The Royal Family have wished Prince William a very happy birthday as the heir to the throne celebrates his 42nd birthday today.

Taking to social media, the official account of the Firm shared an adorable throwback picture of King Charles holding the Prince of Wales when he was just a few months old.

The sweet black and white image shows Charles beaming at his firstborn son.

Accompanying the picture read a short message: “Happy Birthday to The Prince of Wales!”

Royal fans were quick to gush over the new image and share their own birthday wishes to the prince.

Soon afterwards, Kensington Palace posted a new photograph of the Prince of Wales, with his three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis. The snap was taken by Princess Kate in Norfolk last month.

The group, dressed in casual attire, look jubilant as they appear to be jumping up in the air while holding hands against a coastal setting.

Its caption read: “Happy birthday Papa, we all love you so much! Cx”.

This is the second time the Wales children share a message on social media, with the first posted just last weekend, when they wished William a happy Father’s Day.
