Shawn Levy has revealed that he remains hopeful for Real Steel 2!
Shawn Levy has recently offered a hopeful update regarding the potential sequel to the underrated sci-fi sports film Real Steel.
The original movie, released in 2011, gained a cult following and featured Hugh Jackman as a former boxer who builds and trains a robot boxer to connect with his estranged son.
At the CinemaCon 2024 event, Levy shared his excitement about Real Steel 2.
He mentioned that he frequently ponders and talks about the potential of a sequel.
Levy said, “We always talk about Real Steel 2. Because the world won’t let us forget, and I’m glad for that.”
Although Levy didn’t explicitly confirm the follow-up movie, there is a chance that Hugh Jackman could reprise his role as the ex-boxer Charlie Kenton.
The first film has experienced a resurgence in popularity on Netflix, especially due to its touching story about an unlikely hero.
In 2022, Disney+ announced a Real Steel series, but updates on its progress have been scarce since then.
Shawn Levy, the producer, previously indicated that the series needed a showrunner and a team of writers to advance.
In September 2023, Shawn Levy revealed that ongoing strikes have hampered his upcoming projects, including the next Star Wars movie and the much-awaited Real Steel 2 Disney+ series.
Shawn stated at that time that he desired Real Steel 2 “as badly as the lovers of Real Steel want it, so alive, but paused” due to the strikes.
It is important to note that it is not yet clear whether a Real Steel sequel is being developed as a series or a film, or if it has been scrapped altogether.
Real Steel 2 has not been announced yet.
