The day Diana’s birthday present to Charles backfired: As the king turns 76 we recall the princess’s famous dance with Wayne Sleep in 1985 (as documented in The Crown) that left her husband unimpressed…

Throughout Princess Diana‘s 15-year marriage to Prince Charles there were dozens of instances where their clashing personalities were displayed for all to see.

But perhaps the most high-profile example was when the princess danced with ballet star Wayne Sleep as a surprise present for her husband’s 37th birthday in 1985.

They performed a three-minute dance to Billy Joel‘s 80s hit Uptown Girl to uproarious applause and eight curtain calls from the 2,500 VIP-only audience.

But despite the crowd’s reaction, Charles did not stand. When the 25-year-old Diana left the stage and went to him enthused and desperately wanting his approval, he simply said ‘well done, darling’, and turned to talk to someone else.

No video footage exists of the now stuff-of-legend moment, and only a few pictures were taken by the in-house photographer who swore to never release them (although he did sell them in 1995 for around $250,000).

The performance became so iconic that it was since recreated in The Crown, where Charles was depicted as being furious at his wife’s ‘grotesque, mortifying display’.

Here MailOnline looks back at one of Diana’s most beloved stunts and how it revealed to everyone she and Charles were very different people.

It was Diana’s decision to do the secret performance with Sleep at the annual VIP show for Friends of Covent Garden at London‘s Royal Opera House in December 1985.

Sleep at the time was a well-known British dancer who performed for some years with the Royal Ballet, but when he was approached by Diana he expressed scepticism that they could perform together due to his small 5ft 2in frame.

But they quickly became friends with Sleep saying they bonded over ‘schoolboy humour’ after Diana, who became a lifelong friend, called him a ‘naughty boy’ after he confessed to having a ‘very late night’ during their first early morning meeting.

Diana had studied classical ballet as a child but grew too tall at 5ft 10in to dance at the highest level but she still loved dancing throughout her life and was a supporter of the English National Ballet.

Years after the famous performance, Sleep wrote in The Guardian: ‘She loved the freedom dancing gave her.’

The duo practised in various locations such as Sleep’s personal studio in Kensington or in the drawing room of Kensington Palace to keep the Press in the dark about her movements.

The only people who were in on the secret plan were a detective and one of Diana’s ladies-in-waiting Anne Beckwith-Smith – although neither knew what the actual dance was.

When it came time to perform, Sleep raised his hand on stage to give the signal and Diana slipped out of the royal box to change and join him.

As soon as the princess stepped out on the stage, the whole audience was in shock, and it took a moment for them to realise who it really was.

Sleep told Vulture in 2020: ‘Everyone’s mouths gaped open. There was an intake of breath like they couldn’t believe it.’

One the performance itself he said, ‘it wasn’t a serious dance by any means’ but it ‘brought the house down with humor because the audience didn’t know what was coming next’.

He said they did double pirouettes and a lift, and there was also a combination of jazz hip rolls.

It was very dynamic but ‘nothing too difficult’ with steps, lounges and transfers of weight. Sleep also said they had a few innuendos in the performance.

Although there was just the two of them, they ran the diagonals and really covered the whole stage.

Sleep later said ‘she couldn’t have danced it better’ and that he was the nervous one, not Diana, out of fear he would drop the future Queen of England.

What’s more, the dancer claims he even gave Diana a gentle push to bow to her husband – who was seated in the Royal Box.

Diana said to Sleep: ‘No, I’m not bowing to him, he’s my hubby. You won’t get your OBE with those comments!’

She enjoyed the dance so much she wanted to perform an encore, but Sleep refused – saying his motto was to ‘leave them wanting more’.

A few days after the performance, he got a letter from Diana which read: ‘Now I understand the buzz you get from performing.’

But although the audience and press seemed to love Diana’s performance, Charles strongly disapproved.

He had watched it completely oblivious to his wife’s plan and in public confessed himself as ‘absolutely amazed’ by the display.

But according to Andrew Morton’s famous book on Diana, Her True Story – In Her Own Words, in private he thought it was ‘undignified’ as she was ‘too thin and too showy’.

He wrote: ‘No matter how hard she tried or what she did, every time she struggled to express something of herself, he crushed her spirit. It wore her down.’

Diana’s private dance tutor Anne Allan wrote in her new memoir: ‘After repeated curtain calls, an elated Diana left the stage and enthused, “Beats the wedding!”

‘She made her way to Charles, and as she stood before him, I could sense she desperately wanted his approval.

‘He said, “Well done, darling”, and turned to talk to someone else.’

Meanwhile royal expert Richard Kay claimed the ‘Uptown Girl’ routine was a ‘present that backfired’ on Diana.

He said: ‘She did it as a tribute to Charles. Charles wasn’t terribly impressed.

‘He thought she was showing off. In fact, it was incredibly courageous of her to go on stage at the home of English ballet at Covent Garden and to do a routine with the great Wayne Sleep.’

According to royal biographer Tina Brown, Charles’s reaction was interpreted, as ‘frigid disapproval of Diana’s lapse in royal etiquette’.

The iconic dance was also documented in the fourth season of The Crown in 2020, where Jay Webb (playing Sleep) and Emma Corrin (playing Diana) re-created the moment.

During the scene, Charles appears sullen and deeply focused on the music. But as soon as Diana makes her surprise appearance on stage, Charles tenses.

Afterwards, he becomes cold, asking his wife ‘What were you thinking?’ and calling the surprise a ‘grotesque, mortifying display’.

Reflecting on the night of the performance itself, Wayne said it was drastically different to how it was portrayed in the TV show.

He said The Crown made it ‘so shoulder-y’ when in ‘reality it was a little more elegant’.

But despite the fallout from the performance, Anne Allan said in the controversial documentary Diana: In Her Own Words how dancing helped Diana cope with the stress of her turbulent marriage to Charles.

She said: ‘When I first met her you could see that there was a huge shyness. But over time as we went through our dance class realised just how much dance meant to her.

‘She had dance in her soul. I realised the pure enjoyment that it gave her. She loved the freeness of being able to move and dance. She loved it. I could see it helped to alleviate her emotional life. That was hard for her at that time.’

Although it has been almost 39 years since the Uptown Girl dance, the moment has lived on in the minds of the British public as an iconic Diana moment.

As Charles, now King, looks back on all the birthday presents he received in his 76 years, he will no doubt remember the dance, and be glad there are a lot fewer surprises these days.

Harry’s Fair Lady! Meghan Markle Channels Eliza Doolittle as She Shares a Sweet Kiss with Prince Harry to Celebrate His Latest Polo Victory in Santa Barbara. BUT…

Meghan Markle had a My Fair Lady moment as she joined Prince Harry at a polo tournament yesterday.

The Duchess of Sussex, 40, stepped out in a black wide brim hat, black and white polka dot blouse and £670 high-rise pleated shorts as she cheered on her husband at the Santa Barbara Polo & Racquet Club.

Harry, 37, recently joined polo team Los Padres, having played the sport for most of his life alongside his brother William, 39. The club is run by his old friend Nacho Figueres, 45, an Argentine sports star dubbed the ‘David Beckham of polo’.

The team took home the Lisle Nixon Memorial trophy at yesterday’s event, which was open to the public and attracted stars including Rebel Wilson and Meghan’s actress BFF Abigail Spencer.

Meghan was on hand to present the prize and pecked each team member on the cheek – before planting a kiss on her husband’s mouth.

Realising some of her lipstick had rubbed off, she took her finger and gave Harry’s lips a wipe in an intimate moment watched by the crowd of spectators.

The affectionate display was a world away from the tense and distant peck Charles and Diana shared following his polo victory in 1985, just four years after their wedding.

It comes as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex prepare to jet off to London for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee weekend next week.

They will be joined by their children Archie, three, who was born in the UK, and Lilibet, 11 months, who has never met the British side of her family.

Harry and Meghan have taken their children to other polo events this season but left them at home yesterday.

Meghan opted for a glamorous, retro look for yesterday’s outing, wearing her brunette locks in big, bouncy curls underneath her wide brim hat.

Dressing for the California sun, she opted for a breezy black and white polka dot blouse with a pussy bow which she wore loosely tied at her chest.

The duchess paired the printed piece with £670 wide-leg shorts from go-to brand Khaite, which she finished with a £410 black patent belt by the designer.

Despite needing to walk across grass, Meghan decided to wear her favourite £500 Aquazzura pumps.

She finished the monochrome ensemble with a slick of red lipstick, a pair of diamond earrings, delicate rings and a gold necklace.

Harry and Meghan had sent out invitations to a number of high profile names inviting them to yesterday’s event in aid of local charities. The Duke of Sussex’s polo team is also releasing their own range of clothing in collaboration with trendy LA brand James Perse to benefit organisations including Heal The Ocean.

What is King Charles like in private? As he turns 76 today we look back at his ‘completely different’ family persona which involves lots of ‘hugs and kisses’ (despite Harry’s claim in Spare there was ‘nearly a zero-tolerance policy’ on physical contact)

When most people meet King Charles they might get a firm handshake and exchange a few pleasantries.

But as you would expect, he acts in a far more relaxed manner around those close to him – especially his two sons William and Harry in their younger days.

In their company he could be seen fooling around, laughing and joking, playing rough and tumble, and even hugging and kissing, according to one royal biographer.

However in recent years, the King’s private character has come under fire from the disillusioned Prince Harry, who claimed in his tell-all book Spare that the ‘older generation’ of royals had a ‘nearly zero-tolerance prohibition on all physical contact’.

Despite the mound of photo evidence proving the contrary, he wrote: ‘No hugs, no kisses, no pats. Now and then, maybe a light touching of cheeks – on special occasions.’

Here, on the day King Charles turns 76, MailOnline goes inside his private life and reveals his family persona.

Throughout Charles’ life, there have always been cameras focused on him, so he makes sure to grab the rare moments of privacy he does have with both hands.

Behind the high walls of his palaces and country estates, Charles’ private persona is ‘completely different from his public one’, writes Penny Junor in the 1998 book Charles: Victim or Villain?

The royal author writes: ‘He fools around with the boys, they tease each other laugh, joke, rough and tumble, and even hug and kiss.

‘On the last farewell dinner party in their hotel restaurant, in the middle of the dinner Harry got to his feet and, in front of a table full of people, made a little speech to thank “Papa” as both boys call him (rhymes with super), for giving him such a wonderful holiday.

‘He then walked smartly up to his father and smothered his face in kisses, until, in mock embarrassment, the prince begged for mercy. It was a touching scene…’

However the scene painted in the biography is far different from the one Harry outlines in his 2023 memoir Spare.

There he wrote: ‘The older generation maintained a nearly zero-tolerance prohibition on all physical contact.

‘No hugs, no kisses, no pats. Now and then, maybe a light touching of cheeks – on special occasions.

‘No matter how much you might love someone, you could never cross that chasm between, say, monarch and child. Or Heir and Spare.’

Harry also details feeling like he was born to be the ‘spare kidney’ for his elder brother.

But Junor’s biography of Charles seems to contradict the claims later made by the prince.

She wrote: ‘When William and Harry were small, one of the biggest problems Charles’ valets had was keeping his suits clean.

‘Whenever Charles arrived home at Highgrove by helicopter, it would land in the front field, where sheep graze. As soon as William and Harry heard it overhead, they could come running out to meet him.

‘Once it had landed safely, they would race across the field and jump up into his arms for a hug, smearing one suit after another with the sheep droppings they had trodden in on the way.’

The book also claimed Charles built his sons a ‘massive’ tree house in a holly tree, which became affectionately known as Holyroodhouse after Holyroodhouse Palace, the Queen’s official residence in Edinburgh.

And like their father, both boys were funny mimics, doing better impressions of him than anyone else.

Although most of the King’s physical affection is thought to have happened away from the camera, there were also many instances that were captured on camera.

Prince Harry’s claim that Charles gave no affection to him growing up was put into further doubt in December 2023, when the King was seen kissing his grandsons while filming a documentary for the coronation.

Royal fans noticed that during a rehearsal for the Westminster Abbey ceremony in May of that year, Charles is seen bending over to hug and kiss Prince George and Prince Louis.

The King also embraced Princess Charlotte, who curtseyed in homage to him.

However the King’s private enthusiasm for physical contact also sometimes spills over into his public facing role.

A Palace source told The Telegraph in September that the King ‘is a genuinely warm and affectionate man who is not embarrassed to express that in a public way. He’s a human and relatable person’.

They noted that if the late Queen was not hugged, it was out of ‘generational respect’, meaning it ‘would have felt wrong to even attempt it’.

Robert Jobson, author of Charles’ biography Our King, said the monarch has ‘always been a pretty good hugger, pretty relaxed about it’.

The royal expert added: ‘The people around the Royal Family can be strict, but the actual royals themselves have always been fairly relaxed. He [the King] is quite tactile and always has been. He’s got a twinkle in his eye.’

Showcasing his sometimes ‘informal approach’, Charles, as Prince of Wales, was seen breakdancing in 1985 and was even kissed on the cheek by a Spice Girl in 1997.

Meanwhile, King Charles has often been dubbed ‘approachable’ – and the well-earned label is proven through his sweet and compassionate interactions with the public.

After his mother died in September 2022, the new King put on a brave face for the country as he shook the hands of well-wishers at Buckingham Palace.

In an outpouring of affection, one woman leaned over to kiss his hand, while another landed one on his cheek.

It was the first sign of what has been dubbed the ‘informal formality’ of King Charles’s reign, reflecting his chilled-out approach to enthusiastic members of the public.

Meanwhile, during the King’s trip to the Channel Islands in July, one mischievous 91-year-old local, Kathleen Moriarty, planted a kiss on the monarch’s cheek, much to the delight of onlookers.

The loud smooch was picked up by nearby cameras, cutting through the noise of the crowd that was gathered in the small town of St Peter Port in Guernsey.

Again, King Charles took it in his stride, shaking Kathleen’s hand and giving her a wry smile.

Yet an act of such intimacy may have provoked a very different response during the reign of the late Queen.

Royal biographers such as Andrew Morton have said Queen Elizabeth II would ‘never’ have allowed a member of the public to kiss her, noting that she had a ‘different kind of style’ from her son.

But it seems for Prince Harry, King Charles’ family persona was still not affectionate enough.

Meghan Markle’s return to UK could become a reality after close pal’s decision

A close A-list pal of Meghan, Duchess of Sussex is swapping the sunshine of Montecito for the Cotswolds in the UK, in a shocking reversal of Harry and Meghan’s big move in 2020

A close A-list pal of Meghan, Duchess of Sussex could be saying saying goodbye to the US for good after the results of the recent presidential election.

Ellen DeGeneres is reportedly planning to swap the sunshine of her Montecito mansion for the picturesque Cotswolds, which has many famous residents, in a shocking reversal of Meghan and Harry’s royal exit nearly five years ago.

Ellen, 66, and her wife actress Portia De Rossi, 51, are reported to have already purchased a luxurious mansion in the Cotswolds – an area which is close to Harry and Meghan’s former home, and a place many of the Royal Family maintain residences, including King Charles’s Gloucestershire residence of Highgrove House.

Back when Meghan and Harry lived in Frogmore Cottage, Ellen is said to have visited the couple and even helped chip in with one of Prince Archie’s feeds when he was only a baby – and seems to have spent a significant amount of time in rural parts of the UK more recently. She and Portia were spotted only last week at Jeremy Clarkson’s pub The Farmer’s Dog where they spent time in the company of musician James Blunt – and last year Ellen was reported to have attended a lavish party in a stately Oxfordshire home.

The former chat show host and her wife are said to be poised to sell their own Montecito mansion after buying a UK property, and while the Sussexes show no signs of leaving the sunshine of California behind just yet – Harry and Meghan are reported to have recently bought a home in Portugal, the first home they will have had this side of the Atlantic since they were “evicted” from Frogmore Cottage in 2023 and handed back the keys.

    Ellen and Portia

The Cotswolds are deemed by many to be one of the most picturesque parts of the UK, and the rolling hillside that makes up the area spans several counties including Wiltshire, Somerset, Warwickshire, Oxfordshire, and Gloucestershire, amongst others. It is also home to a rural version of the members club Soho House that both Meghan and Harry are members of, and stayed at during their early courtship.

Ellen and her wife Portia are said to be “very disillusioned” by Trump’s recent victory and the couple intend to “get the hell out” of the United States, the Daily Mail reports.

According to People magazine, Meghan became fast friends with Ellen after they happened to bump into each other at a dog shelter when the chat show host and comedian encouraged Meghan to adopt a dog there.

“Ellen goes ‘Is that your dog?’ And I said, ‘No,’ and she’s like, ‘You have to take that dog.’ And I said, ‘Well, I’m deciding.’ And she’s like, ‘Rescue the dog!’ ” Meghan has explained. “It’s sort of like if Oprah tells you to do something. I’m sitting there holding him and she’s like ‘Have you thought of a name for him yet?’ And I said, ‘Well, I think I’d name him Bogart,’ and she’s like ‘You’re taking the dog home.’” Meghan jokingly added, “So I brought him home. Because Ellen told me to.”

    Ellen and Meghan

    Image:

The two women have been neighbours as well as pals for several years now, and Meghan appeared on Ellen’s chat show back in 2021 before it went off the air.

Amid controversy about staff treatment, The Ellen DeGeneres Show ended after 19 years in 2022 after 36 staff members complained about incidents that created a “toxic workplace” the year before.

Ellen joked that she had been “kicked out of show business”, but the controversy somewhat echoed the allegations of bullying made against Meghan with her own members of staff while a working royal – something she has denied and a statement made on her behalf, branding it a “calculated smear campaign.”

Whether Ellen’s new base in the Cotswolds will be enough to persuade Meghan and Harry to quit Montecito too seems unlikely, but the presence of her close pal in her former home might be an enticement for the Duchess to return more regularly to the UK for visits.

Princess Kate happily welcomes Meghan and Harry after receiving an apology for past mistakes, putting an end to rumors of a rift. But what’s particularly notable is the attitude of one person…!

Princess Kate Joyfully Welcomes Meghan and Harry After Years of Rift

The sight of Princess Kate joyfully welcoming Meghan Markle and Prince Harry after years of estrangement would undoubtedly capture the attention of people around the world. For many, such a moment would symbolize healing, unity, and the possibility of reconciliation within the British royal family. After years of reported tensions, misunderstandings, and public controversies, this reunion would be seen as a significant step towards mending relationships that have been strained for so long.

The rift between the couples has been widely documented. Ever since Harry and Meghan’s departure from their royal roles and their move to the United States, speculation about discord between them and the rest of the royal family has been constant. Accusations, interviews, and media portrayals have added layers of complexity to their relationship with Prince William and Princess Kate. For years, the public narrative has been one of division, with stories of conflict overshadowing any hope of reconciliation.

Imagine, then, the impact of seeing Princess Kate warmly and joyfully embracing Meghan and Harry. Such a moment would speak volumes beyond words. It would suggest not only a personal reconciliation but also a broader message of family unity. Kate has often been described as a peacemaker within the royal family, and her open-hearted welcome could signify a desire to move forward from the past and focus on building a more positive future.

The joyous reunion would likely take place in a setting that reflects their shared history—perhaps at an intimate family event or a public royal engagement where their unity could be displayed for the world to see. The warmth and sincerity of Kate’s gesture would be crucial. Her genuine smile, a heartfelt embrace, and perhaps a few kind words exchanged with Meghan would send a powerful message. It would show that despite past differences, the bond of family remains strong and that healing is possible.

For Meghan and Harry, such a welcome would represent a significant moment of validation and acceptance. Over the years, they have faced intense scrutiny and criticism, often feeling isolated from the royal institution. Kate’s joyful embrace would signal that bridges can be rebuilt, and that there is a path back to mutual respect and understanding. It would also offer a sense of closure, allowing them to move forward without the weight of past grievances.

This reunion would not only impact the individuals involved but also resonate with the public. Many people have experienced family rifts and understand the pain of estrangement. Seeing two prominent couples put aside their differences and come together would offer a hopeful message about the power of forgiveness and the importance of family bonds. It would remind people that even in the most challenging relationships, reconciliation is possible.

Moreover, such a reunion could have a positive effect on the royal family’s public image. The royal institution has faced challenges in recent years, and a show of unity would help rebuild trust and goodwill. It would demonstrate that the family is capable of growth, change, and emotional maturity, qualities that are essential for its continued relevance.

In the end, Princess Kate joyfully welcoming Meghan and Harry would be more than just a personal moment—it would be a powerful symbol of hope, healing, and the enduring strength of family.

Nicola’s billionaire businessman father Nelson Peltz, 82, and model mother Claudia Heffner, 69, put on an incredible spread at their huge beachside home.

They decked out their opulent dining room table with a turkey, cakes, a charcuterie board, several salads and plenty of side dishes.

Nicola shared a TikTok of Brooklyn playing board games with her father, posing playfully with her brother Brad, 35, in front of a Christmas tree, and helping himself to food.

Elsewhere in the clip, the Lola actress sat next to her mother and they pouted and blew kisses at the camera.

He told Grazia: ‘Obviously I am [a nepo baby]. But I couldn’t help how I was born, at all.’

While he understands why the public can feel irked by nepo babies, Brooklyn said he tries to ignore the ‘rubbish’ people say rather than dwell on it.

He added: ‘There’s always going to be people that say rubbish. But as long as you do something that makes you happy and you’re kind to people, that’s all that matters.’

The former model announced the launch of his new hot sauce brand last month and his family have been in full support.

Victoria and David Beckham get into the festive spirit as they attempt to fill their family home with Christmas decorations – with hilarious results

Victoria Beckham has shared a hilarious video of husband David placing a toy elf inside a coffee cup as the couple prepared for Christmas on Monday.

The fashion designer, 50, captured former Manchester United and England ace David, 49, as he attempted to fill their home with festive decorations.

‘Where is the elf going?’ she is heard asking her husband as he proceeded to give the toy an unlikely home inside a coffee mug, next to their Nespresso coffee machine.

Captioning the Instagram post, Victoria wrote: ‘I promise… no alcohol.’

It comes after Geri Horner reportedly ‘derailed a lucrative Spice Girls deal’ – that would have netted all five members £1million each.

According to The Sun, Geri, Mel B, Mel C, Victoria and Emma Bunton were all approached about a drama series that came with a seven-figure payday.

Insiders have claimed talks were going well until Geri decided to back out of her involvement in the project.

A source said: ‘It would have seen five actresses taking on the roles of Posh, Ginger, Scary, Sporty and Baby.

‘The venture would have landed them all pay deals of around £1million for essentially not lifting a finger.

‘But as the negotiations ramped up, the others were told Geri had objected. The plans have basically been thrown out.’

The insider added that, without the agreement of Geri, it will be difficult to make the project happen.

MailOnline has contacted representatives for all five Spice Girls for comment.

It comes after Geri was also said to have pulled the plug on plans for a new Spice Girls reunion tour – after her feud with Mel B turned increasingly ugly.

The group had been in discussions about another run of dates and had even made contact with Victoria Beckham about a possible cameo appearance – with the band excited about replicating the success of their last shows.

But insiders say a bitter rift between the pair – who were once so close they allegedly engaged in a fleeting romance – has now driven a wedge between the group and Geri has now walked away entirely.

A source told MailOnline: ‘Geri has had enough to deal with after all the drama with her husband’s relationship with his assistant – it has been a tough enough time – and she’s just lost patience with Mel and her little digs and jibes.

‘She’s walked away and without Geri it’s really not going to happen – in the past she’s been a driving force in the group, but she doesn’t want to deal with Mel at all at the moment let alone share a stage with her.’

Mel made jibes at her former friend by wishing her a ‘Happy 75th Birthday’ online alongside a series of unflattering photographs from their heyday, seemingly a reference to her previous jibes that Geri had lied about her age in the past.

Insiders say there have been many more digs and jibes behind the scenes which have infuriated Geri – who has had a tough six months amid allegations of her Formula One chief husband Christian Horner‘s inappropriate behaviour with a female assistant.

The source added: ‘They’ve always had a tricky relationship but this has got very messy now and nobody has been able to smooth things over between them – so it’s all off again.’

Mel B’s representative declined to comment.

It’s the latest in a series of rows after their ‘frosty’ reunion at Victoria’s 50th birthday bash in April.

The star-studded soiree saw all five of the Spice Girls come together to party but it was claimed Mel and Geri’s greeting was tense.

Despite having posed for a smiley snap with Victoria, Mel C and Emma Bunton, The Sun claimed Mel and Geri were feeling tense.

The Mail previously revealed that the former girlband plans to mark their 30th anniversary with a documentary had fallen apart.

After the Netflix Beckham documentary, made by David’s TV company, was such a success last year, the Spice Girls started to talk to the streamer about possibly making a similar all-access show about the group and their phenomenal success.

It was to feature lengthy interviews with all of the ‘girls’ and their families, talking about their experiences of fame and of life since their pop heyday.

The idea was to tie the documentary to the 30th anniversary of the group being founded in 1994.

However, although Victoria, Mel B, Mel C and Emma were all keen on the doc, after a number of meetings Geri was still against the idea and they were not able to talk her round.

This disagreement — certainly not the first in the group — created a little bit of frost between Ginger and the other girls, reported Alison Boshoff.

Some believe Geri wasn’t keen on the scrutiny due to the looming scandal over her husband Christian Horner, whose role at F1 team Red Bull appeared to be in peril after an employee alleged he had harassed her.

Christian was cleared in March after an inquiry, with the complainant launching an appeal that was subsequently thrown out in August, exonerating the Red Bull boss for a second time.

A statement from Red Bull confirmed: ‘The complainant exercised the right to appeal, and the appeal was carried by another independent KC. All stages of the appeal process have now been concluded , with the final outcome that the appeal is not upheld.

‘The KC’s conclusions have been accepted and adopted by Red Bull. The internal process has concluded.’

A source said: ‘It might have been awkward for Geri to get out there and talk about Girl Power in these circumstances surrounding Christian but in truth even before it all came out she wasn’t keen on revisiting those days. She just didn’t want to go over all the fun, wild times that they had.’

Meghan Markle’s half-sister Samantha Markle speaks out on royal rifts after family tragedy

When Meghan Markle got engaged to Prince Harry, the whole world turned its attention to the Markle family and Samantha Markle said this irked her relatives in the US

Meghan Markle’s despairing half-sister Samantha Markle said she is surprised at how the former actress has previously “mocked” the Royal family.

Samantha, 60, has become estranged from her paternal half-sibling as Samantha claims Meghan’s relationship with Harry has put strain on the rest of the family, including Samantha’s mother Roslyn

Roslyn died in early October. Speaking publicly for the first time since her loss, Samantha fought back the tears to say: “Meghan has no idea what she is missing out on because when my dad (Thomas) goes, it will be too late. Believe me, I know. You can’t get back that time. It leaves a hole in your heart.

“I don’t know the Royal family. I’m just a human, watching from across the pond, but I couldn’t believe it… My dad doesn’t want Meghan to pay him back. But you want love from them because there is a pain in your heart if it isn’t there. I didn’t want my mom to die feeling she was alone, and not loved. I almost left it too late. They could both learn from me.”

When Meghan got engaged to Harry, the whole world turned its attention to the Markle family and all its dysfunction. The family has reportedly drifted apart and now Samantha fears Thomas, 80, has little time left having had two heart attacks and a stroke in recent years.

Yet, the Duchess of Sussex quit her royal life in 2020 and left the UK for the US with Harry, two years after they exchanged vows. Meghan has given scathing interviews about The Firm since, and mimicked curtseying to the Queen during the couple’s 2022 Netflix docuseries.

I knew my dad had suffered, but I thought she would stop at the Queen.” Samantha said, during her interview with the Daily Mail last night, Harry “allowed” his wife to “mock” the late monarch with the act.

But Meghan was reportedly close to Samantha when she grew up. She was born two years after Meghan’s mum Doria Ragland, 68, married Thomas. Now, Samantha desperately wants Meghan, the former actress, to get in touch with their father, although she remains pessimistic.

“If you accept an olive branch, you are asking to be hurt again. I think that would be weird. It would be hard to trust that she was doing it for the right reasons. I think what makes me sad now is there were so many missed opportunities for love and real family,” Samantha added.

According to People magazine, the Sussexes will spend the holidays in America again this year.

In 2019, they spent Christmas in Canada and just two weeks later, they announced their decision to step back as working royals.

They haven’t returned to Sandringham for the holidays since.

Meghan and Harry joined the Royal Family for the annual Christmas Day service at Sandringham for two years – 2018 and 2019 – before they announced they were quitting the Firm and moving stateside.

The Sussexes released the first picture of their daughter Lilibet, who turned three this year, in a family Christmas card that was released on December 23, 2021.

The photo features Lilibet’s older brother Archie seated on the Duke’s lap, with Meghan holding the smiling toddler.

On Friday, The Mirror reported that William and Kate, both 42, will join senior members of The Firm for the annual Christmas Day Service at St Mary Magdalene Church in Sandringham on December 25.

It will be a special Christmas for the family as they come together after what has been a difficult year following Charles, 76, and Kate’s back-to-back cancer diagnoses.

Sources told the newspaper Charles, who is currently in Sandringham, is ‘delighted’ that the whole family will be together for the holidays – with the monarch reportedly overseeing the planning himself.

It comes after the couple celebrated Thanksgiving in style at her billionaire family’s sprawling £76million Florida estate.

Model Nicola looked stunning in a chic grey bustier teamed with stonewash jeans and a gold charm necklace while Brooklyn kept things casual in a T-shirt and joggers.

She also posted a carousel of images from the night on Instagram, writing: ‘I’m so grateful for my family. I hope everyone had a wonderful thanksgiving.’

In one snap, Nicola and Brooklyn posed with her dad, who held up his phone to show her actor brother Will, 38, on the screen on a FaceTime call.

In another image, she wrapped her arm around Nelson, who planted a kiss on her cheek as they posed in front of the lavishly decorated table.

Their Thanksgiving celebrations come after Brooklyn teamed up with Shop with Google, modelling a festive edit in a series of photos.

He looked suave in a tan coat, black jeans and trainers as he posed for the #Holiday100 list in front of a set of shelves containing vinyl records.

As the son of a footballer and Spice Girls singer Victoria Beckham, the aspiring chef has been accused of using nepotism to his advantage in his career.

But the hot sauce brand owner, budding chef and photographer recently put the record straight.

‘I’m always gonna get it, no matter what I do. And I’m fine with that. It makes me work harder, because I’m like, I’m gonna prove these people wrong.’

Brooklyn has been in the limelight since the day he was born, following in the footsteps of his famous parents Posh and Becks.

The former model announced the launch of his new hot sauce brand last month and his family have been in full support.

David shared a snap of him enjoying the sauce with his tacos, while brother Cruz posted a photo of the sauce in his burger.

Cloud 23, named after the No.23 jersey his father wore at Real Madrid and LA Galaxy, comes in two variants – Sweet Jalapeno and Hot Habanero.

Brooklyn and his wife were initially linked after being spotted at a Halloween party in 2019.

They went Instagram official with their relationship the following January.

The pair moved quickly with their romance and announced that they had become engaged that July.

They went on to tie the knot during a lavish wedding ceremony that took place in Palm Beach in April 2022.

Brooklyn opened up about married life at the Cannes Lions International Festival Of Creativity in June.

He said: ‘It’s so important to find that one person you want to spend the rest of your life with. I married my best mate so it’s the best.’

Brooklyn also confirmed he does all the cooking and cleaning at home, saying: ‘My wife can’t cook at all.’
