Taylor Swift’s boyfriend, Travis Kelce, did not bow to the Prince of Wales during their meeting backstage following the superstar’s concert in London, and there’s a reason for it.

The NFL star mingled with British royalty last Friday when the heir to the throne, who was celebrating his 42nd birthday, attended the gig at Wembley Stadium, joined by his two eldest children, Prince George, 10, and Princess Charlotte, nine.

William and his children met with the singer, her boyfriend, as well as his brother, Jason Kelce, backstage, after the show had finished and even took selfies to mark the occasion which went viral on social media.

According to Travis, the group did not have to follow royal protocol and bow to the royals.

While there are no obligatory codes of behaviour when meeting the monarch or a member of the Royal Family, many people wish to observe the traditional forms, according to the royal website. For men, this is a neck bow, whilst women do a small curtsy.

Talking on their podcast, New Heights with Jason and Travis Kelce, Travis said: “Obviously we’re backstage meeting him, he was there with little George and Charlotte. They were an absolute delight to meet. Wasn’t sure if I was supposed to bow to them, curtsy, be an American idiot and shake their hand.”

Then his brother, Jason, added: “They specified that because we were not at an official royal event, we didn’t need to bow or curtsy. But I did still address him as Your Royal Highness, and I’ve never felt emasculated, and I did. That was the closest I’ve ever been.”

Travis then said: “I’ve never seen you give someone that much respect, you put your beer like 10 feet away from you.”

Meanwhile, Jason talked about how Charlotte made the biggest impression on him, explaining: “I gotta say, Prince William was fantastic when I met him, but the highlight was Princess Charlotte.

The book also claims Meghan’s friendship with Victoria started withering in 2017 over leaks to the press.

Mr Bower alleges that when Meghan met David Beckham’s wife, they initially became good friends – with the Spice Girl even offering beauty advice to Meghan, who was then the Duke’s fiance.

Richard Eden drew comparisons between the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s attempts to woo new celebrity friendship and Prince William’s easy relationship with big names such as American pop star Taylor Swift.

A selfie shared by the Shake It Off singer has amassed thousands of likes across social media platforms while a video of William dancing went viral. The Daily Mail’s Diary Editor Richard Eden says it is a sharp contrast to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex celebrity interactions.

Speaking on the Palace Confidential podcast, Eden said: “It’s a very different relationship because essentially Taylor Swift’s here and she wants to you know show her respect for the royal family and in a way you could say paying court to Prince William whereas with Harry and Megan I think it’s the other way around.

Meanwhile, in his interview with the Daily Mail, Meghan Markle’s dad insisted he is not looking for sympathy following his fall-out with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex in 2018.

Thomas said: “When you look at what Harry and Meghan have done since, like accusing the Royal Family of racism, it’s far worse than anything I’ve done. I don’t want pity and I don’t want this episode to define my life. I don’t want to be a footnote in history.”

Thomas went on to describe how he was “vulnerable” when all the drama began with Harry and Meghan. He famously missed giving Meghan away at her wedding after he suffered two heart attacks prior to the nuptials, meaning that Charles ended up walking her down the aisle instead of him.

As Thomas Markle’s milestone birthday approaches, he is hoping his daughter will rekindle a relationship. He said: “I’ve never been one for birthdays, but I know the one person I most want to hear from, Meghan, won’t be in touch. Meghan told of her hurt at Samantha’s “lies”. She wrote: “You fixated and clicked on the lies they were writing about me, especially those manufactured by your other daughter, who I barely know. You watched me silently suffer at the hand of her vicious lies. I crumbled inside.”
