Key reason Prince William was ‘envious’ of Harry when they were kids, claims Princess Diana’s former royal bodyguard

PRINCE William was “envious” of Prince Harry growing up due to him being “so popular”, according to a royal expert.

Former royal bodyguard Ken Wharfe spoke on The Sun’s Royal Exclusive show about working with the now-feuding royal brothers when they were children.

The former Met cop looked after the young royal family from 1986 until 1993 before Princess Diana’s tragic death four years later.

Ken shared that despite the brothers’ recent fallouts over Megxit, Harry’s bombshell Spare claims and his tell-all Oprah Winfrey chat, the boys were close as kids.

He claimed: “It was a very happy union. It was a very happy family.

“What I will say is Diana and her husband [the then-Prince Charles] at that time were going through a very difficult period of their life.

“But both of them didn’t want their situation to be known by the children.

“They had a blissful happy life at that point.”

Ken added that Prince William was slightly jealous of Prince Harry’s fun-loving personality.

He continued: “Harry was always the joker, the entertainer.

“But he was the entertainer, you could almost say he was the court jester at that time.

“So in that sense I think William found it slightly different, but they were funny.

“What I liked about Diana, what I liked about the Prince himself, is the way they educated their children.

“Albeit in rather extreme privileged circumstances, they had a very good upbringing in that sense.

“Diana was very careful and insisted they had a normal life.”

I suppose it would be quite common for the sort of sibling rivalry that was, for the eldest William to be slightly nervous or envious of Harry because he was so popular

    Ken WharfeFormer Royal Bodyguard

Ken shared how he thinks the tension between William and Harry’s relationship came as adults.

He revealed: “I think this breakup of sibling relationship, I think this all began around the time of Harry’s marriage to Meghan, much later in life.

“Until that point, certainly up until the point of their mother’s death, they were very much at one.

“They entertained each other, they were very much involved with each other’s friends.

“Right through that early part of life, Harry was always the most popular.”

Your Prince Harry and Meghan Markle questions answered

The royal rift between the brothers was evident last month when Prince Harry jetted to the UK to see King Charles, following his cancer diagnosis.

Harry took a ten-and-a-half hour flight from his Montecito mansion in California to meet with his father in a 30 minute reunion, but didn’t visit William.

Years of attacks by Harry on Oprah, Netflix and in Spare — including branding Wills his “arch-nemesis” — are said to have cut William deep.

It was reported that Prince of Wales “remains focused” on looking after wife Kate, currently recovering from abdominal surgery.

Dad-of-three Wills is helping out as Kate takes extended leave from public duties until after Easter.

The Prince of Wales, 41, who is now carrying the weight of the royals on his shoulders as his father and wife are both ill, has never chosen to hit back.

Meghan and Harry’s popularity is in the gutter… they must build bridges with royals – not burn them, warn experts

WITH King Charles and Princess Kate forced to step back from duties in recent weeks, the Royal Family is looking short of numbers.

Now, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been told a “golden opportunity” to prove their worth is staring them in the face – if they can cut out the jibes.

Kate's doctoring of this Mother's Day photo created a fresh royal crisis

Having recently hired a UK-based PR guru to fix their “popularity problem”, Harry is said to be open to returning to royal duty to ease the burden on his father while he undergoes cancer treatment.

Meghan, meanwhile, is reportedly preparing for a ‘relaunch’ in Britain to boost publicity for their foundation, Archewell, and spearhead a new project.

Industry experts tell The Sun that with Kate also recovering from abdominal surgery, the Sussexes must seize the chance to use their “Hollywood” power to back the embattled Royal Family and carve out a path towards reconciliation.

However, after today’s jibe over Kate’s photo-editing saga, they warn Harry, 39, and Meghan, 42, need to reign in their “keyboard warrior” pals – or risk torpedoing their rebrand altogether.

As one royal expert warned: “Their popularity has sunk almost below ground, and that’s where it will stay.”

The royals looked thin in numbers at the Commonwealth Day service yesterday, as Prince William and Queen Camilla appeared in place of the monarch, who appeared via video message.

Overshadowing the event was a bizarre internet storm surrounding the Princess of Wales, who released a statement admitting she had manipulated a Mother’s Day photo of herself alongside her three children.

Today, the royals were further hit after members of Harry and Meghan’ team insisted the Sussexes would “never make the same mistake” – despite being called out in the past over discrepancies in their Christmas card.

The remark – which followed catty jibes from Meghan’s ‘cheerleader’ Omid Scobie on social media – will do little to repair the their fractious relationship with the Palace and Harry’s family.

However, it may also raise eyebrows with their newly recruited UK-based PR expert, who will join ahead of the launch of a “new commercial venture that the Duchess has been working on for many months”, according to the Telegraph.

PR boss Jack Izzard, CEO of Rhizome Media, tells The Sun: “We’ll probably never know whether Harry and Meghan got a twinge of pleasure from Kate’s blushes.

“But what they should definitely get out of the Kensington Palace cock-up is a PR opportunity.

“A supportive word here, a gentle nod towards the importance of Kate’s privacy there – this is a chance to offer a subtle olive branch to the Cambridges.

“And done right, it can be totally in tune with one of the Sussexes’ favourite themes – a call for the conspiracy theorists and keyboard warriors to lay off.”

    Slimmed down royals

Since ascending to the throne last year, the King has pushed on with his plans to ‘slim down’ the number of working royals.

But with both Charles, 75, and Princess Kate, 42, out of action, commentators have pointed out an occassional shortage on the ground since the Queen’s death.

Brand and culture expert Nick Ede told us: “There was a big Royal Family-shaped hole in the Commonwealth service this week.

“Without the star power of the King and the Princess of Wales, it was obvious that, for the first time in many, many years, the service didn’t make headline news – rather, an allegedly doctored photograph did.”

    Golden opportunity

Nick believes that with the right strategy, the Sussexes would be “the perfect pair to reunite and build the presence of the Royal Family once again”, adding that their “Hollywood glamour” would help take the heat off senior royals when they were out of action.

And despite the Sussex team’s apparent remarks over the photo-scandal, it has also been claimed that Meghan has reached out “several times” privately to Kate.

The former actress has reportedly been using “back channels” to Kensington Palace, where William, 41, and Kate’s staff are based in London, to get on “better terms” with her sister-in-law.

Royal author Tom Quinn said: “This is definitely partly because Meghan is genuinely worried about Kate’s health, but she also sees a chance to lose her permanently angry-at-the-royals image.”

He added to the Mirror: “The feeling in Kensington Palace is that if Meghan’s attempts to extend an olive branch are welcomed, it will just re-open old wounds.”

    Needless attacks

However, for their UK image overhaul to succeed, royal experts insist they must call off “attack dogs” like Omid Scobie – often described as the Sussexes’s “mouthpiece”.

This week, the journalist commented on the social media site X that the Princess of Wales’s decision to photoshop the picture she put out on Mother’s Day made it “impossible” for the royal PR machine to regain the public’s trust.

That sort of behaviour, royal expert Angela Levin argues, means Meghan and Harry can’t be trusted.

She tells The Sun: “Having a photoshopped photograph is absolutely nothing about telling lies.

“The most important thing is that you can trust people, and I don’t believe you can trust Harry and Meghan.

“Meghan only wants to come here because it will increase her popularity in getting work, she hopes.”

    Small steps

Even if Meghan did offer an olive branch to Kate, it does not mean she is likely to give up her new life in California.

She and Harry are focused on their non-profit organisation Archewell and various media projects.

Nick Ede says: “I don’t think this is going to happen in the short term – there is too much at stake for both parties and not enough water under the bridge to forget the allegations made against them.

“At this present time both need to carve out their own paths, which Meghan and Harry are doing by concentrating on Archewell and creating compelling content.”

Many people in Britain still harbour negative feelings towards the Duke and Duchess of Sussex due to the comments they have made about the Royal Family, including suggesting the institution is racist.

Angela does not think there is any sign of that chill thawing.

She concludes: “Nobody wants them anymore than they did before.

“Their popularity has sunk almost below ground, and that’s where it will stay.

“Most people who are contacting the Palace, and I know that, are full of praise for Catherine and feel sorry that she has been so badly treated.”

WHY WERE ‘KILL NOTICES’ ISSUED FOR KATE’S PHOTO?

News agencies ordered a “kill notice” on the picture late Sunday night.

The removal orders were sent after “manipulation” on the image was discovered.

AP’s order said the reason for killing the story was: “At closer inspection it appears that the source has manipulated the image.”

The order then directs those who have used the photo to remove it from all platforms, including social.

Agence France-Press ordered the “mandatory kill” due to an “editorial issue” and directed that the image may no longer be used.

Reuters said the photo “has been withdrawn following a post publication review.”

Getty Images said: “For editorial reasons, please remove the following image(s) from your system and do not use in any manner.”

Getty said its picture desk “identified a problematic image” provided by the palace and removed it from its site “in accordance with our editorial policy.”

PA said: “Like other news agencies, PA Media issued the handout image provided by Kensington Palace of the Princess of Wales and her children in good faith yesterday.

“We became aware of concerns about the image and we carried a report about it last night, and made clear that we were seeking urgent clarification about the image from Kensington Palace.

“In the absence of that clarification, we are killing the image from our picture service.”

Each of the news agencies have their own editorial guidelines which govern how they treat images.

AP says that pictures “must always tell the truth” and that it does not alter or manipulate the content of a photograph in any way.

Its guidelines say: “The content of a photograph must not be altered in PhotoShop or by any other means. No element should be digitally added to or subtracted from any photograph.”

However, AP says minor adjustments are allowed, they include cropping, colour adjustments, and light adjustments.

  • Princess Diana made a sensational claim about her husband, then-Prince Charles, and his strong words after Prince Harry was born.

Princess Diana made a sensational claim about her husband, then-Prince Charles, and his strong words after Prince Harry was born.

Princess Diana made a sensational claim about her husband, then-Prince Charles, and his strong words after Prince Harry was born.

King Charles was reportedly “disappointed” at Prince Harry’s arrival for one particular reason, according to claims made by Princess Diana in her tape recordings.

Charles and Diana’s youngest child Harry was born in London on September 15 1984, two years and three months after his older brother Prince William.

In tapes recorded by Diana, which were turned into an official biography by Andrew Morton in 1992, she said that her husband’s words had caused real upset in the Spencer family.

She said: “At Harry’s christening, Charles went up to Mummy [Queen Elizabeth] and said ‘we’re so disappointed, we wanted a girl’ and Mummy snapped his head off and said ‘you should realise you are lucky to have a child that’s normal’.”

Diana added that this exchange impacted the King’s relationship with his mother negatively, explaining: “Ever since that day, the shutters have come down. That’s what he does when he gets somebody answering back at him.”

Mr Morton revealed how taken aback he was by the contents of the tapes, saying: “I felt I’d been transported into a parallel universe.

“The Princess was talking about her unhappiness, her sense of betrayal, her suicide attempts — and two things I’d never previously heard of: an eating disorder called bulimia nervosa and a woman called Camilla.”

Diana and Charles eventually separated in 1992, the same year the biography was published, with their divorce officially being finalised in 1996.

In his memoir Spare, published in 2023, the Duke of Sussex took aim at his father’s parenting style, particularly after the death of Diana in 1997.

He recalled that being a single parent was something Charles was “never made for”, admitting “he tried”, but had ultimately “always given an air of being not quite ready for parenthood – the responsibilities, the patience, the time.” He claimed that even King Charles “would’ve admitted as much”.

However royal expert Ingrid Seward later defended the King and his parenting skills, as she told OK! magazine: “He’s really got it in for his father’s parenting. What Harry fails to remember is that Charles had an appointment in his diary every 20 minutes, like the Queen did.

King Charles and Prince Harry laugh together

“He scheduled time with his children and he took them to things like the polo and skiing, and he did gardening and taught them all about plants. He did that kind of fathering.”

Ms Seward believes the feud between Harry and the rest of the royals would have been upsetting for his mother, adding: “Diana used to say, ‘Harry’s the naughty one just like me’, but Diana was far more sensitive to people’s feelings than Harry is.

“She wouldn’t have been so outspoken because she wouldn’t want to hurt William. I imagine that Diana would be very unhappy with the way Harry has spoken about his brother.

“And also I think that Diana felt it was her exclusive right to attack her husband but certainly not her children’s right to attack their father.”

William is under ‘pressure’ as he takes after Kate and his father
It will be his first time in Britain since his sister-in-law, Princess Kate announced she is receiving treatment for cancer.

Doting husband William has been by her side throughout – taking a step back from his royal duties and pulling out of engagements last minute.

And Harry has not appeared in public with his brother since the King’s coronation in May.

Now royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams has revealed that a reunion of the brothers could be “too much pressure” for William who has the “weight of the world on his shoulders”.

Speaking to The Sun, he said: “We know the brothers have no contact reportedly at the moment, and haven’t for some time now.

“For William the pressures are enormous, and I mean for Catherine the pressure is just a given.

“There’s no doubt that it’s going to be an immensely sensitive period. In Williams case he doesn’t want the pressure and the publicity that all this would give. Also he’s he is obviously stubborn.

“He knows that for years the Sussexes have rubbished the royal family, and monetised their links with it.

“William has indeed gone more than most humans could cope with, and from that point of view, nothing may happen.”

After King Charles announced his cancer diagnosis in February, William stepped up to carry out public duties during his absence.

Shortly after, Kate received the shock news that she too would have to go through treatment.

Since then William has had to step up once more – taking care of his wife and protecting his kids.

Richard went on: “I think everyone’s heart goes out to him. I think it’s it’s a dreadful predicament.

“I mean the fact is, however, the marriage with Catherine is close. He’s got his children, and of course that is an enormous responsibility to protect.

A timeline of Prince Harry and William’s ‘feud’: Brothers ‘at war’

In 2018, the Sun told how “simmering tension” began when William questioned the speed of Harry and Meghan’s engagement.

The first hints of friction reportedly came after William was introduced to Meghan when she was staying at Kensington Palace.

Once she’d returned home to Canada, William and Harry sat down for a brother-to-brother chat.

He knew Harry was already head-over-heels for her but it has been claimed he advised him to take it slowly.

The younger prince reportedly didn’t take too kindly to the advice, with one royal source saying he “went mental”.

Then in June 2019 Harry and Meghan officially split off from the charity they shared with William and Kate.

The Royal Foundation will be divided between the Sussexes and Cambridges as the couples focus on their own separate charitable endeavours.

Prince William and Prince Harry first established the Royal Foundation in 2009 before Kate joined two years later shortly after their engagement was announced.

The trio would often appear together at events and the Foundation had huge successes with projects like the Invictus Games for injured veterans and the mental health Heads Together campaign.

The Royal Foundation said the decision was made following the conclusion of a review into its structure – but added both couples will continue to work together in the future.

Harry and Meg were living in close proximity to Kate and Wills within the Kensington Palace estate, but they switched to Frogmore Cottage in Windsor before baby Archie was born.

The move further increased rumours of a fallout.

Harry, 39, also hinted in his ITV documentary “Harry and Meghan, An African Journey” that he and his brother had grown apart.

It came after Prince Philip called Meghan the “D.O.W” after the Duchess of Windsor — the American divorcee who led Edward VIII to abdicate.

And he warned the late Queen to be “cautious” of Harry’s then bride-to-be, a royal author claims.

Ingrid Seward revealed in new book My Mother And I that Prince Philip felt it was “uncanny…how much Meghan reminded him of the Duchess of Windsor”.

In 2021, Harry and Meghan give their bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey where Harry accused his dad of cutting him off financially.

Harry then jetted back to UK to join William in unveiling a statue to their mother Princess Diana in the grounds of Kensington Palace. But sources claimed William didn’t want to attend the memorial amid their ongoing rift.

In 2022, just before their grandmother the Queen died, sources claimed Kate acts as a “peacemaker” between the brothers.

Last year Harry claimed his brother “knocked him to the floor” during an argument about Meghan.

In his book Spare, Harry said William branded Meghan “rude” and “difficult” during a row.

Harry alleged William “grabbed me by the collar, ripping my necklace, and … knocked me to the floor”.

He said he was left with a visible injury to his back following the argument in 2019 at Nottingham Cottage on the grounds of Kensington Palace, where he was living at the time.

In January this year, Harry flew in to be with Charles after the monarch’s shock cancer diagnosis.

Harry flew back to the US the following day – without seeing Wills.

“I think, that people will feel for him. They’ll wish him well. They’ll pray in some cases for him.

“It really is something that is very, very difficult and one can only say that really, and just hope that things work out in both cases, and also he’ll be doing royal engagements when he can.

“Of course his family are the big responsibility, and always who he puts first.”

The Princess of Wales revealed her health battle to the world in an emotional video message on Friday.

The mum-of-three said it came as a “huge shock” to her following further tests after her abdominal surgery in January.

But a source told the New York Post Harry and Meghan found out about Kate when the rest of the world did.

Following Kate’s announcement, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex released a short statement.

The pair said: “We wish health and healing for Kate and the family and hope they are able to do so privately and in peace.”

It comes after Harry and Meghan’s Netflix “cheerleader” targeted Kate moments after her cancer diagnosis shocked the world.

Christopher Bouzy, who had a starring role in Harry and Meghan’s Netflix show, trolled Kate on X/Twitter 31 minutes after her video was released.

The tech mogul, 48, said Kate’s illness was stage-managed akin to “North Korean propaganda”.

Meghan Markle signalled she “still feels like a royal” after she showed off an impressive array of stunning outfits and jewellery during her first abroad tour since stepping down as a working royal, an expert claimed.

The Duchess of Sussex kicked off her 72-hour visit to Nigeria with a £450 peach-coloured maxi dress by American designer Heidi Merrick paired with vintage gold earrings and a matching gold necklace worth £1,453.20 and a £50,000 Lorraine Schwartz ring.

She completed the outfit with a £4,391.86 diamond hex tennis bracelet and a £20,824.70 golden yellow Tank Française watch.

Her first outfit change included a white tailored blazer by Altuzarra which retails for £1,273 and matching trousers worth £460.

Royal expert Jennie Bond questioned her decision to show off such an expensive wardrobe during the visit, noting her fashion picks suggest she still feels the need to dress like a royal.

Bond said: “I personally have a bit of a problem with Meghan or anyone, including members of the Royal Family, wearing such expensive outfits and dripping with jewels that are worth thousands and thousands of pounds when you’re going somewhere like Nigeria.

“Personally, I don’t see how you do that, it feels a bit out of tune when most Nigerians are thinking where the next meal is going to come from. But it’s not only Meghan who does that, the royals do as well.”

As of 2023, an estimated 87 million Nigerians live below the poverty line – the second-largest poor population in the world after India.

Speaking to Times Radio, the expert added: “Perhaps Meghan felt that was what was expected of her because she does still feel royal even though she doesn’t want to be part of the royals.

“I find that a bit odd personally, but she looked great.”

Over the three-day visit, Meghan donned a £2,275.36 Johanna Ortiz black and white printed dress to attend a volleyball match in aid of the local charity Nigeria Unconquered.

She paired up the dress with black leather sandals (£359.27), Heidi Merrick sunglasses (£179.65) and gold disc earrings (2,592.96).

The Duchess of Sussex also paid tribute to late mother-in-law Diana, Princess of Wales as she was spotted wearing her diamond cross necklace for an evening fete in her and Harry’s honour.

According to the Mail, the pro snapper “took a series of pictures of Meghan on her own, cooking, and her with the children.”

Royal editor Ingrid Seward claims Meghan may have gone down the professional route to avoid a photo saga like the Princess of Wales’ Mother Day photo.

Kate Middleton, who is recovering from surgery, admitted she sometimes “experiments with editing” after five large news agencies – PA, AP, Getty Images, Reuters, and, AFP – all withdrew the pic – snapped by William – due to fears it had been “edited at source”.

The picture saga triggered a wave of conspiracy theories about Kate, which were trashed when The Sun published video of Kate walking with Wills in Windsor.

Speaking to Fabulous, Ingrid said Meghan would have taken note of Kate’s issues with her photographs.

She said: “The Duchess of Sussex has always been a survivor. She would never risk allowing her husband to take family photographs as Kate did with the Mother’s day snaps.

“If Meghan is going to pose for pictures, she wants them to be professional, well-lit and above all flattering.

“Harry was never going to manage that.”

She added: “Neither would Meghan have involved herself in the ensuing editing debate.

“Using a professional avoids any blips.”

Meghan and Harry were criticised after appearing to make a slight at Kate after the photoshop fail, although it emerged some of their own family pictures appeared to benefit from editing.

The photoshoot in Meghan and Harry’s Montecito home coincides with the launch of her new lifestyle website, American Riviera Orchard.

Ingrid observed: “When she hired Canadian photographer Jack Rosenberg to take her ‘family snaps’ her reasoning was twofold.

“Firstly, she needed some photographs to promote her new lifestyle and cookery website, American Riviera Orchard.

“Secondly as the photographer had flown in from New York – a six-and-a-half-hour flight – it made sense to put him to good use.

“There is nothing unusual about celebrities using famous photographers to take their ‘snaps’.

“If they can afford it – or in Meghan’s case wrap it into another job so it doesn’t cost much – it makes perfect sense.”

The photos of Princess Lilibet, two, and Prince Archie, four, are thought to be remaining private and are unrelated to Meghan’s business.

Industry insiders said the site will focus on home, food, garden and lifestyle goods.

A source told the Mail: “It’s a lifestyle and cooking brand called American Riviera Orchard.

“The brand is meant to coincide with the launch of a new cookery show for Netflix.

“Meghan will be making, and selling, products such as jams. And at some point there will be a book and blog etc.”

However, Ingrid said there is a possibility we could see them in May.

She added: “The resulting pictures will be private so they say, but with Archie’s fifth birthday coming up in May maybe Meghan and Harry might be tempted to issue a portrait of the adorable looking little Prince.

“After all he is the King’s grandson and however much the Duke and Duchess of Sussex claim to value their privacy, they won’t want us forgetting that.”

Jake, originally from Toronto where Meghan lived while filming Suits, has photographed Meghan a number of times.

His website states: “His lens has captured the radiance of talent such as Meghan Markle, Oprah Winfrey, Priyanka Chopra, Cindy Crawford, David Beckham, and Michael B. Jordan, unveiling their authentic personas through his vibrant imagery.”

According to a report from Page Six, Meghan’s American Riviera Orchard company will focus on home, garden, food, and general lifestyle content.

The brand will reportedly sell a variety of home goods, such as cookbooks, foods, and kitchenware.

The source said: “She’s been working on this for over a year and it’s all the things that are close to her heart — all the things she’s passionate about.”

A trademark application for ‘American Riviera Orchard’ showed Meghan is planning to sell cutlery, decanters, legume-based spreads and even napkin rings.

The Princess of Wales, 42, underwent the “planned abdominal surgery” in January at the London Clinic.

Kensington Palace said at the time Kate was unlikely to return to public duties until after Easter.

The unrelenting rain didn’t dampen King Charles’ spirits as he enjoyed a garden party at Buckingham Palace with his relatives, earning him widespread praise.

Footage shared by @theroyalwatcher2 showed Prince William holding court with attendees of the function, which was in honour of his father, King Charles III. The video’s caption explained: “Prince William hosts a garden party at Buckingham Palace along with his cousins”, which included princesses Beatrice and Eugenie, and Zara, who was accompanied by her spouse Mike Tindall.

Making his summer debut and showing solidarity with King Charles, the Prince of Wales turned heads in a morning suit complemented by a top hat. Mingling amongst the crowd was Prince William, whose amicable disposition and avid conversations were noted. Likewise, the Tindalls immersed themselves in conversations with intrigued members of the public.

Unfazed by the inclement weather conditions, many took selfies with their well-wishers, their smiles lighting up the occasion.

It was Prince William’s affable demeanour, however, that sparked compliments within the comments section of the TikTok video. One viewer commented that he is “just like his mother he’ll always make her proud”, paying tribute to his late mother, Princess Diana; met with collective agreement as another added: “Big time”.

Princess Diana’s legacy of compassion lives on, as highlighted by Philanthropy Roundtable: “At the time of her death Princess Diana remained official patron of Royal Marsden NHS Trust (a cancer fund); Greater Ormond Street Children’s Hospital, London; the National AIDS Trust (an umbrella for a wide array of AIDS causes in the United Kingdom); The Leprosy Mission; the English National Ballet; and Centrepoint Soho (which provides services to homeless youth)”. Her son Prince William is certainly following in her footsteps with his dedication to charitable causes.

During a recent engagement, Prince William mingled with individuals from several of his patronages, including Homewards, the homelessness initiative he unveiled last year, and members of the armed forces. He even shared a light-hearted moment with representatives from Swim England, where he serves as patron, quipping about the British weather being “good weather for swimming”.

The attendance of Prince William and his cousins at this sombre event sends a powerful message of solidarity and strength during challenging times.

There’s speculation that 75 year old Prince Charles was absent because Queen Camilla has been encouraging him to take things easier, despite his already crammed schedule of Royal duties.

Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie stepped out with older cousin Prince William this week as he hosted his first garden party of the year at Buckingham Palace.

Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie appeared to signal which side they are on in the ongoing feud between Prince Harry and Prince William, according to a royal commentator.

The daughters of the Duke and Duchess of York joined the Prince of Wales and their cousin Zara Tindall at Buckingham Palace in a show of support for the future king during his first garden party of the year.

Beatrice and Eugenie are known to have maintained close communications with the Duke of Sussex since his departure from the institution.

But GB News royal editor Svar Nanan-Sen noted their presence at the garden party could be considered as a “real statement” on where their loyalties ultimately lie.

Nanan-Sen said: “Something I did take away from it is that Beatrice and Eugenie, in particular, we know how close they are to Prince Harry.

“Earlier this month they both chose not to attend Prince Harry’s Invictus event at St Paul’s Cathedral.

“And it felt like a real statement that Beatrice and Eugenie had chosen to go to Prince William’s garden party so soon after snubbing Harry’s event.”

The Duke of Sussex briefly returned to the UK earlier this month to attend a special service marking the 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games.

Whilst in London, he did not meet with either his father the King or the Prince of Wales and the only relatives joining him at St Paul’s Cathedral were his maternal uncle Earl Spencer and aunt Lady Jane Fellowes.

The royal editor questioned whether Beatrice and Eugenie’s decision could signal younger royals are now stepping in to put up a “united front” after years of speculation about fraught relations behind the scenes.

He told GB News’s The Royal Record: “Is this now the younger generation of the Royal Family coming together publicly and putting on a united front?

“It’s just the contrasting appearance of all the younger generation flocking to this Buckingham Palace garden party while Prince Harry was left alone at St Paul’s Cathedral with no working member of the Royal Family and he was only joined by Diana’s side of the family. That’s something that really struck me.”

Beatrice and Eugenie routinely attended garden parties at the Palace when hosted by the late Queen and this week stepped in to help William welcome guests connected to several charities he and the Princess of Wales have worked with in the past.

Though she was in the room alone with the camera crew, the former Manchester United player peaked his head into the room telling her to “be honest.”

“I am being honest,” she replied.

David, who seemed to know better, then asked her, “What car did your dad drive you to school in?”

After a bit of back and forth, Victoria said, “OK, in the ’80s, my dad had a Rolls Royce.”

“Thank you,” David said before his head disappeared from the room.
