Going into town on Saturday became a family tradition — a girls’ day out we  looked forward to all week.

My mum’s favourite shop was M&S, where she would gaze at jackets with big shoulder pads and floral sundresses, while my nan would make a beeline for John Lewis and their classic coats and elegant court shoes.

I was all over Tammy Girl  and Chelsea Girl, which was later rebranded to high street fave River Island. I would spend hours in the changing rooms, watched   by my two cheerleaders, who gave the thumbs-up — or   down — on what I was trying on.

Frilly ra-ra skirts, duster coats, polka-dot leggings . . .  I tried them all, often making my nan howl with laughter.

Fashion wasn’t so fast back in the 1980s and every item was cherished and worn until it fell apart — literally.

At 18, I went to art college and my tastes became more refined.  Extra cash from a part-time job in a bar meant I could move on to slightly more expensive stores, such as Warehouse, Miss Selfridge and  Topshop. I knew at this point I wanted to work in fashion as the high street had totally seduced me.

It’s not just me that loves the high street — big-name designers are fans, too. When “Cool Britannia” hit  in the Nineties, the brands all turned up in one big store.

Designers at Debenhams  was a stroke of genius by the store’s CEO Belinda Earl, designer Ben de Lisi and fashion director Spencer Hawken, who introduced diffusion ranges from John Rocha, Matthew Williamson and Betty Jackson to name a few.

This meant we could all afford a bit of luxury. Years later, I hosted a night with Debenhams and Fabulous for 250 readers, who were in awe meeting all the designers. It was a real career highlight for me.

In 2004, H&M started rolling out their international designer collabs.

Karl Lagerfeld was first, followed by Roberto Cavalli, Marni, Stella McCartney and  many more.

Then in 2007, Kate Moss launched her first collection with Topshop, with thousands queuing along London’s Oxford Street.

At the time, the high street was on fire. Who needed designer buys when Mango stocked tin-foil trousers just like the Isabel Marant ones and you could buy a bit of Barbara Hulanicki’s legendary brand Biba from Topshop?

High street stores even started to storm London Fashion week.

Although Topshop Unique had shown collections since 2001, in 2013 River Island showed its first one in collaboration with global superstar Rihanna. KER-CHING!

A whole new generation of high-profile high street collabs followed.  Beyonce created Ivy Park with Topshop’s Philip Green and I even flew to LA for Fabulous to shoot the Kardashian sisters in their   “Kollection” for Dorothy Perkins.

Fast forward to 2024 and while the high street doesn’t look exactly like it did pre-Covid, it has made a gallant comeback. Stores like M&S, Reserved and Zara, and designer collabs Victoria Beckham X Mango and Rochelle Humes for Next are giving me all the feels.

Tap Management wanted Cruz Beckham to be known just by his first name – but his parents resisted the plan, The Mail on Sunday can reveal.

The music firm and Cruz parted ways in January, and the 19-year-old is now signed to another company, C3.

Tap wanted to shield Cruz – who plays guitar, piano, drums and mandolin – from accusations of being a ‘nepo baby‘. He has a Posh Spice tattoo on his arm.

The firm did eventually relent over the use of his surname, but it also found its plans for Cruz would occasionally clash with Brand Beckham events, including football matches and fashion shows.

A source told MailOnline: ‘Geri has had enough to deal with after all the drama with her husband’s relationship with his assistant – it has been a tough enough time – and she’s just lost patience with Mel and her little digs and jibes.

‘She’s walked away and without Geri it’s really not going to happen – in the past she’s been a driving force in the group, but she doesn’t want to deal with Mel at all at the moment let alone share a stage with her.’

Last week saw Mel make fresh jibes at her former friend by wishing her a ‘Happy 75th Birthday’ online alongside a series of unflattering photographs from their heyday, seemingly a reference to her previous jibes that Geri had lied about her age in the past.

In April Mel B broke her silence after it was reported she and her Spice Girls bandmate Geri had a frosty reunion at Victoria Beckham‘s birthday bash.

The pair are thought to have had a tense exchange before keeping their distance from one another at the party, after Mel claimed in a recent interview that Geri has lied about her age.

Following the bash, Mel appeared to extend an olive branch, as she shared a group snap with her Spice Girls bandmates on Instagram.

She wrote: ‘What an amazing girl power weekend with all my girls, i have soooo much love and respect for you ALL #friendshipneverends.’

Mel and Geri were reunited for the luxurious party held at Oswald’s in London and posed together for a group shot with other band members Emma Bunton, Victoria and Mel C – though they were at opposite ends of the line.

But The Sun claimed that Geri, 51, and Mel B, 48, were feeling tense, after Mel claimed that Ginger Spice is not 51-years-old.

Geri’s departure from the band hit headlines across the world when she made the announcement in the middle of their tour citing ‘differences’ within the group, and the band went on hiatus two years later.

When Geri left the band, she launched a solo career and enjoyed four number one singles in the UK.

However she has since been instrumental in getting the group back together and in 2016,  planned to reunite with Mel B and Emma for a reunion under new name GEM, but had to pull out when she became pregnant at the age of 43.

Then during their 2019 concert Geri apologised live on-stage for walking away all those years ago.

Between songs, she said: ‘I’m sorry. I’m sorry I left. I was just being a brat. I want to say it’s just so good to be back with the girls that I love.’

It has  been 26 years since she first appeared on Vogue, and Victoria Beckham proves she’s still got what it takes to be a cover star.

The singer opted for a daring black mini dress from her own label as she graced the cover of Vogue Australia, defying her 50-years as she showed off her svelte figure.

The fitness fanatic placed her toned arms above her head as she gave a sultry look to the camera.

In a more quirky shot, the former Spice Girl wore an oversized white wool coat from Alaia, an olive bodysuit by British designer Supriya Lele, and a pair of unusual burgundy-coloured thigh-high boots.

In the magazine, she is interviewed by Australian actress Nicole Kidman. The famous pair took time out from their summer holiday – Beckham, celebrating her 25th wedding anniversary in Corsica and Kidman in the Bahamas with her family – to speak over Zoom.

The former Posh Spice explains that she has entered the ‘next chapter’ in her 25-year marriage with former footballer David.

She said: ‘We didn’t have much of a social life when the children were younger, that is just that one thing too much.

‘Being a wife, mum and fulfilling your dreams in regards to what your passions are, and what you love to do in regards to work, was enough. But then the kids get older and they flee the nest and have their own passions. Now myself and David are in the next chapter.’

The pair share four children together, three sons, Brooklyn, 25, Romeo, 21, and Cruz, 19, and a daughter, Harper, 13.

The designer also gushed about her husband, telling Kidman the key to their long marriage was ‘respecting each other’ although confessed that it was ‘not always easy’.

She said: ‘Me and David can go away, just the two of us, and we laugh and we enjoy that time, and I think that’s so rare after so many years. It’s a pinch-me moment every day.’

Last year, the businesswoman appeared alongside her husband in a four-part Netflix documentary about his life.

In one hilarious viral clip from the show, David mocks her claims to be ‘very working-class’ by forcing her to admit that she was driven to school in a Rolls-Royce. She clarified her comments in the Vogue interview.

She said: ‘We went to a regular school and we didn’t live in a big house,

‘The minute he made money he went and bought himself a Rolls-Royce. One day we’d go to school in the Rolls-Royce and one day we’d go in the van because he’d still work, he was an electrical wholesaler.

‘Me and my siblings used to beg him, can we please go to school in the white van? Like, we were mortified at the idea of going in the Rolls-Royce.

‘How things have changed. Nowadays, I’d be like, don’t worry about the van, let’s go in the Roller!’

The fashionista has also been mocked over the years for her iconic pout and serious facial expressions, but looking back Beckham thinks it has aided her career.

She said: ‘It kinda helps me out that for many years people thought that I was very serious, maybe a little stuck-up, never smiled in pictures. Let’s be honest, fashion works better when you don’t smile.’

Victoria and David were married on July 4 1999 and share four children – Brooklyn, 25, Romeo, 21,  Cruz, 19, and Harper, 12.

Former footballer David made the most of the sunshine as he stripped down to his green swimming trunks, showcasing his muscular tattooed physique.

Megyn Kelly has another bone to pick with Meghan Markle and this time it’s because she has an issue with the fact she refers to Prince Harry as ‘her husband’.

On the latest episode of her podcast, The Megyn Kelly Show, the American media commentator slammed Markle and said she’d had enough.

‘We get it, you bagged the gorilla,’ she said on Tuesday’s episode.

‘Congratulations, you got the big bear, [and] you want us all to know.’

The comments were in response to the latest episode of Markle’s own podcast, Archetypes, when she said that her husband was ‘great’ with contributing equally to parenting.

‘Oh, my husband? Oh, he’s great,’ she said.

‘[He] gets [Archie] downstairs’, while she added she would make breakfast for the family.

‘It’s very important to me. I love doing it.’

The Life of Charles III, Kelly’s guest on the program, the pair also discussed claims made in the Oprah interview, including a part where Markle said she never looked up the Royal family prior to her relationship.

Anderson claimed that, like ‘every other young woman’, she knew exactly who they were.

‘Let’s get real, there’s always that eligible bachelor,’ Kelly agreed.

‘For my age, it was JFK Jr., for her age it was Prince Harry.’

Kelly also criticised the Duke and Duchess of Sussex for ‘ripping on the Royals to whom they owe, literally, all of their fame and most of their fortune.’

The comments come as the world waits to see the contents of Harry’s memoir, Spare, which will now be released on January 10 after being delayed due to the Queen’s passing.

The 416-page book has been billed by publisher Penguin Random House as a work of ‘raw, unflinching honesty’.

Relatives were not given a heads-up on the title – a reference to the phrase the ‘the heir and the spare’ – in advance of last week’s announcement, with a source telling the Daily Mail it will be seen as both ‘controversial’ and ‘provocative’.

Harry has previously called the book a ‘truthful and wholly accurate’ portrait of his life – the prospect of which has sent shockwaves through the royal establishment.

Loose Women was forced to apologise to viewers on Thursday afternoon after Miriam Margolyes swore live on air during her interview with the panel.

Loose Women descended into hilarity on Thursday’s show (July 4) when Miriam Margolyes dropped a swear word live on air.

The 83-year-old former Call the Midwife actress was on the ITV daytime programme to chat about her latest book, ‘Oh Miriam’, with host Kaye Adams and panellists Denise Welch, Olivia Attwood-Dack, and Nadia Sawalha.

Miriam candidly revealed the reason behind her book release, saying: “Because they paid me”, which sent the audience and panellists into fits of laughter.

Kaye quizzed her further: “Can they pay you to do anything Miriam? ” However, Miriam’s response was swiftly bleeped out due to its inappropriate nature, leaving the panel in stitches as Denise clapped her hand over her mouth in shock and Kaye shook her head disapprovingly.

Still laughing, Miriam questioned: “Am I allowed to say that, oh dear? ” before stating: “I wouldn’t eat faeces.”, reports the Express.

Nadia attempted to steer the conversation back by asking another question, but she stumbled over her words, clearly tickled by Miriam’s antics.

Later in the show, Miriam divulged another tidbit about her book, which recounts her personal stories and escapades, mentioning that it required legal vetting.

“It had to be excised by the legal people”, she disclosed, “I said things about people I didn’t like that could be libelous, and don’t want to get into a lawsuit.”
