BBC Children in Need viewers say the same thing minutes into show

On Friday night, BBC viewers tuned in for the annual Children in Need extravaganza where large funds were being raised to help kids across the country.

This year, BBC viewers saw Ade Adepitan, Mel Giedroyc, Rochelle Humes, Vernon Kay, Chris Ramsey, and Lenny Rush take to the stage to present this year’s Children in Need.

The 2024 hosts were on hand to oversee the three-hour special, which promised hilarious comedy sketches and star-studded performances.

In a first for Children in Need, BBC viewers will see TV sensation Bluey will be transported into the glitz and glam of the Strictly Come Dancing World.

However, viewers quickly took to Twitter to share their thoughts on the show, with many unimpressed with the number of presenters on stage.

One person said: “I love them all but surely they only need two hosts at the most?!”

Someone else commented: “6 presenters. Really???? #childreninneed”

“Haven’t watched #childreninneed for years … turned it on, and why on earth are there 6 presenters! Just carnage and only 7 minutes in,” wrote another.

However, some were left confused over the three-hour slot as some viewers highlighted the time change over the years.

One person said: “Does anyone remember when shows such as #ChildrenInNeed used to go on until 1am?”

Someone else tweeted: “Why are there so many hosts though? I get having that many when Children In Need went on until like 2am like the old days but now? There are only 3 hours you only need like 3 or 4 of them #childreninneed” (sic)

One viewer was thrilled with the presenters, commenting: “Glad Rochelle and Vernon are hosting.”

With another adding: “Lenny is so savage and I love him! He is just so funny.”

People were less then impressed with how many presenters were on stage

However, this marks Mel Giedroyc’s eighth year hosting the show, and she spoke about returning once again. She commented: “It’s one of my very favourite “work” nights of the year.

“If you can call it work! It’s the incredible feeling in the studio in Salford of everybody coming together for this brilliant life-affirming reason – hearing from kids and watching their stories. That’s what it is all about. I think it brings out the very best of us all.”

It’s not just Mel who spoke fondly about hosting the show, as BBC star Vernon Kay detailed his special connection.

He commented: “BBC Children in Need has always been a big deal in our house, as you’ll know Tess presented for years alongside Sir Terry, so it’s a really big deal for me to be a part of it.

“There’s the emotional element of being part of something that’s doing so much good, but also the practical (terrifying!) element that it’s a massive production and millions of people will be tuning in.

“I’m going to be wearing my lucky underpants on the night, that’s for sure, and I’ll be tapping Tess up for some tips in these next few weeks.”

  • Denise Welch returning to Waterloo Road as fan favourite French teacher Steph Haydock

Denise Welch returning to Waterloo Road as fan favourite French teacher Steph Haydock

Loose Women star Denise Welch is set to make a triumphant return to the BBC’s high school drama Waterloo Road where she will reprise her role as French teacher Steph Haydock

Denise Welch is going back to school – as the French teacher at Waterloo Road Comprehensive School.

The 66-year-old Loose Women star appeared on the hit BBC series from 2006 to 2010 playing lingual expert Steph Haydock. The series was pulled off the air in 2015 after the conclusion of the 10th season of the show. But it was then revived in 2023.

The creators of the show are preparing to make the 15th season of the show after the 2024 season reached a climax last month. And fans can expect to see Denise back in character and in the classrooms of the smash show.

Denise – who only appeared in the first six seasons of Waterloo Road during its original run – has acted in other soaps in the past. She played Natalie Barnes in Coronation Street from 1997 to 2000 and she has previously explained that she considers herself something of a pioneer in the performing arts as she’s been able to work both as an actress and a lunchtime talk show star.

Of her return to Waterloo Road, a source told The Sun: “Waterloo Road fans love a comeback, particularly when it is someone of Denise’s calibre. The character is certainly one which will live long in the memory of devotees, and it’s an absolute no brainer to have her return.” The Mirror has contacted representatives of Denise and the BBC for comment.

Denise previously told OX Magazine that she hated that people wouldn’t take her seriously as an actress because her career as a Loose Women star had overshadowed her acting. She said: “It’s very difficult in this country to be taken seriously in more than one genre; I’ve tried to cross those boundaries over. I remember Eamonn Holmes saying, ‘I can’t think of another person that’s doing an acting job and a presenting job on telly at the same time.’ That stuck with me, I felt there was a little breakthrough there.”

She also explained that she has been landing bigger parts since she entered her 50s – after being dismissed for roles in her youth. She said: “[I prefer roles] where you come on in Act Two as the maid and steal the show. That’s how I always was in my younger days; I always wanted to play the character roles I was too young for. So yes, there is that.”

Denise has been a panellist on Loose Women for decades – but previously admitted she will quit the minute she finds the show too stressful to deal with. She told Bella magazine last year: “In the 21 years I’ve done this show, I have never, ever. ever had an actual argument with anybody on that show. I can go hammer and tongs with them on set, but nothing afterwards, if it was a toxic environment, I wouldn’t work there. I don’t need to. I’m 65, I don’t need the stress…. I’d be out like a shot if I felt anxiety about going into a job,” and then insisting that the workplace – which has been rocked by rumours of backstage bitching in the past – is “very supportive”

And it was one surprise in particular that left her breaking down in tears as her husband, Mark Adderley, and eldest daughter Maddie, 21, shared heartfelt messages to her which were played on air.

In her daughter’s message, she said: “I love you so much and I just want you to know how grateful I am to have somebody like you in my life, let alone as my mother. I am so thankful for all the hugs, all the advice, all the times that you’ve been there for me and supported me. All the times you’ve told me the truth even when I’ve been not wanting to hear it.

Nadia was left wiping tears after the message to which co-star Kaye Adams joked: “We knew we’d get you to cry at the end!” Talking about the sweet videos, Nadia said: “That was really beautiful, thank you! There’s no better present is there in the world.

“Maddie, she was born on Christmas Day, so no Christmas present will ever be better than that! To hear that, with all the worries we have as parents, that is very beautiful.”

Taking to Twitter, now X, viewers couldn’t believe Nadia was turning 60 due to her age-defying looks. One person said: “I refuse to believe Nadia Sawalha is 60. “Princess Diana might have survived the accident if it weren’t for that person…” — The sole surviving bodyguard has regained his memory, exposing a truth that brings the entire nation to tears.

After 27 years, the sole survivor of the car crash that claimed Princess Diana’s life has reportedly regained his memory, offering a startling revelation about the fateful night in Paris. Trevor Rees-Jones, Diana’s former bodyguard, who was severely injured in the accident, recently shared new insights into what he remembers. Rees-Jones, who had previously been unable to recall key details due to his injuries, now reveals that Diana could have survived the crash, but an unexpected event tragically changed everything.

In a candid recounting, Rees-Jones expressed his sorrow, explaining that under normal circumstances, Diana and the others in the car would have been safe. However, according to his recovered memory, an unforeseen occurrence led to a critical shift in their situation, making survival impossible. He did not go into full detail but hinted at complications that arose in the seconds before the crash. Rees-Jones’s testimony has stirred renewed interest in the events leading to Diana’s untimely death, with many now questioning if more could have been done to prevent it.

For years, theories have swirled around the accident, with some pointing to unusual behavior by the paparazzi or even hinting at more elaborate plots. However, Rees-Jones’s statements are now casting a different light, suggesting that Diana’s death may have been a tragic outcome of missteps or unexpected factors on the part of those present. The world remembers Diana as the “People’s Princess,” whose warmth and humanitarian efforts touched millions. Her sudden death left a deep impact, and the mystery around the crash has fueled speculation ever since.

Rees-Jones’s recollection, emerging after years of silence, has ignited fresh calls for transparency and justice. Families of the victims, as well as Diana’s supporters, have long sought to understand the true circumstances of her death. While Rees-Jones’s memory recovery might provide a piece of the puzzle, he emphasizes that he is not certain of every detail and that others involved may still hold answers.

For those who admired Diana, the news of Rees-Jones’s regained memory is bittersweet. It rekindles the grief of her loss while raising hope for closure in the future. As new questions arise, Diana’s legacy as a beloved public figure remains strong, with many continuing to remember her contributions to causes and her lasting impact on the world.

Alan Shearer urges David Beckham to make big Birmingham City decision

Former England and Newcastle striker Alan Shearer has hailed David Beckham’s impact on football and admitted it would be “huge” if the global icon invested in an English club

Alan Shearer has shared his thoughts on the impact of David Beckham investing in English football, similar to what he’s achieved with Inter Miami.

Speaking on the influence Beckham could have, Shearer said in a recent Betfair chat: “We’ve seen what David Beckham has done with Inter Miami, bringing Lionel Messi to the club, and what that has done for soccer over in America.”

He added: “When you put Messi together with the brand David Beckham has, then it is huge for football, and it would be huge for an English side if Beckham were to invest here too.”

Shearer also highlighted the generous glow the EFL has received from star-studded ownerships such as Wrexham’s celebrity duo Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney. The former England captain stated: “When you’ve got high-profile owners who are determined to make a statement, and when you look at what Birmingham and Tom Wagner have spent, and where Wrexham have come from to where they are now, they’re both great stories.”

He further noted: “You’re getting Beckham sitting next to Tom Brady, with Rob McElhenney also in Birmingham on the same night, and the pictures of the three of them have been beamed all over the world, so it’s great for the EFL.”

Beckham indeed sprinkled some star quality onto the English game when he was spotted at the Blues vs Wrexham match alongside NFL icon Brady.

Shearer is all praise for the thriving EFL scene and particularly admires Wayne Rooney’s bold decision to step in as manager of Plymouth Argyle. Reflecting on a recent victory, he said: “I saw the reaction from Wayne Rooney and his coaching staff on the touchline when Plymouth got their winning goal vs Sunderland at the weekend. I was delighted for him because I was sat watching the scores come through for Match of the Day, and I’d seen Sunderland get it back to 2-2, but then the winning goal came so late on that you knew Plymouth had just won it.”

Continuing to express his support for Rooney, Shearer added: “I’m pleased for Wayne because he’s shown some courage to go down to Plymouth and take that job on, and I really hope he can be a success. You saw what it meant to him and his coaching staff when the goal went in, and they were able to win the game against a team that had won their previous four games.

“It was a big result for Plymouth, and I hope they can take a lot from that. I’m really impressed with how Wayne wants to stay in football. He had his time at Derby, Birmingham and went back over to DC United as well. It takes a lot of courage. He loves coaching, managing and, because of his status as a player, it’d have been easy for him to sit back and do the job I’m doing in TV.”

On Rooney’s commitment to management over broadcasting opportunities, Shearer remarked: “I’m sure he’d have had plenty of opportunities to do so. However, he still wants to go and get his hands dirty on the touchline. It’s not an easy job to go all the way down to Plymouth, leave the family once again, so I admire him for doing it.”

Breaking News: The first responder at the scene, who carried Princess Diana from the car, recounts heartbreakingly: “I couldn’t bear to look at her face…”

The first responder at the scene of Princess Diana’s tragic accident recently shared his haunting memories of that night, recounting the moments he arrived to try and save her. Speaking for the first time in years, he described the overwhelming horror he felt, saying, “I couldn’t bring myself to look at her face.” His words convey the emotional weight of being one of the first to witness the aftermath of a tragedy that would soon rock the world.

The rescuer, who was part of the emergency team on August 31, 1997, described arriving to a chaotic scene under the Alma Bridge in Paris. The wrecked car, paparazzi flashing cameras, and the silence from inside the vehicle all set a grim stage. Despite the intense training and experience he had as a first responder, he found himself deeply shaken upon realizing who was inside the car.

He admitted that he initially hesitated, overwhelmed by the gravity of the situation. “It’s not something you prepare for,” he explained. “Knowing who she was, the responsibility of trying to save her life—it was nearly paralyzing.” While he worked to stabilize her, he couldn’t bring himself to look directly at her, fearing that the sight would stay with him forever. He focused solely on his duty, hoping his efforts would make a difference.

Over the years, he has carried the memory of that night, feeling the weight of both his professional role and the global significance of Diana’s passing. He shared that the night’s trauma lingered long after the accident, as he realized he had witnessed the final moments of one of the world’s most beloved figures. For him, the tragedy was a personal loss, not only because of her fame but because he, like millions of others, admired Diana’s humanitarian work and kindness.

The retelling of his experience has brought renewed sympathy and respect for those who were there that night, shouldering the responsibility of Diana’s final moments. As the world reflects on this new insight, the legacy of Princess Diana lives on, her memory kept alive by those who tried desperately to save her and the millions who continue to remember her with love and admiration.

Loose Women’s Janet Street-Porter ‘sick with jealousy’ as Denise Welch announces career milestone

Loose Women’s Janet Street-Porter admitted she was ‘sick with jealousy’ on Wednesday’s show as co-star Denise Welch revealed an exciting career milestone

Janet Street-Porter admitted she was ‘sick with jealousy’ as Denise Welch made an exciting announcement on Wednesday’s Loose Women.

During the latest instalment, Denise, 66, revealed that she would be appearing in an upcoming episode of Emmerdale, which means she has now appeared in all four of the soaps.

Soap watchers will recall that Denise played Natalie Barnes in Corrie from 1997 to 2000, Alison Slater in EastEnders in 2016, Trish Minniver in Hollyoaks from 2021 to 2022 and now a character called Heidi in an upcoming Emmerdale episode.

Denise’s co-stars were left delighted over her milestone with host Ruth Langsford even handing her a mini trophy. However, one person who wasn’t impressed was Janet, 77, who admitted she was ‘sick with jealousy’.

Ruth joked: “You should have seen Janet’s face, she was like this!” as she mimicked her co-star to which Janet responded with all the soaps she has been in, revealing she has had roles in Neighbours, Hollyoaks and Benidorm, as well as attempting to land a part in Casualty.

However, Denise quickly pointed out: “Benidorm is not a soap! A soap is a continuing drama not if it’s a different series” to which a fiery Janet replied: “Oh you nitpicker, you nitpicker!” Getting the final word in Denise quipped: “I’ve also been in Benidorm so there you go!”

Defusing the situation, Ruth joked: “This is like soaps Top Trumps!” to which Denise pointed out: “Janet’s not even an actress so why would she want to be in them?”

Elsewhere, Denise teased her upcoming Emmerdale role, saying: “I’m going to be in Emmerdale but, I say but, it’s not a but – but it’s a one-off hour-long special.

“It’s the first time Emmerdale have ever done it, for those of you who are fans of Emmerdale, there has been a very powerful year-long story of domestic abuse which of course appealed to me when I knew I’d be part of it because of our Facing It Together campaign.

“This is the culmination of that story so the episode takes place exclusively between the court and the jury. I am one of the heads of the jury, called Heidi, obviously I can’t say what the outcome is but it’s a very powerful episode and some of the lines are taken from true cases.

“Refuge have seen it and they’re thrilled with how it’s being depicted! It was incredible to be a part of it”, adding that the episode will air later in December.

Exclusive: Vanessa Feltz won’t ‘settle’ as she finds dream young man – ‘She wants to feel desired’

Vanessa Feltz has been through a lot when it comes to relationships, but it looks like the former TalkTV star is ready to find love once again – but with a much younger man

Vanessa Feltz’s life has been quite the whirlwind recently. After ending her 16-year relationship with Ben Ofoedu following allegations of his infidelity, and even confessing to jumping out of a moving car during their confrontation, it seems the TV presenter is ready to love again – but this time, she’s setting her sights on a younger man.

A source told OK! that Vanessa, who is known for her youthful spirit and playful nature, is ideally looking for a younger partner. They shared: “Vanessa is ideally looking for a younger man, she’s young at heart and loves to joke around and be playful so she finds more of that with younger guys. She knows she’s getting older but still wants a fun relationship and to feel desired rather than just settling down, so she’d love to find the perfect man who is a bit younger.”

Dave Benett/Getty Images)The 62 year old star isn’t new to dating younger men – she reportedly dated 33 year old model Stefan-Pierre Tomlin earlier this year and was previously engaged to Phats and Small singer Ben, 52. Vanessa herself admitted that “older men are no longer intriguing” and candidly explained why she’s lost interest in them, bluntly stating that men “aren’t fanciable past 55”.

She told You Magazine: “In general, chaps fall off the fanciable precipice the minute they sail north of 55.Vanessa further opened up, saying: “Pre-55, males are still convincing pistol-packers. After that point, they shrivel physically, intellectually and spiritually.”

The star then discussed what older women seek in their sex lives, such as ‘trying new things’, and pointed out the common ground between her age group and younger men—’enthusiasm’. Despite heartbreaks, including spending 635 of the last 636 nights alone after her split from her ex, nicknamed ‘One Hit Wonder’, and a painful divorce from the father of her children and orthopaedic surgeon Michael Krurer, who insulted her before leaving, Vanessa hasn’t lost faith in love, though she’s done with “wannabes”.

Speaking to OK!, she conveyed her hope: “I hope one day Cupid will pierce me with his arrow and I will find true love again. However, I’m not prepared to settle. My last relationship has put me off dating a wannabe. I’ve had enough of being somebody’s access-all-areas lanyard.”

Moreover, a source has also shared that her quest for love has always been a passionate journey, but she’s committed to finding ‘the one’. They said: “Vanessa is always looking for love, but she knows this time it needs to be the right one because she has been burnt in the past and the whole situation with Ben did really hurt her. She’s still out all the time and is hoping Mr. Right is out there – even better if he’s a toy boy.”

    Ruth Langsford on Loose Women
Vanessa is supporting her friend Ruth Langsford
    Image:
ITV)Meanwhile, Vanessa’s longtime pal Ruth Langsford could benefit from this hard-earned insight, following her own recent split. Back in July, it was publicly declared: “Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes have confirmed their marriage is over and they are in the process of divorcing.”

This former TV couple first got together back in 1997 and had their son Jack in 2002. Fast forward to 2010 and the scene was set at Cheltenham Races where Eamonn popped the question, having previously asked Ruth’s mother for her blessing, leading to their wedding within the year. But times change, and 64 year old Eamonn is now getting cosy with his new partner Katie Alexander, spotted post-cruise in the Med earlier this year.

Our source explained that Ruth Langsford, who’s a familiar face on This Morning, isn’t quite ready to jump back into the dating scene despite what her close pal Vanessa might hope. The source says: “Ruth is still taking time for herself and Vanessa knows that, she’s not in a place to be dating again and things aren’t there so she hasn’t been persuading her.”

However, ‘glam-ma’ Vanessa, adored by grandchildren Zekey, Neroli, AJ and Cecily, has mentioned that she’s been a pillar of support for Ruth post-split. She said: “I completely respect her desire, quite rightly, to keep this as, you know, from her perspective, dignified, quiet, you know, and just deal with it, yeah, on her own, privately. So, of course, she’s my actual friend in real life. I’ve been in contact, but I certainly respect her, and admire her dignity, and her silence over this, and that’s really all I want to say about it.”

There I am pretending to be someone else and delivering lines that are written for me. This is a very different thing. I will miss work too. It’s such a huge part of my life and I have been there for such a long time. I work with my best friends.”

Best & worst attributes: “My sense of humour and I hope to have a laugh in camp. Worst? Sleeping is going to be interesting. I have problems sleeping and it has to be pitch black and deadly quiet – now that is not going to happen!”

    Name: Jane Moore

    ITV)Age: 62

Famous for: Loose Women star and journalist

Phobias: I’m not sure how I will feel when faced with Australian creepy crawlies, as they are so much bigger and I’m not fond of cold water either – so any of the water Trials I would not really want to do.

On entering the jungle: “I’m apprehensive about being away from home, being isolated and away from my phone and laptop – but actually, this is also the very thing I am looking forward to. I have never done a reality show before and I’ve always said when we talk about these things on Loose Women that this programme would be the one. I like an adventure and it appeals to me.”

Best & worst attributes: “I am very organised and so if anything needs organising, I’m your girl. I will also try to fill the long hours with lots of conversation. My worst? I get up at least twice in the night to go to the toilet, as I am a woman of a certain age. I will try to be quiet!”

    Name: Tulisa Contostavlos

    Age: 36

Famous for: N-Dubz Singer and former X factor judge

Phobias: I am not going to give too much away by telling people what to vote for, but I will be scared of a lot of stuff!

On entering the jungle: “I will probably struggle in the first few days as doing something like this is a big deal for me. I haven’t been thrust this much into the spotlight in a while and I have avoided it out of irrational fear.”

She added: “My friends who I have told are really excited. They feel it will be good for people to see the person I am – and not the perception. They are two very different people and they are excited. I just want to be in a place now where I live authentically.”

Best & worst attributes: “I am a good communicator and I’m aware of other people’s emotions. Worst? My eating habits. I am really OCD with my food so if something comes on a bone, I have to pick it all off first before I eat it. They will be waiting for me to finish so whoever wants to do the dishes, I will still be sitting there two hours later with the same little bowl!”

Famous for: TV presenter and radio DJ

Phobias: I really hate insects and creepy crawlies.

On entering the jungle: “I can become a different person if I haven’t eaten enough – I am Moody Melvin! It’s very rare (this happens), but I will try my best to do all the Trials.”

Best & worst attributes: “I’m a very positive guy in every situation. My worst? I snore loudly and I’ve been trying to train myself not to do it before I go into the camp.”

    Name: Coleen Rooney

It’s finally been confirmed that Coleen will be entering the jungle
    Image:
    ITV)
    Age: 38

Famous for: Wagatha Christie court case and wife of Wayne

Phobias: I don’t think I have got any phobias. Then again, I could say, ‘Oh I’m not scared of heights and then get up on a high building and the panic sets in!

On entering the jungle: “Of course it would be lovely to win. But if I don’t, then I will get to see the kids! Whatever I do in life, I like to put my all into it and so if I am going in there, it would be nice to stay until the end. Why would I go in there and then want to come out after week one? I want to go as far as I can but perhaps more importantly I have spoken with others who have taken part and they have all said that it was an experience that was a once in a lifetime opportunity and will probably never come again so wanted to get the most out of it, so I am excited to be a part of it”

She added: “I am really looking forward to I’m A Celebrity now and I hope I can make my family proud – no pressure!”

Best & worst attributes: “I am quite a focused person and so I hope I will be someone who says, ‘Come on, let’s battle through this’. My worst? I didn’t think I snored, but Wayne says I snore – not continuously though – just every now and again!”

    Name: Barry McGuigan

    Barry McGuigan
Barry admitted he’s a little “irritable”

    ITV)
    Age: 63

    Famous for: Former boxing champion

Phobias: I don’t exactly enjoy hanging out with rats and snakes and spiders… but I don’t have a phobia of any of them.

On entering the jungle: “Once you’ve made the decision to get into I’m A Celebrity, you have to be willing to do everything. It might be disgusting and you might be tired, but being a fighter and being dedicated and committed to training and getting ready for fights… you have to go through hell, physically as well as psychologically. So, I know what I’m letting myself in for.”

Best & worst attributes: “I’m determined. But maybe as I’m getting older I’m getting more irritable. It’s just a natural thing, an age thing. I’m more irritable than I was 30 / 40 years ago, put it that way.”

    Name: GK Barry

    Age: 25

Famous for: Podcaster and content creator

Phobias: I am terrified of everything!

On entering the jungle: “I did once sleep in a tent in the garden, but I went in after a few hours as it wasn’t very fun.

“I am imagining this as a retreat. I can’t wait to not have to be on social media and I think the small food portions in camp will be fine too.”

Best & worst attributes: “Making light of a negative situation. I am a good person if you are upset. My worst? I snore and to be honest, I can be lazy at times. But yes, I do know I am going to have to do some chores!”

    Age: 38

Famous for: Musician with McFly and won The Masked Singer

Phobias: I’ve tried to forget all of my phobias. I’ve never been put in a situation like this before. I’m hoping that I don’t come home with new phobias…

On entering the jungle: “I’m looking forward to the evening when someone’s come back with all of the stars – or I’ve come back with all of the stars – and everyone’s championing you saying, ‘Yes, come on’. The sun has set, the fire’s on, you’ve eaten and you’ve got that little high from your food. I’m looking forward to those evenings.”

Best & worst attributes: “I can kind of cook. So I’ll bring a bit of that. Apart from that I’ll just be the silly billy in the corner having a good time.”

    Name: Dean McCullough

    Age: 38

    Famous for: Radio 1 DJ

Phobias: I am terrified of everything – snakes, green flies, being suspended off a cliff – it’s all torturous. Don’t tell Ant & Dec but I don’t like being confined in tight spaces either!

On entering the jungle: “I am a Cancerian and I don’t shy away from emotion,” explains Dean. “I am happy to have some deep and meaningfuls and share parts of my life I haven’t shared before – how I got to Radio 1, my coming out experience and things people don’t know about me. If the time is right and it feels correct, I am more than happy to share.”

Best & worst attributes: “I’d like to think I will bring lots of good vibes. Worst? I am known to wake up in the middle of the night.”
