Kerry Katona shares regret over Brian McFadden friendship after ‘fake’ marriage

Kerry Katona has expressed her regret after not maintaining a friendship with her first husband Brian McFadden, just weeks after she branded their marriage “fake”

Kerry Katona has revealed she wishes she would have been friends with Brian McFadden following their divorce in 2004.

The couple, once dubbed pop royalty, married in 2002 after meeting during their respective days in Atomic Kitten and Westlife, before having two children. Despite their once-happy marriage, they decided to call it a day and have since had no relationship with one another.

Kerry, 42, has now expressed her regret after the pair decided not to have a friendship and previously co-parented their two children, Molly Marie and Lilly-Sue. Her comments come just weeks after Kerry said their marriage may have been a fairytale but the reality was far from it.

In her column for OK! Magazine, she wrote: “I saw that Gary Lineker recently went on holiday with his ex-wife Danielle Bux as friends – I’ve never managed to stay that close with any of my exes! I would have loved to have been like that with my first husband Brian and our children, to have been more supportive of each other.

“I’ve never been able to remain friends with any of my exes but I think it’s a nice thing to be able to co-parent like that. It’s a bit like Demu Moore and Bruce Willis’ relationship – I love that dynamic and how they can still be friends despite being split up.”

During an exclusive chat with the Mirror earlier this month, Kerry discussed her current relationship with Brian, who has since remarried and had more children. She said: ” Obviously first marriage I thought it would last forever, I just went along with it.

“It was just fake, it wasn’t real, it wasn’t meant to be – it wasn’t what I wanted, it was all fake and phoney.” Kerry later explained that while growing up in Warrington, she was “desperate to be loved” and was “desperate to please” but went about things in the “wrong way”.

The television personality continued: “Not seen him (Brian) [since Molly’s 21st birthday] because the girls are grown up now, we’ve got no reason to talk. Not that we really talked, we never really had that kind of close relationship, they’ll ring Ryan before they ring Brian. If they need money, they ring Ryan.

“That’s just how it is, he’s got his own little family now, Ryan pays for Molly’s car insurance. Molly and Ryan have such a great relationship, it’s funny when they’re together.”
