Meghan Markle previously posed a “sly” 15-word dig directed at the Royal Family whilst discussing her past role on her podcast, Archetypes – and some fans will have completely missed it.

The Duchess of Sussex, who stepped down from duties in 2020 alongside husband Prince Harry, appeared to aim a jibe at the family in the finale episode of her podcast.

Archetypes was released via Spotify in 2021 and only lasted for one series, with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s deal with the major streaming service coming to an end last year.

Meghan used the podcast to reflect on what she had learnt on her journey so far and, in the finale episode released in November 2021, she said: “I feel seen. I had never considered that in using my voice that I would feel seen, but I do.”

She continued: “Many moons ago, I heard a quote that I will share with you today. Because as we talk about labels, tropes, and boxes that some may try to squeeze you into and roles and stereotypes that are attributed to you that don’t quite fit the full person you are.”

The quote that Meghan went on to share came from a piece of writing by Greek poet Dinos Christianopoulos. It reads: “What didn’t you do to bury me, but you forgot that I was a seed.”

In a subtle 15-word dig to the Royal Family, Meghan said: “To that point, my friend, keep growing, and I’ll see you on the flip side.”

Speaking to the Sun, royal biographer and commentator Phil Dampier said that this was a subtle way for Meghan to hit out at the Royal Family.

He said: “I’m sure that it was a veiled reference to the restrictions of the royal family. It’s a clever way of doing it because she’s not directly saying something. People can still read into it what they like. Then, if anyone takes offence, she can say, ‘Oh, I didn’t mean it like that.'”
