Princess Anne commented that she did not think a ‘slimmed-down’ monarchy was a good idea following Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s departure.

Princess Anne took a swipe at Prince Harry and Meghan Markle when she was interviewed by Adrienne Arsenault last year about plans for a more ‘slimmed-down’ Royal Family.

The Princess Royal did not appear to be in favour of the idea, perhaps understandably so as she has been taking on even more royal duties so far this year.

She said the plan to have fewer working royals had come about when there were “a few more people around to make that seem like a justifiable comment”.

Two of the “few people” she is referring to are likely to be Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, who stepped down as working royals in 2020 and moved to the US.

Another likely candidate is Prince Andrew, who was forced to quit his position after questions emerged surrounding his friendship with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

The loss of Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip in quick succession also had a knock-on effect on the number of working royals, particularly as they kept up with their duties as much as they could even in their nineties.

A number of other working royals, such as the Duke of Kent and Duke of Gloucester, are quite elderly and having to take a step back.

The Princess, who gave her honest opinion on the King having a slimmed-down monarchy, said: “It changes a bit. I mean, it doesn’t sound like a good idea from where I’m standing, I have to say.

“I’m not quite sure what else, you know, we can do.”

Anne was then asked whether there were “conversations about relevance” of the monarchy, to which she replied: “There will be, everywhere. It’s not a conversation that I would necessarily have.

“I think it’s perfectly true that it is a moment where you need to have that discussion. But I would just underline that the monarchy provides, with the constitution, a degree of long-term stability that is actually quite hard to come by any other way.”

When asked about her role now her older brother Charles is King she answered: “We as a family see ourselves there to support that role.

Archie is Harry and Meghan’s elder child, born in London in 2019, and he celebrated his fifth birthday on May 6. Increased attention has been drawn to the prince and his younger sister, Princess Lilibet, since the accession of their grandfather, King Charles III, to the throne in 2022.

The siblings visited Britain with their parents for the first time as a family in the summer of 2022, where they celebrated Queen Elizabeth II’s 70th year on the throne. Since the monarch’s death, Archie is sixth, and Lilibet seventh, in the line of succession to inherit the British throne.

For the majority of the first year of his life, Prince Archie lived in Britain while his parents were still working members of the monarchy, based at their former residence of Frogmore Cottage in the grounds of Windsor Castle.

In the Fall of 2019, when Archie was just four months old, Harry and Meghan embarked on an official royal tour of South Africa on behalf of Queen Elizabeth and the U.K. government. The couple took their infant son with them.

Dressed in an elegant print wrap-dress, Meghan matched Archie in shades of blue, while Harry walked alongside cooing at his son.

The footage has received in excess of 30,000 likes and over 1,000 comments, many of which praised the young prince and his parents.

“The world’s royals👑. They are loved all over the world,” one TikTok user wrote of the family.

“Beautiful baby, he’s so much like Harry, adorable,” posted another, with a further comment reading: “You can feel the love! they such a beautiful family and Arch is in sync with his parents….”

Despite the tour winning Harry and Meghan waves of positive media coverage, Meghan does not remember it fondly, telling Serena Williams in a 2022 podcast discussion that a fire broke out in Archie’s nursery while they were at an event.

The duchess said she felt pressured to carry on with royal duties while she wanted to be with her son, who thankfully wasn’t in the room at the time of the alleged incident.

When Harry and Meghan returned to Britain after the tour in late 2019 they soon left again, traveling to Canada for a family vacation. It was there they later revealed they decided to seek a part-time working arrangement with the monarchy which ultimately led to their split from the institution in 2020 and their move to the U.S.

The Sussex family currently lives in Montecito, California. They have not visited Britain together since 2022.

Only recently on the BBC One soap, Reiss has embarked on another IVF attempt with girlfriend Sonia Fowler after the nurse found out he had been using his comatose wife Debbie’s money to fund the treatment. Sonia’s sister Bianca Jackson uncovered the truth as she tracked Reiss down and found him by Debbie’s bedside in hospital after discovering he had tried to scam Kat Slater and Jay Brown in vain to gather the funds necessary for his other half.

Viewers will recall that Reiss eventually admitted to Sonia what he had been up to and after initial reluctance, the nurse was then convinced by Kathy Beale to give her beau some credit and the couple agreed to give things another shot… with the rest of Debbie’s money in hand. EastEnders viewers have been left wary of Reiss, speculating that Debbie’s coma could have been the result of his own actions.

And in upcoming scenes, things take another worrying turn when a nervous Sonia heads in for her embryo transfer and Reiss takes a call saying Debbie’s care fees are three months overdue, leaving the accountant stressed. Later in the week, Reiss is left even more anxious as he looks at an £18,000 bill for Debbie’s care fees.

Abesi Manyando, author and founder of the public relations and branding development firm Abesi PR, believes Meghan is poised to do “very well” amid an “increase” in her popularity “globally”, since she visited Nigeria alongside Prince Harry in May. She believes Meghan is a “very relevant figure” in the media and that her popularity is “not limited to Britain.”

She explained to the Express: “I think Meghan’s brand will do very well no matter when it’s launched. I do think there is a higher demand for its release since her popularity has increased globally and outside of Britain.

“So launching this year would be great but there’s no rush because she’s a very relevant figure in media. I do not believe there is any significance with timing the launch of her brand based on when the royals are working or not since her popularity is not limited to Britain.”

Mayando then stressed her belief that there is “high anticipation’ for a drop and the demand for her lifestyle brand has increased after her Nigeria trip.” Adding that “whenever she does release her brand of products it’s going to be very successful, especially in the United States.”
