Who Went Home and Who Made It Through Night 1 on ‘The Voice’ Season 25 Knockouts

Reba McEntire, Dan + Shay, Chance the Rapper and John Legend paired up their teammates for the first night of Knockouts for Season 25 of ‘The Voice.’

The Knockouts began tonight on Season 25 of The Voice with coaches Reba McEntire, John Legend, Chance the Rapper and Dan + Shay matching up their teams for sing-offs which determine which artist goes through to the Playoffs and which one goes home.

“It’s such a powerful experience for so many artists and you see them coming into their own in the Knockouts and I love it,” John said.

The Knockouts are different from the Battles in that they are not duets. Rather, each of the artists makes their own song choice, which gives America a chance to see who they are as a performer.

This year, the Mega Mentor is country great Keith Urban who will be working with the coaches and the artists on the songs that they’ve chosen to prepare for their performances, but it will be up to the individual coaches as to who goes through to the Playoffs. There are no Saves in this round, but there are Steals.

Tae Lewis: Cody Johnson’s “Nothin’ on You.”

Winner: Asher HaVon

Reba said: “Asher and Tae are so talented. I did choose Asher. Something about him is so different than anybody. He looks like he’s fixin’ to say a sentence and he goes up on this run that’s incredible. I definitely think Asher could win.”

It was a three-way Steal for Tae Lewis with John Legend, Dan + Shay and Chance all hitting their buttons, but Tae chose to stick with his country roots and went with Dan + Shay.

Steal: Tae Lewis

Shay said: “John and Chance tried to steal Tae from us, but Tae knew exactly where he wanted to be. Team Dan + Shay. Team Country.”

Knockouts Round 2: Team Dan + Shay’s Frank Garcia vs Olivia Rubini
Frank Garcia: “El Triste” by José José

Olivia Rubini: “Tiny Dancer” by Elton John

Winner: Olivia Rubini

Shaye said: “There was something special about what Olivia did. She showed us that she was very coachable and ready to go to that next level”

Dan said: “Her voice inherently has a retro thing to it. She was spot-on to follow all her notes.”

Serenity Arce: “Unfaithful” by Rhianna

Winner: Serenity Arce

Battle Round 6: Team Dan + Shay’s Kyle Schuesler vs Anya True
Anya True: “Runaway” by Aurora

Kyle Schuesler: “Say You Won’t Let Go” by James Arthur

Winner: Anya True

Shay said: “We chose Anya because she sings straight from her heart and pulls you in and makes you believe what she’s saying. She has a lot of potential to do really well in this competition.”

Steal: Kyle Schuesler

Chance said: “I was playing the long game, baby. I was just like a leopard waiting to pounce. I knew I was going to get you on my team at some point. I just had to play my cards right. I’ve had my eye on Kyle since day one. My team was full so I couldn’t grab him up. He can do pop, he can do folk, he can do country, he can do anything. I think he can do anything with his voice.”

The Voice airs Monday nights at 8 p.m. ET/PT on NBC, and streams next day on Peacock.
