Emmerdale fans have been left fuming after the ITV soap was cancelled in a last minute schedule shake-up.

The serial drama was due to be shown at 8.30pm on Friday (July 5) but was taken off air. However, soap fans will still be able to watch Coronation Street at 9pm.

ITV extended their Evening News programme following the general election and fuming fans have since taken to social media to issue complaints as the tuned into the latest drama at Number 10 rather than Emmerdale village.

Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, one fan penned: “Sick of football messing up the soaps. #Emmerdale taken off last min and it’s not even on ITVX.” Another added: “They have just pulled #Emmerdale ffs.” A third person said: “Why has the schedule just suddenly changed? Now doesn’t show #Emmerdale at half 8?”

It comes after Suni Sharma (Brahmdeo Shannon Raman) and boyfriend Nicky Miligan (Lewis Cope) made a swift exit from the village during Thursday’s (July 5) hour-long episode.

Nicky had been wanting to move away for weeks after learning that mum Ruby Fox-Miligan (Beth Cordingly) was behind the hit and run on the late Ethan Anderson (Emile John).

But Suni wasn’t keen, as he wanted to stay close to half-brother Jai Sharma (Chris Bisson), who was also harbouring a huge secret. Both storylines collided on Thursday, as Jai’s wife Laurel Sharma (Charlotte Bellamy) recovered in hospital after her shocking heart attack.

With the character said to be responding well to treatment, we soon saw Laurel telling Suni the truth – that Jai had conned him out of his inheritance after learning that their father Amit (Anil Goutam) was a murderer.

Suni was outraged, telling Jai that he would never forgive him and adding that Laurel deserved better. Suni immediately packed up his things, telling Nicky that he now hoped to get away with him after all. Nicky was blindsided, having tentatively began to make up with Ruby.

Meanwhile, grieving Charles Anderson (Kevin Mathurin) woke up after spending the night on Caleb Miligan’s (William Ash) sofa, and found some paperwork that incriminated Caleb in the hit and run. Charles drove Caleb out of the village and confronted him, prompting Caleb to cover for wife Ruby by admitting that he was behind the wheel.

Charles wanted revenge, or at the very least some justice for Ethan. But Caleb reminded the vicar that Ethan had died of natural causes, so there was no sense in placing blame for his untimely demise.

Ultimately, Caleb’s insistence at keeping the real truth hidden eventually led Nicky to agree to Suni’s plan, and the couple planned to make a fresh start together, with Nicky making peace with Charles before he left.

Just as Laurel ended her marriage and ordered Jai out of her life, Ruby shared an emotional farewell with Nicky and Suni, while Caleb could only stand back and watch as their son and his partner drove out of their lives.

There are also big tensions between Wil and Uma after it was revealed he wasn’t loyal during his time in the other villa. Tonight, Uma admitted she felt awful about what happened with Wil. She said: “I just feel different, it’s changed things for me, he’s let me down so much,” whilst Matilda said of Sean: “I’m very conflicted right now, he’s been moving mad in Casa.”

Soon after Uma got a text, where she and Matilda were invited to talk with Diamante and Lucy about what happened. She said: “Uma and Matilda, please get ready to leave the villa as Diamanté and Lucy would love a catch up #realtalk #nofilter.”

From Sean and Wil choosing to recouple, it meant that Diamante was one of the people to leave. Asked if she was surprised not to be picked, she said: “I actually was, when Sean was giving his speech he said he was confused, and he was saying he found connections in Casa and as he was saying that I was thinking, ‘are we about to couple up?’ I think he chose the safe option to stick with Matilda. He’s perhaps not as genuine as we all thought he was… With Sean it was very flirty and smiley from the beginning. When I kissed him in the challenge that’s when everything went from 1-100 really quickly.”

Lucy admitted she thought Wil would have chosen her – and she was sad to be departing the villa.

“There was a part of me that thought Wil would have chosen me … maybe he changed his mind at the last minute … I’m sad to be leaving but I had the best time ever, it was the best experience of my life! Being in an environment with new people, it was so fun. I don’t regret anything I did, I went with my heart. I’ve come out feeling positive that I was myself,” she said.

But it’s been called “tone deaf” by movie critics, who say the film is packed with “lazy” stereotypes and is an exploitation of the struggles of the working class.

In Lola, which at the time of writing has a 3.9 rating on IMDB, billionaire heiress Peltz Beckham plays the titular character – a young woman who is trying to save enough money to get her queer little brother out of the toxic family home, where he is bullied by their god-fearing, alcoholic mother.

But realising her drug store job doesn’t earn enough to do so, main character Lola turns to stripping. In a continuation of the theme of tired cliches, she starts taking drugs, before becoming a teenage mum – with one critic suggesting the stereotypes border on “harmful”. The “out of touch” themes involving issues around poverty have lead critics to slate the movie, which was released on February 9.

“Lola doesn’t even deserve the hate-watch indulgence that Madame Web received,” Kady Ruth Ashcraft writes in the Guardian. “Filled to the brim with underbaked, oftentimes harmful tropes – the supportive Black best friend, a queer child meeting an unceremonious death, the virginal stripper saved by motherhood, a hypocritical Christian drunk – the film leaves one wondering what could have been achieved if any of these characters or their storylines were given as much attention as the gaffers paid to the light hitting Peltz Beckham’s cheekbones.”

“Rich people always do this in an attempt to alleviate their privilege and they fail each and every time,” one Twitter (X) user wrote in response to Ashcraft’s review of Lola, with another asking: “Why do they always pick this subject…” A third wrote: “This sounds like a film school thesis.”

While making the film, Nicola had to make the directorial decision to pull her husband Brooklyn’s one and only line, after realising his acting skills weren’t up to her standards. Victoria Beckham had a defiant message for her kids amid reports of David Beckham’s alleged cheating, according to a bombshell new book.

The couple have had a lot of ups and downs in their marriage and have been rocked by reports of David’s rumoured affairs over the years. Cracks started to show in their relationship in 2016 and author Tom Bower has claimed things “deteriorated” two years later in his new book The House of Beckham.

Bower has claimed the couple turned against each other and had each of their publicists “feed negative stories” about the other. One story involved an “extraordinary exchange that occurred during the Beckhams’ summer holidays”.

During the incident, Bower alleges Victoria told her children: “Daddy’s not a cheat.” When David read the report, he’s believed to have been “raged that Victoria and her publicist were waging a media war against him.”

Victoria and David have been open about their marriage struggles. When the couple first got together, David was accused of cheating with another woman while Victoria was on tour and pregnant with her first son, Brooklyn Beckham.

In her 2001 autobiography Learning To Fly, Victoria revealed she punched David when she next saw him. However, she decided to believe David following a trip to Italy to work through their problems.

Five years into their marriage, David was rumoured to have had an affair with his assistant, Rebecca Loos. The former footballer strongly denied any romantic involvement with her.

At the time, he said: “During the past few months I have become accustomed to reading more and more ludicrous stories about my private life. What appeared this morning is just one further example. The simple truth is that I am very happily married. I have a wonderful wife and two very special kids. There is nothing any third party can do to change these facts.”

David addressed the rumours again in his and Victoria’s new Netflix documentary. He said: “There were some horrible stories that were difficult to deal with. It was the first time that me and Victoria had been put under that kind of pressure in our marriage.”

Victoria also admitted it was the “hardest period” for them as a couple. She explained: “It felt like the world was against us. And here’s the thing; we were against each other, if I’m being completely honest.”
