“Best birthday surprise , my big boy coming home,” David Beckham captioned the video on Instagram Wednesday.

Brooklyn Beckham just gave dad, David, the sweetest birthday surprise ever.

On Wednesday, Brooklyn – who attends university in New York – showed up for his father’s 43rd birthday celebration in England, and the former soccer star had no idea his oldest son was going to be there.

In the video, shared by both David and wife, Victoria, on Instagram, Brooklyn walks into a restaurant where the Beckham family is enjoying a meal.

“David,” Victoria, 44, says in the background as Brooklyn walks to the family’s table. When David, who turned 43 on May 2, finally sees his 19-year-old son, he gets teary-eyed as he repeatedly asks, “What are you doing here?”

“Are you okay? Happy birthday,” replies Brooklyn as he embraces his dad with a huge hug. “I just landed.”

An overjoyed, David, can’t help but give his son a kiss on the cheek. “I didn’t know you was coming in,” he tells Brooklyn. “I missed you so much.”

Even the couple’s 6-year-old daughter, Harper, had no clue her older brother would be joining them. “I didn’t know Brooklyn was coming,” she says in the background.

“Best birthday surprise, my big boy coming home @brooklynbeckham @victoriabeckham@romeobeckham @cruzbeckham#HarperSeven,” David captioned the video.

Victoria also shared it on social media, writing: “The biggest surprise of the day…. Welcome home @brooklynbeckham X happy birthday @davidbeckham I love u so much x kisses.”

On Tuesday, Victoria kicked off David’s birthday wishes with a family photo.

“Happy birthday to the best daddy!! X we all love u so much!!! So many kisses from us all xxxx we miss u @brooklynbeckham X,” she captioned the snapshot of Beckham surrounded by all of his children— Romeo, 15, Cruz, 13, and Harper — sans his oldest son.

Romeo and Cruz also posted photos of their dad on their Instagram accounts, revealing special moments they captured with their father.

“Happy birthday to the best dad in the world! I hope you have an amazing day love u @davidbeckham” Romeo wrote alongside a photo with his father.

“Happy birthday to the best dad in the world, I love you so much and I hope you have an amazing day @davidbeckham,” Cruz captioned a picture of him and his dad.

And although little Harper doesn’t have her own Instagram account, Victoria shared a sweet moment of the couple’s daughter reading her hand-written birthday card out loud.

“Happy birthday daddy I love u so so much x Kisses from Harper Seven xxxx,” Victoria captioned the post.

Last month, Brooklyn was spotted kissing Playboy model Lexi Wood while at a tattoo parlor in Los Angeles, having fans wondering if he split from on-and-off-again girlfriend Chloë Grace Moretz.

Although Brooklyn has not spoken publicly about allegedly ending his relationship with Moretz, the last time he shared a photo of the 21-year-old on social media was in February, when he wrote that he loved her “to the moon and back.”

Prince William has opened up about the King and Princess of Wales being diagnosed with cancer, describing the year as “the hardest in my life”.

In a searingly honest interview during a solo visit to South Africa, William also spoke of his pride in his father Charles, 74, and his wife Kate, 42, for the bravery they have shown throughout their ordeal. The future king said of his annus horribilis – which is Latin for terrible year: “Honestly? It’s been dreadful. It’s probably been the hardest year in my life.

“So, trying to get through everything else and keep everything on track has been really difficult. But I’m so proud of my wife, I’m proud of my father, for handling the things that they have done. But from a personal family point of view, it’s been brutal.”

William, 42, met inspiring young people from townships who are using sport to lift themselves from poverty, entrepreneurs, environmentalists and the South African president Cyril Ramaphosa. He also joined supermodels Heidi Klum and Winnie Harlow – who presented awards – on a boat tour of the picturesque fishing village of Kalk Bay.

Royal aides said the trip was evidence of William emerging into a new era of statesmanship after being in the role of the Prince of Wales for the last two years since his father became King. There is no doubt William has entered a new phase, from the causes he has taken on to his ambitions for the future.

In the last year he has also launched Homewards, an ambitious five-year project to tackle homelessness. Such projects – and his wife Kate’s crusade to highlight the importance of early years development in children – appear to now be the bedrock of their future.

Asked whether he was enjoying the responsibility and the freedom in his new role, he said: “It’s a tricky one. Do I like more responsibility? No. Do I like the freedom that I can build something like Earthshot, then yes. And that’s the future for me. It’s very important with my role and my platform, that I’m doing something for good.

“That I’m helping people’s lives and I’m doing something that is genuinely meaningful. So, the Earthshot is a culmination if you like all that put together. But it takes a lot of work; meetings, people coming in, a lot of chatting and phone calls, letters, all trying to sort of make the Earthshot get to being the best possible entity it can be.”

William admitted his duties had been a place of solace amid such testing times. Although appearing to be relaxed this week, he said he had struggled with the balance of home and work life. He revealed: “I couldn’t be less relaxed this year. It’s more a case of just crack on and you’ve got to keep going. I enjoy my work and I enjoy pacing myself and keeping sure that I have got time for my family too.”

In Cape Town, William spoke of his love for the country and his desire to bring his children George, 11, ­Charlotte, nine and Louis, five, to Africa with him in the near future. He also revealed he had upset his daughter so much with his recent beard he was forced to take drastic action. William said: “Well Charlotte didn’t like it the first time. I got floods of tears, so I had to shave it off. And then I grew it back. I convinced her it was going to be OK.”

William, who returned home last night, staged the ceremony in a purpose-built reusable eco-dome in Cape Town. It started with an “emotional” live broadcast of The Circle of Life from the Lion King.

Speaking after meeting William, model Heidi said: “He has been so amazing, so welcoming to all of us.” Fellow model Winnie said William’s work reminded her of his late mother Diana. She said: “It was beautiful to see him following in her footsteps.”

Prince William has admitted this “has been the hardest year of my life” as he opens up on his father and wife’s cancer diagnosis for the first time.

In January both the King and the Princess of Wales underwent operations and were subsequently diagnosed with cancer.

While Kate has completed her course of chemotherapy, Charles continues to receive weekly treatment – but continues to busy himself with official duties and public engagements.

Asked how the past 11 months have been for him, William said: “Honestly? It’s been dreadful. It’s probably been the hardest year in my life. So, trying to get through everything else and keep everything on track has been really difficult.”

Speaking in an interview with the UK print media travelling with the Prince on his four-day trip to Cape Town for his Earthshot prize, William said he was incredibly proud of Charles and Kate for how they’ve responded to their diagnosis.

“I’m so proud of my wife, I’m proud of my father, for handling the things that they have done,” he said. “But from a personal family point of view, it’s been, yeah, it’s been brutal.”

William has not publicly spoken about how his wife or his father’s cancer diagnosis has affected him, though in Kate’s most recent statement, she spoke of how hard the period had been for the family.

“The last nine months have been incredibly tough for us as a family,” she said. “Life as you know it can change in an instant and we have had to find a way to navigate the stormy waters and road unknown.”

The princess added: “This time has above all reminded William and me to reflect and be grateful for the simple yet important things in life, which so many of us often take for granted,” she said. “Of simply loving and being loved.”

Some commentators have interpreted William’s new beard as a sign that he is feeling more relaxed now that his wife’s cancer treatment has ended, but this is something he refuted.

He said: “It’s interesting you say that, cause I couldn’t be less relaxed this year, so it’s very interesting you’re all seeing that.

William revealed that his daughter cried when she first saw his beard, prompting him to go back to clean shaven.

Asked if the family like his new look, he said: “Well Charlotte didn’t like it the first time. I got floods of tears, so I had to shave it off.

“And then I grew it back. I thought, hang on a second and I convinced her it was going to be okay.”

William debuted the beard in a video message congratulating Team GB’s athletes at the Paris 2024 Olympics in August but later appeared clean-shaven at church two weeks later.

But as he commenced his autumn schedule of engagements the beard had returned.

In January Kate spent 13 days in hospital following abdominal surgery and two months later she bravely revealed she had been diagnosed with cancer and started a course of chemotherapy.

The princess stepped out for just two public engagements during this time, for Trooping the Colour and the Men’s Wimbledon Singles Final, before revealing in September she had completed her treatment and was “looking forward to being back at work”.

The King was in hospital at the same time as his beloved daughter, for a procedure on an enlarged prostate, during which time his cancer – not affecting his prostate – was discovered.

His diagnosis was announced on February 6 and he postponed all public-facing engagements for several months before easing himself back into royal duties.

Charles continues to undergo treatment, though his recent trip to Australia and Samoa with the Queen has been described as the “perfect tonic” for the 75-year-old.

Elsewhere in the interview, William said last night’s Earthshot Prize Awards Ceremony in the South African capital left him feeling emotional but he is determined to increase the visibility, impact and scale of the environmental award over the next six years.

He called on businesses to “hurry up and be courageous”, telling them: “Invest faster because we just don’t have that time.”

William has been the Prince of Wales for over two years now and asked how he’s finding the new role, he feels conflicted.

“It’s a tricky one,” he said. “Do I like more responsibility? No.

“Do I like the freedom that I can build something like Earthshot then yes.

“And that’s the future for me. It’s very important with my role and my platform, that I’m doing something for good. That I’m helping people’s lives and I’m doing something that is genuinely meaningful.”

British royals aren’t billionaires, say financial experts. The Queen has the largest fortune, but it may not be as much as many people think, according to Insider.

Queen Elizabeth II, who ascended the throne 70 years ago and died at the age of 96 on September 8 (local time), had a net worth of £340 million ( $442.92 million ), The Sunday Times estimated in 2016.

That’s more than any other member of the royal family, including the Duke and Duchess of Sussex — who have a combined fortune of $30 million , according to Insider.

Every year, the royal family receives an amount of money called the Sovereign Grant, which comes from taxpayer funds, according to the BBC .

The basic arrangement is that the royal family is subsidized in exchange for all profits from the Crown Estate being returned to the government. Each year, the ruler is given a sum of money equivalent to 25% of the Crown Estate’s profits.

The Wall Street Journal reported that the sum totaled £82.2 million ( $107.1 million ) in 2019.

According to the royal family’s financial statements, the Sovereign Grant covers the upkeep of the property and utilities, travel for members of the family, and salaries for royal servants. However, The Telegraph notes that this does not include the costs of security and royal ceremonies, as that money comes from a number of other sources.

The ruler’s personal income was called the Privy Purse.

The money comes from the Duchy of Lancaster, or the portfolio of land and other assets that have belonged to the royal family for hundreds of years. It includes £548.6 million ( $715 million ) in net assets (including 40,000 acres of land) and is made up of residential, commercial and agricultural properties, according to The Wall Street Journal.

In 2019, the Duchy of Lancaster brought in £20.7 million ( $27 million ). This money helps pay for expenses not covered by the Sovereign Grant. Specifically, it is used to cover the expenses incurred by members of the royal family.

“I think just knowing each other and getting to calm down and not have those nerves of just getting to know one another really helped that chemistry read,” he said.
