Coronation Street star Sue Cleaver has opened up about ‘living fearlessly’ during a discussion on Loose Women

Coronation Street star Sue Cleaver has opened up about ‘living fearlessly’ after she underwent emergency surgery. Speaking as part of the Loose Women panel on Thursday’s episode, Sue said spoke on the moment she realised “life was too short.”

The star appeared on the panel alongside Christine Lampard, Judi Love and Kelle Bryan as they spoke about Davina McCall’s recovery following her brain tumour operation after her recent interview with Steven Bartlett.

“I think when anything like that happens, there’s two ways to go isn’t there,” Sue, who has opened up about her admission to ICU said. “I was very shocked by it but it would did to for me is it gave me a little poke and helped me make the decision as I’m leaving Corrie, it made me wake up and think life is too short,” she continued.

“It did galvanise me into making change in my life, and a promise to myself that I was going to live fearlessly. And that meant getting out of my comfort zone.” Further speaking on Davina McCall’s illness, Sue continued: “If you can get to a stage where that illness doesn’t define you, that you can move past it, it can be a really useful tool to say: ‘I’m glad that happened. Because of that, this where I am now and this is what I’m doing now'”.

In 2023, Sue revealed that she was rushed into ICU after undergoing emergency surgery. The star shared her health troubles after her image had been used by diet companies using her image, claiming she had lost weight from their gummies.

Speaking on Loose Women last year, the soap star said: “I had a really bad year. I had a hysterectomy in March. Then a few weeks ago, I ended up in A&E, I don’t need to go into details, but I have not been on a diet this year. I have been seriously ill,” she said.

“It was a scary scary time. I had surgery and ended up in intensive care. There is no diet, there are no gummies. These companies pray on vulnerable people all the time,” she continued.

In 2019, Sue suffered with sepsis. The star felt ill while filming a scene for Corrie. Initially thinking it was a flare up of her IBS, however her Corrie co-star, Melanie Hill, who played Cathy Matthews, noticed her feet were purple and blue. “There was an hour window of opportunity,” she revealed after she was taken to hospital.

Discussing the recovery, Sue admitted that it took her a “long time to get better” and that she was on bed rest for a few weeks.
