Prince William’s subtle show of support for King Charles that Prince Harry has never done

Prince William and King Charles are marking the 80th anniversary of D-Day, with the heir to the throne showing his loyalty to the crown.

Prince William has been spotted subtly showing his support for King Charles during his speech to kick off the D-Day 80th anniversary celebrations in Portsmouth.

Both William and the King were proudly displaying their military medals, with the Prince of Wales sporting one medal of particular interest – the King’s Coronation medal.

This honour was created to mark the Coronation of King Charles and Queen Camilla on May 6 2023, and is awarded to those who contributed significantly to the ceremony, as well as members of the Armed Forces and veterans.

Both William and Prince Harry have been given one, however Harry has not yet been spotted wearing his in what some have viewed as a snub to his father.

The Duke of Sussex donned a number of medals at the Invictus Games 10th anniversary service at St Paul’s Cathedral, but his Coronation medal was not seen on his lapel.

Amongst the medals that Harry did wear to the service was one awarded to him by the late Queen Elizabeth for “services to the monarchy”, donning five in total.

As he entered St Paul’s the Duke wore the Knight Commander of the Royal Victorian Order (KCVO) medal around his neck, with four others pinned to his lapel.

These were the Operational Service Medal for Afghanistan, awarded for his service in Helmand Province, his Queen’s Golden Jubilee Medal, Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal, and the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Medal.

The Duke of Sussex also noticeably avoided wearing his Coronation medal during a video presentation of the award for ‘Soldier of the Year’, despite wearing four other ones.

However a source told the Daily Mail that the real reason behind his decision not to wear it was more practical than an attempt to get back at the Royal Family.

They explained that the medal had been “swing-mounted” on a short ribbon and needed to be adjusted onto a longer ribbon before it could be worn to “stop it from swinging around”.

Prince William proudly wore five military medals as he gave a moving speech which left many in the crowd feeling emotional.

He said: “I am deeply honoured to join you today to recognise the bravery of all of those like John Haddock who participated in the D-Day landings, the start of the liberation of France and Europe, that led to victory of the Allied Powers.

“Our guests of honour today are those veterans from the Normandy landing, that came from across our nation and from all walks of life to join in the fight against tyranny.

“Many of those that took up arms had never seen combat before, some were still only in their teens.”

  • Eamonn Holmes posts about Irish romance as Ruth Langsford’s pals hit out

Eamonn Holmes posts about Irish romance as Ruth Langsford’s pals hit out

Eamonn Holmes, 64, is appearing to ignore recent comments made by Ruth Langsford’s friends regarding her hurt over his friendship with another woman

Eamonn Holmes has brushed off comments from Ruth Langsford’s pals about her “hurt” over his friendship with another woman by posting about his favourite Irish romance.

It comes as Ruth, 64, is set to take a break from ITV’s Loose Women for the rest of the month as she struggles with the split and fallout. She is said to be upset over the discovery that, in the wake of their separation, her husband Eamonn, 64, is being consoled by another woman with whom he’s been on a string of outings.

Taking to Instagram, Eamonn posted a photo from 1952 classic The Quiet Man, starring John Wayne and Maureen O’Hara. He wrote: “Probably my favourite film ever. A Romantic view of Ireland. Amazingly released 72 years ago.”

His followers quickly took to their comments to share their appreciation of the film, with one writing: “They just don’t make films like that anymore . I’ve read that Maureen was his favourite leading lady and I can see why.” While another commented: “Grew up watching this with my grandparents and still watch it to this day. ‘When I drink whiskey, I drink whiskey; and when I drink water, I drink water’ Michaleen.”

It comes after Eamonn and Ruth’s relationship was dubbed unmendable by pals, who say that there is “no chance” of the pair reconciling. It has been suggested that a large part of the reason is the revelation that Eamonn, 64, is being consoled by a blonde divorcee in her 40s.

Eamonn and his lady friend are believed to have met while she was working as a relationship counsellor and have struck up a friendship over the past couple of years. He is said to have taken her out to a number of venues including a trip in February to a safari park, plus a Manchester United game, Centre Parcs and a Beyonce gig. Eamonn is said to have grown close to the woman over the past year.

An insider close to Eamonn said earlier this month that the woman is “bowled over by being lavished with attention and kindness from him”.

Ruth is believed to have not known about their day trips until recently and it has been described as a key factor in their decision to call time on their relationship. She has also been left “deeply upset” over suggestions that she’s walked away from her marriage because of Eamonn’s ongoing health woes.

“Ruth was hurt when she learned about Eamonn’s friendship with another woman but she is strong and she will be back soon with a smile on her face, putting her best foot forward, as she always does. She needs a bit of time to regroup after everything that’s gone on, which is understandable, but she plans to return to Loose Women, with renewed vigour, in July,” a source told the Mirror.

It has been suggested that a large part of the reason is the revelation that Eamonn Holmes, 64, is being consoled by a blonde divorcee, with whom he’s enjoyed a string of outings with. After discovering Eamonn’s new friendship with the woman in her 40s, Ruth is said to have been “hurt” and is currently taking a break from Loose Women and her ITV presenting duties.

She needs a bit of time to regroup after everything that’s gone on, which is understandable, but she plans to return to Loose Women, with renewed vigour, in July,” a source told the Mirror.

Friends have said that there is “no way back” for Ruth and Eamonn’s marriage and that the couple are heading straight for divorce. Ruth, 64, is taking the rest of June off from presenting but will returning in July. She last appeared on TV in May.

The GB News presenter, who had a double hip replacement in 2015 and a spinal operation in 2022, is said to have grown particularly close to the woman over the past year. They made contact via social media having been loosely connected, via a mental health charity, for some time. The woman is said to volunteer for a charity which Eamonn became involved with following the death of Ruth’s sister, Julia Johnson, who had suffered with depression.

Ruth nursed her husband of 14 years through his back surgery and subsequent broken shoulder which he sustained after falling down the stairs at their home in Surrey. “The thing that deeply upsets and frustrates her is the notion that she’s ditching him because of his ongoing health issues,” one pal said. “That is not true. She’s always been there for him. But she has struggled with the knowledge that he’s not always been honest with her.”

Last night a spokesperson for Ruth said: “Ruth had holiday time booked from Loose Women and has extended her leave. She’s looking forward to returning to the show in due course.” Earlier this week Ruth posted pictures of her trip to the hairdresser to have her highlights redone, thanking her stylist, Josh Wood, for her new glam look.

Eamonn returned to the GB News breakfast show, which he co-hosts, just a few days after news of their divorce was made pubic. While he alluded to their break-up, and thanked viewers for the kind messages they’d sent to both him and Ruth, he was then able to focus fully on presenting the news.

A pal said it was harder for Ruth, as a host on panel discussion show Loose Women, because the topics often covered relationship issues and matters of the heart which made it tricky to escape what she was going though herself. The couple, who have a 22-year-old son, Jack, had been an item for a total of 27 years before deciding to split.

David Bowie’s pal recalls poignant last meeting with ‘modest’ music icon

Music PR Alan Edwards was welcomed on Loose Women this Friday as he spoke about his close bond with David Bowie and revealed the star had performed some good deeds.

His work is considered a monument in music history but according to Alan Edwards, David Bowie also had a string of kind acts he could have been proud of.

The music mogul chatted to the Loose Women panel this Friday, June 7, as he promoted his new book I Was There: Dispatches from a Life in Rock and Roll, a memoir in which he recalls his biggest career moments.

Although some ITV viewers took to X to point they had “no idea” who Alan was his stellar list of clients includes names fans have definitely encountered in the past as he has worked for the likes of the Rolling Stones, the Spice Girls, Blondie, Prince, Britney Spears, Robbie Williams, David Beckham, Naomi Campbell and even Amy Winehouse.

But by cosying up to some of the world’s biggest stars, Alan was able to notice moments admirers had no way of knowing about as he told Kaye Adams all about his last moments with David Bowie.

Alan, the founder and CEO of public relations firm The Outside Organisation, recalled how he and the Starman hitmaker shared an outing before eventually parting ways.

“In the street, he gave me a hug”, Alan remembered, “and it was really nice but I didn’t realise how he really was.” The devastating news of David Bowie’s death, which took place on January 10 (two days after his 61st birthday) 2016, was shared a month after the pals last saw one another.

Looking back on their last encounter, Alan admitted he realised what the embrace really mean: “he was consciously saying goodbye to me.”

After claiming his famous friend was “very self-effacing, very modest”, Alan recalled how David Bowie had an obliging streak as he remembered a time the late hitmaker had taken care of him and his co-workers.

David would casually make his way to Alan’s office on Tottenham Court Road, with Alan remembering: “he’d sometimes just rock up, no body guards.” Once on location, “he’d come up in the office some days and he’d make tea and coffee for everyone. That’s what kind of a man he was.”

The star’s guitarist made similar revelations, relayed by The Daily Mirror. Earl Slick exposed David Bowie’s sweet tooth and penchant for espresso coffee in his later years, after fighting off his addictions. Earl and David worked together for the singer’s 25th studio album, The Next Day.

ITV Loose Women’s Frankie Bridge hits back as trolls slam ‘offensive’ Valentine’s Day dress

Loose Women star Frankie Bridge hit back at trolls during Thursday’s installment of the ITV show after they slammed her ‘offensive’ Valentine’s Day dress on Wednesday night

Frankie Bridge was forced to hit back at trolls on Thursday’s Loose Women after her Valentine’s Day dress was slammed for being ‘offensive’.

The Saturdays star, 35, wore a jaw-dropping red cut-out dress on Wednesday and she shared the outfit to her Instagram, writing: “We’re not really ones to celebrate valentines, but how can I stay home when I’ve got this amazing @christopher_esber dress from @byrotation #gifted.”

On Thursday’s Loose Women, Frankie’s co-stars complimented the ensemble and how incredible she looked. However, this prompted Frankie to reveal she had been trolled for the daring dress. Talking about the outfit, Frankie quipped: “How dare I!”, adding: “It came with mixed reviews!

She continued: “I just thought it’s really funny in 2024 that other women would say to other women it was inappropriate or that as a mum I should not be wearing something like that or that it was offensive to my husband!” To which Nadia Sawalha quipped: “I doubt very much your husband was offended!” with Frankie revealing husband Wayne Bridge’s reaction, she said: “He was not offended, let me tell you!”

Frankie admitted the criticism was “weird”, saying: “I just thought it was a cool dress, I didn’t really give it any other thought other than that. The top is really rigid, nothing is going anywhere, I’ve had a lot more out in the past!” She added: “It’s fashion, it’s there to have fun and feel good in it, it was Valentine’s Day, why not!”

Despite some trolls criticising the dress, the majority of Frankie’s 1.6 million followers and celebrity pals went wild for the ensemble. Michelle Keegan wrote: “Wow!” with heart eyes while Katie Piper put a series of fire emojis. Frankie’s husband Wayne, who she married in 2014, even commented, cheekily writing: “Oi oi.”

Elsewhere, one fan said: “Why do people think she gives a s**t if you like the dress! She looks amazing in it! I’d wear it to go to Asda if I had her figure!” while another added: “If you have nothing nice to say just say nothing at all!!! BE KIND!! @frankiebridge you look stunning.”

  • Duchess Sophie’s ‘gentle’ dig at Oprah and Meghan Markle

Duchess Sophie’s ‘gentle’ dig at Oprah after explosive Meghan Markle interview

Sophie hit out at the bombshell TV special in her own very understated way – whilst still managing to navigate royal protocol.

Duchess of Edinburgh Sophie took a subtle swipe at Oprah

The Royal Family motto is never complain, never explain.

So it’s little wonder that frontline royals made little comment on Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s infamous interview with Oprah Winfrey, which aired in 2021.

But the American TV special was littered with allegations which took aim at the Firm, with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex claiming they’d not been supported as they struggled with their mental health.

Harry also claimed his brother Prince William and King Charles were “trapped” inside the monarchy – and seemed to criticise his father’s parenting in subsequent interviews.

Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh and Prince Edward’s wife, made her own subtle dig at the Sussexes’ appearance on the TV show in a very understated way.

Sophie said that there was no reason people who don't watch chat shows should know who Oprah is

Sophie and Edward joked by claiming “Oprah who?” when asked whether they had sat down and watched the Sussexes’ CBS chat.

Sophie then added: “Yes, what interview?”

This was followed up when Sophie then admitted there was “no reason to know who” the US chat show legend was.

She was criticised at the time by some on social media as the 59-year-old visited the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls in 2013.

Sophie visited the course and its students in Meyerton, South Africa, as part of a week-long visit to the country with her husband Edward.

    Trending

Sophie’s remark came up after the couple were quizzed about a moment when Justin Welby, the Archbishop of Canterbury, had a long conversation with Oprah – but was unaware of who she was during their chat.

Speaking to the Telegraph, Sophie defended the Archbishop, adding: “You know, if you’re not into chat shows, there’s no reason why you should know who she is.

“Certainly not in this country, anyway.”

During the same interview, Sophie discussed Harry’s return to the UK following the death of his grandfather Prince Philip, so he could attend the funeral.

But Sophie said it was “nice” to see the Duke of Sussex and the pair had a “lengthy chat” upon his return.

It appears that relations between the brothers are as frosty as ever – snubbing an opportunity to put on a united front.

The pair attended the Diana Legacy Award event to pay tribute to their late mother – but the Duke of Sussex joined remotely from Montecito in California while the Prince of Wales delivered a speech in person to mark the charity’s 25th anniversary.

Loose Women’s Denise Welch battling debilitating condition leaving her ‘screaming like wounded animal’

Denise Welch’s partner had to get involved to help her when a recent health scare had her screaming like a wounded animal as she battled the pain of vertigo

Denise Welch was left “screaming like a wounded animal” after a recent health scare.

The Loose Women star has opened up about her battle with vertigo, explaining how the “debilitating” condition affects her day to day life. Whilst her symptoms have eased as of late, Denise recalled how the illness left her struggling.

Speaking on the show today, she said: “I’ve had it for about 15 years. My sister has it. They say it’s not hereditary, but she has it too. It feels like you are falling off the edge of something. So my normal vertigo would be that if I’m walking around, normally 90% of the time, I’ll be okay. But when I lie down at night, I go 1, 2, 3, 4, spin and it’s like a rollercoaster.

“It’s like when you used to get drunk, but without the fun getting there. That’s what it is. And then if I’d wake up in the night to go to the loo, I’d have to sit on the edge of the bed and hold the bed and it’s absolutely miserable.”

Denise went on to explain how vertigo affected her during a recent trip to New York.

“And last year in New York, I went to the airport early so that I could find some seats and lie down, it was so bad. It’s really, really debilitating. Anyway, I went to an ENT guy who sent me – this is after years of trying to get it done properly – went to an audiologist, check my hearing and said that was fine. And then it sounds pretty brutal, but we established it was mainly my right side.”

She added: “So Lincoln was with me. And he laid me down on the bed and he said, I’m going to put you backwards to the left, which he did, which was horrible, but not so bad. Then he sat me up and put me down to to to the right – they threw me backwards. First time, threw me backwards with my head to the left, then with my head to the right. Lincoln said I sounded like an a wounded animal.”

Denise ended up missing her stint on the show as she was so poorly, but since that meeting, she hasn’t got vertigo again. However, she did warn others to consult with their doctor before attempting something similar.

Speaking about that day, and her recovery since, she shared: “I was meant to be coming to get the train to come down to work that night. And I had to phone Ashley, our producer, and put Lincoln on. I was vomiting. I had to take the rest of the week off work. But then on the Friday, I woke up and it had gone. This is three months ago and I haven’t spun once.”

  • Iconic comedy series set for huge global return 18 years after BBC axe

Iconic comedy series set for huge global return 18 years after BBC axe

An iconic BBC comedy series has been re-commissioned and is set to make a global comeback 18 years after it was last on screen but the upcoming reboot comes with a twist

BBC comedy show The Kumars is set to make a global comeback after 18 years.

The show, which won the hearts of many viewers across the UK, has been commissioned by US network Fox and filming is due to take place in March. However, the current title has been changed to Meet The Kumars and the pilot will be filmed in March 13 at BBC Elstree Studios.

According to TV website Deadline the original cast including Sanjeev Bhaskar, Meera Syal and Vincent Ebrahim will reprise their roles but will also be joined by a new cast member, Shaheen Khan, who will play Rani, Sandjeev’s new stepmother. The description on the website read: “We all remember the Kumars and their only son Sanjeev’s dreams of being a famous chat show host. How his obliging parents bulldozed the garden at their modest family home to build him a TV studio and make his dreams come true, whilst also (along with his unconventional grandmother) insisting on embarrassing him in front of every guest.”

It added: “Yet over the years, the great and the good from the worlds of stage, screen and sport flocked to be on The Kumars’ show. And now, the mischievous family has returned! A little older, more experienced but none the wiser.” Those keen on being part of a live audience will be at the studios from 7pm until 9.45pm.

The comedy ran for seven series until 2006 from 2001 and won two international Emmy Awards in 2002 and 2003. Six years later, the show made a comeback and at that time the title changed from The Kumars at No.42 to simply The Kumars. In the second wave of the show, it showed the characters had moved out of their home into a flat in Hounslow.

Speaking about the show, Sanjeev said: “It’s incredibly exciting to revisit these warm, oddball characters and to be given the opportunity to bring them up to date. We’ve tried to retain what viewers loved about the original show and to inject new characters and elements in a slightly new format that we hope will appeal to an even broader audience.”

The show has been able to attract a host of high profile names including Jerry Hall, Amanda Holden, Michael Parkinson and Charlotte Church. In 2013, Hollywood star Hugh Jackman also made an appearance. And speaking about his appearance at that time Sanjeev said: “We’ve got these sketches that we do in the show now. Hugh Jackman has done one for us. Zoe Wanamaker’s done one for us as well.”

He added: “I asked him if he would do me a huge favour and shoot something. In the end he rather kindly, between filming scenes, came away and did a couple of things for us. So he’s a great guy.” But this is not the only thing Sanjeev is known for, he has also starred in the crime drama Unforgotten, which was dubbed the new Broadchurch. But when he appeared on Loose Women he told the panel that he filmed two different endings of the show – and was kept in the dark by the producer.

He revealed: “They filmed another shot at the end, and when I was doing ADR, which is a fancy way to say voiceover, I asked which one they’d used for that shot and the producer said ‘I’m not telling you’ so I don’t know.” Talking about the beginning of the six-part drama he continued: “In the first episode as we embark on this, there are questions that are thrown up, should we be investigating an old case and the limited resources. But at the end of the first episode we find a diary which leads us to these people of interest that carries through the rest of the series.”

Meghan Markle: ‘Huge problems looming’ for Duchess of Sussex says Lady Colin

MEGHAN MARKLE is a topic of conversation in Lady Colin Campbell’s new book which sees the royal biographer and TV personality open up on the “huge problems” that are looming for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex

Lady Colin Campbell, 70, spoke on the inspiration behind her latest book Meghan and Harry: The Real Story in an exclusive interview with Express.co.uk. The British aristocrat “knew” she wanted to publish a book on the Sussex couple because there are “huge problems looming” and there is a “great story to be told”.

Lady Colin explained: “It is history in the making, and when I started the book last year I knew huge problems were looming with them.

“Through my royal friends and my palace connections. I knew there were huge problems with them.” (sic).

She further alleged that Meghan knew for a long time that she wanted to split her time between the UK and Los Angeles.

The TV personality continued: “Meghan wanted to live between California and Britain and [she] was already setting up commercial enterprises which were strictly forbidden for royalty.

“So I knew that huge problems were looming and that there was a great story to be told.”

In order to create her book, Lady Colin met with a variety of sources, including members of the “Markle family”, who she hosted at her Castle Goring estate.

She revealed: “I have spoken to people who have known her all her life. I had members of the Markle family to stay at this castle.”

Stylist who worked with royal children claims: Kate Middleton and Prince William have a life like “going through hell” while in the royal family

Kate Middleton and Prince William “going through hell”, claims stylist who worked with royal children

Kate Middleton and Prince William are struggling amidst the former’s battle with cancer, with a clothing designer who has styled the couple’s children going so far as to describe how they’re “going through hell”.

The Princess of Wales bravely revealed her cancer diagnosis to the public on March 22, following two months of speculation and conjecture as to her whereabouts and well being.

At the time of the shock announcement, few details were offered as to the specifics of her condition. The type of cancer she has remains unknown, for example, as does the stage she is in.

In truth, the general public haven’t been given much to go on of late to quell their natural curiosity as to how Kate might be getting on. While King Charles has been seen out and about as he undergoes treatment for his own cancer, Kate has been recovering well away from the flashing of cameras since the video in which she confirmed for the world that she was ill.

“I wanted to take this opportunity to say thank you, personally, for all the wonderful messages of support and for your understanding whilst I have been recovering from surgery,” Middleton said in the March clip.

“It has been an incredibly tough couple of months for our entire family, but I’ve had a fantastic medical team who have taken great care of me, for which I am so grateful.”

“This, of course, came as a huge shock, and William and I have been doing everything we can to process and manage this privately for the sake of our young family,” Middleton said.

“As you can imagine, this has taken time. It has taken me time to recover from major surgery in order to start my treatment. But, most importantly, it has taken us time to explain everything to George, Charlotte and Louis in a way that is appropriate for them, and to reassure them that I am going to be OK.”
