Wendy Williams, US broadcaster and host of the Wendy Williams Show, made a point of attacking the Duke and Duchess in front of a live audience. During it, Ms Williams tore into Meghan and Harry’s plans, including their interest of moving to Africa.

Ms Williams said: “Harry and Meghan have nothing to lose by moving to America.

“Why not? Move to America and live part time in Africa like you want to do, you have to still go back to England.

“The thing about moving to America is that you’ll really be kicking the royal thing out of your life.

“Have a place in all three places. Have a mansion in Malibu, a big hut — I’ve never been to Africa, I don’t know — a big hotel or wherever you’re gonna live in Africa.

“Then have your royal palace place in England.”

Ms Williams then went on to claim she liked the royal couple, but added: “But her, there’s something about her, you know what I’m saying?”

The broadcaster was dumbfounded at Meghan’s exasperation over the British tabloid’s treatment of her and Harry.

Ms Williams said: “And you know what, girl? Meghan, don’t be surprised at the paparazzi are everywhere.

“Of course, because you’re now a royal.

“They weren’t following you when you were on ‘Suits’ — we didn’t even know who you were, except when you came for employment here at Wendy and wanted to be one of our runway models.

“Meghan, nobody feels sorry for you. You knew what you were signing up for, girl!”

Ms Williams’ comments resulted in a huge backlash, with many royal fans taking to Twitter to vent their anger.

One Twitter user wrote: “Bashing Meghan Markle is so sad and pathetic.

“Women need to support women, especially when it comes to mental health.

“Regardless of the situation always support your sisters, don’t drag them down.

“Only sad people try to paint others in a negative light.”

Another user called out the divisive nature of Ms Williams’ comments, and wrote: “Leave Meghan Markle out of it and stop insinuating she has other motives to be with the man she loves!

“She’s not asking you to feel sorry for her.”

Other users took offence at Ms Williams’ comments over Harry and Meghan living in a “hut” in Africa.

One user wrote: “Wendy Williams is way off base with her Meghan Markle and African ‘hut’ comments today – It’s quite disappointing.”

The comments come after ITV broadcast their documentary following Meghan and Harry on their royal tour of South Africa.

During a segment of the show where Meghan was interviewed, the Duchess admitted that she was seriously feeling the pressure following months of hounding by the British tabloid press.

She said: “Look, any woman, especially when they are pregnant, you’re really vulnerable and so that was made really challenging, and then when you have a new born, you know.

“And especially as a woman, it’s a lot.”

Yesterday, Meghan made her first solo public appearance since the documentary broadcast, attending the opening of the One Young World summit.
