confidence without aggression” and “strength through vulnerability” has led cultural critics to label him the blueprint for modern masculinity—a man who loves his mom, saves crocodiles, and can hold his own on a ballroom floor.

From the outback to the ballroom, Robert Irwin’s “pure and authentic” path has proven that being a “genuinely nice guy” is the most powerful currency in the world.

Once The Life Of The Show Beside His Brothers, He Now Faces His Hardest Days — As They Tearfully Admit, “WE’RE DOING EVERYTHING WE CAN… BUT HIS TIME MAY BE RUNNING OUT.”

The Gogglebox community has been shaken to its core after fan-favourite Tremaine Plummer revealed a heartbreaking update on his health — five years after celebrating being cancer-free

    .

The 38-year-old TV personality, who appears on the Channel 4 hit alongside his brothers Twaine and Tristan, shared an emotional message on social media that left fans in tears. Once known for his infectious laugh and witty one-liners, Tremaine’s latest words have painted a far more fragile and painful picture.

“I thought I had beaten it for good,” he wrote. “But life had other plans. I’m back where I never wanted to be — the hospital bed. And this time… it’s harder.”

“His Time May Be Running Out”

According to sources close to the family, Tremaine’s condition has recently taken a serious turn. His brothers, who have been by his side since the beginning of his journey, reportedly broke down while speaking privately to friends — confessing that “his time may be running out.”

Twaine and Tristan, both former professional footballers, have paused their work commitments to stay near Tremaine as he undergoes further treatment.

“We’re doing everything we can,” a family friend shared. “The three of them have always been inseparable. This has been the hardest chapter of their lives.”

     The Battle Behind the Smile

Tremaine was first diagnosed with bowel cancer several years ago, a moment he once described as “the day my world stopped.”
He underwent surgery and months of treatment before being declared cancer-free in 2020 — a milestone that fans across the UK celebrated with him.

At the time, Tremaine called the experience “one of the worst things that could have happened to me — but also one of the best,” explaining how it taught him gratitude and resilience.

But recent hospital photos shared by the Gogglebox star have worried fans. In one image, Tremaine appeared weak yet calm, lying in a hospital bed as he thanked supporters for their love and prayers.

“I’m tired,” he admitted in a caption. “But I’m grateful for every single day. Please, don’t take your health for granted.”

     Fans and Co-Stars Send Prayers

The emotional update has sparked an outpouring of love from Gogglebox viewers and fellow cast members.
    Messages flooded social media:

“Crying reading this. Tremaine has brought so much joy to our screens — sending him all the strength in the world.”

“This man’s spirit has inspired me for years. Please get well soon.”

Producers at Channel 4 also expressed their support, describing Tremaine as “a warm, genuine, and much-loved part of the Gogglebox family.”

     A Brother’s Promise

As Tremaine continues his fight, his brothers have vowed to keep his legacy of laughter alive.
Tristan wrote in a touching post:

“No matter what happens, we’ll always make you proud, bro. You’ve carried us with your courage — now it’s our turn to carry you.”

     The Love of a Nation

From Bristol to London, fans have shared old clips and heartfelt tributes, calling Tremaine “the heart of the Plummer brothers.”

Whether he’s cracking jokes from his living room or offering hope from a hospital bed, his story continues to inspire thousands — a reminder of strength, brotherhood, and the power of love even in life’s darkest hours.

Heartbreaking Loss: Rachael Carpani, beloved McLeod’s Daughters actress, has unexpectedly but peacefully passed away, leaving fans devastated as details of her final moments emerge, sparking an outpouring of grief, tears, and tributes across the world.

A beloved Australian actress known for her roles in McLeod’s Daughters and Home and Away has “unexpectedly but peacefully” died.

Rachael Carpani, known for playing Jodi Fountain in McLeod’s Daughters from 2001 to 2009, died on Sunday, December 7, following a long battle with chronic illness.

The 45-year-old’s sister, Georgia, confirmed the devastating news on Monday afternoon by sharing a statement on social media.

“It is with great sadness that Tony and Gael Carpani announce that their beautiful daughter, beloved Australian actress Rachael Carpani, unexpectedly but peacefully passed away after a long battle with chronic illness, in the early hours of Sunday, 7th December,” the post read.

“The family requests privacy at this very difficult time and will be making no further statements.”

In the post, the family also confirmed they will be holding a private funeral for the star with close family and friends later this week.

Her McLeod’s Daughters co-star, Bridie Carter, took to Instagram to share a heartfelt tribute in the wake of the tragic news.

“This is the most difficult post,” Carter wrote, re-sharing Georgia’s post about Carpani’s death.

“In love and respect, for our beautiful Rach, in prayer and with the deepest sorrow and profound sympathy for the Carpani family. Rest In Peace our beautiful girl….the “baby” of our [McLeod’s Daughters] family. We love you, we cherish you.

“This is the wrong order of things. We are better people for having the privilege of sharing time with you. We know Rach will not only be missed immeasurably by her family, by us, but she is loved and will be missed by you all, around the world. We love you Carpani.

“We miss you Rach. May your blessed spirit, so vivid, so full of life, laughter, joy, generosity, unique talent, energy, fervour, intelligence, resilience, courage and great humour, and a gentle humility, may you rest in peace.”

In March last year, Carpani shared images from a time she got back in front of a  camera for a photoshoot, saying: “No hospital gown, no awesome surgery socks…have to admit I miss the comfort.”

Carpani went on to star in several movies and shows including 800 Words, Law Dogs, Against The Wall and Home and Away in 2024 as Claudia Salini.

Carpani’s death comes two years after her co-star Peter Hardy drowned while snorkelling at South Beach in Fremantle in March, 2023.

The 66-year-old was believed to have been visiting Perth, where he grew up, from London to see his elderly mother.

The annual Coming Out show for I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here is always keenly anticipated by devoted viewers, offering an exclusive glimpse into what unfolds when a celebrity departs the jungle camp.

This series, enthusiasts of the ITV programme will be intrigued to witness the aftermath of the notorious sweet gate controversy. The furore erupted when rapper Aitch, content creator Angry Ginge and television personality Kelly Brook chose to pilfer confectionery from their fellow campmates.

The threesome secured 20 milk bottles during a challenge on the programme, but opted to devour half before returning to the group whilst hiding their deception. When Kelly faced elimination, she revealed the bombshell that additional sweets existed, leaving her accomplices to handle the consequences.

Aitch and Ginge chose to persist with their falsehood, claiming there were merely 13, rather than 20. Yet hosts Ant and Dec ensured they swiftly corrected this figure to every subsequent celebrity departing the jungle.

One appalled campmate was Vogue Williams, who labelled Kelly a “snake” after learning the truth from the Geordie pair. Meanwhile, Ruby Wax was equally shocked, vowing to “punish” Aitch and Angry Ginge specifically for their dishonesty following the programme,

It proved to be a landslide win, with runner-up Tom Read Wilson securing 35 per cent.

  • Heartbreak for Pete Wicks: “I Lost Peggy” — the TV star mourns the devastating loss of his beloved French bulldog, who has sadly passed away just weeks after he shared hopes of months of treatment.

Heartbreak for Pete Wicks: “I Lost Peggy” — the TV star mourns the devastating loss of his beloved French bulldog, who has sadly passed away just weeks after he shared hopes of months of treatment.

Pete Wicks has opened up about a deeply personal loss, revealing that his much-loved French bulldog Peggy has died, just weeks after he told fans she was facing months of treatment.

The Strictly Come Dancing star, 37, shared the heartbreaking news during a recent episode of his podcast Staying Relevant, explaining that Peggy actually passed away around a month ago. Pete said he hadn’t spoken publicly about it before, but decided to address it after listeners began wondering why only his other dog, Eric, was with him in the studio.

On the podcast, Pete told listeners that on a sad note, and knowing people would ask, the reason Peggy wasn’t there was because he had lost her recently. He explained that Eric had come into the office because he’d been lonely, adding quietly that Peggy died about a month ago.

Pete had first alarmed fans back in July when he revealed he had “nearly lost” Peggy, sharing that she was about to begin months of treatment. At the time, he posted a photo of the pair cuddling and admitted it had been a tough week, saying Peggy had been through the wars but never gave up. He told followers he was simply happy to have her back home and remained hopeful despite the long road ahead.

Earlier this month, while promoting his U series For Dogs’ Sake, Pete admitted 2025 had been a heavy year emotionally. He revealed he was planning to spend Christmas Day alone with Eric, joking that he’d likely sit at home with a Pot Noodle. Pete said he usually spends Christmas on his own with his dogs, and this year felt no different.

After spending weeks filming at Dogs Trust’s rehoming centre in Basildon, Pete also spoke about the possibility of adopting another dog one day, but stressed he wouldn’t rush the decision. He explained that while he wants every dog, he has to practise what he preaches, given his unusual lifestyle. He added that Eric, now 12, also gets a say, saying it’s important to find the right companion for him and to get it right, as he always has.

Peggy had been part of Pete’s life since 2018, when he rescued her through French Bulldog Saviours. He has often spoken about his bond with dogs, previously admitting he prefers them to people and that he couldn’t stop crying while filming his emotional animal-focused series.

Pete’s love for dogs began in childhood, when he and his mum adopted their first pet, Arnie, when he was just 10 years old. In 2016, he went on to rescue Eric from Dogs Trust Basildon — the loyal companion who is now helping him through the loss of Peggy.

British vigilantes slash small migrant boats on French coastline

Britons have been filming themselves travelling to beaches in France and ‘destroying’ small boats – gaining thousands of views in the process

    London Travel Guide

British vigilantes who spearheaded efforts to fly England flags across the country have launched a new anti-migrant protest – attempting to block illegal Channel crossings.

Using the term “Operation Stop The Boats”, members of the group have been filming themselves slashing small boats before they are used by migrants to cross the English Channel from France.

Posts on social media show members calling for other British men to join them in France, including making a direct appeal to football hooligans, saying “we need to make a stand”.

In one video message shared this week by a member of the Raise the Colours group – the grassroots movement that has seen flags fixed to lampposts, motorway bridges and roundabouts across England – two men are seen evoking military language and the spirit of the British fight against the Nazis in the Second World War.

Claiming to be recording from the northern French coast, one said: “Just like in the 1940s, we must take a stand, and it starts with the men of England and Britain.”

Making an appeal to “firms” – a phrase that refers to football hooligan groups – the other man added: “Our country is doing nothing. Weak government, weaker borders.

“They are doing nothing, so we need to make a stand, boys. Get the lads together, get your firms together, get the lads in the pub, get the lads down the bars, if you’re talking about it and you agree with what we are doing, give us a hand.”

The Government is under pressure to tackle the issue of migration amid a record number of asylum applications, surging small boat crossings and protests at hotels housing asylum seekers.

On Monday, Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood set out a package of reforms to asylum policies aimed at tackling illegal migration, telling MPs the current situation is “out of control and unfair”.

The latest videos shared by those linked to the Raise the Colours group have separately been referred to as “Operation Overlord”.

Earlier clips showed two men saying they were taking matters of illegal migration into their own hands and filming themselves stamping on and smashing a small boat’s engine.

In the clips, they refer to themselves as “patriots” and make a number of claims without evidence, such as that they are stopping “rapists and murderers” from “coming to a town near you”.
One video shared by the group (Photo: raisethecolours.org.uk/nstagram)
The flag-raising group, who have a combined 100,000 followers on X and Instagram, also posted a plea on X for donations last week, writing that they are: “STOPPING The Boats, whether the migrants or government like it or not!”

Two videos from the group have recently been shared to the 1.7 million X followers of Tommy Robinson. The far-right figure and former leader of the English Defence League, whose real name is Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, has previously been accused of mobilising football hooligan firms in an attempt to launch anti-Muslim rallies across the country.

Separately, French media reports that the Dunkirk Public Prosecutor’s office has opened a preliminary investigation into “aggravated violence” against migrants by suspected British far-right figures.

One of the details being examined by the French prosecutor is the claim that in September, four men waving British and UK flags verbally and physically attacked migrants on the French coast. It is alleged that they told the migrants they were not welcome in England and proceeded to steal some of their belongings.

Human remains have been discovered after private schoolboy Astin Gerstl was swept out to sea at an unpatrolled beach during Schoolies week.

The search for Astin Gerstl, 18, was suspended on Tuesday, two days after he became caught in a rip at Little Bay Beach on the NSW Mid North Coast on Sunday.

On Friday, NSW Police confirmed that human remains had been located by a member of the public at the same beach at around 7.30am.

‘The remains have been taken for forensic examination,’ the statement said.

Astin had just finished his HSC at The King’s School in Parramatta in Sydney‘s west and was on a Schoolies trip with friends when tragedy struck.

It’s understood that he was a boarder at the school and is the grandson of former Supreme Court Justice Roddy Meagher, who died in 2011.

It’s the third tragedy on the NSW Mid North Coast in the last week.
