Meghan Markle has been dubbed the “Princess of Nigeria” by fans as the Sussexes visit the African country.

It’s been called the Sussexes’ “unofficial Royal tour” and it looks as though they’ve found new fans who have given Meghan the new nickname.

The pair have been busy since touching down on in Abuja on Friday for the 72-hour whistle stop tour of the country.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were both spotted watching a sitting volleyball game yesterday, Saturday, May 11, before Harry decided to join in the match at Nigeria Unconquered, a charity supporting wounded, injured or sick servicemembers, in Abuja.

Now fans have taken to social media site X to express their admiration for Meghan.

Another said: “Nigerian princess and her husband.”

The Sussexes were invited to Nigeria by the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, who met Harry last September at the Invictus Games in Dusseldorf, Germany.

Their invite came after Meghan found out about her Nigerian heritage – with Meghan thanking Nigerians for welcoming her back to “my country” as she discussed her West African roots on day two of her visit with Prince Harry.

The Duchess of Sussex spoke at a panel event alongside Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, director-general of the World Trade Organization, last night, Saturday, May 11.

She told those in attendance: “I want to start by saying thank you very much for just how gracious you’ve all been in welcoming my husband and I to this country…my country,” reports PEOPLE magazine.

The Nigerian jaunt comes after the Duke visited London alone for an Invictus Games ceremony at St Paul’s Cathedral.

However he did not see his father King Charles despite him being just a few miles away at a Buckingham Palace garden party.

The Sussexes reunited in a surprise – albeit it very brief – visit to the UK by Meghan before they jetted off to Africa via Heathrow Airport.
