Tom Cruise has broken his silence on his ex-wife Nicole Kidman’s shock split with Keith Urban.

The 63-year-old movie star, who was married to Nicole for 11 years from 1990–2001, has reportedly said Nicole’s split with Keith is ‘karma’ for the way she treated him after their own breakup. The Mission Impossible star is said to have been following news of ex Nicole’s divorce ‘closely.’

“When Tom and Nicole split, he caught all the blame and she got all the sympathy. He was painted as the bad guy … that stuck with him for years,’ an insider told International Business Times.

“Tom was really stung by the way Nicole handled their break-up. She went on TV, made digs about his height, and painted herself as the victim, while he stayed silent and took the hits.”

They added that the actor felt ‘proven right’ now that Nicole has split from her second husband. It annoyed him when this guy was painted as this saintly figure who’d swooped in on a white horse, so to speak, and rescued Nicole from the hellish memory of their marriage,” they said.

“He’s following the divorce news closely, and a part of him feels badly for her, since he knows how much she’s hurting. At the same time, he’s also allowing himself a little pat on the back and telling people close to him that this is karma doing its thing. Bottom line: He thought they were a hyped up couple who clearly had very little in common from the get-go — now he’s been proved right.”

The Mirror has contacted Tom Cruise’s representative for comment.

Tom and Nicole had been one of the It couples of the 90s, before their shock split in 2001. Nicole reportedly left after refusing to convert their children Conor and Isabella to Scientology – which Cruise had become enthralled by.

In 2006, Tom married actress Katie Holmes, and shares daughter Suri, 19, with her, however they split in 2012. Tom is now estranged from Katie and Suri.

Oscar winner Nicole Kidman filed for divorce from husband Keith Urban on Tuesday after 19 years of marriage in October. In papers filed in Nashville Nicole cited ‘marital difficulties and irreconcilable differences’ for the split.

According to sources, Nicole was “blindsided” by Keith’s desire to split and was spotted still happily wearing her wedding ring just days before filing for divorce.

After news of the divorce broke, an insider claimed to press that Nicole’s sister, Antonia, and the rest of the Kidman family had raced to the actress’ side to support her through a separation she “didn’t want”.

Though Nicole was the one to file for divorce, the source explained that, until very recently, she was still trying to make things work. “She didn’t want this,” they told People. “She has been fighting to save the marriage.” Nicole reportedly made several attempts to save the marriage, but couldn’t as Keith was already “done”.

The court filings revealed details of the couple’s custody agreement. Nicole will get their daughters for 306 days a year, while Keith is left with only 59. Keith and Nicole share daughters Sunday, 17, and Faith, 15, together.

Based on the document, Keith only gets to have his daughters for every other weekend, Father’s Day and Thanksgiving, making up just under two months in total.

The document also stipulated that the pair are not allowed to “speak badly” of each other and should “encourage” their daughters to have good relationships with both their parents.

Sources in the US say Keith has already moved on to someone else. One said: “All the signs point to the fact Keith is with another woman. Let’s just say, Nicole doesn’t dispute that, but she’s still shocked over it.”

Sources say Keith’s new girlfriend is ‘younger’ than Nicole but her identity so far remains a mystery.

A clip of Keith changing lyrics to a song he wrote for Nicole have also resurfaced. In the video, Keith is singing The Fighter but changed the lyrics from “Baby I’ll be your fighter” to “Maggie I’ll be your guitar player”.

Maggie Baugh, his 25-year-old guitarist, posted the clip to her Instagram with the caption: “Did he just say that.”
