Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are attending the third day of the Invictus Games in Vancouver, Canada. The Duke has opened up about how he keeps his mother’s memory alive with his son Archie

Prince Harry has told how he speaks to his son Archie about Princess Diana and has shown him iconic footage of her walking through minefields.

The royal, 40, spoke about how he is keeping Diana’s memory alive by telling the five-year-old about her life and achievements, including bringing international awareness about landmines in Angola.

Speaking at the Invictus Games in Canada, Harry said: “Archie was asking about landmines so I talked about how some of these guys were blown up. I found myself talking to him about mines when he was five years old. Interestingly it gave me a chance to talk about my mum, his grandma, which I didn’t even really consider. He wanted to see videos and photographs of his grandma Diana out doing her thing with land mines all those years ago.”

Diana died aged 36 in a car crash in Paris in August 1997. She triggered a worldwide conversation that saw a turning point in the fight against the lethal devices by walking through a minefield in Huambo, Angola, on January 15, 1997.

Harry honoured her memory by walking through a minefield in Dirico, Angola, in September 2019. Experts say 60 million people worldwide still live in fear of landmines every day. Harry spoke while watching wheelchair basketball, alongside wife Meghan, 43, inside Vancouver Convention Centre on Sunday night. Speaking to CTV presenter Omar Sachedina, he added: “It’s hard because kids don’t always ask the right questions, so you either shout it down right away, which I will never do, or you engage in the conversation and try to explain things.”

It comes as Harry and Meghan stopped off to visit members of the indigenous Squamish Nation this morning while on their way from Vancouver to Whistler. The couple played traditional instruments as children danced and sang for them inside Squamish Valley Totem Hall. Posting on Instagram after leaving the venue, Meghan wrote: “Thank you for welcoming us onto your sacred land”. The Sussexes will arrive in the picturesque ski resort of Whistler later today, where the Invictus skeleton competition is being held.

The Vancouver tournament kicked off with a star-studded opening ceremony on Saturday, held in the city’s 40,000-capacity BC Place Stadium. Harry and Meghan treated fans to a loved-up display while watching the likes of Nelly Furtardo, Katy Perry Coldplay’s Chris Martin perform on stage. Meghan, dressed in a £2,400 ivory double breasted Sentaler trench coat, was seen tenderly stroking her husband’s neck while they sat and watched the event in the stands. Another moment saw the couple pack on the PDA as they shared a passionate smooch.

Reacting to the tactile signs of affection from the Duchess, body language expert Judi James told The Mirror: “Clutching his arm and leaning here head against his shoulder in a romantic, date-night pose or reaching her hand out to caress his neck in a gesture of more maternal-looking pride as he is mentioned from the stage.” And she continued: “She’s directing attention onto Harry and showing support and an almost fan-like sense of appreciation.”

Just hours before the glittering opening ceremony, Meghan made an impromptu speech at a private Invictus Games event where she gushed about her husband and made a sweet nod to their children, Archie and Lilibet. Speaking to a crowd of veterans and their families, said: “I was not planning on speaking tonight, and we just arrived, I don’t know, a couple of hours ago, and I touched Canadian soil and I went, oh, it feels like home.”

Then turning to Harry, she said: “We are just thrilled to be here, and I would be remiss if I didn’t take the opportunity to introduce someone who means a lot to me. And I know he means quite a lot to all of you. You will see him throughout this week. You will see him at the Games. You will see him probably curling with you, cheering you on.”

The Duchess then gave rare insight into parenthood with her husband, as she said: “What you won’t have seen is all of the moments that have happened in the lead-up to these Games, all of the moments where, as you know, with families, the big rush in the morning – getting ready for school, packing the lunch boxes, making breakfast. My husband’s in all of that with us, and then he’ll be on his phone, and Archie will say: ‘Papa, why are you on your phone?’ And he’s like: ‘That’s Invictus. I’m getting ready for Invictus.”

Athletes will compete in core sports including indoor rowing, sitting volleyball, swimming, wheelchair rugby and wheelchair basketball. The Games will also include winter sports for the first time.

The prince founded the Invictus Games in London in 2014, with this year marking the seventh edition of the competition for wounded military veterans. During his emotional speech at the ceremony, Harry told the crowd of 40,000: “We gather here in Vancouver in a spirit of unity. Beyond any differences, here at the Invictus Games we are grounded in mutual respect, competing fiercely, but believing in one another.”

He continued: “Over the past decade I’ve lost count of the times we’ve heard you tell us that the Invictus Games saved you. Respectfully, I disagree. Invictus didn’t save you. You saved yourself.”

There have been smiles, laughter and tears shed between Prince Harry and Meghan Markle at the Invictus Games.

After months of solo work appearances and difficult moments for the couple – from the devastating LA wildfires to Donald Trump’s blistering remarks – the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’ famously inseperable bond is back in full force.

The couple have so far shown a very loved-up display in Vancouver, Canada, as they attend various events for the sporting tournament that champions injured servicemen and women.

The cause has been incredibly close to Harry’s heart since he founded the Games in London in 2014. This year marks the seventh edition and sees more than 500 athletes compete in 11 different events over nine days.

Meghan, 43, has shown that she couldn’t be prouder of her husband. The pair have enjoyed the show from the stands, danced away to pop hits and cosied up with champagne. Meghan teased her Instagram followers further about the cheeky gift, writing: “Walking into a very important meeting” with a winking emoji before the big reveal.

The moment echoed a past Invictus encounter when an Australian athlete cheekily asked for Harry’s autograph on a pair of Speedos during the 2018 Games in Sydney. At the time, Harry joked he would sign them – provided the athlete wore them on his head. But, as per royal protocol, the prince ultimately had to decline given that the royals cannot sign personal items.

Golf cart backlash

One behind-the-scenes clip of Harry and Meghan on her newly reopened Instagram account has sparked backlash. The clip shows the couple smiling and waving at cheering crowds as they travel along on a golf buggy at Saturday’s opening ceremony, with footage showing them riding past disabled veterans.

Reacting to the clip, one person commented: “So Meghan and Harry, two able-bodied people, are driven on a golf cart past disabled veterans. Some of the veterans are [in a] wheelchair. They should have walked through the group, meeting, greeting and shaking hands. All with a camera following them. Unbelievable.”

Another wrote: “Disabled veterans made to stand waiting in a mile long cold concrete corridor whilst these two very able-bodied get golf carted in the opposite direction. Just when you think they can’t sink any lower.” And a third added: “Who so being honoured here? The veterans OR Harry and Meghan being honoured by the veterans!”

Donald Trump swipe

Hours after US President Donald Trump branded Meghan “terrible”, Harry appeared to deliver a veiled jab at the US president. At Vancouver’s BC Stadium during the opening event, Harry took the opportunity to denounce the lacklustre moral fibre he perceives in today’s society. Addressing the audience, he commented: “At this moment, when there is no shortage of crises, no absence of uncertainty, no lack of weak moral character in the world, the values you embody, the way you carry yourselves – not only at the Invictus Games, but each and every day – your courage, your resilience, your humanity, illuminate a path forward for us all.”

It came shortly after Trump dismissed the suggestion of deporting the Duke from the States following Harry’s revelations about his history with drugs in his autobiography. According to The New York Post, Trump brushed off the idea of kicking the Prince out of America on Saturday and said: “I don’t want to. I’ll leave him alone. He’s got enough problems with his wife. She’s terrible.”

During the half-time interval at the final of a wheelchair basketball event on Sunday, Harry took part in ‘Moose Cam’, which encourages spectators to smile at the camera, poke out their tongues and waggle their hands by the side of their heads. As Harry duly obliged and his face appeared on a giant TV screen, there were big cheers from the crowd.

The boys’ mum, Rachel, told us: “The boys were talking to Meghan about how they went on a tube ride (snow tubing) and got stuck. They met her before at the last Games in Düsseldorf.” The family, from Lincoln, cheered on Mike at the event, the latest in a string of competitions since the Games began on Saturday.

Whistler is a picturesque ski resort north of Vancouver. Thousands have descended on it this week for Prince Harry’s latest Invictus Games, which the royal says “demonstrates the power of sport to inspire recovery, support rehabilitation and demonstrate life beyond disability”.

Meghan bonded with a group of children at the Invictus Games by reading them a best-selling book celebrating diversity.

The mum-of-two read the book to the 40 kids, who were from a range of different countries, during a special behind closed doors friends and family event on Sunday morning. At the end of the reading, Meghan, 43, warmly told them: “We are here for you – we will be cheering you and your parents on this week!”

The tome, called ‘All Are Neighbors’, is described as “uplifting” and focuses on a neighbourhood “coming together to celebrate their diverse community”. Meghan posted a video of herself surrounded by the youngsters on her Instagram account.

Prompting laughter from him and the entire crowd, she joked: “You don’t have to model them right now!” Harry and Meghan are today set to enjoy sporting action on what is the first full day of action following Saturday’s opening ceremony.

The Firm has become well-known for their love of pulling pranks, giving each other joke Christmas presents and generally poking fun at one another whenever they can, and nicknames are just part of this. Whether it is Cabbage or Squeak, Gary or Stavros, the royal nicknames are hilarious and offer a glimpse at the light-hearted nature of the family behind the crown.

One young royal who has a particularly sweet pet name is Princess Charlotte. Her father, Prince William was heard using it when Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis visited the Chelsea Flower Show in 2019 to see the ‘Back to Nature Garden’ that the Princess of Wales had co-created.

The Wales family’s visit to the famous show in 2019 offered the public an intimate glimpse at the family as they explored the garden. While he played on a rope swing in the corner of the garden, Prince William shouted out to his daughter and asked her to give him a push.

But instead of saying ‘Charlotte’, he called for ‘Mignonette’. The French word is said to mean “small, sweet, and delicate” or “cute”. During a later visit to Northern Ireland, it was revealed that Kate calls her daughter ‘Lottie’ as she chatted to waiting members of the crowd.

It is a royal tradition that while a royal is at school or while they are working in a professional capacity that they are known by their first name and use their parent’s title as a last name. This means that Princess Charlotte is known as Charlotte Wales to her classmates and teachers.

PA)The same goes for her elder brother as he is known as George Wales at school, and it is likely that younger brother Louis uses the same style when he joins his siblings at Lambrook School in Berkshire. Prince William and Prince Harry also adopted this tradition during their education and time in the military. They both took the last name of Wales after their father’s former title of the Prince of Wales.

However, the tradition of using a parent’s title as the last name is not something that every royal chooses to do. As the official last name of the Royal Family is Mountbatten-Windsor, many royal children use that surname at school.

For example, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie were known to use that style, rather than be known as Beatrice and Eugenie York. The same goes for Prince Harry and Meghan’s children when they were previously known as Archie and Lilibet Mountbatten-Windsor. However, in 2023, it was announced that the pair would be styled as Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet of Sussex after the couple revealed they did not wish to deny their children of their birth right.

“For the first part of the clip, Harry says ‘give us a kiss then’. Meghan gives him a kiss on the lips and says ‘all the best’,” the lip reader told The Sun. Harry then left his wife to deliver a speech to the crowd at the BC Place Stadium. “We gather here in Vancouver in a spirit of unity,” he said.

“Beyond any differences, here at the Invictus Games we are grounded in mutual respect, competing fiercely, but believing in one another.” Emphasising the athletes’ resilience, Prince Harry declared: “Over the past decade I’ve lost count of the times we’ve heard you tell us that the Invictus Games saved you. Respectfully, I disagree. Invictus didn’t save you. You saved yourself.”

Trump suggested that Harry already has “enough problems with his wife” Meghan who the president branded as “terrible”.

And during his Invictus Games speech, Harry also criticised what he perceived as “weak moral character in the world ” which could also have been him hitting back at Trump.

Harry addressed the audience, saying: “At this moment, when there is no shortage of crises, no absence of uncertainty, no lack of weak moral character in the world, the values you embody, the way you carry yourselves – not only at the Invictus Games, but each and every day – your courage, your resilience, your humanity, illuminate a path forward for us all.”

The Sussexes looked loved-up as they took in the start of the sporting event in Vancouver, kissing and cuddling in the stands. The duke, 40, and duchess, 43, put on an amorous display throughout the two-hour show, alongside 40,000 fans, inside Vancouver’s BC Place stadium.

And then afterwards they went on a low-key date night at Vij’s Indian restaurant in the city with Michael and Luisana on Saturday night. Chef Vikram Vij wrote on Instagram: “Another incredible night at Vij’s. When food brings people together, magic happens! We were honoured to once again welcome Prince Harry, Meghan Markle, Michael Bublé, and Luisana Lopilato for another unforgettable evening at Vij’s.

The opening ceremony came after US president Donald Trump took a dig at mum-of-two Meghan while declaring he was not interested in throwing Harry out of the US amid his visa row. Trump, 78, said he won’t deport Harry – because the royal “has enough problems” with his “terrible” wife.

Harry appeared to aim an apparent jab back at Trump while giving a speech on stage towards the end of the end of the show, bemoaning “weak moral character in the world”. He also personally thanked veterans after leaving the stage and shared a hug with a member of the Ukrainian team.

Harry and Meghan on Sunday night met competitors’ friends and families in Vancouver and were preparing to watch injured veterans go head-to-head in wheelchair basketball and wheelchair curling. Writing on her Instagram account on Sunday night, Meghan said: “Let the games begin! Get ready for a week of heart, hope, and heroes in action. Join us in cheering loudly and proudly to show just how much these competitors and their families mean to us.”

Meghan Markle came to the rescue of a fan who fell backwards as they had a photo taken together.

The Duchess of Sussex was posing with fans in the basketball hall at the Invictus Games, which began in Vancouver on Saturday, when the woman lost her balance. It came after she and Harry had both been watching wheelchair basketball.

There was a large group of people looking to have a selfie with Meghan and one woman began to chat with her before having a photo together. But it was just after the photo had been taken that the fan began to topple backwards with Meghan, as well as other members of the crowd, holding onto her so she didn’t fall over.

Meghan looked shocked asking “are you okay?” before holding hands with the woman as they had another snap together. The royal couple stayed behind for more than 25 minutes posing for pictures with fans inside Vancouver Convention Centre after being given front row seats for a match between USA and Nigeria.

After the match ended, Meghan also spoke to Cynthia Phelps, 39, her husband James, 44, and their baby Laramie, seven months, all from Alaska. At one point Meghan held baby Laramie in her arms. Cynthia said: “She said she was a very happy baby. She said her kids were at home and she missed them and she was excited to see a baby that was so happy.

“She said she misses them and remembers when they were young.” Cynthia added: “She is always personable and very down to earth and just really cares about us. Every time she talks to us it’s very visible and genuine.” James, who served alongside Harry at Camp Bastion in Afghanistan in 2012, where they first got to know each other, is competing in wheelchair basketball, wheelchair rugby, biathlon and skeleton.

They genuinely care about the healing journey of every single one of the competitors. We greatly appreciate it.”

In a touching moment during the match, which USA won, eight-year-old Lucious Gayton ran over to Harry clutching a Funko Pop! figure of him, which the royal signed. The overwhelmed youngster admitted: “I don’t remember what he said.” Lucious was there with his mother Ivette to support his father Lucio, a US army veteran.

Ivette said: “I do like Harry, we like the whole family and follow them on the news. We have the whole royal Funko Pop! Collection. We do really appreciate this event, it gives my husband purpose and he gets very excited about it. He was left with a spinal injury after tours in Afghanistan and Iraq.”

Linda Robson fears she will have to have her pancreas removed in a heartbreaking health admission.

The Loose Women star opened up on her health scare to Ruth Langsford, Brenda Edwards and Janet Street-Porter on Tuesday. The Birds of a Feather star shared her health woes as the panel discussed how illness can affect your family following Kate Middleton’s brave video announcing she has completed cancer treatment.

Linda shares her son Louis and daughter Roberta with ex-husband Mark Dunford and has an older daughter, Lauren, from a previous relationship. She said: “I have had a bit of health scare – quite a few years ago I had gall stones and they damaged my pancreas and they’ve been keeping an eye on me for a while now.” Linda explained she had undergone scans in recent weeks and is expected to receive the results of her latest scan next week.

She continued: “I had a cyst on my pancreas and it went from one to two cm so the kids have been really worried about me,” before adding that she’s waiting to find out whether the cyst has grown in size. A shocked Ruth remarked: “This is happening right now to you?”

“Yes,” Linda replied. “If it is [bigger] then they’ll have to remove my pancreas which means I’d then be a diabetic but fingers crossed that won’t happen and the cysts won’t have grown. I feel quite positive about it but the kids are obviously worried about it.”

Ruth asked: “How do you deal with that as a family? Are you talking?” To which Linda replied: “I make jokes about it all the time because I try to diffuse them worrying about me. When I did go to the hospital they came with me and taped everything the doctors said because I would have forgotten everything that they said.”

Earlier this year, Linda revealed her children became her carers during her battle with OCD, alcoholism and depression. She explained: “My children were my carers when I was mentally ill. There was a point when I got so low I couldn’t be left alone. I wasn’t allowed to see my grandchildren until I was better. It was four years ago now and they still say, ‘Mum I’m so glad you are better, we never thought we’d get you back.’”

Recalling the difficult time in her life during a Loose Women episode, Linda explained: “I went through a really tough time, I was depressed and I turned to alcohol and had cleaning OCD. I used to always have a glass of wine or spritzers in the evening, come 10 o’clock at night, but never in the daytime. And then I got put on medication that sent me a bit mad.

“I got put on a certain drug which was supposed to help the depression but it didn’t it just heightened it, so I had to go into three different establishments and it was the worst time in my life, I completely ruined my family’s lives.”
