Morbid item Kate Middleton must always pack in her suitcase when she leaves the UK

The Princess of Wales, Kate Middleton, has carried out a number of overseas tours since joining the Royal Family – but every time she packs her case she has to make sure she’s prepared for the worst

Kate, the Princess of Wales, is a bona fide style queen. Whatever she wears sells out in a matter of hours, and she has had a marked impact on fashion sales – dubbed ‘the Kate effect’.

Her outfit choices on tours garner a great deal of attention, and Kate is known to put a great deal of thought into her choice of clothing – often paying homage to her host nation through colour or championing designers from the local region.

But there is one outfit that the Princess must always pack in her suitcase – but hopefully never have to use. Royal protocol dictates that members of the Royal Family must take a black outfit with them when going on a royal tour, in the unfortunate event that someone passes away when they’re abroad.

Members of the Royal Family are all expected to wear black when mourning as a mark of respect. The most recent example of this rule coming into effect was back in 1992 when Princess Diana’s father, Lord Spencer, passed away. At the time, she was away on a skiing holiday with the then-Prince Charles. They quickly returned to the UK, and were photographed both dressed in all-black attire.

Famously, the late Queen Elizabeth II was in Kenya on a safari with Prince Philip when her own father, King George VI, died in 1952. The then-Princess, just 25 at the time, was without a mourning dress and as a result, she wasn’t allowed to be photographed until a suitable outfit had been brought to her.

The death of the Queen in September 2022 saw a number of protocols come into effect, with the new King Charles declaring a period of royal mourning until seven days after the Queen’s Funeral, which took place on 19 September, 11 days after she passed away at the age of 96 at Balmoral on 8 September.

Royal mourning must be observed by members of the Royal Family, Royal Household staff and Representatives of the Royal Household on official duties, together with troops committed to Ceremonial Duties.

Flags at royal residences also flew at half-mast and remained so until 0800hrs on the morning after the final day of Royal Mourning. A royal salute was also fired out in Hyde Park by The King’s Troop Royal Horse Artillery and at the Tower of London by the Honourable Artillery Company. One round was fired for each year of the Queen’s life.

Prince William was right to warn Prince Harry about his “whirlwind romance” with Meghan Markle, a royal expert has claimed.

Prince William was right to warn Prince Harry about his whirlwind romance with Meghan Markle, a royal expert has claimed. Prince Harry penned in his bombshell memoir, Spare, that William warned him not to propose out of fear the couple’s relationship was moving too fast.

Former BBC royal correspondent, Jennie Bond told the Sun: “He was correct to guide or warn Harry ‘are you sure you’re not going a bit fast’. I think it came from a good place.”

The royal commentator explains the long marriages that have “survived” within the Royal Family so far have had a long courtship, such as with Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh and Prince Edward. She said: “That is one of the most delightfully happy marriages in the Royal Family.”

Harry and Meghan’s courtship was also compared with the slow-burn romance of Prince William and Kate. Speaking on the Sun’s Royal Exclusive show, Jennie added: “Kate was given ten years to peer into the goldfish bowl of royal life.”

Despite his brother’s cautions, Harry proposed to Meghan in 2019, just over a year into their long-distance relationship. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s extravagant Royal Wedding took place at St George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle on May 19, 2018, with a reception hosted by the now-King at Frogmore House. In the memoir, Harry explained how the arrangements for his wedding also drove a wedge between his relationship with his brother

Prince Harry and Meghan’s ‘sideshow’ slammed amid claims celebrities are avoiding them

Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan’s A-list friends are “dropping like flies” as celebrities avoid them. Those are the new claims from Paul Burrell, who worked as the former butler to Princess Diana.

He has has opened up on how he feels about the controversy surrounding the Sussexes. It’s been reported that George Clooney and his wife Amal, along with Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom, have turned down recent invites from the pair.

Meghan Markle was left red-faced after it was revealed that her American Riviera Orchard brand name is being used for a very different brand of adult colouring books.

Meghan Markle has been caught in a blunder as it turns out her lifestyle brand name, American Riviera Orchard, is already being used by another company to hawk adult colouring books online.

The Duchess of Sussex, who unveiled her new business endeavour in March, aimed to launch a line featuring preserves, jams, nut butter, homeware, home fragrances, pet products, and cookware.

However, The Independent reports that an enigmatic seller in the US has set up a Shopify page offering colouring books for adults, including one titled “Working Class Royalty”, with prices ranging from £8 to £16. Currently, one of the colouring books is sold out, and there are also two financial planners on offer, with prices varying based on size.

Celebrity PR guru Jane Owen spoke to The Mirror, slamming Meghan’s team for not being thorough with their “overall brand strategy” and pinpointing this oversight as the cause of the embarrassing mix-up.

“I think this is an embarrassment to the people running her company for sure. They should have been more careful to tie up all uses of the name legally so this could have been avoided,” she said.

Jane continued: “It shows a glaring lack of overall brand strategy which should have encompassed everything and predicted this kind of thing happening and prevented it.

“What I recommend they do is take every legal action to get this person to cease and desist. Then they buy up everything remotely connected to the name and put their marketing and advertising into overdrive to compensate for this and do damage control on the brand name.”

Despite the Shopify page declaring no connection to Meghan’s brand, the website description implies an anti-monarchy stance, suggesting that the name could be being used to protest against the Royal Family.

A blog post on the Shopify page dismisses royal titles as having “no significance” and states their “RoyalWealth ReignTM line was established to recognise and celebrate the working class who are the true heart of our country.”

The US-based brand further stated: “In America, we do not recognize a royal title by someone’s name. In America, we believe ALL are created EQUAL.”

Another post adds: “Americans reject and don’t care about Royal Titles like Prince, Princess and Duchess.”

Prince Harry warned key thing he loves about Meghan Markle ‘for now’ may not stand test of time

Megjson Markle has been described as ‘dominant’ in her marriage to Prince Harry, who has been branded a ‘lost little boy’ alongside his wife, according to a Royal commentator

Prince Harry has been warned one of the key things about Meghan Markle that made him fall in love with his wife may not stand the test of time.

That’s according to a royal expert, who portrayed the Duke of Sussex as “a lost little boy” with Meghan who “compensates for his own weakness”. The expert has analysed their relationship dynamic, cautioning that Meghan’s ‘dominant’ personality may not always be beneficial to their marriage. The pair, married since 2018, stepped back from their Royal duties in 2020 and recently marked their sixth wedding anniversary. They currently reside in Montecito, California, and are parents to two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.

Tom Quinn, a Royal author and expert, told The Mirror : “No one has ever doubted that Harry and Meghan do not have an equal partnership when Harry famously said, ‘what Meghan wants Meghan gets,’ he neatly summed up the situation. Harry has always come across as a lost little boy, overprotected by the Royal family as a child and then suffering the death of his mother he has always seemed unsure and indecisive, always searching for a strong partner who makes up for his own weakness.

“Meghan is very much that partner. She is ambitious, determined and a real fighter – Harry always tries to fight alongside her, but the battling, complaining Harry we see now did not exist before Meghan’s arrival on the scene.

“For now, Harry loves the fact that Meghan gives him some of the backbone he always lacked, but her dominance in the relationship may not always be welcome – what charms us and delights us early on in a relationship doesn’t always stand the test of time.”

This view arrives following the notable nonattendance of the pair at the nuptials of Harry’s close friend, Hugh Grosvenor, the Duke of Westminster, in Chester this week. With Prince William playing a significant role as usher, it is suspected that his brother’s involvement may have contributed to Harry’s decision to bypass the occasion.

As reported by The Times, Harry was indeed on the guest list for Hugh’s union, but after a phone conversation with the groom, decided to maintain distance in what has been termed a “civilised understanding”. This action paved the way for William to fulfil his duties unimpeded at the ceremony where he was spotted entering Chester cathedral via a side entrance on Friday.

Adding further fuel to the speculation, an anonymous source communicated to the New York Post that “Harry actually got a ‘save the date’ card a few months ago but called Hugh and said it would be too awkward if he and Meghan Markle attended, so he made his apologies and Hugh understood.”

  • ‘Guilty’ Linda Robson speaks for first time on marriage split – and plans for future with children

‘Guilty’ Linda Robson speaks for first time on marriage split – and plans for future with children

Speaking for the first time about the split from her husband, Linda, 65, has now ruled out finding love again as she plans to move out of her long-term home into a two-bed house near her children

It’s been an incredibly tough few years for Loose Women’s Linda Robson. First came the breakdown and battle with drinking and OCD that left her on suicide watch.

And now she’s mid-divorce from the man she once called her rock – her husband of 33 years, Mark Dunford. Speaking for the first time about the split, Linda, 65, has now ruled out finding love again as she plans to move out of her long-term home into a two-bed house near her children. But, speaking to OK! magazine, she says it’s not her broken marriage that is haunting her most – it’s her guilt.

Linda, who had a breakdown and ended up in rehab, says: “I gave my family the worst time. I still find it hard to forgive myself for that. I’d always been the ‘strong’ one. Suddenly, they all had to look after me. I felt so bad for what I’d done to everyone who loved me. My family would come and visit me on Sundays – instead of us all at home having a roast together. It was the worst time of my life, ever.”

To outsiders, the guilt may seem misplaced. The Birds of A Feather star began to spiral in 2018 after a bad reaction to diazepam, prescribed to help her sleep. It led to a nervous breakdown, OCD and heavy boozing before a long road to recovery.

But though back to her “old self”, Linda will never again have the same family – as she has split from Mark, the father of her children Louis, 32, and Bobbie, 28. She says there was nothing dramatic about the split though. They simply grew apart, she says, adding: “People do, sometimes, don’t they? We never had that much in common. I’m very sociable. Mark never enjoyed that side of things.”

What kept them together for so long, she believes, was their children – and she’s quick to point out that Mark has always been “an amazing dad”. “I’ve been sad about it, of course I have,” she says. “But we had two lovely children together. But they’re all grown up, living their own lives now. Now, it’s me and Dolly the dog. [But] I’m in a really good place. Work’s good.”

Linda and Mark are planning to sell the period home they shared in Islington, Central London, and Linda is getting a two-bed home nearby, so she can be near the kids. But while she’s officially single again, Linda is not looking for another relationship.

    Linda Robson on OK!
Linda’s full interview and shoot is in this week’s OK! magazine“No, no, no!” she squeals. “I don’t need a man. I’ve got my friends and my family. I’m not interested in dating, I’m too old now. I can’t be bothered with all that ‘jiggy jiggy’.” Speaking of which, Linda’s mischievous actress pal Denise Welch bought her a vibrator last year, having realised her friend had never owned one. “I was like, what the hell do I do with this?,” she says. “What if the kids find it?! So I ended up giving that away!”

Linda is sharing her new beginning in her memoir Truth Be Told: Tales from a Baggy Mouth, which was an emotional but therapeutic experience to write. In it, Linda charts her fascinating life, from growing up in a working-class family in Islington to becoming one of Britain’s most adored TV stars.

She also reveals she has only been in love twice, first with boyfriend Tony Tyler, with whom she had daughter Lauren, then Mark. She has come a long way from her darkest days when, as she admits in the book, she “didn’t feel like she could carry on”. “It’s true,” she nods. “But I’m still here.”

Linda adds: “If anyone had told me I’d have a nervous breakdown, I’d have gone, ‘Me? Are you mad?!’ I’ve learned a lot about mental health. I never thought about it before what happened to me. I think a lot about it now. I’m just so relieved to be back to my old self.”

Two weeks ago, her kids and grandchildren took her out to mark four years since returning to Loose Women alongside co-stars such as Jane Moore, Nadia Sawalha and Kelly Holmes.

Linda’s struggle began in January 2017 when she quit her nightly bottle of wine after an item on Loose Women.

Going cold turkey meant she had to up her sleeping pills to sleep, only for the doctor to switch them to diazepam, which caused a bad reaction and sparked her downward spiral.

Her OCD spiralled out of control. She was having five baths a day, had to change the bed and empty the bin continuously, had to carry a toothbrush everywhere and had to keep her phone at exactly 100% .

  • Prince Harry will have to ‘apologise to Camilla to earn King Charles’ forgiveness’

Prince Harry will have to ‘apologise to Camilla to earn King Charles’ forgiveness’

Royal insider Ingrid Seward appeared on ITV’s Loose Women where she insisted that Prince Harry will have to ask for forgiveness in order to mend his relationship with King Charles

A Royal family expert and insider has said that Prince Harry will have to apologise to Queen Camilla in order to receive his Father’s forgiveness.

Appearing on Tuesday’s instalment of Loose Women, Royal insider Ingrid Seward shared her thoughts on Prince Harry’s complicated relationship with his father, King Charles, who has sadly been diagnosed with cancer.

Speaking on the panel this afternoon, Ingrid told Loose Women star Coleen Nolan that she thinks the King would ‘certainly like for there to be a reconciliation’ with his son who recently flew back to the UK to be by his father’s side after learning about his cancer battle.

However, Ingrid suggested that in order for them to fully mend their relationship, Prince Harry will have to issue a grovelling apology to King Charles’ wife following the revelations he made about her in his memoir titled Spare.

In Harry’s controversial book, he alleged Camilla, 76, had leaked stories about the Royal family to the media in a drive to transform her image. “I have complex feelings about gaining a step-parent who I thought had recently sacrificed me on her personal PR altar,” he penned.

Sharing her thoughts on Prince Harry and King Charles’ increasingly complicated relationship as father and son, ingrid said: “I think Harry’s father would like there to be some reconciliation, but I think that in order for that to happen, Harry has to apologise to his step-mother. He has to apologise to Camilla once and for all.

“She’s the sort of woman that wouldn’t want to ask for it, but I think an apology might really be necessary at this stage,” she added.

After Harry’s fleeting visit to the UK, where he is believed to have spent 30 minutes with his father before flying back to his wife Meghan Markle in the US, the Royal expert believes that Camilla was the driving force behind getting Harry back on British soil.

“I do believe she would have been the one to invite him back to spend time with his father,” she suggested. “People must understand that Harry has his own commitments but made it his priority to be with his ill father.”

The announcement, which revealed that King Charles III has been diagnosed with cancer, has come as a shock to many in Britain, largely because the 75-year-old monarch has generally enjoyed good health through the years.

Palace officials have not specified what kind of cancer the King has, or how serious his condition is. It was only announced that the mass was discovered during the King’s recent hospital treatment for an enlarged prostate, but the type of cancer he has is not prostate cancer.

Charles — who came to the throne after his mother Queen Elizabeth II died in September 2022 — has started a schedule of regular treatments and will postpone public-facing duties

On Wednesday’s Loose Women, Olivia’s co-stars grilled Bradley about the comment, who insisted the remark was made as a “tongue in cheek joke”, he said: “At least I’m being honest!

“You know what, the first time I met Liv, obviously I think you’ve got to have some sort of attraction to speak to that person. So I’m guessing if I didn’t find her attractive then we might not have had that first conversation to actually meet, I think that’s what I meant by saying that.”

Olivia and Bradley got married in 2023 after first meeting years ago. The two had dated before splitting, where Olivia went on Love Island in 2017, and rekindled their romance after the star’s time in the villa.

Bradley admitted when Olivia went on Love Island after their split: “I was gutted, absolutely gutted!” while Olivia admitted she needed to “spread her wings” after their breakup.

Bradley added: “I tried to stop her from going, I was there the night before she left!” and revealed that he called her after she appeared on the show, with Olivia, who didn’t have his number saved, “really surprised” to hear from him.

Since rekindling their romance, the couple have gone from strength-to-strength with the duo getting married last year in a romantic London ceremony. Bradley said there are loads of things that made him realise Olivia was “the one” and her sense of humour is what first attracted him.

She continued: “I just thought it’s really funny in 2024 that other women would say to other women it was inappropriate or that as a mum I should not be wearing something like that or that it was offensive to my husband!” To which Nadia Sawalha quipped: “I doubt very much your husband was offended!” with Frankie revealing husband Wayne Bridge’s reaction, she said: “He was not offended, let me tell you!”

Frankie admitted the criticism was “weird”, saying: “I just thought it was a cool dress, I didn’t really give it any other thought other than that. The Loose Women presenter, 43, took to social media on Monday to share some before-and-after pictures with her fans, highlighting how her makeup artist is covering some marks around her eyes before appearing on TV as she waits to see a medical specialist regarding the reaction

“Before the “ewww what’s wrong with her eyes!!” messages start flooding my inbox after @loosewomen , I’ve had an allergic reaction to something (and have had for months now) but it’s pretty bad this morning. Could barely open my eyes at 3am,” Charlene wrote as she captioned the snaps on Instagram ahead of appearing on the ITV show today.

She continued: “But huge thank-you to Loose make-up’s @francescajordan for doing a stellar camouflage job and covering it up. Charlene’s post concerned some of her fans, with one Instagram user commenting: “Your resilience to still go into work is commendable but please take the time off and rest your eyes.” Another added: “Oh you poor love. I hope your specialist has you back to your glowing self soon xx.”

Former Sugababe Heidi Range told the journalist: “Oh Charlene, poor you. I hope it’s not painful and that you get to the bottom of it soon.” Tanya Moodie shared with Charlene: “Poor woman! So I completely empathise. I hope your specialist can identify the culprit, and I hope you can get some rest. Hard with little ones plus work, I know.”

Charlene’s health update follows the broadcaster weighing in on the future of Loose Women following a string of stars quitting over a row regarding new contracts. Despite major personalities such as Lady Penny Lancaster, Ayda Field, and Carol McGiffin leaving the show in recent times, Charlene maintains optimism for its future.

Persistent whispers of tension between panelists have been circulating, most notably involving Nadia Sawalha and Coleen Nolan. However, Charlene defended the show amid these rumours. Speaking to Women’s Own, she said: “I’ve been there three years now, and I’ve loved it.” She also expressed excitement at welcoming new panelists from Love Island, Olivia Attwood and model Christine McGuinness.

Charlene is also thrilled that her new friend, Coronation Street actress Sue Cleaver, has joined the rotating panel of Loose Women. The two became close when they both appeared on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! in 2022. Charlene even takes credit for bringing Sue, who’s 60, into the Loose Women team. She shared: “When we came out of the jungle a year ago, I said to Sue, ‘I think you will fly if you join our Loose Women panel,’ and look at her now. She’s on tomorrow as a panellist and she fills in every now and then, which is incredible.”
