Princess Kate or Meghan Markle – Who has the biggest style-effect?

As two of the most well-known women in the world, both the Princess of Wales and Meghan Markle have had major impact on the world of fashion.

    Princess Kate in July

The Princess of Wales and Meghan Markle, who live 5,000 miles apart from one another, are two of the world’s biggest fashion influences.

From the UK to the US, the pair have impacted the world of fashion by stepping out in different pieces from various brands and companies across the globe – but who has had the biggest style-effect? Princess Kate or Meghan?

The Princess of Wales, who officially joined the Royal Family in 2011, has long been celebrated for her impeccable style.

Much like her sister-in-law, Meghan has also influenced many fans, with a bag by Strathberry that she sported in 2017 selling out on the website in 11 minutes after images of her graced the internet. Kate is also known to have sent brands global overnight.

Designer Jennifer Chamandi, whose elegant heels have been worn by both Kate and Meghan, previously spoke of their impact on her brand.

As reported by Harpers Bazaar, she previously said: “The increase in brand awareness and enquiries was immediate, not just in the UK but especially in the US.”

The Duchess of Sussex, who officially joined the Royal Family in 2018, chose a pair of two-tone pumps with the brand’s signature strap for a visit to the Robert Clack School in Dagenham in 2020. Princess Kate soon followed suit, and sported the Lorenzo 105 black suede pumps for a visit to the V&A museum the following year.

According to Chamandi, the ‘Kate-effect’ was ‘instantaneous’, and the brand received messages from “stockists globally” who quickly wanted the style that was worn by the mother of three.

According to the  Daily Mail, Kate had been “highlighting British brands long before Meghan”. Although Meghan appears to have boosted brands such as Veja and Aquazurra, Kate has reportedly boosted the UK fashion industry by an estimated £1 billion.

In 2022, Kate was also spotted wearing the Alicia Camilla Elphick pumps for a charity polo match. Although already one of the brand’s most popular shoes, sales “went off the scale” when the royal wore them.

According to Harpers Bazaar, designer Camilla said: “…At the time, the style was our most popular anyway, but when people saw Kate wearing it, it completely sold out.”

Meghan previously spoke to the New York Times about her own style impact and the ‘Meghan-effect’, the mother of two said: “Times where I know there is a global spotlight, and attention will be given to each detail of what I may or may not be wearing, then I support designers that I have really great friendships with, and smaller, up-and-coming brands that haven’t gotten the attention that they should be getting.

“That’s one of the most powerful things that I’m able to do, and that’s simply wearing, like, an earring.”

During the global lockdown, which began in March 2020, Kate’s looks reportedly increased global fashion searches by 96 percent.

According to lovethesales.com, Meghan’s outfits – in contrast – only mustered a 35 percent uplift in global searches since that month.

The website states: “Kate’s outfits are four times more likely to sell out than Meghan’s, with 15 out of 17 outfits currently sold out for Kate and one of Meghan’s six looks going out of stock.”

Prince Harry is said to be open to supporting the Royal Family in their duties if he were to be asked by King Charles – but if that were to happen Harry would want one thing from his estranged brother Prince William

    Princes William and Harry

Prince Harry has a strict demand concerning Prince William that could prove a barrier to a return to the royal fold, sources have revealed.

The Duke of Sussex is focused on “making a success of his life” in the United States and maintains he is happy with his decision on choosing to quit his royal life, insiders close to Harry have suggested.

However, it remains that he would be open to taking up a temporary role within the family to “help out” if he was asked to do so by the King. But Harry, who turns 40 next week, would still look for an apology from his warring brother if he were to represent the family in any capacity.

Friends of Harry say he is aware of his brother’s feelings on the matter after The Mirror previously revealed Prince William suggested there was “zero chance” he would be welcomed back into the fold after penning his explosive memoir, Spare.

Harry, 39, took aim at close members of his family and accused the King and Prince William of being desperate to leave the royal family if they could. William and Harry have not spoken for months and currently have no contact, choosing to stay apart from each other even when in the same room last month for their uncle Lord Fellows’ funeral in Norfolk.

Reports at the weekend suggested Harry had contacted a group of former trusted advisors as well as old pals to create a “blueprint” outlining how he might one day begin moving in UK circles again.

But The Mirror understands this is “far from his mind” and any contact with former aides would be “purely for strategic and friendly advice”, rather than any plot to return to the fold. Sources close to Harry say given the royal family’s position this year, with the King and Princess of Wales both forced to take extended periods of leave from duties due to cancer treatment, the Duke remains open and willing to assist if he was called upon.

Friends of Harry say he is also determined to improve his relationship with his father, especially given his recent health woes

But according to the Daily Mail’s royal editor Rebecca English, The Firm has “called his bluff” by choosing to remain quiet and not offering an apology. Speaking about Harry on the latest episode of the Palace Confidential, she said: “As regards to the apology, what I think this boils down to is the Royal Family have called his bluff.

“They haven’t reacted to any of his demands or his threats, either publicly or privately, I mean they, pretty much, have ignored the fact that Spare had been published.” She said she believes the idea of silence is the “right approach” to respond to Harry and his many accusations and claims.

She added: “It’s like don’t listen, don’t make a fuss, don’t give into it, just let it through [and] it’ll blow away and harmony will restore itself.

RICHARD EDEN: The ‘Meghan problem’ and the overlooked reasons courtiers and friends tell me why William and Kate won’t welcome back Harry

The much-heralded reunion of Oasis rock stars Noel and Liam Gallagher has led to numerous calls for an even more prominent pair of estranged brothers to ‘get the band back together’.

While the Mancunian musicians are due to play for the money, Princes William and Harry would be performing together on the world stage for the good of the Monarchy, or so the argument goes.

Those calling for King Charles’s sons to use the Gallaghers as a model for fraternal reconciliation, have, however, conveniently overlooked two key factors that have been stressed to me during conversations over the past week with courtiers and royal pals.

Firstly, the Gallagher rapprochement was agreed only, it is said, because of Noel’s separation from his second wife, Sara MacDonald. The PR executive was widely thought to have stood in the way of any Oasis reunion. She and irascible Liam had clashed repeatedly over the years, with Liam even comparing her and his brother, at one point, to being ‘like Fred and Rose West’.

Prince William, right, has refused to be drawn into a slanging match with his brother Harry

Noel Gallagher, left, publicly traded insults with his brother Liam for years

Harry, by contrast, remains happily married to Meghan. Although the American former actress has not compared William and the Princess of Wales to serial killers, she has publicly claimed Catherine made her cry and accused unnamed royals of being racists. The accused were later identified by Meghan’s cheerleader Omid Scobie as Catherine and the King.

The second overlooked factor is that Noel publicly traded insults with his brother for years, calling him, for example, ‘the angriest man you’ll ever meet’. Noel added of the singer: ‘He’s like a man with a fork in a world of soup.’

By contrast, William, like his wife, has refused to be drawn into a slanging match with his brother that would be unbecoming of a future King. We have only caught glimpses of his anger at the insults to which he has been subjected from across the Atlantic.

Who can forget the Prince of Wales declaring forcefully, ‘We are very much not a racist family’, when a reporter shouted a question to him on his first public engagement after Harry and Meghan’s explosive interview with Oprah Winfrey in 2021?

At one point Liam compared Noel and his wife Sara MacDonald to Fred and Rose West

Unlike Noel and Sara MacDonald, Harry and Meghan remain happily married

Harry’s attendance at the memorial service in Norfolk for his uncle Lord (Robert) Fellowes last week, who died in July aged 82, was the first time that he has been at the same event as his brother since 2022. Then, they took part in an awkward walkabout at Windsor with their wives after the death of their grandmother Queen Elizabeth.

Although fellow mourners said the brothers did not speak to each other at St Mary’s Church in Snettisham, their attendance has provoked much speculation about a reconciliation between the pair.

However, not one of the friends or courtiers I spoke to this week thought that would happen, at least not in the near future.

As his wife has treatment for cancer, a friend of William says there is one member of the family the prince is keen to see returning to public engagements – and it’s not Harry

‘There will be no reunion until Harry and Meghan apologise to their Royal Highnesses for everything they have said,’ one former courtier told me. ‘And there is no sign that is likely.’

A friend of the royals told me: ‘It’s hard to see a reconciliation. How could there be when William and Catherine have the justifiable fear that anything they say could appear in a future book or be repeated in a TV programme.’

In a reference to Catherine, who has been undergoing treatment for an unnamed form of cancer, a pal of William told me: ‘There is one member of the family who William is keen to see returning to public engagements – and it’s not Harry.’

Amidst turmoil within the royal family, fans rally in support of Meghan Markle, proclaiming, “Meghan possesses all the qualities of a future queen.”

In a surprising revelation, Meghan Markle, alongside Prince Harry, made headlines in 2020 when they decided to step down from their roles within the working royal family. However, recent reports have shed light on a lesser-known incident involving Meghan’s past acting career.

Fans Rally Behind Meghan Markle Amid Royal Family's Concerns

According to the show’s creator, Aaron Korsh, Meghan Markle faced restrictions on using a particular British term during the final season of the hit TV series “Suits.” In an interview that has recently resurfaced, Korsh disclosed that the Duchess of Sussex was prohibited by the Palace from saying the word “poppyc***” on camera.

This directive reportedly dates back to before Meghan’s marriage to Prince Harry in 2018 when she was still portraying the character Rachel Zane in the legal drama series.

Korsh explained that the original script included a line where Meghan’s character, Rachel Zane, was supposed to mention the term “poppyc***” as a subtle reference to his own family’s communication habits. He elaborated, “My wife’s family, when they have a topic to discuss that might be sensitive, they use the word ‘poppyc***’.”

However, the Royal Family intervened and objected to Meghan saying the word, expressing concerns that it could be manipulated to sound like a more offensive term. Korsh recalled, “They didn’t want to put the word ‘poppyc***’ in her mouth. I presume because they didn’t want people cutting things together of her saying ‘ck.’ So, we had to change it to ‘bulls*.’”

The resurfacing of this revelation, particularly on social media platform TikTok, has sparked mixed reactions among royal fans. While some applaud the Palace’s caution, noting the potential for misinterpretation or manipulation of the footage, others argue that in the modern era, such restrictions may seem outdated.

“It’s only right they consider this stuff,” commented one supporter of the Palace’s decision, emphasizing the importance of upholding the royal family’s image as representatives of the British state.

Conversely, another commenter pointed out, “it’s the 21st century and it’s just a word,” suggesting a more relaxed stance on such language restrictions.

The incident serves as a reminder of the intricacies and protocols surrounding the royal family’s public image, even in seemingly minor aspects of their lives and careers.

YOU MUST BE CRAZY! Harry FURIOUSLY STORMS Out of Invictus Headquarters as Germany KICKS HIM OUT

Harry FURIOUSLY STORMS Out of Invictus Headquarters as Germany DROPS Him for Dr. Stephan Keller

Word on the street is that Harry had a massive meltdown at Invictus headquarters last week after finding out some shocking news about Germany’s involvement in this year’s games. Apparently the German government informed Harry that they were cutting all ties and sponsorships with Invictus and would no longer be participating under his leadership.

Instead, they revealed they would be working directly with Dr. Stephan Keller – a highly decorated German colonel and former Invictus competitor – to launch their very own Paralympic-style event in 2023 completely independent of Harry and Invictus. Major OOF!

My sources say Harry totally lost it when he found out. He started angrily pacing around the boardroom, yelling things like “After everything I’ve done for Germany, this is how you repay me??” and “How dare you undermine my authority and leadership!”.

The latest rumor circulating about Prince Harry is a dramatic meltdown at the Invictus Games headquarters following a shocking revelation from Germany. According to sources, Harry was informed that the German government had decided to cut all ties with Invictus under his leadership and instead would work with Dr. Stephen Keller, a highly respected German veteran and former Invictus competitor, to launch their own paralympic-style event in 2023. This news reportedly sent Harry into a furious outburst, pacing around the boardroom, shouting about how he felt betrayed by Germany.

Eyewitnesses describe a chaotic scene, with Harry allegedly throwing a potted plant in anger and storming out while cursing both Germany and the Invictus Games. The root of his frustration appears to stem from Germany choosing Dr. Keller, citing his strong leadership and vision, which was seen as a critique of Harry’s capabilities.

The fallout from this incident seems significant. Not only did Harry lose Germany as a key Invictus supporter, but morale within Invictus HQ is said to have plummeted, with some countries now reconsidering their participation in future games. Dr. Keller, on the other hand, reportedly made a smooth entrance into the same boardroom after Harry’s exit, impressing the German officials with his calm demeanor and quickly setting plans in motion for the new event.

This series of events, if true, paints a stark contrast between Harry’s leadership and that of Dr. Keller, with many praising the latter’s professionalism. Meanwhile, Harry’s reputation seems to be taking a hit, with rumors that corporate sponsors and media partners like Netflix and Spotify are becoming wary of his volatile behavior. The Invictus Games, once a symbol of Harry’s positive influence, now face a turbulent future amidst this internal crisis.

In a shocking turn of events, it has been revealed that Sir Nicholas Soames, a close friend of Prince Charles, leaked the fabricated news of Meghan Markle’s pregnancy with Archie to the King.

Despite conflicting reports from both sides, claiming the King’s desire to extend an olive branch and Meghan’s wish for a harmonious relationship with Charles, it is clear that these statements hold no truth.

The royal family is currently grappling with a much bigger issue – the impending revelation of the use of surrogates.

This scandalous subject continues to plague the royals, who must find a way to handle it without implicating themselves in the deceit.

Understandably, there is a great deal of animosity within the family towards Meghan for repeatedly subjecting them to this immense mess, which has become a daily source of turmoil for the monarchy.

Everyone within the palace has their own ideas on how to address the situation.

Leading this charge is Sir Nicholas Soames, a trusted confidant of Charles and a member of his inner circle.

Although he does not hold an official role within the royal household, his familial connection to Winston Churchill, who enjoyed close ties with the royals during his tenure as Prime Minister, grants him significant influence.

The truth surrounding the existence of invisible children, the use of surrogates, the bullying allegations, and any other pertinent information must be brought to light.

The public has grown weary of the ongoing drama surrounding the Markles, and their patience has worn thin.

How did Matt Lauer's revelation about Prince Archie's paternity affect Meghan Markle? - Quora

Many suspect that the family was initially deceived and only discovered the truth when they were already trapped in a precarious situation.

While there may have been initial sympathy for Meghan, the tide is turning against her, and people are beginning to question her motives.

The recent birthday story published in Spur magazine also raises eyebrows.

It is highly unlikely that a woman would be discharged from the hospital just two hours after receiving an epidural, as the article suggests.

Such a quick departure may be plausible if Meghan were not the one giving birth.

Speculation abounds, and while some may initially sympathize with the less fortunate and angry individuals involved, a growing number of people suspect the truth and believe that the royal family was initially hoodwinked.

Despite their initial victimhood, the British royal family may eventually find forgiveness from the public.

They were unwitting participants in this elaborate scam, preoccupied with their own lives and duties.

Sir Nicholas Soames has also defended his friend of 65 years, stating that past indiscretions should not overshadow his loyalty.

On the other side of the divide, Queen Camilla, Prince William, and Catherine are firmly resolved to see Harry and Meghan dealt with decisively, putting an end to their disruptive games once and for all.

King Charles, a considerate and peace-seeking monarch, simply desires a quiet life, and who can blame him?

Meanwhile, Prince Harry and Meghan seem determined to secure a substantial financial settlement for themselves and their children.

It is worth noting that they have distanced themselves from another grandfather figure, though this time it does not involve any jewelry or precious gems.

In other news, the popularity of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle has taken a hit as a recent poll reveals a decline in public opinion compared to other members of the British royal family.

The survey indicates that a mere 14% of respondents in the UK consider Harry and Meghan to be positive role models.

In contrast, a significant 71% view Prince William and Kate Middleton in a favorable light, marking a 7% increase since the same question was asked in 2020.

Princess Diana is buried on the grounds of her childhood home.

Following her tragic death on Aug. 31, 1997, the royal was laid to rest on a small, secluded, tree-covered island at Althorp Estate known as Oval Lake Grave.

“It has been decided to bury Diana, Princess of Wales, in the grounds of Althorp Park, where her grave can be properly looked after by her family and visited in privacy by her sons,” her brother, Charles, 9th Earl Spencer, said in a statement after her death.

He later told BBC, “There was such a whipped-up feeling of emotion everywhere that I was very worried about where we could safely bury her.”

Charles previously spoke to PEOPLE about Diana’s resting place within the property’s Pleasure Gardens. “She’s in a happy and secure place,” he said.

While Princess Diana’s gravesite is not accessible to the public, visitors can pay tribute to the late royal at a memorial erected on the property. In November 2023, Charles visited his late sister’s memorial, sharing a photo of the building on Instagram and writing, “A special corner of Althorp, this morning.”

While much of Princess Diana’s bloodline is buried at St. Mary the Virgin church in Great Brington, including her father, John Spencer, the late princess was laid to rest 80 miles north of the family vault. Her brother, Charles, chose to bury Diana at their childhood home, Althorp Estate, due to concerns about public safety.

Diana’s brother also wanted her sons, Prince William and Prince Harry, to be able to visit their mother in privacy. “I think it’s very important for them to be there with her,” Charles once told PEOPLE. “It is, luckily, very tranquil here and they can come and go as they wish whenever they want. And that’s very lovely for me to know that.”

Charles also wrote about his decision in his 1998 book, Althorp: The Story of an English House. “We all agreed that, with its beauty and tranquility, this was the place for Diana to be,” he shared.

Diana’s grave is located on a small island in the middle of the property’s ornamental Oval Lake. Though a temporary walkway was constructed for her 1997 funeral, according to The Independent, it was later removed, deterring unwanted guests from visiting the site.

As Charles wrote in his book, its remoteness is entirely intentional, with the lake “[acting] as a buffer against the interventions of the insane and ghoulish, the thick mud presenting a further line of defense.”

According to Charles, Oval Lake, which The Independent reported was designed by Samuel Lapidge, was created in the 19th century, “when English winters were generally much colder than now.”

“It was put in because my family had a thing for ice skating,” he wrote on Instagram in October 2022.

The Sun reported in August 2023 that the path to Oval Lake is lined with 36 oak trees — one for each year of Princess Diana’s life.

According to The Independent, the trees were planted by members of the royal family, including the late Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother, King Charles, Prince William and Prince Harry as well as members of Diana’s family including her father and brother.

While Princess Diana’s burial site is not open to the public, those seeking to honor the late princess can still pay tribute to her memory at a separate memorial built on the grounds of Althorp in July 1998, according to the Washington Post.

Known as “The Temple,” the Grecian-looking building was purchased for 3 pounds by John, 5th Earl Spencer in the 1880s, according to The Independent. It now bears Diana’s name and features two tablets. A quote from the princess is printed on one: “Nothing brings me more happiness than trying to help the most vulnerable people in society. It is a goal and an essential part of my life, a kind of destiny, whoever is in distress can call on me. I will come running wherever they are.”

The other has a quote taken from Charles’ eulogy, which he delivered during her funeral at Westminster Abbey: “We give thanks for the life of a woman I am so proud to be able to call my sister, the unique, the complex, the extraordinary & irreplaceable Diana, whose beauty both internal & external will never extinguish from our minds.”

Charles also opened a museum dedicated to Diana’s memory at Althorp for a time, which allowed paying visitors to see artifacts that belonged to the royal, including her dresses, tiaras and jewelry, as well as more sentimental artifacts, such as pictures, letters and home movies. Per the Washington Post, the earl vowed to donate a “substantial portion” of the museum’s earnings to his sister’s memorial charity.

Though the museum closed in 2014, the public can still visit Diana’s memorial and Althorp Estate during the summer months.

On the 25th anniversary of Diana’s death in 2022, Prince Harry brought his wife, Meghan Markle, to Oval Lake for the first time. Prince Harry recalled making the trip in his 2023 memoir, Spare, writing, “I helped Meg into the boat. It wobbled, but I quick-stepped to the middle, got it righted in time.”

He continued: “As she found a seat in the stern, I took up the oars. They didn’t work. We’re stuck. The thick mud of the shallows had us in its grip. Uncle Charles came down to the water’s edge, gave us a little shove.”

Though Harry said the visit was admittedly not “easy,” he expressed his desire to share his mother’s final resting place with Meghan, writing, “At long last, I was bringing the girl of my dreams home to meet mum.”

According to Harry, Meghan took a few moments alone with her late mother-in-law during the trip, asking for “clarity and guidance” — two things he had asked for moments earlier. “When I came back, Meg was kneeling, eyes shut, palms against the stone,” he wrote.

In 2017, Diana’s gravesite underwent a massive makeover considered the “first major revamp of the gardens in 350 years,” according to a statement on the Althorp website, per Express.

The announcement continued: “The Oval Lake where Diana, Princess of Wales, was laid to rest on September 6, 1997, is undergoing an extensive redesign to honor her memory. It will be completed in time for the 20th anniversary of her death, in August 2017.”

Rhododendrons and forget-me-nots — Diana’s favorite flower — were also re-planted at the site. “I still remember giving her some when we were children,” Charles told PEOPLE of the flower. “When I was 6, I gave her a white pot of blue forget-me-nots.”

Following the renovation, Prince Harry, Prince William, Kate, and their children, Prince George and Princess Charlotte, were included in a rededication ceremony to the late royal.

Princess Diana was one of five children born to parents John Spencer and Frances Shand Kydd.

She grew up with two older sisters, Lady Sarah McCorquodale and Lady Jane Fellowes, and a younger brother, Charles Spencer, 9th Earl Spencer. Diana also had an older brother, John Spencer, who died just hours after his birth in 1960.

While Diana’s older sisters Sarah and Jane have lived relatively private lives since the royal’s death in 1997, Charles has been a vocal advocate for and protector of Diana’s memory and legacy. On what would have been Diana’s 60th birthday in July 2021, all three siblings joined the late princess’ sons, Prince William and Prince Harry, for the unveiling of an honorary statue of Diana on the grounds of Kensington Palace.

Today, Charles lives at Althorp, the home that Diana and her siblings grew up in, which is also the site of her final resting place.

In 2017, he told PEOPLE that he’s always felt “intensely protective” toward his sister and wishes he could have saved her from her tragic accident.

“I was furious, I wasn’t just angry,” he recalled. “[I thought] what could I have done. It was just … it was devastating.”

From their childhood to how they celebrate the life of their sister, here is everything to know about Princess Diana’s siblings.

After marrying in 1954, Princess Diana’s parents, John Spencer and Frances Shand Kydd, welcomed their first child, daughter Sarah, one year later. Their second child, Jane, was born in 1957. Before welcoming Diana in 1961 and son Charles in 1964, the couple also gave birth to a baby boy named John, though he died the same day.

John and Frances divorced in 1969 and John was awarded sole custody of the children.

“Diana and I had two older sisters who were away at school, so she and I were very much in it together and I did talk to her about it,” Charles told The Sunday Times in 2020 of his parents’ split. “Our father was a quiet and constant source of love, but our mother wasn’t cut out for maternity. Not her fault, she couldn’t do it. She was in love with someone else — infatuated, really.”

Charles has said there are many myths about their childhood

Diana and her siblings were raised at Park House, a rented home at Queen Elizabeth’s Sandringham estate, until the mid-70s, when John moved the family to Althorp Estate, the Spencer family home located in Northamptonshire, England.

In 2017, Charles told PEOPLE that there are “many myths” about their upbringing, including that they never called his sister “Di” and the royal was never particularly shy.

“First of all, none of us ever called her ‘Di’ at home. In fact, there are so many myths from our childhood that are just so ridiculous. That’s one of them,” he told PEOPLE. “I just think she was never shy, but she was canny about people and she was reserved to start with. And she would take a judgment of somebody before reacting to them. So, that’s not shy … that’s actually quite clever.”

He also described Princess Diana as “incredibly brave” and recalled a time when he and his sisters caught lobsters while visiting their mother in Scotland.

“We pulled up [a pot] and there was a really massive conger eel,” he said. “It was black and it had teeth was very long and it was flapping around the boat. And Diana just got a pen knife out and just dealt with it. It was hand-to-hand and she just got stuck in. This thing was really a creature from the deep. And she just dealt with it.”

Princess Diana had an older brother, John, who died hours after he was born

Princess Diana’s parents, John and Frances, welcomed their third child, a baby boy named John, on Jan. 12, 1960. Sadly, John died hours after he was born.

Princess Diana did not publicly mention her brother during her lifetime, but in May 2022, her younger brother Charles shared on Instagram that he had his older brother’s tombstone restored.

“Looking as it should, now,” Charles captioned a photo of the tombstone before and after the work. “… I never knew my older brother, John, and live 100 miles from his grave – but, seeing it last summer, realised serious action was required. Thank you, BB, for making it look as it should. #family #rip #brother.”

Sarah briefly dated King Charles before Princess Diana — and introduced them

Diana’s oldest sister Sarah, who is six years her senior, briefly dated King Charles in the late ’70s. Though Sarah and King Charles’ romance didn’t last, she acquainted her younger sister with the then-prince.

“I introduced them. I’m Cupid,” Sarah told The Guardian in 1981.

When Charles and Diana got engaged, Sarah had already married Neil McCorquodale — with whom she shares three children: George, Emily and Celia.

When Diana was 16, her sister Jane married Queen Elizabeth II’s then-assistant private secretary, Robert Fellowes. Diana served as a bridesmaid at the wedding.

Jane’s marriage to Fellowes’ eventually kept the sisters physically close, as the Fellowes family lived in Kensington Palace, where Diana lived with her then-husband King Charles and two sons.

Sadly, however, the professional ties Fellowes had with the royal family were ultimately the cause of the undoing of Jane and Diana’s relationship in the final years of Diana’s life. Robert was promoted to private secretary in 1990 — and as Diana’s marriage to King Charles began to crumble, he often stayed loyal to the palace. The sisters reportedly barely spoke in the last 18 months of Diana’s life, and Jane has never spoken publicly about the princess’ death.

Jane is still married to Fellowes, and the pair have three children of her own: Laura, Alexander and Eleanor.

Diana’s younger brother Charles has welcomed seven children over the course of his three marriages.

He and his first wife, Victoria Lockwood, share four children: Lady Kitty Eleanor Spencer, Lady Eliza Victoria Spencer, Lady Katya Amelia Spencer and Louis Spencer, Viscount Althorp.

After Charles and Lockwood split in 1997, he wed second wife Caroline Freud, with whom he shares the Honourable Edmund Spencer and Lady Lara Spencer.

In 2011, Charles married his third wife, Karen Gordon, and the pair have one daughter named Lady Charlotte Diana Spencer. The pair announced their divorce in June 2024.

“It is immensely sad,” Charles told the Mail on Sunday. “I wish Karen every happiness in the future.”

All three of Diana’s siblings have seemingly maintained close relationships with their nephews, Prince William and Prince Harry. They attended Prince William’s wedding to Kate Middleton in 2011 and Prince Harry’s wedding to Meghan Markle seven years later. (Jane even gave a reading during Meghan and Harry’s nuptials.)

After Prince William and Princess Kate welcomed their daughter, Princess Charlotte, in 2015, Jane was named godmother to the young royal. Both Jane and Sarah also attended the christening of Prince Harry and Meghan’s son, Prince Archie, in 2019.

While Charles has lamented that his sister will never be able to meet her grandchildren, he has continuously praised her sons.

As Charles told PEOPLE in 2017, “I love seeing the sort of uncomplicated way that they deal with people, and put them at their ease. It’s so easy to connect the dots between them and their mother.”

They decided Princess Diana’s final resting place should be Althorp

Following Diana’s death in Paris, Sarah joined King Charles to bring her body home to the U.K. While she hasn’t spoken much about her sister’s death in the decades since, she did serve as president of the Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Fund before it closed in 2012.

As for Charles, he played an important role at Diana’s funeral in 1997, walking behind her coffin during the processional and delivering a powerful eulogy inside Westminster Abbey.

Diana was eventually laid to rest on the grounds of Althorp — specifically on a small island in the middle Round Oval lake. The siblings also dedicated a pre-existing temple in their sister’s honor, a public space for visitors to pay their respects to the late princess.

Charles visits the memorial regularly and shares photos of the “special corner of Althorp” on Instagram.

Charles wrote an “intensely personal childhood memoir” titled A Very Private School

Charles wrote a memoir about his childhood, A Very Private School, which was published in the U.K. in March 2024.

Ahead of the memoir’s release, Charles revealed he was sexually abused by a woman while at boarding school in the U.K. in a preview of an interview that aired on the Today show.

“We were locked away. We were like prisoners,” he said of the prestigious boarding school Maidwell Hall. “We were preyed to very bad people’s worst instincts.”

Charles added that the first person he ever told about the abuse was “a therapist when I was about 42.” He explained, “He said, ‘Whisper to me one thing you’ve never told anyone.’ And I said, ‘I was sexually abused by a woman as a child.’ “

Maidwell Hall told Today in a statement that they have notified the local authorities to investigate possible crimes against children.

While talking to PEOPLE during the week his book was released, Charles said that when his older sisters, Sarah and Jane, found out about the abuse just 18 months earlier, they were “stunned and appalled,” and it wasn’t something he’d ever talked about with Diana.

“I don’t remember us ever really discussing what we were going through. She went to a very gentle place, I believe,” he said. “We would reconnect for the school holidays, and I don’t remember ever talking about it with her.”

  • The whole hall fell into ‘SILENCE’ when Antonio Banderas shouted at Harry at the Venice Film Festival: ‘TRAITOR, NO ONE WILL CALL YOU PRINCE ANYMORE’

The whole hall fell into ‘SILENCE’ when Antonio Banderas shouted at Harry at the Venice Film Festival: ‘TRAITOR, NO ONE WILL CALL YOU PRINCE ANYMORE’

Antonio Banderas made headlines with an explosive outburst at the Venice Film Festival, leading to a dramatic encounter with Prince Harry. In the glamorous world of film festivals where artistry often intersects with unexpected drama, few could have anticipated the confrontation that unfolded this year.

Dressed in a sleek tuxedo, Antonio Banderas, a seasoned star of international cinema, found himself in a heated exchange that left onlookers stunned. While signing autographs on the red carpet for his latest film, *Baby Girl*, Banderas’s demeanor shifted from charming to furious upon spotting Prince Harry. In a surprising turn of events, he angrily threw his pen toward the royal, sparking a firestorm of speculation about celebrity culture, loyalty, and the impact of personal choices in the public eye.

The Venice Film Festival is renowned not only for its films but also for attracting a myriad of dazzling personalities. On this particular day, amid the shouts of fans and the flash of cameras, Banderas was engaging warmly with admirers and showcasing the charisma that has endeared him to many. However, the atmosphere took a dramatic turn when Prince Harry appeared. Witnesses reported that Banderas’s reaction was one of disbelief and anger. He appeared genuinely shocked to see Harry and, in a moment of indignation, referred to him as a “traitor” before hurling his pen in the prince’s direction.

This incident has left many questioning what could have triggered such a reaction from the typically composed actor. The clash between Banderas and Harry is set against the backdrop of modern celebrity and royal life complexities. Prince Harry, once a beloved member of the British royal family, has faced intense scrutiny since stepping back from his royal duties and relocating to the United States. His revelations about his life within the monarchy, struggles with mental health, and candid discussions about racism have polarized public opinion. While some admire his courage, others view his actions as a betrayal of his royal heritage.

Antonio Banderas, embodying the passion and intensity of a true artist, has built a career on portraying characters with deep emotional struggles and complex moral dilemmas. For Banderas, Harry’s departure from royal responsibilities and his outspoken nature may have seemed at odds with the loyalty and dedication he values.

As news of the incident spread, media outlets quickly framed it as a dramatic confrontation between Hollywood and royalty. Social media erupted with reactions ranging from outrage to amusement. Memes depicting Banderas as a vigilante hero confronting perceived disloyalty circulated widely, while others criticized his impulsive behavior, arguing that he should have handled the situation with more grace. This episode highlights the often bizarre nature of celebrity culture, where raw emotion can quickly become public fodder.

The juxtaposition of Banderas’s passionate outburst against the backdrop of a prestigious film festival reveals the thin veneer of civility that often masks deeper societal tensions. At the heart of the incident is a discussion about loyalty—both personal and public. For many, loyalty to family, country, or tradition is paramount. Banderas’s outburst may reflect a broader sentiment among those who feel that Harry’s choices undermine these values. The concept of loyalty is complex, particularly in a world where personal happiness and public expectation frequently collide. Critics argue that Harry has turned his back on his family and the institution he was born into, viewing his actions as a betrayal of a longstanding legacy. Supporters, however, believe that true loyalty involves remaining true to oneself, even if it means diverging from tradition.

The reaction from Banderas can be seen as a microcosm of this larger debate, illustrating how public figures grapple with societal expectations. The emotional weight of these expectations can lead to explosive reactions, revealing the vulnerabilities of even the most polished celebrities.

In the days following the encounter, both Banderas and Prince Harry became the focus of discussions about celebrity behavior and accountability. Banderas issued a statement expressing regret for his outburst but maintained his stance on the importance of loyalty. Meanwhile, Prince Harry chose to concentrate on his philanthropic work and mental health advocacy, acknowledging the media frenzy but emphasizing his commitment to his new path and causes.

The fallout from the incident has sparked renewed interest in the lives of both men, prompting discussions about their journeys, struggles, and roles in contemporary society. This startling encounter transcends its immediate context, offering a lens through which to examine broader cultural shifts. It underscores the friction between traditional values and modern perspectives, raising questions about how we define loyalty and the sacrifices individuals make in pursuit of authenticity.

As we continue to follow the lives of both Banderas and Prince Harry, one thing remains clear: in the world of fame, nothing is ever quite as it seems. Every encounter can reveal profound truths about the human condition, reminding us of the complexities of celebrity culture and the personal battles fought behind the scenes.

The late Princess of Wales’ unexpected fashion statement is the focus of a special segment heading to ESPN — and PEOPLE has an exclusive sneak peek

Princess Diana’s wardrobe was full of surprises — like a Philadelphia Eagles varsity jacket!

The late Princess of Wales’ sporty style statement is the subject of discussion in an upcoming feature on ESPN’s Sunday NFL Countdown, airing Sunday around noon ET. In a segment timed to the return of the Philly football team’s throwback Kelly Green uniforms, Princess Diana’s former bodyguard Ken Wharfe speaks for the first time about the significance of the coat in her royal closet. Wharfe served as personal protection officer for Princess Diana and her sons, Prince William and Prince Harry, from 1988 to 1993, during the years Diana was photographed in the jacket on the school run.

“Diana always craved the normalcy. By being a member of the royal family, that was almost impossible. Neither William or Harry, when they were kids, wanted their mother to sort of dress in her finery, take them to school,” Wharfe says. “So all Diana would do is be as casual as possible.”

“And it wasn’t there to impress the people at school. She wanted to be seen as a young mother that was, you know, ‘with it,’ ” he continues of the princess. “Diana loved to be different, this was her style. It sort of showed the public and her children that she was a normal mother in a style that people liked.”

The fashion statement became part of the cultural conversation after a photo of Princess Diana in the green Eagles jacket graced PEOPLE in June 1994. The hands-on mom wore it for a day trip to Alton Towers Theme Park with Prince William and Prince Harry, and Eagles team owner Jeffrey Lurie even had the cover enlarged for his office at Veterans Stadium.

The Story Behind Princess Diana’s Philadelphia Eagles Jacket (It Involves an American Royal!)

While the royal provenance of Princess Diana’s bespoke Eagles coat is well known, its whereabouts today remain a mystery. According to Wharfe, the continued intrigue around why the British princess sported a letterman jacket for an American football team (not parlance for soccer!) would amuse Diana if she were alive today.

“This jacket wasn’t just on a floor of her wardrobe in a palace. If Diana were alive today, she’d be excited to know that this jacket, 25, 30 years on, has now become the subject of very positive public scrutiny. I think that’s fantastic,” Wharfe says.

As the story goes, the Princess of Wales received the jacket from the Eagles’ statistician Jack Edelstein after they connected at the funeral for Princess Grace of Monaco in 1982. Before she became a movie star and married Prince Rainier, Grace Kelly was a Philadelphia native and family friend of Edelstein.

The statistician got to talking with Princess Diana and learned her favorite colors were green and silver — the shades of the Eagles team.

After their meeting, Edelstein promised to send Diana some gear — and came through with a package that included the now-iconic bomber.

“We also sent her a beautiful Eagles jacket, made for her. It was [then-team owner] Leonard Tose’s idea. He never went second-class,” Edelstein later told the Philadelphia Daily News. “She sent me a very nice note, how she’d been wearing them around.”
