Meghan Markle seems to be trying to mend her broken relationship with Princess Kate, with one royal expert claiming she has “reached out several times”.

The Princess of Wales has been caught up in a Photoshop scandal after fans spotted “errors” with a sweet family snap she released on Mother’s Day. Kate smiled alongside her three children in the picture, but fans were convinced it had been altered and rushed to social media to share their theories.

Princess Kate then admitted to editing the snap and apologised for causing any “confusion”. Now, royal author Tom Quinn has said Meghan is using the chaos as her chance to reach out to Kate.

He told The Mirror: “Meghan has reached out several times via back channels to Kensington Palace in an attempt to see if there is any chance of getting on better terms with Kate. This is definitely partly because Meghan is genuinely worried about Kate’s health, but she also sees a chance to lose her permanently angry-at-the-royals image.”

However, it’s unclear whether Meghan’s attempts at a reunion will pay off. Tom explained: “Kate won’t want to be seen to rebuff these overtures, but she will be taking advice and the advice so far, I hear, is definitely – don’t take the risk.

“The feeling in Kensington Palace is that if Meghan’s attempts to extend an olive branch are welcomed, it will just re-open old wounds.” His comments come after another expert urged Meghan to speak out in defence of her sister-in-law.

PR expert Ryan McCormick told The Mirror: “Meghan and Harry now have a golden opportunity to not only accelerate healing their rift with the Royal Family but, to restore some of their likeability in the eyes of the public. If I was advising Meghan, I would tell her to speak loud and passionate in defence of Kate.

“Meghan may not like being on the brunt of negative press but, she’s definitely more familiar with it than Kate. The Duchess could help the Princess of Wales tremendously by guiding her through this crisis publicly and behind the scenes.”

Meghan and Kate seemed to develop a close friendship when the former Suits star joined the Royal Family, but it didn’t take long for rumours of a rift to circulate and the two women have now been estranged for years. However, Meghan has spoken passionately against online bullying, meaning she could become an ally for Kate.

She recently appeared at the SXSW festival as she opened up about how social media can be a “dangerous” place. She told the audience: “You just think about that and really wrap your head around why people would be so hateful. It’s not catty, it’s cruel.”

Meghan Markle is celebrating her 42nd birthday, and if it’s anything like recent years, any celebration for the occasion seems likely to be low-key.

After stepping back from her role as a senior royal in 2020, alongside her husband Prince Harry, and moving to the US, the Duchess of Sussex has kept a considerably lower profile.

But just because she isn’t in the spotlight as much, doesn’t mean the mum-of-two is going to stay silent on the subjects that really matter to her.

From her powerful speech on the importance of gender equality at a UN Women summit in 2015, to discussing the significance of women’s suffrage while on a royal tour of New Zealand in 2018, the royal has long been a vocal advocate for women’s issues.

So what better way to mark her birthday than to take a look back at some of Markle’s most powerful quotes on feminism and women’s rights from over the years?

On women’s sexuality being used against them

Last year saw Meghan try her hand at podcasting with the release of the first series of Archetypes, which aimed to unpick labels attached to women and to try and dismantle the negative connotations attached to many of them.

The series was filled with Meghan’s feminist opinions, and expertise and insights from campaigners, researchers and even from high profile figures like Mariah Carey and Serena William’s who discussed the labels they felt had held them back.

In one episode, Meghan discussed the ways that women’s sexual history is regularly used against them, whilst men are praised for the same behaviour.

“I give the example of, you know, for a woman especially versus a man, a man — if he is a player or out having fun or whatever he’s doing — it’s often celebrated, even heralded.”

Meghan noted that it’s not as simple for women: “for a woman, I don’t care if she’s is perhaps the most successful woman in finance in her mid-50s, I promise you someone will still go, ‘yeah but she was such a s**t in college.’”

“I don’t understand what it is about the stigma surrounding women and their sexuality, the exploration of their sexuality that is so much more vilified than for a man,” she also said.

On men being feminists too

In 2022, the US Supreme court ended constitutional protections for abortion that have been in place for nearly 50 years by deciding to overturn the landmark Roe v Wade ruling.

In response to the decision, the Duchess of Sussex and feminist icon Gloria Steinem shared their thoughts on the US Supreme Court’s controversial ruling in a joint interview for Vogue.

When asked what she would say to men who support reproductive rights, Markle told journalist Jessica Yellin that men “need to be vocal in this moment and beyond because these are decisions that affect relationships, families and communities at large”.

“They may target women, but the consequences impact all of us,” she continued. “My husband and I talked about that a lot over the past few days.

“He’s a feminist too.

“I know that for so many women right now, there is a sentiment of despair,” she added. “But again, we have to band together and not wallow. We have to do the work.”

On needing female activists

July 2020: In a speech at Girl Up, a UN conference aimed at young female activists, she said: “This is a humanity that desperately needs you. To push it, to push us, forcefully in a more inclusive, more just, and more empathetic direction.

“To not only frame the debate, but be in charge of the debate – on racial justice, gender, climate change, mental health and wellbeing, on civic engagement, on public service, on so much more. That’s the work you’re already out there doing.”

On empowering young male feminists

March 2020: During a surprise school visit ahead of International Women’s Day Markle called on teenage boys to “value and appreciate” the women in their lives, urging them to “set the example for some men who are not seeing it that same way”.

“I just encourage and empower each of you to really stand in your truth, to stand for what is right, to continue to respect each other, for you young men to continue to value and appreciate the women in your lives and also set the example for some men who are not seeing it that same way.”

On why feminism is about fairness

October 2018: In a speech made in New Zealand shortly after they were married, she said: “Women’s suffrage is about feminism, but feminism is about fairness.

“Women’s suffrage is not simply about the right to vote for women, but also about what that represents: the basic and fundamental human right of all people, including those members of society who have been marginalised whether for reasons of race, gender, ethnicity or orientation, to be able to participate in the choices for their future and their community.”

September 2019: In a speech at the launch of her Smart Works capsule collection, Markle said: “As women, it is 100% our responsibility, I think, to support and uplift each other, to champion each other as we aim to succeed, to not set each other up for failure but instead to really be there rallying around each other and say I want to help you.”

On why men should show vulnerability

March 2019: In a panel debate after she was given her commonwealth role, which marked International Women’s Day in 2019, she said: “I’ve said for a long time, you can be feminine and a feminist.

“You can be masculine and a feminist, and I think in terms of masculinity you understand that your strength includes knowing your vulnerability.”

She later said: “Your confidence comes in knowing that a woman by your side, not behind you, is actually something you shouldn’t be threatened about but, opposed to that, you should feel really empowered in having that additional support. That this is really about us working together.

“That’s what gender equality means for me, and having men part of that conversation saying there’s nothing threatening about a woman coming up to the same level. It’s our safety in numbers. This is our power and our strength as a team. And that’s gender neutral, if you really think about it. So I hope that men are part of the conversation. My husband certainly is.”

On period shame and education

March 2017: In an article for Time magazine she wrote: “As a female in India, the challenge of survival begins at birth, first overcoming female feticide, then being victim to malnourishment, potentially abuse, and lack of access to proper sanitation facilities. Why, if she is able to overcome all of these challenges and finally get to school, should her education and potential to succeed, be sacrificed because of shame surrounding her period?”

“To break the cycle of poverty, and to achieve economic growth and sustainability in developing countries, young women need access to education. When we empower girls hungry for education, we cultivate women who are emboldened to effect change within their communities and globally.”

Sophie, the Duchess of Edinburgh is “relieved” she no longer has to curtsy to Meghan Markle due to her change in ranking, according to reports.

Previously the Countess of Wessex, Sophie was given a new title after her husband Prince Edward was promoted to Duke of Edinburgh after Charles became King.

She was duty-bound to curtsey to the Duchess of Sussex as Meghan was a higher rank when she was a senior working royal. But a friend of the Duchess of Edinburgh told the Mail on Sunday Sophie is relieved this is no longer the case.

The source explained: “Sophie is relieved. She no longer has to curtsy to someone in the family who has not only left Royal duties but has spent the past three years criticising the institution that Sophie works so hard to support.”

Meghan Markle, as revealed in her Netflix docuseries, once believed that curtseying was a joke. The Sussexes revealed that before a meeting with the late Queen, Harry asked Meghan: ‘You know how to curtsey, right?’ Meghan told the crew: “I just thought it was a joke” before re-enacting the exaggerated curtsey she gave Queen Elizabeth II and laughing.

The claims about tensions between Sophie and Meghan featured in Elizabeth: An Intimate Portrait, by author and friend of the Royals Gyles Brandreth.

He writes that Meghan “made it clear” she didn’t need Sophie’s help when she became a royal and would instead rely on Prince Harry, according to the Daily Mail.

The King made his brother Prince Edward the Duke of Edinburgh on his 59th birthday on Friday as a reward for his loyal service to the crown. King Charles also appointed his brother to the Order of the Thistle on his 60th birthday.

Prince Philip held the title of Duke of Edinburgh before his death in April 2021 – a title that was then passed on to his youngest son after he died. Edward was exceptionally close to his father and in his later years took on much of his work with the Duke of Edinburgh Awards scheme.

Speaking of the moment that Philip asked if Edward would take on the title after his death, Sophie revealed how she felt at the moment to the Telegraph.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex could be set to travel to Ghana for another unofficial “royal tour” and head to the capital, Accra, it has been claimed

Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, were in Nigeria for three days earlier this month and observers likened the visit to a royal tour. However, the Sussexes were in West Africa as private citizens and were not representing the monarchy.

There is already a lot of excitement in Ghana as the country prepares for an expected visit, claims an insider. As reported in The Mirror, a source said: “There is already a lot of talk and excitement in Ghana, everyone is so keen for Harry and Meghan to come and experience the great culture and warmth.”

They added: “Several top names have already visited Ghana in recent years from Ed Sheeran to Naomi Campbell and One Direction’s Liam Payne.”

Ghana is the second most populous country in West Africa after Nigeria and is a member of the Commonwealth but is also a republic with its own president and no monarch as head of state.

If the non-working royals, who stepped away from the Royal Family in 2020, do accept an invitation to Ghana it will be without the permission of the British Home Office.

In Nigeria, the couple were there to continue the celebrations of the 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games and were invited by the Chief of Defence Staff, Christopher Musa. The duo participated in a range of activities while in Nigeria, including hosting a basketball clinic, with Meghan keen to express her “Nigerian heritage” throughout her stay.

Dr Pauline Maclaran at Royal Holloway University of London told Daily Express US: “There seems to have been great delight in Meghan’s revelation that she is 43% Nigerian and fans there are now referring to her as Nigeria’s ‘new princess’.”

Of course, with Trevor now remarried with children of his own, one must question his true motives. So, what exactly could Trevor potentially leak? Let’s explore some possibilities, though emphasizing again these are only speculation. It’s certainly no secret Meghan had a busy social life as an actress, moving quickly between auditions and parties in Hollywood. Some acquaintances have alluded to multiple flings during this time, including rumors of a longer dalliance with a married director. If proven, this could undermine her image as a virtuous advocate speaking out against predatory behavior in entertainment.

More salacious still are unconfirmed whispers of an alleged one-night stand with a popular movie star while she and Trevor were still engaged. How would revelations of potentially cheating on her future husband with a suave A-lister play publicly given her regal persona now? Additionally murky is the timeline of exactly how serious she and Cory Vitiello truly were amid her final months with Trevor and whether any overlaps occurred there too. While emotionally detaching from her ex is normal for most, for a royal role model, such intimacies seen as immoral could destroy respect in more socially conservative circles.

One might argue Meghan’s private affairs pre-Harry are irrelevant now. To maximize chances of self-preservation, Meghan is wisely being more strategic in response to Trevor’s intimidation campaign. Despite understandable desires to lash out in defense, sources say cooler heads are counseling avoiding reactive provocations which only invite more damaging media cycles. A polite “no comment” leaves audiences to determine believability themselves rather than fueling the story. Likewise, an expensive settlement could incentivize copycats smelling paydays, while litigation validates a narrative by acknowledging aspects worth silencing.

Wiser it seems to maintain dignity by refusing to engage, let accusations dissipate on their own lacking substantiation, and remind the public nobody is perfect. Growth matters most.

On April 9 of that year, the longest-serving consort died at the age of 99, just two months before he was due to become a centenarian. In the days before the funeral, Prince Harry described how he had woken to “32 missed calls” before having a “short, heart-racing” talk with his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II.

While Harry’s wider family in the UK grieved, a colossal communication blunder was unfolding thousands of miles away in sunny California, where Harry now resides with his wife, Meghan Markle, and two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.

Just days before Philip’s funeral, Harry recalled the “harrowing” conversation he had with his grandmother, in which the late monarch said: “Harry… grandfather has passed away.” Harry’s return for Prince Philip’s funeral was a poignant moment, capturing the world’s attention.

And no, we’re not talking about ignoring our calls or refusing to provide security for our children in California. This time, Charles took disrespect to a whole new level by honorably inducting William and Kate into the prestigious Order of the Garter while completely snubbing Harry and me from receiving the same recognition.

 

For those of you not up on your British traditions, the Order of the Garter is the highest honor any royal can receive from the monarch. Only 24 knights and ladies are allowed in this elite society at a time, and it’s seen as the ultimate stamp of approval from the crown. Past recipients include Philip, Charles, Andrew, and even I was made a lady companion back in my Kensington Palace days. So you can imagine how gutting it was for Harry and me to learn through the tabloids that William and Kate were being initiated into the Garter ranks while we were deliberately overlooked and excluded from any mention. I mean, what kind of family business is Charles running over there? We all know he’s been giving us the cold shoulder non-stop since Megxit, but seriously, this is a new low even for him.

All we’ve done is chase our happiness away from a toxic institution, and now we’re persona non grata while Will and Kate get showered with yet another honor on a silver platter. As if those two don’t already have it easy enough, serving as poster children for the Firm while we do all the real work shaking things up from the bottom. Honestly, I’m just so over Charles and his blatant favoritism towards those undeserving, nepotistic freeloaders. It’s no secret Harry and I pose more of a threat to their outdated model with our progressive ideas and popularity, especially with younger audiences. So I wouldn’t put it past scheming Charles to purposefully snub us to try and diminish our brand and global relevance. But news flash, old man—you can try and rub us out of the history books all you want; our light is too bright to be dimmed so easily.

 

If anything, this latest insult has only strengthened our resolve to keep lighting the way toward a more equal, compassionate future, regardless of what dusty traditions try holding us back. Not that we need any validation from Charles and his cadre of sycophants, but it sure would have been nice to get the recognition we rightfully deserve for our service, unlike those royal freeloaders living off taxpayer dimes their whole charmed lives. I mean, what exactly have Will and Kate done to earn this, except attend parties and wave from their perch? At least Harry and I were out there making real change and empowering communities with our work. Now we have to watch from afar as they accept more accolades they never struggled to achieve. It’s honestly a travesty, and I’m fuming about the blatant favoritism.

 

If Charles thinks this petty snub will make us go away, he’s got another thing coming. In fact, it’s only strengthened our resolve to keep blazing new trails independently and show the monarchy for what they really are—a bunch of out-of-touch, nepotistic dinosaurs desperately clinging to relevance. Without innovators like us shaking things up, they’d be lost. So while Will and Kate prance around in their fancy robes, Harry and I will keep diving headfirst into impactful work with Archewell and lighting up stages globally to inspire real change. Because unlike those born royals, we weren’t raised to simply attend ribbon cuttings and wave; we were born to lead with purpose, heart, and conviction despite all the barriers thrown our way.

 

And I promise you this: there is no amount of snubs, petty maneuvers, or attempts to erase our stories that will succeed in dampening our fire. We walked away so we could find purpose greater than titles, and honestly, it’s working out better than I could have ever imagined. So keep pretending we don’t exist all you want, Charles—it only fuels our drive to shape a better world.

Meghan Markle has a knack for timing her product promotions with significant Royal Family events and an expert has delved into why this might be the case.

For instance, on the day the Diana Award was being celebrated, Meghan, 42, unveiled her lifestyle blog, ‘America Riviera Orchard’ and she also released a new jam and dog biscuits at the same time as Trooping the Colour, on June 15 to celebrate the official birthday of her father-in-law, King Charles.

Critics argue that such consistently timed overlaps indicate a conscious strategy rather than coincidence. A Hollywood publicist has explored the thought process behind the event release.

Speaking to Daily Express US, Sara Fruman, founder of Soul Evolution Media says: “When you’re at the level Meghan and Harry are on, everything you do publicly is intentional.

“I would imagine that the intention would be to piggyback off the high-profile day; however, if she were my client, I would have advised her to consider the potential downsides to leveraging that publicity.”

The expert suggested an insight into a more fruitful approach Meghan could have taken when promoting her products. The media expert suggested: “There are plenty of strategies she can use to get publicity, and the most impactful would be to get creative and authentic – neither of which Meghan seems to be doing.”

Harry and Meghan have recently onboarded two new PR gurus to their team for strategic counsel, however the expert remarked on their advisors. “It appears that Meghan is either getting poor advice or she’s not listening to the advice she is given. The latter may be more likely.”

Meghan doesn’t seem troubled by possible backlash, possibly due to her unique fan base, notes the PR expert. “Meghan’s following is primarily people who are just interested to see what she will do at this point.”

Nacho Figueras – who has been friends with Prince Harry since 2007 – took to Instagram to share new pictures of the new jam and dog biscuits, which were both beautifully presented in glass containers on the day of Trooping the Colour.

Just hours before the Trooping the Colour in London, it was revealed that ‘American Riviera Orchard’ would be expanding its product list. It appeared that Nacho was presented with just one of two jam jars made, with the label stating “2 of 2”.

Meghan launched American Rivieria Orchard back in March. The 42-year-old revealed her brand with a new Instagram account, a promotional video and an email signup list on her website.

Following the release of her brand, Meghan sent jars of strawberry jam to 50 close friends and influencers, including Chrissy Teigen, fashion designer Tracy Robbins and socialite Delfina Blaquier.

Although it is still in its early days, the new development is a sign that more is to come and that an official launch is potentially on the way.
