King Charles III met with David Beckham- for the first time after granting the legendary footballer a charity ambassador role.

The England superstar was recently unveiled as an ambassador for The King’s Foundation, an educational charity the then Prince of Wales established in 1986.

The footballer was appointed to the new role on May 31, and met the King this week.

With pictures from the event showing the two warmly shaking hands and appearing to enjoy one another’s company.

The beaming pair reportedly bonded over a fondness of homegrown honey, with David having recently demonstrated his gardening credentials in a series of social media posts.

A source at Charles’ charity told The Sun the pair have “bonded” over shared interests. They said: “The King and David Beckham have really bonded over their similar interests.

This is a massive thing for him and he’s delighted. He is really passionate about his new role.”

Beckham, who resides in the Cotswolds with his Spice Girl turned fashion designer wife Victoria, said in a statement that he was “excited” to have the opportunity to work with the King’s Foundation and raise awareness of its work. He said: “I’m excited to be working with The King’s Foundation and to have the opportunity to help raise awareness of the charity’s work.

“I’ve always been keen to help young people to expand their horizons and I’m particularly looking forward to supporting the Foundation’s education programmes and its efforts to ensure young people have greater access to nature.

“Having developed a love for the countryside I’m also on a personal mission to learn more about rural skills which is so central to the Foundation’s work. It was inspiring to hear from The King about the work of His Majesty’s Foundation during my recent visit to Highgrove Gardens — and compare beekeeping tips.”

The King’s Foundation awards provide a platform for high achieving teachers, students, alumni and partners who have, through outstanding efforts, significantly contributed to the Foundation’s multi-sector mission. Alongside their shared interest in the charity, the King and former Manchester United player have a shared interest in the countryside, which Beckham recently expanded upon in his documentary “Beckham”.

When they stay in the UK, the Beckhams live out of a sprawling Cotswolds estate, which the footballer uses to its fullest potential. He told documentary makers: “I normally get into my country get-up which I’m not in now. I’ve got a stick, I walk around, sit out here with a cup of coffee.”
