Meghan Markle’s blunt response when questioned about return to acting

Speculation has been rife that Meghan Markle plans to return to her previous career but she was once asked outright and she had a very blunt reply.

Meghan Markle was already well known when she joined the Royal Family thanks to her successful career as an actress. The star appeared in legal drama Suits for seven series as Rachel Zane, but famously stepped down from her previous career when she married Prince Harry in 2018.

Since the Duke and Duchess announced their decision to leave royal working life and settle in the US, there has been much speculation about Meghan’s future plans and whether or not she’ll return to Hollywood.

But when she was asked about the topic previously, she gave a very blunt response, as writes the Mirror.

During an interview with Vanity Fair just after Queen Elizabeth’s death in October 2022, Meghan was questioned about her old job.

She said: “I left Suits right after the 100th episode, in 2018. I didn’t think I’d ever be in the entertainment industry again. But the entire culture has changed; streamers have changed things. The ability to create zeitgeist moments like we had in the ’90s — where everyone would tune in at the same time for a show or gather for one moment? — that doesn’t happen anymore.

“When I was doing Suits, that character, Rachel Zane, was in your living room with you while you were in your pyjamas eating Chinese takeout. “That’s how connected the experience felt then. But to create a cultural moment or conversation requires something different today.

“Podcasting has been really interesting in that way. It might be one of the only remaining forums where people are alone to listen. Where else do you have that opportunity?”

Then when she was directly asked if she planned to go back to acting, Meghan replied: “No. I’m done. I guess never say never, but my intention is to absolutely not.”

Meanwhile, Netflix chief content officer Bela Bajaria recently declared the couple are working on a “couple of unscripted things” with the streaming platform, who they have a contract with until 2025.

When asked as she attended a Hollywood event what was next for Harry and Meghan, Bela said: “Oh, what are they working on? They have a couple of unscripted things they’re working on with Brandon.”

She added: “And they actually have, like, a bunch of development, they have a movie in development, a (scripted) series that they’re working on. So all very early development, with a movie, a TV show and a couple of unscripted shows. But yeah, the movie’s great.”
