Meghan & Sophie wore same outfit but one changed key detail to suit body shape

Meghan Markle stepped out wearing a very similar outfit to that of Sophie, Countess of Wessex. Despite both being “bespoke” designs, one of the royal ladies made further changes.

Meghan Markle and Sophie Wessex have worn the same outfit – but in different colours. The Duchess of Sussex opted for a black Emilia Wickstead outfit a few years after the Countess of Wessex wore the same dress in pale blue several times. Both were bespoke, but one royal lady made further changes to suit her style and shape.

Back in 2014, Sophie attended Royal Ascot wearing a bespoke Emilia Wickstead outfit.

In a soft mint, the outfit consisted of a dress with a cropped matching jacket in a cloqué fabric – this is when the material is irregularly raised or embossed.

The dress featured darts around the waist to ensure it fit perfectly to Sophie’s shape, and the hemline finished below the knee.

The jacket had three-quarter sleeves, hidden buttons and a small collar.

It’s widely reported that the Emilia Wickstead outfits the royals wear are bespoke – either adjusted to suit the wearer’s design preferences or custom made to measure.

For the occasion, the Countess wore a marvellous hat in the same colour and accessorised with a large aquamarine brooch, said to be worth £250,000 should it ever go to auction.

She wore the same outfit – but with a different brooch – a year later when attending the Buckingham Palace Garden Party for The Blind Veterans Association.

Then in 2018, Meghan stepped out wearing an incredibly similar outfit, albeit in black.

For the Anzac Day church service at Westminster Abbey, Meghan dressed in an apt all-black ensemble.

The bespoke two-piece set was by New Zealand-born fashion designer, Emilia Wickstead.

It consisted of the Kristie jacket and Christian skirt from the designer’s SS 2014 collection.

The jacket is believed to be the same as Sophie’s mint version.

But instead of wearing a dress underneath, Meghan chose the Christian skirt, which featured a thick waistband and pleating on the hips which created a full bell-shaped skirt.
