Royal author Tina Brown is not holding back when it comes to the monarchy.

The former Vanity Fair editor slammed Meghan Markle and “naïve” Prince Harry in a scathing critique after they exited from their royal duties.

“In England, they’re going to constantly make a career out of trashing Harry. But actually, the thing about Harry is he’s very good at being Prince Harry,” Brown, 70, said on “The Ankler” podcast.

“That’s the tragedy of all of this, is that he is the most talented member of the royal family, without doubt, in terms of being a prince, which is all he does know how to do… he’s really sort of flawless at it.”

However, Brown gave her honest perspective on the Duchess of Sussex, “I think he’s pretty much in the thrall of Meghan. The trouble with Meghan is that she has the worst judgment of anyone in the entire world… She’s flawless about getting it all wrong… She really is.”

Brown added, “She’s a perfectionist about getting it all wrong… Her issue is that she doesn’t listen… She has all these people, asks them their opinion, and then doesn’t follow it. She does what she wants to do. And all of her ideas are total crap, unfortunately.”

The royal author continued to criticize how the couple left the monarchy in 2020.

“He’s so naïve and really… unschooled in the ways of the world. Being Prince Harry means that I doubt if he ever booked a table in a restaurant. The army was great for him, and he was extremely good and competent in there. That really helped turn him into a real person.”

Brown claimed that since Harry’s been married to Markle, “he’s the lamb to the slaughter in this situation.”

“He was terribly impressed by Meghan. He thought that she knew all, she persuaded him that she was the savvy Hollywood wheeler-dealer who could come in and make them stars and all the rest of it. And he just sort of blindly followed her like a child, really.”

Fox News Digital reached out to representatives for Prince Harry and Markle for comment.

After their exit, Harry and Markle moved to Montecito, California. They’re raising their two kids in the United States and the Duke of Sussex continues to be estranged from his royal family, including his brother Prince William and father, King Charles III.

“Unfortunately, she made every mistake in the book, and she’s kind of run out of road. I don’t know where Meghan goes. Harry could still, as I say, make a comeback. He’ll always be Prince Harry. He’ll always be the grandson of the queen and the son of Diana.”

Brown’s comments come after the royal couple spoke candidly about the monarchy after their exit.

In 2021, one year after their decision to step down as senior members of the royal family, Harry and Markle revealed their struggles with royal life in a two-hour interview with Oprah Winfrey.

After the explosive interview with Winfrey, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex continued to speak out about their experiences within the royal family.

Prince Harry and Markle detailed their time as working royals in a docuseries released by Netflix in 2022, and Harry followed that up with his memoir, “Spare.” The book detailed the issues in his relationships with King Charles, Prince William, his stepmother Queen Camilla and more. As for Brown, she has been known to criticize the royal family in the past.

In 2022, she claimed that Prince William was “smart” for waiting 10 years before proposing to Kate Middleton.

At the time, Brown had written a book about the British royal family titled “The Palace Papers: Inside the House of Windsor – the Truth and the Turmoil.”

Meghan Markle may have married into the royal family and on the cusp of motherhood, ready to look after her own bub – but it doesn’t mean her mum Doria Ragland won’t be by her side.

The Duchess of Sussex’s mother is said to have come to her daughter’s defence after reported surfaced that her ex-husband and American actor Trevor Engelson had plans to launch a TV comedy based on their failed marriage.

According to British newspaper The Sun, “Doria Ragland, who is currently preparing to head to Windsor for the imminent arrival of Baby Sussex, was previously dispatched by the Duchess of Sussex to confront her ex-husband Trevor Engelson about his plans to launch a TV comedy based on the couple’s failed marriage.”

The comedy sparked a lot of conversations, with the executive producer of hit TV show Modern Family working on it with Trevor via Fox Studios.

 

It was expected that fans would follow the story which saw the ex-husband of a British princess struggle with having to share custody of their (fictitious) child with a princess in England.

The storyline had obvious comparisons to Meghan and Prince Harry’s public marriage,  therefore The Duchess heavily opposed the comedy, particularly as it planned to make fun of the royal romance on a weekly basis.

The Sun suggests Meghan’s mother “is believed to have maintained a friendly relationship with Trevor – and her intervention seems to have worked. He ended up agreeing to drop the comedy altogether.”

Meghan and Trevor began dating in 2004 and tied the knot in 2011. He was a producer on her famous legal drama Suits.

A controversial new film about the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, titled Harry – The Lost Prince, will air on Germany’s ZDF network next month, The Express reports.

The documentary, which promises fresh revelations about Harry and Meghan, will debut at 8.15pm on December 3. It will explore Harry’s struggles within the Royal Family and the broader impact of his personal quest for a meaningful role, following his exit from royal duties in 2020. According to ZDF, it will also address the death of the late Queen and the recent cancer diagnoses of King Charles and Princess Kate.

“The Royal Family has to deal with difficult developments and regroup after ‘Megxit’, the death of the Queen and Charles and Kate’s cancer. What role will Harry play in the future?” a promo for the prime-time special states.

The description continues: “Even in his self-imposed exile in Montecito, California, he remains a figure of public interest. His commitment to charitable organisations – such as the Invictus Games he founded for wounded servicemen and women – always puts him in the spotlight.”

The film will also touch on how the Duke has “always struggled with his role as a ‘reserve’”. The promo claims: “His disclosures in recent years have caused a lot of trouble within the family.”

“Old versus young, traditional versus modern – the family conflict in the House of Windsor reflects the debate about the future of the British monarchy and its value for society,” the network adds.

The makers of the doc, including award-winning filmmaker Ulrike Grunewald, travelled to New York to speak with sources close to the Sussexes and filmed in California, where Harry and Meghan live. The team behind the film also previously produced a special on Princess Kate and The Drama of the Windsors.

It comes amid news of Harry’s own upcoming documentary series. It was announced on Wednesday that POLO, a five-episode docuseries produced by Harry and Meghan, will officially debut on December 10. The highly-anticipated show follows polo players “on and off the field” as they compete in the US Open Polo Championships.

Netflix shared the news and said: “Through fierce rivalries and intense training, viewers will get an unprecedented glimpse into the dedication and skill required to compete at the sport’s highest level.” It is well known that the Duke of Sussex has played polo for decades and is a huge fan of the equestrian sport.

“From a young player pushed to his limits by his demanding father, to a former golfer who’s made significant sacrifices for the love of the sport, to the father-son duo widely regarded as the greatest players of all time — they all face intense personal and professional challenges as they vie for the coveted title,” Netflix explained.

When the late Queen Elizabeth was approaching the end of her life, she relentlessly experienced “crippling pain” every day, but she never allowed this to get in the way of completing her royal duties.

King Charles – then the Prince of Wales – was ready on hand to deputise for his mother, and royal aides even reportedly encouraged the late Queen to hand over some of her high-profile final duties to her son given the health challenges she was facing. But despite the help available to her, the former monarch refused these offers, putting her duty above her personal comfort right until the end of her life – a royal author has claimed.

The author – Omid Scobie – revealed just how much the late Queen Elizabeth was struggling behind closed doors during her final days in his bombshell book Endgame. The author explained that when Boris Johnson resigned as Prime Minister and Liz Truss took his place, royal aides suggested that Charles invite Truss to form a new government, given the “crippling pain” the late Queen was in.

However, Scobie wrote, the late Queen “defiantly” refused the suggestion, showing her intrinsic commitment to her duties as monarch. The meetings went ahead in Balmoral, so Queen Elizabeth didn’t have to travel to London just two days before her death. “Concerned courtiers suggested to the monarch that she might be better off letting Prince Charles carry out the task in her place,” Scobie wrote. “After all, the heir had already stood in for his mother at the opening of Parliament four months earlier. But this was one duty the Queen—despite the crippling pain she was experiencing in private—would not step aside from. ‘It’s my job,’ she defiantly told aides.

 

“Her meeting with Truss was short, lasting a little under an hour, and the Queen concluded it by allowing a photograph of the two to be released—the monarch with her walking stick in her hand (a dark wood favoUrite that once belonged to Prince Philip) and a room-lighting smile.”

The meeting with Truss saw the final public photographs of the late Queen taken by Jane Barlow, PA Media photographer, who called it “an honour and a privilege” to snap the last official pictures of the monarch. Barlow also has revealed to the BBC that despite the visible frailty of the late Queen, even in her final days she was in “good spirits” and “very smiley”.

Prince Harry Says He’ll Never Bring Meghan Markle Back To The UK

Prince Harry has no plans to return to his homeland. In the ITV documentary Tabloids on Trial, which aired on July 26 and explores several legal battles against U.K. newspapers, the Duke of Sussex voiced safety concerns about bringing his wife Meghan Markle, and their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, back to Britain.

“It’s still dangerous, and all it takes is one lone actor, one person who reads this stuff to act on what they have read,” he said in the doc. “Whether it’s a knife or acid, whatever it is, and these are things that are of genuine concern for me. It’s one of the reasons why I won’t bring my wife back to this country.”

Harry announced in January 2020 that he and the Duchess of Sussex would be stepping back from their royal duties. In June of that year, the couple moved to California, where they currently reside with their two children.

 

After retreating from royal life, Harry and Meghan’s right to police security in the U.K. was removed by the Executive Committee for the Protection of Royalty and Public Figures. In 2023, the Duke challenged the decision in court, offering to pay for police protection himself.

In a court statement at the time, Harry said he and Meghan “felt forced” to leave the U.K. due to safety concerns. His statement came after the former head of counterterrorism for the Metropolitan Police, Neil Basu, said the agency had found “disgusting and very real” threats to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

In February 2024, Harry lost his case against the U.K. government, but is able to appeal the court’s decision about his family’s access to police protection.

 

Harry’s Royal Rift

In the recent Tabloids on Trial doc, the Duke also spoke of his recent legal battles with British tabloids, which included taking a newspaper group to court over the alleged hacking of his phone.

Harry explained that his legal challenges have been a “central piece” in his rift with senior members of the royal family. However, he stands by his decision to call out the “torrent of abuse from the press.”

“It would be nice if we did it as a family,” he said in the doc. “I believe that from a service standpoint and when you’re in a public role, that these are the things that we should be doing for the greater good.”

Meghan Markle keeps getting candid about her mental health. On Aug. 4, the Duchess of Sussex and Prince Harry were interviewed on CBS Sunday Morning to talk about their latest project, The Parents Network, which aims to support parents whose children have been “affected by social media harms.”

 

During their sit-down, host Jane Pauley asked Meghan about her 2021 interview with Oprah Winfrey, in which she shared that she “didn’t want to be alive anymore” during her time as a working member of the royal family. While the duchess “wasn’t expecting” to be asked about the famed interview, Meghan said she stands by her decision to open up to Winfrey about her struggles with mental health and thoughts of suicide at the time.

“When you’ve been through any level of pain or trauma, I believe part of our healing journey, certainly part of mine, is being able to be really open about it,” she said, adding that she hasn’t “really scraped the surface” about her experiences in the British monarchy following her and Harry’s exit from the royal sphere in early 2020.

“I would never want someone else to not be believed,” Meghan continued. “If me voicing what I have overcome will save someone, or encourage someone in their life to really, genuinely check in on them, and not assume that the appearance is good so everything’s OK, then that’s worth it.”

 

Following Harry and Meghan’s 2021 interview with Winfrey, which was watched by 17 million viewers in the United States alone, the royal family released a statement addressing the duchess’ comments about her mental health, among other revelations.

“The whole family is saddened to learn the full extent of how challenging the last few years have been for Harry and Meghan,” a Buckingham Palace statement read. “While some recollections may vary, they are taken very seriously and will be addressed by the family privately.”

Prince Harry Was “Devastated”

The Duke of Sussex previously spoke of his wife’s mental health struggles in the couple’s 2022 Netflix documentary, Harry & Meghan, revealing that he was “devastated” to learn she had been experiencing suicidal ideation.
