Exclusive: Prince Harry ‘blinded by sour grapes’ as Prince William’s ITV show ‘proves him wrong’

The first part of Prince William’s moving documentary on his mission to help end homelessness has been shown on ITV – and one royal expert believes it would have left Prince Harry eating his words

Prince William’s poignant ITV documentary showed Prince Harry is “blinded by sour grapes” as it proved him wrong, according to a royal expert.

Last night, the first part of the Prince of Waleses’ new show Prince William : We Can End Homelessness was broadcast on TV, exploring the first year of his Homewards initiative, which aims to develop a blueprint for eradicating homelessness in all its forms, “making it rare, brief and unrepeated”.

The documentary showed William mirroring the work of his late mother Princess Diana, who first highlighted the plight of homelessness. He was seen volunteering at homelessness shelter The Passage, convening meetings with charities and landlords and inviting former rough sleeper Wayne to chat with him at Windsor Castle.

Royal expert and historian Dr Tessa Dunlop says the documentary showed William in a whole new light – and not exactly one that was described by his estranged brother Harry. She explained to the Mirror : “Bright blue eyes, open-necked shirt, hands casually crossed on his knee, this was Prince William as we have never seen him before.

“Charming, charismatic and kind, a man on a mission to end homelessness, a prince with the capacity to convince the suits in society and simultaneously get down with the kids.

” ITV ‘s ‘Prince William, Together We Can End Homelessness’ wasn’t just moving television, it reframed the Prince of Wales as a future ‘King of hearts’. In the opening of his memoir Spare, Harry insisted that William with his ‘alarming baldness’ was losing his ‘famous resemblance to Mummy.’ It was fading apparently.

William with his late mother Princess Diana on a visit to homeless shelter The Passage in 1993
William with his late mother Princess Diana on a visit to homeless shelter The Passage in 1993
“The Duke of Sussex, blinded by his own sibling-sour grapes, couldn’t be more wrong. Last night, William channelled Diana. The same big-eyed stare, the same capacity to make the unseen in society feel seen, the same sincerity; as William readily owned, he had ‘taken guidance from what my mother did’.

“As a charity boss casually observed, William isn’t just a celebrity, he is a ‘super celebrity’ and his capacity to work that status was there for all to see. When else would an issue like homelessness get two consecutive slots on prime-time TV?”

“As for questions about the prince owning too many palaces to be a credible homelessness champion – he faced down that accusation by front-lining Windsor Castle mid-documentary to underscore his status as the man who can. Former street sleeper Wayne didn’t care, he just wanted a platform to tell his story.”

Tessa added that the spirit of the late Diana was ever present throughout the first part of the documentary – and she believes that despite his highly privileged position, he is using it in the best possible way.

She explained: “Over-shadowed recently by the King and Kate’s cancer scares, and long considered the less accessible of his sibling duo, last night served to set the record straight. William has got what it takes to deliver a compassionate kingship and simultaneously forefront Diana.

“She was ever present throughout the documentary, William openly admitting that it was thanks to her early influence he understood what went on outside palace walls. From his privileged position, he gets it.

“As he said himself ‘why else would I be here if I am not using this position properly?’ Why indeed? I shed a tear, and surely I can’t have been the only one. Let’s face it, compared with those sleeping on the streets, we all live like princes. It’s ironic that it took a real prince to make that point.”

  • Loose Women’s Denise Welch fumes over rapist athlete competing in 2024 Olympic Games

Loose Women’s Denise Welch fumes over rapist athlete competing in 2024 Olympic Games

Charlotte Dujardin has come under fire after footage showed her whipping a horse during a training session – but for Denise Welch, another Olympic athlete deserves just as much criticism

Denise Welch was frustrated that Steven van de Velde received close to no backlash for raping a 12-year-old after Charlotte Dujardin’s own actions caused her to be suspended.

The British dressage star, 39, was forced to pull out of the 2024 Olympic Games when footage showed her repeatedly whipping the back of a horse’s legs and she was suspended by the equestrian governing body, the FEI.

But as the dressage rider remains under fire for what she has described as “an error of judgement”, Loose Women panellist Denise Welch was seething to know that Steven van de Velde had been selected to represent the Netherlands in beach volleyball despite his rape conviction.

When discussing Charlotte Dujardin with co-stars Judi Love, Mariella Frostrup and Coleen Nolan, Denise seethed: “The headlines all over the papers this week, and on television this morning, it’s about the cruelty to this horse and I completely understand that.” Before she moved on to Steven van de Velde.

“He’s representing the Netherlands in beach volleyball”, the former Coronation Street actress explained. “He is an accused rapist and he has been imprisoned. He was 18, 19 years old when he knew that this girl was 12. He raped this girl and he admitted to it.”

She then continued to summarise the situation in a dismayed tone: “He was given a four-year sentence f which he served a year and he has been supported by the board at the Olympics and they are saying: ‘we’ve got everything in place, he’s not allowed to mix with anyone’.”

Denise was then clearly livid as she added: “We’re talking about violence against women and we’re making headlines of this equestrian situation, which is serious, but nobody seems to be talking, front page wise, about what’s going on.”

Steven van de Velde was found guilty of raping the girl at an address in Milton Keynes ten years ago. Having become acquainted with her on Facebook, the then 19-year-old travelled to the UK and police were alerted to the rape after his victim sought the morning after pill at a family planning clinic.

He was given a four-year sentence at Aylesbury Crown Court in 2016 after pleading guilty to three counts of rape and served a year in a Netherlands jail before his release.

Dutch Olympic chiefs say that Van de Velde has “sought and received professional counselling [and] demonstrated to those around him – privately and professionally – self-insight and reflection.”

Eamonn Holmes, who has since gone on to join rival GB News, took aim at former This Morning colleague Phillip Schofield, claiming that he is ‘renowned for snubbing people’

Eamonn Holmes has let rip at his former ITV bosses over his axing on This Morning, branding them “sly” and “hypocritical”.

The 62-year-old, who has since gone on to join rival GB News, also took aim at ex-colleague Phillip Schofield, claiming that he is “renowned for snubbing people”.

Eamonn had presented on Fridays and during half-terms alongside wife Ruth Langsford for 15 years to cover for main hosts Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield.

However, it was revealed in November 2020 that the couple would be dropped from their usual slot and replaced by Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary.

The couple were rumoured to have been “hurt” by the change at the time and now Eamonn has suggested that ITV bosses wanted to make it look like he had walked away from the role.

Speaking to the Daily Mail’s Weekend magazine, he said that “no one explained anything” to him, adding: “They’re sly. They didn’t want to announce that I’d been dropped because it would adversely affect audience figures, so they made it look as if I’d walked away from them rather than the other way round.”

He went on to claim that bosses had had a chat with his agent and announced that he was going to GB News – despite the channel at the time only asking if he was interested in enjoying.

Strictly star devastated not to call Robin Windsor before tragic death

Professional dancer Pasha Kovalev made a heartbreaking confession while appearing on Loose Women as he admitted he wished he had called Robin Windsor before his death aged 44

Strictly Come Dancing star Pasha Kovalev has heartbreakingly opened up on his friendship with the late Robin Windsor.

The professional dancer, 44, appeared on Loose Women to discuss his close friend. Robin’s death at the age of 44 was announced in February this year. Ballroom & Latin dance company Burn The Floor, of which Robin was a founding member, announced the sad news in the early hours of the morning on Tuesday 20th February.

He was paired with a host of celebrities when he appeared as a professional dancer on the BBC competition from 2010 to 2013, including Dragons’ Den star Deborah Meaden and Lisa Riley. Speaking of his friend, Pasha said: “I think everyone loved Robin, anyone who ever met him loved him. He was a big sweetheart and he was helping anyone and everyone. I met Robin a long time ago, we were on the same production touring the world. Then we were reunited on Strictly. We did a lot of dances together.”

He then reflected on Robin’s death as he shared a devastating regret. Pasha said: “The news of his passing came as a huge shock to me and to all of his friends. When you hear about something like that, as a friend you start thinking ‘could I have done something more? Could I have spent extra time seeing him, talking to him, send extra message?’ Because of that, I think my first instinct was I wanted to cherish the time I had with Robin. Get all the friends together and speak about the good days and all that he loved.”

Strictly stars are set to come together to remember Robin later this year in a special show. Robin’s family shared a heartbreaking tribute to the Strictly star following his death. A statement shared with The Mirror read: “We would like to thank everyone for the outpouring of love and celebration of our beloved Robin. While we understand that there is a huge public and media interest around his passing, we as a family need time to process our shock and grief. We ask for the needs of our family and friends to be taken into consideration and for our privacy to be respected at this difficult time.”

Professional dancer Gorka Marquez previously shared plans to remember Robin while making an appearance on Loose Women. Gorka told the show: “I think we are a family and the loss of Robin who was part of that family… he was just a wonderful person. He was always smiling. I have memories of him smiling when it comes to the show, it was positive things for all of us. The least we can do is celebrate him because wherever he is up there, he will be dancing with us.”

Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford’s feud with Phillip Schofield appeared to have been reignited at the weekend after Eamonn branded the presenter ‘passive-aggressive’

This Morning fans were left raising their eyebrows today as Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford were noticeably absent from Phillip Schofield’s work anniversary celebrations today.

It comes after their feud with Phil appeared to have been reignited at the weekend after Eamonn branded the presenter “passive-aggressive”.

One wrote: “#Lorraine still no Eamonn and/or Ruth…”

While another joked: “They obviously ran out of time for the glowing tribute from Eamonn and Ruth.”

Loose Women’s Charlene upset Brenda Edwards ‘didn’t get chance’ to announce son’s death

Loose Women panellist Charlene White was upset that her friend Brenda Edwards wasn’t given the chance to announce son Jamal’s death after he passed away at the age of 31

Loose Women’s Charlene White feels upset that Brenda Edwards wasn’t given the chance to announce son Jamal Edwards’ death.

The panellists – Charlene White, Judi Love, Linda Robson, Carol McGiffin and Frankie Bridge – appeared on the ITV daytime show today to pay tribute to Jamal, who had appeared on the show just a few months ago with his proud mum Brenda.

The news of Jamal’s sad death after a sudden illness was broke on social media last night and whilst Charlene understands that a lot of his success comes from social media and online, Charlene admits she was disappointed Brenda didn’t get the chance to announce the news herself, before she read out a statement that Brenda made earlier today.

Speaking on the ITV lunchtime show today, Charlene said: “The opportunity to share Brenda’s loss and the family’s loss, that was taken away from Brenda because of various people on social media who decided to tell Brenda’s story and to tell Jamal’s story without consulting Brenda, which was not fair in any shape of form.”

“We understand that a lot of Jamal’s incredible work was done through social media and done online and all those things. He was a powerhouse, he changed the UK music scene,” she added.

Charlene went on to pay tribute to Jamal’s incredible work in music – for which he received an MBE in 2015.

“But what people have to understand that there is work life and there’s family life and there’s home life and it should have been Brenda who was able to choose when the world got to know about his death.”

Some viewers took to Twitter to criticise those on social media for breaking the news first.

“No family should have their hand forced into confirming the passing of a loved one just because insensitive creatures want to do “hear it here first”. Honestly praying Brenda & her family get all the privacy they deserve moving forward #LooseWomen,” one wrote.

One penned: “Thank you #loosewomen for showing the humanity in grief and for honouring Brenda in the sad loss of her beloved Jamal,” as a second added: “Beautiful tribute on #loosewomen today. My heart goes out to Brenda, his sister and their Family.”

Brenda shared a heartfelt statement earlier today to confirm the tragic news.

“It is with the deepest heartache that I confirm that my beautiful son Jamal Edwards passed away yesterday morning after a sudden illness. Myself, his sister Tanish and the rest of his family and friends are completely devastated,” she said.

Elsewhere on the show, Linda Robson paid tribute to Jamal for taking her son under his wing.

“Jamal kept in touch with Louis over the years and took him under his wing. Took him to the BRITs, took him out socially with him as well. Brenda did such a good job with her son because he was a proper gentleman, he really was. He was the loveliest boy,” she said.

“Such an emotional @loosewomen today. Well done to you five ladies on the panel today paying tribute to Brenda’s son. This song at the end #loosewomen #RIPJamalEdwards,” one shared.

Another added: ” #loosewomen has me in bits today. Such a moving moment to have a clip of @brenda_edwards singing at the end. RIP @jamaledwards. Achieved so much but gone way too soon. Well done to all for a wonderful tribute show today.”

During the show, host Charlene admitted she was upset that Brenda wasn’t able to share the news her way, as she said: “The opportunity to share Brenda’s loss and the family’s loss, that was taken away from Brenda because of various people on social media who decided to tell Brenda’s story and to tell Jamal’s story without consulting Brenda, which was not fair in any shape of form.”

Meanwhile, Linda Robson also revealed Jamal took her son under his wing and helped him fulfil his music dreams.

Loose Women clash over cheating as Janet brands co-stars ‘moralising witches’

Loose Women’s Janet Street-Porter had been joined by Charlene White, Linda Robson and Kelle Bryan as they discussed Coronation Street’s cheating storyline

Loose Women’s panelists ended up clashing today over the controversial topic of cheating, with Janet Street-Porter going head to head with her co-stars and branding them “moralising witches”.

Janet had been joined by Charlene White, Linda Robson and Kelle Bryan as they discussed Sally Metcalfe discovering that Abi Franklin cheated on her husband (and Sally’s ex) Kevin Webster.

The panel had been asked whether, if they were in Sally’s shoes, they would expose their friend’s cheating.

“What I’d say [is] if that hadn’t happened and you’d had a one night stand, I don’t think you should have any guilt attached whatsoever,” Janet declared. “That doesn’t really count.”

Charlene probed: “Even if you’re married?”

Shrugging, Janet said: “Well, yeah. If it’s a one night stand and you’re not going to do it with that person again, don’t beat yourself up about it.”

Linda shook her head over the remarks as Kelle looked vaguely disgusted.

Kelle exclaimed: “Janet! What’s the point in getting married?!”

    Linda insisted: “Cheating is cheating!”

As Kelle parroted Linda’s remark, Janet groaned as she said: “Oh! Listen to this line-up of moralising witches!”

Gasping, Charlene reprimanded: “Janet! We’re kind to each other on this programme, we don’t call each other witches!”

“Oh, well is ‘witches’ another cancelled word?” Janet asked. “Sorry everyone at home because I called them witches, they’re wonderful women I just don’t agree with them.”

Charlene rolled her eyes as Janet continued: “A friend of mine whose husband I knew incredibly well told me that he was boring and I had gone out with him myself so I knew that he was boring in the end. She told me that when they were married that she was thinking of having an affair with another bloke and I went, ‘Just do it, I don’t think it matters because if he doesn’t know it doesn’t matter.”

“Kelle, I admire what you’ve said,” Janet said. “But nevertheless, in the reality of life in Britain today, 40% of marriages end in divorce.”

    “Noted,” Kelle replied.

Charlene asked: “So is the answer having a load of one night stands, then?”

“It’s not ‘having a load’, but if you’re in an unhappy marriage, if your husband is taking you for granted and if you should – as luck would have it – stray on the other side of the fence or have a bit of fun and it’s perked you up, made you feel good, made you feel prepared to put up with the situation you find yourself in on a day-to-day basis, what harm is done?”
