Prince Harry and King Charles bombshells from ‘deepening rift’ to phone call heartache

Prince Harry and his father, King Charles III, failed to meet during his two-day visit to the UK last week, as tension between the father and son reportedly rumbles on with little sign of reconciliation

New bombshell claims have revealed just how distant Prince Harry has become from King Charles, as the Duke allegedly remains in the dark about his father’s cancer fight.

Both Harry and Charles, 76, were in the UK at the same time last week while the Duke of Sussex, 40, attended a pre-scheduled court hearing, but failed to meet. Harry returned to his Montecito home after his fleeting visit to London for a two-day hearing amid a legal battle over his security arrangements.

It’s thought Harry has not seen his father face-to-face in more than a year, with their relationship allegedly becoming even more “distant” than it already is. According to a source, Harry’s calls and letters to his father are “going unanswered”. Here, we take a look at all of the bombshell claims made since Harry’s visit to the UK….

Harry and Charles show no sign of healing rift

The father and son suffered a strained relationship since Harry stepped down from his role as a working royal in 2020. According to PEOPLE magazine, a palace source thinks there’s no sign of the pair healing their rift.

They said: “I don’t think there is any rapprochement”, while another added: “They are distant”. The Mirror has contacted Buckingham Palace for comment.

Harry’s calls and letters ‘go unanswered’

Sources claim the Duke has been sending letters and has even been attempting to call his father, but his efforts are going unanswered. The last time Harry met with his father was after Charles announced his cancer diagnosis in February 2024.

Harry flew to the UK to spend just 30 minutes with the monarch who was scheduled for public appearances. According to PEOPLE Harry learned of the latest development in his father’s cancer battle by looking at the news.

King ‘has his reasons’ for keeping distance

Harry’s friends claim that the King was unavailable during his visit to the UK due to prior commitments. But it has been noted that Harry’s court hearing has been scheduled “long before” Charles’ overlapping state visit to Italy.

Those close to Harry believe the King is deliberately keeping his distance, in part to avoid being drawn into discussions about security.

“[The legal battle] puts Harry in direct contact with the people who are carrying out the King’s orders,” royal author Sally Bedell Smith revealed. “If his father was to say something even seemingly innocuous, it could end up landing in the middle of the court case.”

Harry ‘kept in the dark’

With Harry’s calls and letters going unanswered, the Duke has turned to the news to find out about updates on his father’s health, according to sources. Charles has been battling with cancer for the last 14 months, recently being hospitalised after suffering from symptoms related to treatment. Harry is said to be in the dark as to his father’s current condition and prognosis, being unaware he was hospitalised in March.

William’s also not ‘picking up’

Though Harry’s relationship with his father is said to be better than his bond with his brother William, he has yet to hear from either. According to sources, Harry has tried reconciling with his brother, but the Prince of Wales “hasn’t responded” to calls and messages.

The pair have suffered a fractured relationship since Harry moved to the US. At that time, Harry made numerous claims about his brother, including one in which he accused him of pushing Harry into a dog bowl.

Harry’s legal team ‘optimistic’ about security fight

Meanwhile, Harry’s long-running legal battle over UK security rumbles on. The Duke is challenging the Home Office’s decision to strip him of police protection when visiting Britain – and sources say his team is feeling “cautiously optimistic” after recent court proceedings.

“The legal team believes the argument for protection is strong,” said one source. “Harry wants to feel safe bringing his children to his home country.”
