A producer on Suits claimed the Palace were wary of Meghan Markle using the term, fearing clips could be edited to make it look like she was saying something else.
“So, in the episode, Mike and Rachel were going to have a thing, and as a nod to my in-laws, we were going to have her say, ‘My family would say poppycock,'” but he claimed the Royal Family “did not want her saying the word”.
Korsch said he believed the intervention was made over fears the clip could be cut to make it sound as though the Duchess had used a rude word.
“They didn’t want to put the word ‘poppycock’ in her mouth,” he said. “I presume because they didn’t want people cutting things together of her saying ‘c***.”
Korsch explained that as a result “we had to change it to ‘bulls***.'”
One TikTok user said the rumoured move by the Palace was the right call, commenting: “The royals aren’t some celebrity family, they’re the living embodiment of the British state. It’s only right they consider this stuff.”
Meghan and Harry relocated to California after stepping down as senior royals in January 2020.
Another wrote: “I think… smart of the Royal family. The video would definitely be edited in some crazy ways.”
Others pointed out that there was much more in the show the Palace could’ve taken issue with.
“She has a sex scene in the suits so I think words like that, does it matter?” they argued.
Meghan appeared on the hit series about a New York City law firm for seven seasons until she dropped out after meeting Harry.
Though the Duchess is not expected to appear on screen in the series again, its producers say she has expressed interest in working behind the scenes, so it’s possible she could return as a producer or director.
