Birmingham City are going head-to-head against Wrexham in what has been billed as one of the biggest League One matches ever

David Beckham is at St. Andrew’s @ Knighthead Park for Birmingham City’s gigantic clash against Wrexham. Blues are looking to continue their unbeaten start to the League One campaign after a two-week break.

Chris Davies’ side drew their first game of the season against Reading, but have since won their last three matches to leave them in the division’s top-six. Due to a number of players on international duty, Birmingham’s fixture against Exeter – which was meant to take place last weekend – was postponed.

It means that Blues haven’t played a league game for 16 days, while opponents Wrexham played just nine days ago as they beat Shrewsbury 3-0. With Wrexham playing a game more, just three points split the teams going into the game and there was heightened excitement because of that and the fact both have American owners. Blues part-owner Tom Brady and Wrexham co-owner Rob McElhenney are at the match.

And another of the high-profile names in attendance is Beckham, who has been invited by ownership group Knighthead for the fixture. Beckham and Brady are both in business together. Romeo Beckham, son of David, is also present – as is former Manchester United defender and Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville.

Neville has a huge affiliation with the EFL, as he is a co-owner of League Two side Salford City. Phil Neville, Nicky Butt, Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes are also involved in the Ammies. Neville’s Salford were beaten 2-1 by Wrexham in the Bristol Street Motors Trophy last Tuesday.

As for the game itself, Wrexham took the lead inside the opening couple of minutes through Jack Marriott. The former Derby and Peterborough striker slotted home via a deflection after a corner was half-cleared.

It didn’t take Birmingham long to equalise, however, as Jay Stansfield marked his second league debut with a goal. The 21-year-old pounced on an error from the Wrexham goalkeeper to fire home the leveller.

The Sussexes and the Beckhams once enjoyed a closer relationship but it has become frosty over the years, with an insider claiming Victoria is “not bothered”.

Cracks in their relationship first showed after the couple were invited to the Sussex wedding ceremony but not the evening reception.

Later, it emerged that the two couples had been at odds over leaks to the press made before the wedding.

Author Tom Bower alleged in his book, House of Beckham, that Meghan was furious after an article about her “growing friendship” with Victoria was published by The Sun.

The report, which came amid the UK media’s ongoing probing into her life, claimed: “And their [Meghan and Victoria’s] love of pricey facials and glamorous blow-dries has become the foundation for a growing friendship.”

Harry and Meghan are said to have initially blamed Victoria for the leaks, with Harry allegedly making a tense phone call to David, who, after speaking to his wife, furiously denied the claims.

The book claimed that “in the end, the blame landed on a beautician”.

Now the Mail has cited a close friend of the Beckhams’, who said that Victoria is “not bothered” about their feud with the Sussexes.

David and Victoria Beckham are “horrified” by Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s criticism of the Royal Family, it has been claimed.

The couple “have not been impressed” with the Sussexes’ TV appearances in which they have made a wide range of damaging claims about the royals.

Royal expert and journalist Richard Eden says Prince William’s recent work with David Beckham shows that the former footballer has sided with the Windsors over Harry and Meghan.

Speaking to the Daily Mail Palace Confidential show, Mr Eden said: “It says that he (David) wants to be associated with royalty, and it is also interesting in the context of Prince Harry because Beckham has been good friends with him in the past. He attended Harry and Meghan’s wedding.

“From everything I have heard, he and his wife Victoria have not been impressed with the way Harry and Meghan have behaved.

“For them, family is everything. They are really close to both sets of parents and families. This idea of going on TV and attacking their family…if you talk to an associate of theirs who said it just horrified them.

“It is really everything they don’t agree with.

“The Beckhams are becoming increasingly well known in America, David has this soccer team in Miami. You’d think they could be a part of that court of Harry and Meghan…that really hasn’t happened. They have made clear they want to align themselves with the Windsors.”

Mr Eden’s comments come after David helped William raise money for the London Air Ambulance service earlier this week.

David explained his involvement in the cause as he and William met staff and crew at RAF Northolt.

They also climbed aboard a helicopter and posed for pictures in order to help raise awareness.

In recent years, various reports have alleged that relations between the Sussexes and the Beckhams has soured.

A source told the Daily Mail: “Both David and Victoria put great importance on family and would never, ever turn on their relations the way that Harry and Meghan did.

“The truth is that Victoria never really liked Meghan much. She was friendly and welcoming to her but is not bothered about staying in touch.”
