Meghan & Harry declined invite to Archie’s godfather’s wedding ‘to avoid overshadowing bride & making event too awkward’

PRINCE Harry and Meghan Markle reportedly declined an invite to Archie’s godfather’s wedding to “avoid overshadowing the day”.

Hugh Grosvenor, the Duke of Westminster, will marry Olivia Henson, 31, at Chester Cathedral on June 7.

But the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will not attend the wedding, the Sunday Times reported.

The 33-year-old aristocrat and businessman is godfather to Harry’s five-year-old son Prince Archie.

Their absence from the wedding is allegedly to “avoid royal tensions overshadowing the day”.

Reports emerged in December suggesting Harry and his wife Meghan were not on the guest list for the wedding.

Grosvenor was said to be concerned that the ongoing rift between Prince William and Harry could overshadow the day.

“It’s incredibly sad it has come to this,” a friend of the princes previously told the Sunday Times.

“Hugh is one of the very few close friends of William and Harry’s who has maintained strong bonds and a line of communication with both.

“He wishes they could put their heads together and patch things up, but realises it’s unlikely to happen before the wedding.

“He wanted to avoid anything overshadowing the day, especially for Olivia, and doesn’t want any awkwardness.”

However sources close to the Sussexes claim the pair did receive a “save the date” card but thought attending would be “too awkward”.

The Sun has contacted representatives of the Sussexes for comment.

It comes after it was reported the Prince of Wales is to be an usher at the wedding of his close friend.

William will be among the groom’s party at the 400-person ceremony.

The Princess of Wales, who is undergoing treatment for cancer, is not expected to attend.

The Duke of Westminster is a godson of the King and godfather to William’s son, Prince George.

A timeline of Prince Harry and William’s ‘feud’: Brothers ‘at war’

IN 2018, the Sun told how “simmering tension

The first hints of friction reportedly came after William was introduced to Meghan when she was staying at Kensington Palace.

Once she’d returned home to Canada, William and Harry sat down for a brother-to-brother chat.

He knew Harry was already head-over-heels for her but it has been claimed he advised him to take it slowly.

The younger prince reportedly didn’t take too kindly to the advice, with one royal source saying he “went mental”.

Then in June 2019 Harry and Meghan officially split off from the charity they shared with William and Kate.

The Royal Foundation will be divided between the Sussexes and Cambridges as the couples focus on their own separate charitable endeavours.

Prince William and Prince Harry first established the Royal Foundation in 2009 before Kate joined two years later shortly after their engagement was announced.

The trio would often appear together at events and the Foundation had huge successes with projects like the Invictus Games for injured veterans and the mental health Heads Together campaign.

The Royal Foundation said the decision was made following the conclusion of a review into its structure – but added both couples will continue to work together in the future.

Harry and Meg were living in close proximity to Kate and Wills within the Kensington Palace estate, but they switched to Frogmore Cottage in Windsor before baby Archie was born.

The move further increased rumours of a fallout.

Harry, 39, also hinted in his ITV documentary “Harry and Meghan, An African Journey” that he and his brother had grown apart.

It came after Prince Philip called Meghan the “D.O.W” after the Duchess of Windsor — the American divorcee who led Edward VIII to abdicate.

And he warned the late Queen to be “cautious” of Harry’s then bride-to-be, a royal author claims.

Ingrid Seward revealed in new book My Mother And I that Prince Philip felt it was “uncanny…how much Meghan reminded him of the Duchess of Windsor”.

In 2021, Harry and Meghan give their bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey where Harry accused his dad of cutting him off financially.

Harry then jetted back to UK to join William in unveiling a statue to their mother Princess Diana in the grounds of Kensington Palace. But sources claimed William didn’t want to attend the memorial amid their ongoing rift.

In 2022, just before their grandmother the Queen died, sources claimed Kate acts as a “peacemaker” between the brothers.

Last year Harry claimed his brother “knocked him to the floor” during an argument about Meghan.

In his book Spare, Harry said William branded Meghan “rude” and “difficult” during a row.

Harry alleged William “grabbed me by the collar, ripping my necklace, and … knocked me to the floor”.

He said he was left with a visible injury to his back following the argument in 2019 at Nottingham Cottage on the grounds of Kensington Palace, where he was living at the time.

In January this year, Harry flew in to be with Charles after the monarch’s shock cancer diagnosis.

Harry flew back to the US the following day – without seeing Wills.

The couple announced their engagement at Eaton Hall in Cheshire in April last year after being together for two years.

The Duke of Westminster topped The Sunday Times 40 Under 40 Rich List this week, boasting a fortune of £10.1 billion.

He became an instant billionaire when he inherited his title and control of the historic Grosvenor Estate aged 25 following the death of his father from a heart attack in 2016.

His property company, Grosvenor Group, owns about 300 acres of land in Mayfair and Belgravia, as well as major city centre developments such as Liverpool’s ONE shopping centre, and the duke is part of the royal inner circle.

Meghan Markle to receive ‘pricey gift’ from Prince Harry for wedding anniversary – after her homemade ‘paper’ present

MEGHAN Markle could receive a very special gift from Prince Harry for their six-year wedding anniversary today.

Speaking to Fabulous, Editor-in-chief of Majesty Magazine Ingrid Seward said the Duke of Sussex may treat Meghan to a jewellery piece for the occasion.

She said: “I feel certain that he will buy her a little piece of jewellery.”

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex tied the knot in a lavish royal wedding on May 19, 2018 – with couples traditionally celebrating their sixth anniversary as the “iron anniversary.”

Many couples will opt for an iron-themed gift to symbolise the durability of their relationship.

Ingrid continued: “Six years and it’s iron.

“But what could he get her that was iron, an iron pot maybe?

“I think he’s probably more likely to get her a little ring, she loves rings.

“And as he did once before, he might get her some beautiful flowers.”

For their first wedding anniversary, the Duke of Sussex gifted his wife an eternity ring to mark the occasion, but Meghan gave a handmade present instead.

In a nod to the one-year anniversary theme of “paper”, Meghan hand wrote out their wedding speech and had it framed for Harry, according to People.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex could spend their celebrations in a lowkey fashion at their sprawling £12million home, according to Ingrid.

She continued: “I think that she will still want to make a big deal of it because there’s so much focus on their state of their marriage.

“I don’t think they’ll do anything in public but I would have thought in private they might make just a sort of romantic gesture to each other.

“Harry’s very, very much in love with Meghan.

“Whatever else we say about him, he loves her very much and I think he’d want to do anything to make her happy.”

Former Royal butler Grant Harrold – who worked for King Charles for seven years – also predicted the Sussexes will celebrate in private.

As reported by the Mirror, he explained: “Celebrations will probably be behind closed doors, maybe a dinner party with some friends or maybe just the two of them.

“Maybe they’ll recreate that roast chicken dinner they had on the night they got engaged at their cottage in Windsor.”

He shared how Harry was “always very romantic” and on dates would be a “true gentleman.”

MEGHAN MARKLE’S STUNNING GIVENCHY WEDDING DRESS

Meghan Markle stunned onlookers as she arrived at St George’s Chapel in Windsor, ahead of her nuptials to Prince Harry, in a stunning bespoke gown by Givenchy, created by British designer Clare Waight Keller.

The former Suits actress chose to work with Clare Waight Keller “for her timeless and elegant aesthetic, impeccable tailoring, and relaxed demeanour”.

Meghan wanted to “highlight the success of a leading British talent who has now served as the creative head of three globally influential fashion houses – Pringle of Scotland, Chloé, and now Givenchy”.

Meghan and Clare worked closely together on the design, which featured a graphic open bateau neckline that gracefully frames the shoulders and emphasises Meghan’s slender waist.

Grant also added that Meghan and Harry’s wedding anniversary could be an opportunity for an “olive branch” between them and Harry’s family.

Grant explained: “Typically, the Royal family do acknowledge wedding anniversaries, we usually see social media posts so it’ll be interesting to see if that happens this year. If they don’t, once again it goes to show the ongoing division. If it does happen, then I see that as an olive branch.”

Meghan and Harry tied the knot on May 19, 2018 in front of 600 guests at St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle.

It’s estimated that the occasion cost £32m – covering everything from the cost of security and catering to Meghan’s stunning dress.

Watching on was a star-studded crowd of hundreds including the Clooneys, the Beckhams and Elton John – who performed at the lunchtime’s reception.

A gospel choir sang American soul singer Ben E. Kings 1960s hit Stand By Me to the couple, who had earlier been given their new titles as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

And they were later able to meet the rapturous crowds of more than 100,000 people as they were taken through Windsor in a carriage.

The Royal Wedding was not the first time Meghan has said, “I do”.

Meghan was previously married to film producer Trevor Engelson who is most famous for the 9/11 romance movie Remember Me, starring Robert Pattinson.

Saudi chief makes 'script' request to Mike Tyson ahead of Jake Paul fight amid 'fix' allegations

Turki Alalshikh has made a request to Mike Tyson ahead of his fight against Jake Paul.

Paul and Tyson met at a New York launch press conference on Monday to promote their July 20 fight, which takes place at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

During the fan Q&A section, a kid asked an outrageous question to Tyson, who had a priceless reaction.

Despite the enormity of the bout, Paul vs. Tyson has been met with widespread condemnation by fans and critics alike.

One of them being Saudi Arabia chief Alalshikh, who has transformed the world of boxing following his ability to make any fight with a snap of the finger.

He helped make the undisputed world heavyweight clash between Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk, which goes down on Saturday.

And ahead of Paul and Tyson sharing the ring, Alalshikh has told the boxing legend to ‘forget to script’.

On X, he posted an image of himself alongside the former world heavyweight champion, accompanied with the caption: “Please brother Mike, forget the script and beat this guy!”

Alalshikh is clearly referencing the claims and suggestions that Paul’s fights have been scripted in his favour.

‘The Problem Child’ has nine pro wins to his name, but some of his victories have been subjected to fierce criticism.

He has been accused of ‘fixing’ his fights against Ben Askren, Tyron Woodley and Nate Diaz.

Alalshikh seems to be aware of the claims and hopes Tyson does the business this summer.

The 42-year-old, who’s the chairman of Saudi Arabia’s General Entertainment Authority, has made been hugely influential in making some of the biggest fights in recent years.

But he isn’t interested in ‘YouTuber fights’ as he wants ‘real fighters’.

He said: “Please, we don’t want any YouTuber fights again. I don’t talk about names. I want fighters, real fighters. This is what I support. For me, inside my heart, I want the fighters.”

Boxing fans have hit out at John Fury’s moment with Mike Tyson.

John Fury called out by boxing fans for 'embarrassing' thing he did to Mike Tyson after headbutt incident

John Fury has been ruthlessly slammed by boxing fans for his ’embarrassing’ exchange with Mike Tyson.

‘Big’ John grabbed plenty of headlines on Monday as Oleksandr Usyk’s team clashed with his son’s entourage ahead of their undisputed showdown on Saturday.

He headbutted a member of Usyk’s camp and ended up doing damage to himself as he bled from his head, with Saudi Arabia authorities making a decision following his moment of madness.

The ‘Gypsy King’ had a priceless reaction after witnessing blood gushing from his father’s head.

After the incident, a video of John’s callout of boxing legend Tyson emerged online, followed by a clip of his meeting with the former world heavyweight champion.

One video shows the 59-year-old calling for a showdown against the American icon while a second clip shows his interaction with him.

He’s been called out by fight fans on social media for ‘showing different energy’ to the 57-year-old after calling for a fight.

Seen as he’s the man on everyone’s lips Throwback to when John Fury called out Mike Tyson then met him in person and showed, let’s say, a different energy 😂

One X user slammed: “He’s all show it’s embarrassing.”

A second tweeted: “Big John is afraid of Mike Tyson and some.”

A third added: “Tyson couldn’t wait to get away from him.”

A fourth said: “Good old fashioned gobsh*te bully.”

    A fifth wrote: “John’s a big dope.”

Another commented: “Big bully who has come off worse from nutting a kid. Embarrassing!”

Tyson will return to action on July 20 when he faces Jake Paul.

While he’s teased another fight after his pro bout with ‘The Problem Child’, a showdown against John seems unlikely.

Speaking after his headbutt, John apologised for his behaviour.

“Sincere apologies to everybody involved,” he said. “It’s just the way we are. Emotions and tensions are running high. He was a very disrespectful fella. If you come close in a fighting man’s space, you’re gonna cop for something.

“What matters to me is respect for my son and he wasn’t showing any of it. He mentioned my son and that was it, so he had to have it. It doesn’t bother me [bleeding], it’s what we live for, we’re fighting people. That’s a regular occurrence to me.”

The time Mike Tyson hit an opponent so hard that he quit between rounds and walked off

Tyson was involved in one of his most surreal fights back in 2000.

Mike Tyson had one of the most bizarre fights of his career against Polish heavyweight Andrew Golota in 2000.

Before the bout, ‘Iron Mike’ had won all three of his comeback fights after returning from a 15-month ban for biting Evander Holyfield’s ear.

He defeated Francois Botha, Julius Francis and Lou Savarese, although his fight against Orlin Norris was ruled a no contest after the Texas-born fighter was left unable to continue after an injury.

In October 2000, Tyson would travel to The Palace, Michigan to take on Golota, who had a professional record of 36-4 going into the fight.

‘Iron Mike’ dominated the opening exchanges, and knocked Golota down with his trademark right hook during the first round.

The Polish fighter got back to his feet and returned to his corner, but could be heard shouting: “Stop the fight!”

The fight, however, continued through a second round, which Golota managed to complete. However, the third round never began – as the former Olympic bronze medalist refused to continue.

There were ugly scenes as Golota left the arena, with fans angrily pelting various items towards him.

His trainer, Al Certo, later apologised for calling his fighter a ‘quitter’ – he even tried to push in Golota’s mouthpiece in an attempt to convince him to continue.

He said in a statement: “I made several comments criticising my fighter, Andrew Golota, for his decision to not answer the bell for round three.

“At the time of the stoppage, I was unaware of how injured my fighter was.”

Golota walked backstage after calling off the fight (

It had emerged that Golota had suffered a number of serious injuries during the fight – namely a concussion, a fractured left cheekbone and a herniated disc.

The Pole did return to professional boxing, but took an extended break from the sport after the Tyson fight and didn’t step back into the ring until August 2003 – nearly three years later.

Meanwhile, Tyson tested positive for marijuana and, as a result, his victory over Golota was overturned to a no-contest.

The eagerly-awaited showdown between Paul and Tyson is set for July 20 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

Both fighters took part in a press conference to kick-off the promotion for their blockbuster clash as they were involved in a telling face-off.

Tyson, who’s making his first ring appearance since his exhibition bout against fellow boxing great Roy Jones Jr in November 2020, has documented his training on social media, showing off his legendary power and hand speed.

And, for the first time, Paul has shown off his heavyweight frame, having campaigned in the cruiserweight division.

He claimed he’d enter the bout around 240lbs and judging by a topless picture of the 27-year-old, he could very well hit that mark come fight night.

Another argued: “He’s not a natural heavyweight, whatever weight he fought at last is where he’ll do best. Still think he’ll beat Tyson.”

Paul, who beat Ryan Bourland in his last outing, plans to bulk up to 240lbs before cutting down.

“And I’m only growing. I think I’ll get up to 240 and probably cut down so I’m like way faster,” he revealed.

“But if I’m training for this camp – and camp hasn’t started – but if I’m training in this camp at 240 and then I cut down to 220 it’s basically like I had a 20lbs weight vest on for the whole entire camp.

What do yall think about the size of those gloves?! Also Mike Tyson is about to be 58 years old in June. 🤯🤯🤯 #BOXINGnBBQ #Boxing #PaulTyson

One X user wrote: “I thought the gloves were supposed to be 14oz? Those look like 18oz+.”

A second tweeted: “The gloves are comically oversized.”

A third joked: “Socker bopper ass gloves.”

A fourth said: “Who’s he supposed to hurt wearing 50oz gloves?”

Another laughed: “Why they got Mike Tyson posted up in the Mickey Mouse gloves?”

Tyson and Paul will wear 16 oz gloves for their clash and will be contested over eight two-minute rounds.

The former world heavyweight champion, who hasn’t competed since his 2020 exhibition against Roy Jones Jr, called it a ‘no-brainer’ to accept a fight against the YouTuber-turned-boxer.

“It was a no-brainer,” he said in the presser. “He was a new up and coming guy on the scene, and I like shaking the sports world to its core and I’m doing it now. It’s just something I want to do.”

Mike Tyson may have provided a hint about his strategy for his upcoming fight with Jake Paul during their recent press conference in New York.

Tyson, 57, will return to the ring to face Paul, 27, on July 20 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas in what will be the main event of a card that will air on Netflix.

While it was initially expected to be an exhibition, an announcement last month confirmed the fight would be judged under professional rules.

Paul has massively bulked up to face Tyson at heavyweight, with the former undisputed champion also looks in great condition for his age.

The pair held a press conference in New York on Monday to promote the fight, with a second media day to come in Arlington on Thursday evening.

Sports YouTuber Wade Plemons studied footage of Tyson and Paul interacting with each other during the first press conference and believes Iron Mike ‘exposed’ his opponent’s ‘biggest weakness’ during their face-off at the end of the event.

Plemons believes Tyson intentionally aimed several playful digs at Paul’s body, suggesting it could be area he will target in the fight.

Sharing his theory on YouTube, Plemons said: “Here is the scene – five punch combo to the body. We’re all laughing and it’s all fun but look at this first little reaction from Jake.

“As he gets touched to the body, boom! Second one landed, third one landed. Mike is just testing it – he’s laughing and they’re having a little shove off there but he was testing those ribs.

“I do think Jake is going to win this fight and do it in devastating fashion but Mike can do one thing to Jake that nobody has really been able to do, and that is get to his body.

“Those playful punches are not an accident from Mike, in my opinion. Maybe he’s being a little jovial and he’s not thinking too deep into it but I am giving one of the greatest boxing minds more credit than that.

“I think that was a test. Because Mike is looking directly into Jake’s reaction – is he soft or a little bit tense?

“Call me an over-thinker, but I think Mike wanted a reaction.”
