TV star Gil Gerard has passed away at the age of 82.

The Buck Rogers In The 25th Century legend’s wife, Janet, has announced he died at his Georgia home on Tuesday following a short battle with cancer. “Early this morning Gil – my soulmate – lost his fight with a rare and viciously aggressive form of cancer,” Janet shared in a Facebook post.

She continued, “From the moment when we knew something was wrong to his death this morning was only days. No matter how many years I got to spend with him it would have ever been enough. Hold the ones you have tightly and love them fiercely.” Janet also shared Gil’s heartbreaking final message, which he had left in a note for when he passed away.

Prior to his role on Buck Rogers in the 25th Century, Gil played Dr Alan Stewart on a total of 303 episodes of The Doctors from 1973 until 1976. The Arkansas-native star appeared in all 32 episodes of the series, which ran for two seasons from 1979–1981, and was broadcast on NBC.

Buck Rogers In The 25th Century was intended to capitalize on the popularity of Star Wars, incorporating more comedic elements. The show also starred the likes of Erin Gray, Felix Silla, Tim O’Connor, Eric Server, and legendary voiceover artist Mel Blanc

After Gil had recovered from his surgery, the show showed his “Buck Rogers” co-star Erin Gray, having a tearful reunion with him nearly a year after he went under the knife, by which time he had shed a whopping 140 pounds.

Looking back, Gerard asked, “If I hadn’t had this surgery, where would I be? If I was lucky,” he answered, “I’d be dead because I wouldn’t want to be living the life I would have been living a year later if I hadn’t had the surgery. I really did not want to die.”

After the news of the beloved star’s death broke on Tuesday evening, fans have since dashed to social media to pay their respects by praising his talents onscreen and his humility offscreen.

One fan shared, “RIP Gil Gerard – aka Buck Rogers, My older brother and I had a chance to meet him at a con once and he gave us his undivided attention. Pleasure to meet him.”

Another user penned, “When I was growing up, I had 3 favorite TV shows that I used to record on my cassette recorder: Star Trek, Battlestar Galactica & Buck Rogers in the 25th Century. Buck Rogers was one of my heroes & I’m sad to hear about the passing of GIL GERARD at the age of 82.”

A third person added, “So sorry to hear about the great Gil Gerard,” adding that the late actor and his co-star Erin were “wonderful people” when he met them at a convention.

“Farewell to Gil Gerard. I loved Buck Rogers when I was little & thought he was the coolest cat in the 25th century. I still occasionally hum the theme song,” someone else chimed in, prompting a fifth to say, “Bidi-bidi-bidi. You’re the best, Buck,” in a Buck Rogers reference.

A FORMULA ONE star went undercover under a FAKE NAME at a British karting track – but FAILED to make the podium.

F1’s Kimi Antonelli, who is a pro driver for Mercedes, was the man in question.

The Italian, 19, got behind the wheel and raced punters who were unaware who he was at the time.

It wasn’t until he removed his helmet that people clocked on.

Daniel Prince from Daytona spilled the beans on the F1 driver’s visit and confirmed he FAILED to make the top three because of “two penalties” for “pushing too hard”.

Speaking to BBC Three Counties Radio, he said: “He actually got two penalties for pushing too hard so didn’t finish on the podium at the end of it.

“But he did get the fastest lap of the race by at least three seconds.”

So what happened when his cover was blown?

Price continued: “Everyone really mobbed him so a member of staff quickly rescued him and put him behind the desk for a cheeky photo by our celebrity leaderboard, and then he ran away and left.”

Antonelli finished the 2025 F1 season in seventh position.

He scored 150 season points across the campaign.

In 24 Grand Prix races he picked up 135 points and 3 podium finishes in that run.

He also managed to clock 14 top 10s.

Former contestant on the British version of Dancing with the Stars, Thomas Skinner, seems to be the latest celebrity taking aim at the BBC after Donald Trump filed a $10 billion defamation lawsuit against the network.

The British reality television personality, and pal of JD Vance, is reportedly taking legal action against the broadcaster, alleging that he believes the dance competition’s voting system was manipulated.

Reports suggest he thinks he possesses evidence that there was misconduct designed to boot him off of Strictly Come Dancing as quickly as possible. The Apprentice alumnus and his professional dance partner, Amy Dowden, received their walking papers early in the season.

The program combined judges’ scores from the opening two weeks alongside results from a viewer poll. Although the BBC never disclosed the exact number of public votes each celebrity received, Thomas allegedly believes he can demonstrate they intentionally minimized his tally.

A source suggests he’s now taking a page from the US president’s playbook by pursuing legal action against the network. An insider told The Sun, “Thomas is adamant he got a larger share of the public vote and believes he has the evidence to prove it. He is determined to see it through, but there’s no way the BBC will take this sensational claim lying down.”

The source continued, “They’ll robustly defend any kinds of claims that the voting was rigged or fixed.”

When approached for a response to these allegations, a BBC representative informed The Mirror, “Strictly Come Dancing’s public vote is robust and independently overseen and verified to ensure complete accuracy.”

Corporation insiders also confirmed to The Mirror that no legal complaint or documentation has been received regarding this issue. According to a source for The Sun, Thomas was allegedly invited back for the final this weekend, but there’s no chance he’ll accept.

The insider claimed that Thomas has been “embroiled in disputes with executives ever since he was sent home.” They added, “He’s convinced the BBC was determined to oust him as quickly as possible – regardless of how many fans rallied behind him.”

Despite these claims, it’s reported that Thomas’ absence this weekend is simply due to a previous engagement. Amy, however, will return to twirl with her fellow ballroom dancers.

This year’s season also featured stars like Geordie Shore icon Vicky Pattison, Emmerdale’s Lewis Cope, and Doctor Who actress Alex Kingston.

They’re all expected to return to the dance floor, along with other past contestants such as drag queen La Voix, entertainment expert Ross King, and Gladiator Harry Aikines-Aryeetey, among others.

Thomas has been the subject of speculation since his initial participation in the series. He caused a stir with his off-the-dance-floor antics before the show even began.

He faced criticism over his social media posts, notably a selfie with Vice US President JD Vance, and later stormed out of the press launch for Strictly, snatching a journalist’s phone. Then, an affair came to light when Thomas confessed to cheating on his wife just weeks after their nuptials.

The Mirror also disclosed that one of his companies hasn’t repaid a £50,000 Covid bounce back loan.

Major Cain twist ‘confirmed’ for Celia and Ray in Emmerdale ITVX release FV

Major Cain twist ‘confirmed’ for Celia and Ray in Emmerdale ITVX release

The following article contains spoilers from an episode of Emmerdale that hasn’t aired on ITV1 yet, but can be viewed on ITVX.

Marlon Dingle (Mark Charnock) is a desperate man in Emmerdale. Since discovering that daughter April (Amelia Flanagan) has become involved in Celia Daniels (Jaye Griffiths) and Ray Walters (Joe Absolom)’s drugs enterprise, the family have found themselves in an absolute nightmare.

They are under no illusions about what Ray and Celia are capable of, after Celia forced them to watch a live stream of Ray deliberately running Dylan (Fred Kettle) over. Dylan is now in hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Marlon’s plan for the family to flee together was thwarted by Ray, who reminded them that he had people watching them at all times.

In Tuesday (December 9)’s episode, Marlon had been up all night worrying about how to get out of the clutches of the drugs gang and keep April safe. He concluded that the only way was to pay off the debt that April owes Ray.

Viewers know that this ‘debt’ was created when Ray arranged for a package of drugs that April was delivering to be stolen. By making her think that she was working to pay off money that she owed him for her mistake, Ray has been able to control April and Dylan for months.

Rhona (Zoe Henry) doesn’t know this but she did know that paying off the debt wouldn’t solve the problem. Ray would keep moving the goalposts, she told her husband, and the debt would never be cleared.

Instead she had another plan. Why didn’t they tell Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley) what was going on? If there was one person who wouldn’t be scared of Ray, it was Cain – who will do anything to protect his family if they’re under threat.

He could even bring in reinforcements, Rhona suggested. The Ireland branch of the family could be mobilised to help, and Ross (Mike Parr) would probably get involved.

April’s family now know what she’s been going through (Picture: ITV)

Ray and Celia have no intention of letting April go (Picture: ITV)
It all sounded like a brilliant plan, but Marlon had some very valid reservations. They had no idea how big Celia’s operation was, he reasoned. And having seen what they were prepared to do to Dylan, and how Ray threatened Rhona, Marlon couldn’t countenance putting Cain’s children, Kyle (Huey Quinn) and Isaac (Bobby Dunsmuir), into that kind of danger.

So he went back to the plan of raising the cash – but this took him straight to Cain, as he asked him to sell his car as quickly as possible. Cain didn’t believe the story that Marlon was giving him about why he was in such a hurry for the money, so he called in on him later.

That’s when Cain caught Ray physically threatening Marlon in his house. After telling Marlon that the debt was £20k, Ray had told him that April would have to keep working until it was paid off, and Marlon lunged at him.

This was when Cain came in and quickly sent Ray on his way after Marlon covered for him by saying he’d rammed Ray’s car and that’s why he needed the money. Later he told Cain he had no insurance.

None of this was really adding up for Cain, so although Marlon reassured Ray later that he’d ‘shut Cain down,’ he hadn’t really. Cain is still suspicious about what’s going on with Marlon and knows he’s in more trouble than he’s letting on – and possibly that it has something to do with Ray.

Could Cain be the one to take down Ray and Celia?

  • The Ferrari Nightmare: Inside the Total Collapse of Lewis Hamilton’s Legendary Career

The Ferrari Nightmare: Inside the Total Collapse of Lewis Hamilton’s Legendary Career

The lights of Las Vegas usually represent glamour, speed, and the pinnacle of sporting achievement. But in November 2025, they cast a harsh glow on a sight no Formula 1 fan ever expected to see: Lewis Hamilton, the seven-time World Champion, sitting 20th on the grid. He wasn’t there because of a gearbox penalty or a crashed car in qualifying. He was there because, for the first time in a career spanning nearly two decades, he simply wasn’t fast enough. “I’m just useless,” Hamilton muttered over the radio, a haunting admission from a man who redefined the limits of the sport.

What was supposed to be the “Greatest Romance” in motorsport history—the union of the most successful driver and the most iconic team—has devolved into a technical and psychological disaster. The 2025 season wasn’t just a “bad year” for Hamilton; it was a total collapse of the aura of invincibility that had surrounded him since 2007. For the first time in 19 years and 343 races, Lewis Hamilton completed an entire season without standing on a Grand Prix podium.

The Ferrari Dream Turns Into a Cold War

The hype in February 2025 was biblical. When Hamilton donned the Ferrari red at Maranello, the world expected magic. However, by the fifth race, the cracks were already wide open. While Hamilton secured a victory in a Sprint race in China, it was a hollow triumph followed by a double disqualification for the team. It was the first time in 75 years that both Ferrari drivers were thrown out of a race, a screaming warning sign of the operational chaos to come.

The true betrayal, however, was technical. In April 2025, Ferrari made a ruthless executive decision: they halted all development on the SF-25 car to focus entirely on the 2026 regulation changes. Hamilton was left driving a machine frozen in time while rivals like McLaren and Red Bull evolved every weekend. He wasn’t just racing against other drivers; he was racing against a car philosophy he fundamentally loathed. The ground-effect era, which rewards a smooth and patient driving style, favored his teammate Charles Leclerc. Hamilton’s signature aggressive turn-in and late braking were punished by the SF-25, leading to three consecutive Q1 eliminations—a humiliating record for any Ferrari driver.

The Document Scandal and Internal Friction

Behind the scenes, the situation was even more toxic. Hamilton, a driven perfectionist who helped build the Mercedes dynasty, attempted to apply his expertise at Maranello. He authored detailed performance analysis documents and operational roadmaps for Ferrari’s senior leadership. The response? Silence. Sources suggest that Charles Leclerc and team management largely ignored his input, leading to a culture clash that left Hamilton feeling like an outsider in his own garage.

The frustration boiled over after the Abu Dhabi finale. “I have just a lot of rage,” Hamilton admitted, stripping away the polished PR filter he has worn for twenty years. This wasn’t disappointment; it was the raw fury of a champion who felt sabotaged by a system that refused to adapt. With technical director Enrico Cardile fleeing to Aston Martin mid-season and Hamilton clashing with his own engineers over miscommunications, the Scuderia had become a “tomb of bitterness.”

    The Stats of a Downfall

The numbers from 2025 are brutal. Hamilton finished sixth in the standings, a staggering 86 points behind Leclerc. He was out-qualified and out-raced by his teammate 18 times in 21 races. While Leclerc salvaged seven podiums for the team, Hamilton’s trophy cabinet remained empty for the first time in his professional life. Ferrari finished fourth in the Constructors’ Championship—their worst result in the modern era.

Critics and former associates have been quick to weigh in. Gunther Steiner warned that another flat season would make retirement “inevitable,” while Nico Rosberg noted that age might finally be catching up with Hamilton’s reflexes, much like it did with Michael Schumacher during his Mercedes comeback. Unlike Fernando Alonso, who has maintained his edge through various racing disciplines, Hamilton appears to be struggling with a specific generation of cars that do not speak his language.

2026: Resurrection or the Final Nail?

Despite the “retirement” whispers that exploded after his “we’re done” comment in Las Vegas, Hamilton remains defiant. He has made it clear that he will be on the grid in 2026, but that season now carries the weight of his entire legacy.

The 2026 regulations offer a glimmer of hope. With the end of the ground-effect era and the introduction of active aerodynamics and lighter cars, the “old” style of driving might become viable again. This is the “Redemption” scenario: Ferrari nails the engine regulations, the car suits Hamilton’s aggressive rotation, and he secures the elusive eighth world title before retiring on his own terms.

However, the “Final Fall” scenario is equally plausible. If 2026 starts with the same struggles, Ferrari has already prepared contingency plans to replace him with a younger driver. In this version of the story, the greatest driver of a generation is remembered not for his 103 wins, but for the Ferrari disaster that broke him.

As we look toward the future, one question remains: Has Lewis Hamilton already driven his last competitive lap? Charles Leclerc said it best: “Next year is now or never.” For Lewis Hamilton, 2026 isn’t just about winning a trophy; it’s about proving to the world—and perhaps to himself—that he still belongs among the gods of speed.

Scott Mitchell says he is still haunted by the memories of witnessing the deterioration of his legendary actress wife Dame Barbara Windsor, who died five years ago tomorrow – but he’s determined to remember the good times.

The EastEnders icon, who played feisty Queen Vic landlady Peggy Mitchell for over a decade, died in December 2020 aged 83, six years after being diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease.

Her death was mourned by her millions of fans who fell in love with her glamour, comedy timing and ability to light up and command any stage or screen. Five years on, her widow Scott, 62, says Barbara’s infectious energy is “still very present”, but so too are the memories of what the disease robbed her of.

“I wish I never had to experience the terror in Barbara’s eyes, when she didn’t know where she was, who I was – who she was” he exclusively tells the Mirror.

“That haunts me. No human being should have to leave this world in the way those suffering with dementia do. Nobody. That’s why we have to keep talking about it.

Scott says Barbara’s final years still ‘haunt’ him – but he wants to remember the special person she was(Image: DAILY EXPRESS)

He adds emotionally of the disease which now affects 1 in 2 people in Britain – either personally, or as a loved one caring for someone, “Having witnessed it first hand, developing dementia myself is actually my biggest fear – absolutely. I think it’s most people’s.”

Scott adds, “I’ve been thinking of how she was at the end – and it’s made me think about how vitally important it is that we all remember what Barbara stood for before this devastating illness took hold.

“And that was an incredibly vivacious, fun-loving, talented, positive lady who brought real joy to people’s lives. Still now, when people talk about her, they smile – they can’t help it.”

Together for 27 years, Scott, who found love again with former EastEnders actress Tanya Franks (Rainie Cross), says he still receives and takes comfort in “signs” from his late wife.

“I was asked to do a talk a couple of months ago at a literary festival in Gibraltar and I got lost in the hotel and found myself in the Windsor Room,” he says. “And the other weekend, I stayed on a housebarge not long ago by the river -the boat was called Little Babs. One of the other boats in the marina was called Peggy!”

He also visits her final resting place in Golders Green Crematorium, London, where there is a plaque in the West Courtyard which reads, “She was a good bird” – the obituary title she chose herself, on Piers Morgan ‘s Life Stories.

“We have a nice little chat, ” he explains. “Your loved ones are always with you, you know? I don’t believe people die and that’s the end of it. I believe our loved ones are around us.”

While she received her diagnosis of dementia in 2014, Barbara, who was appointed a Dame in 2016 for services to charity and entertainment, kept the news private for the next four years.

But the outpouring of love and support led to her to become an ambassador for the Alzheimer’s Society and a year before her death, she and Scott delivered a petition to Downing Street to highlight concerns over dementia care.

Scott tells us “charities have told me that she completely changed the narrative on dementia”. He now campaigns as the People’s Champion of the Dame Barbara Windsor Dementia Goals Programme – put in place while Boris Johnson was still in office, and recommitted to by the current government.

“In the 10-year health plan just published, they mention this programme – and to me, that’s such an honour for Barbara.

“I’m passionate about social care, which we discussed at Downing Street five years ago. Five years on, and we know that people are still struggling desperately – it needs revisited. I know I can’t save the world, nor can Barbara’s name – but we can make a difference. And people desperately need to know help is on the way.”

Scott has also made an important decision – to no longer align himself to one charity, as he had done for the past five years with Alzheimer’s Research UK.

“I’m now open to supporting other dementia charities if I feel Barbara’s name is the right association for specific campaigns”, he says. “In the past I have said no, as I was more aligned with one charity. There are many areas of the Dementia world that I feel passionately about.”

And it’s not only Scott keeping Barbara’s memory alive. Famous faces such as David Walliams, Matt Lucas, Ross Kemp and other EastEnders stars – as well as Paul O’Grady before he died, not only continue to speak about her, but have been there for Scott since her passing.

“We have this niche of incredible people who’ve always been there. When somebody becomes ill like Barbara did, you really notice who drops away – who your real friends are. But they stood fast. Tanya and I go out with David and his mum a lot, we’re always reminiscing!”

Speaking of Tanya, Scott admits he has no qualms talking to her about his late wife. “She allows me to talk about Barbara any time I need to. In the same way she can with me. I’m never second-guessing if the moment’s right.”

Tanya will also regularly accompany Scott to his regular talks about the lived experience of caring for someone with Alzheimer’s. He says, “The first thing I do is introduce Tanya and say, ‘Before we start I’d like to acknowledge my partner Tanya is here – and thank her for allowing me to share my story.”

“If I thought any of it hurt her, I wouldn’t do it. But she has her own invested passion when it comes to Alzheimer’s – her step-dad Derek died last year after an 11-year journey with it. We’re both passionate about campaigning.”

Scott met Tanya doing the London Marathon when various EastEnders cast members got together to run in Barbara’s name, when she was still alive. Tanya and Barbara’s time never crossed in Albert Square, but they met during training for the marathon.

Barbara ‘loved other people – and hearing their stories’(Image: PA)

“The team used to come to our house”, explains Scott, “and Tanya and Barbara got on really well. Barbara liked Tanya – she’d say, ‘She asks sensible questions about acting.’

“Tanya wanted to know all about theatre director Joan Littlewood, she knew her stuff and that meant a lot to Barbara. It was lovely that they did meet.”

But his new romance hasn’t been without judgemental comments. “There’s always that person that says, ‘That was quick!’ It’s easy to sit on the sidelines and cast judgement – especially with social media. These people forget that their words can really hurt.”

On the flipside, Scott gets many more people coming up to him, to this day, wanting to talk about Barbara. “The legacy she’s left is amazing. Every London cabbie asks me about her – they all say, she is ‘so missed’, popping up on TV – spreading that infectious laugh.

“Certain people truly earn the title of national treasure – Barbara was one of them. But for me, I’ll simply remember how she was, how loving she was with me. She made me laugh so much – she was true to herself, honest about her flaws and her past.

“She taught me a lot about getting rid of ego – I wasn’t as good at that in my younger days. People laughed when we first got together, but we lasted the course – it was unconditional love.”

He laughs, “It took us forever to go anywhere, she’d talk to everyone. It was like walking down the street with Tinkerbell. She loved other people and their stories – she would sprinkle her special fairy dust on everyone.”

As the dust settles on a year that saw a dramatic shift in the power dynamics of the grid, new revelations regarding Lewis Hamilton’s future and a significant branding change for Max Verstappen have sent shockwaves through the racing community.

For Lewis Hamilton, the dream move to Ferrari has, thus far, been more of a nightmare. Entering the 2025 season with the weight of expectation that only a seven-time World Champion can carry, Hamilton found himself grappling with a Ferrari SF-25 that lacked the pace to challenge the front-runners. The statistics tell a sobering story: a season with no Grand Prix podiums, three consecutive Q1 exits in the final triple-header, and a sixth-place finish in the standings—trailing his teammate Charles Leclerc by a staggering 86 points.

Naturally, these results fueled a firestorm of speculation. Critics and fans alike began to wonder if the “Goat” had finally lost his edge or if the motivation to continue at the pinnacle of motorsport had evaporated. However, veteran Sky Sports F1 commentator David Croft has stepped forward to provide much-needed clarity. Speaking recently about a private conversation he held with Hamilton in Las Vegas, Croft dismissed the retirement talk entirely.

“Lewis is coming back,” Croft stated firmly. “He’s not going to retire; he’s not going to step down. He’ll be on the grid in 2026.” Croft emphasized that while the constant questioning about his pace must be “demoralizing” for a champion of Hamilton’s stature, the British driver remains a “great fighter.” The private chat suggested a driver who simply needs to rediscover his self-belief and remember that the inherent ability that secured 103 wins has not vanished overnight. The consensus remains that a refreshed Hamilton will return in 2026, determined to prove that his Ferrari chapter is far from over.

While Hamilton fights to reclaim his throne, Max Verstappen is preparing for a different kind of transition. After four years of carrying the number one as the reigning World Champion, Verstappen must vacate the prestigious digit following Lando Norris’s triumphant 2025 title campaign. While Norris has confirmed he will take up the number one for 2026, the question remained: what would Verstappen choose?

Historically, Verstappen has been synonymous with the number 33. However, it has been revealed that the Dutchman has never truly been a fan of the double-digit. His heart has always belonged to the number three—a number that has been occupied by his former teammate and friend, Daniel Ricciardo, since the permanent number system was introduced. Under FIA regulations, a driver’s number remains reserved for two seasons after they leave the sport, meaning the three was technically off-limits until the end of 2026.

In a surprising turn of events, a recent FIA rule change has allowed drivers more flexibility to change their numbers during their careers. Leveraging this new regulation and reportedly securing the blessing of Ricciardo, Verstappen has confirmed he will move to a single number three for the 2026 season. “I’ve always said it represented double happiness, but of course, I’ve already had my luck in F1,” Verstappen noted regarding his old 33. He expressed a clear preference for the simplicity of the single digit as he enters a new era of his career, no longer as the hunted, but as the hunter.

As we look toward 2026, the narratives are set. One legend is battling for his legacy in scarlet red, while another sheds his championship skin to return to his roots. The faces remain the same, but the numbers and the stakes have never been higher. One thing is certain: the drama of Formula 1 is only just beginning.

The tensions play out publicly at The Woolpack and Celia shows just how manipulative she can be, as she pretends to be the injured party in front of the other punters.

Later, Moira confides in Cain about the mess that she’s now in thanks to Celia. Going to the police seems out of the question, as she could find herself in a whole world of trouble if she draws attention to the situation.

When Cain points out that Celia’s son Ray is also a dodgy character, he suggests that it’s time for decisive action…

“I’m thinking I don’t trust [Ray] either,” Cain muses. “The way he was when Marlon backed into his car.

We go there tomorrow and we ask questions together…”

Moira replies: “Okay, agreed. I don’t take kindly to conniving, two-faced users. You better brace yourself, Celia.”
