VICTORIA Beckham is said to have gifted Meghan Markle over £6,000 worth of clothes, but it had “nil” financial benefit, according to a new biography.

Celebrity author Tom Bower claims in his new book that the former Spice Girl didn’t make many sales after the Duchess of Sussex wore her designs.

In the newly released House of Beckham, Tom claims: “Victoria agreed to provide a coat, dress, boots and a handbag worth £6,000 to Meghan for the Royal Family’s traditional Christmas Day parade in Sandringham.

“Later, Meghan wore a Beckham custom-made pregnancy outfit and a white coat and dress for a service in Westminster Abbey.

“Victoria’s style also attracted Melania Trump. She wore a Victoria Beckham dress during the president’s official visit to London.”

Despite the two famous women wearing her designs, it didn’t translate to many sales for Victoria’s label.

Tom added: “The financial benefit was nil.”

The biographer claims that there was one item that Meghan wore from Victoria’s label which did prove to be a success.

He continued: “The only success in 2019 was a £1,400 handbag that had been displayed by Meghan.”

However, Tom theorised that sales had been “prompted” by “Victoria’s Instagram video”, instead of Prince Harry’s wife.

The explosive biography also featured the rumoured rift between the Beckhams and the Sussexes, which is said to have developed in recent years.

Tom claimed Meghan was “irritated” that Victoria had “considerably more wealth” than her.

“As a seasoned operator, Meghan deluded herself that her status in the Royal family placed her above Victoria in the social pecking order.

“She was irritated to discover that the Beckhams had considerably more wealth than herself.

“They owned five homes, had constant access to private jets, invitations to sail on yachts and much more money. And she was soon to be a duchess.”

According to the book, Victoria reportedly made an effort to befriend Meghan, due to her family’s long-standing friendship with Prince Harry and Prince Wiliam.

Due to her wish to avoid paparazzi, Meghan allegedly stayed at the Beckham residence in Beverly Hills during a private trip, and it meant her “secretly provided for by the Beckhams’ staff.”

Tom claimed “a member of Victoria’s staff offered Harry’s fiancé advice on the best facials and hairdressing in London.”

When it was reported that Victoria had given Meghan make-up advice, the relationship is said to have soured, with the Duke of Sussex allegedly calling David to accuse him and Victoria of leaking stories, leaving David ‘furious.’

The Beckhams did secure an invite to Harry and Meghan’s 2018 royal wedding, however Tom claims that in a bid to “punish” the Beckhams, they were not invited to the wedding dinner, despite welcoming other big names like George Clooney, who Meghan did not know personally.

David was also “snubbed” by Harry after flying for 22 hours from London to Sydney at the royal’s request, for the 2018 Invictus Games.

Cracks allegedly first started emerging in the pair’s friendship in spring 2022 when the former footballer invited Prince William and Kate to his son Brooklyn’s wedding – and not Harry and Meghan.

AFTER flying for 22 hours from London to Sydney at Prince Harry’s request, David Beckham was puzzled why the prince had not met him.

But the prince had had no plans to see the former England football captain, nor even of being pictured with him, claimed Tom Bower.

It was October 2018, and Harry was hosting the Invictus Games.

Since David had played a prominent role bringing the 2012 Olympics to Britain and an important part in the 2010 unsuccessful bid for the football World Cup, it seemed natural for Prince Harry to ask David to join him at the celebrated competition for injured servicemen.

As a man who loved the royals, David would never refuse such an important request.

But having flown half-way around the world, he was perplexed why officials after he arrived at the sporting venue were playing a dance to keep him happy, but away from Harry.

She wanted no competition in the media from David, and especially not from his wife, Victoria.

The reason for the distance was Meghan, the newly married Duchess of Sussex.

At the time, a source said: “David’s attachment and history go back with William and Kate and they have a very strong relationship and they were their choice of wedding guests.

“It was always about them, it was never about Meghan and Harry.

“They are the people David and Victoria are attached to and it’s always been about them because they’ve had a long history together.”

And perhaps it wasn’t a coincidence that after the apparent ‘snub’, Meghan seemingly stopped wearing Victoria’s designs – while Kate wore them more frequently.

It seems the Beckhams’ loyalty to the other members of the royal family has paid off, with David being given a top charity ambassador role by King Charles after the pair bonded over love of nature.

Ex-Manchester United ace Becks, 49, surprised the King, 75, last year with a jar of his homemade honey then chatted about their passion for beekeeping.

Going into town on Saturday became a family tradition — a girls’ day out we  looked forward to all week.

My mum’s favourite shop was M&S, where she would gaze at jackets with big shoulder pads and floral sundresses, while my nan would make a beeline for John Lewis and their classic coats and elegant court shoes.

I was all over Tammy Girl  and Chelsea Girl, which was later rebranded to high street fave River Island. I would spend hours in the changing rooms, watched   by my two cheerleaders, who gave the thumbs-up — or   down — on what I was trying on.

Frilly ra-ra skirts, duster coats, polka-dot leggings . . .  I tried them all, often making my nan howl with laughter.

Fashion wasn’t so fast back in the 1980s and every item was cherished and worn until it fell apart — literally.

At 18, I went to art college and my tastes became more refined.  Extra cash from a part-time job in a bar meant I could move on to slightly more expensive stores, such as Warehouse, Miss Selfridge and  Topshop. I knew at this point I wanted to work in fashion as the high street had totally seduced me.

High street buys that look designer even fashion pro can’t tell the difference

It’s not just me that loves the high street — big-name designers are fans, too. When “Cool Britannia” hit  in the Nineties, the brands all turned up in one big store.

Designers at Debenhams  was a stroke of genius by the store’s CEO Belinda Earl, designer Ben de Lisi and fashion director Spencer Hawken, who introduced diffusion ranges from John Rocha, Matthew Williamson and Betty Jackson to name a few.

This meant we could all afford a bit of luxury. Years later, I hosted a night with Debenhams and Fabulous for 250 readers, who were in awe meeting all the designers. It was a real career highlight for me.

In 2004, H&M started rolling out their international designer collabs.

Karl Lagerfeld was first, followed by Roberto Cavalli, Marni, Stella McCartney and  many more.

Then in 2007, Kate Moss launched her first collection with Topshop, with thousands queuing along London’s Oxford Street.

At the time, the high street was on fire. Who needed designer buys when Mango stocked tin-foil trousers just like the Isabel Marant ones and you could buy a bit of Barbara Hulanicki’s legendary brand Biba from Topshop?

High street stores even started to storm London Fashion week.

Although Topshop Unique had shown collections since 2001, in 2013 River Island showed its first one in collaboration with global superstar Rihanna. KER-CHING!

A whole new generation of high-profile high street collabs followed.  Beyonce created Ivy Park with Topshop’s Philip Green and I even flew to LA for Fabulous to shoot the Kardashian sisters in their   “Kollection” for Dorothy Perkins.

Fast forward to 2024 and while the high street doesn’t look exactly like it did pre-Covid, it has made a gallant comeback. Stores like M&S, Reserved and Zara, and designer collabs Victoria Beckham X Mango and Rochelle Humes for Next are giving me all the feels.

The last 30 years of high street fashion have been one big adventure for me.

Newly uncovered details contained within the visa forms could potentially jeopardize Harry’s ability to remain in the United States, raising the specter of deportation back to the UK.

“It’s quite clear that Prince Harry’s move to the US was driven largely by financial considerations and a desire for fame, not the privacy he claimed to be seeking,” the source said. This raises serious doubts about the truthfulness of his application.

Additionally, the source alleged that Harry neglected to properly report the full extent of his personal wealth and assets, potentially violating US immigration laws regarding financial disclosures. “There are indications that he intentionally undervalued his net worth and income sources,” the source claimed.

 

When asked for comment, representatives for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle vehemently denied the allegations, calling them “baseless rumors and smears.” A spokesperson stated the couple have “always been fully transparent about their finances and personal circumstances,” suggesting any claims to the contrary are “simply false and malicious.”

However, the revelations have sparked intense scrutiny, with legal experts weighing in on the potential consequences if the allegations prove legitimate. Immigration attorney Julia Hernandez said providing misleading information on a visa application could result in revocation and even deportation, as the US takes such matters very seriously.

 

Hernandez explained that the burden of proof would fall to Prince Harry to demonstrate the accuracy of his application through supporting documentation and satisfactory explanations for any discrepancies or omissions found. Failure to do so, she warned, could lead to termination of his visa status and removal from the US.

The potential fallout has also begun reverberating across the Atlantic, with UK royal commentators speculating on implications for the monarchy if Harry is found to have misled authorities. “This is an absolute bombshell that could have far-reaching consequences…for the entire Royal Family,” said royal correspondent Nigel Fairchild.

 

Fairchild suggested the Queen and senior royals may feel compelled to distance themselves from Harry and Meghan to avoid any potential backlash or damage to the monarchy’s reputation in the event of impropriety or legal issues.

A leading Royal Family expert believes Prince Harry and Meghan won’t permanently return to the UK anytime soon – because he can’t see the Duchess of Sussex wanting to curtsy to Kate.

Andrew Morton believes the relationship between the Duchess and the Princess of Wales is one of the reasons the Sussexes are likely to continue their life in the United States.

Morton, who wrote the book Diana: Her True Story, says the Sussexes have their own commitments in the United States.

He was discussing the likelihood of a move back to the UK on Trevor Philips on Sunday on Sky News. It was there Philips asked if he could ever see Harry and Meghan returning to Britain.

Morton responded: “What, and have Meghan Markle curtsying to Kate Middleton? I don’t think so.

“I don’t see that as a runner. They’ve got their own lives in California. They’ve got their own set, they’ve got their own influence, and they’ve got their own companies.”

Morton was speaking days before the duke is expected to return to the UK to mark the one-year anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II’s death.

Royal Highnesses bow and curtsy only to majesties, so Meghan would only have to do so to Kate once the princess becomes Queen.

Harry meanwhile explored Meghan and Kate’s fractious relationship in his autobiography, recounting how the princess, pregnant at the time with Prince Louis, said she was owed an apology from Meghan after she said Kate was suffering from “baby brain” due to her “hormones”.
