Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and his new wife Jodie Haydon have spent their honeymoon in a $3,000-a-night hotel suite on a famous Australian island.
The newlyweds stayed at the luxurious Southern Ocean Lodge on Kangaroo Island off the coast of South Australia after tying the knot in Canberra on Saturday.
Suites at the upmarket hotel cost upwards of $8,000-a-night, with the couple staying in a slightly more modest $3,000-a-night room, The Advertiser reports.
They enjoyed a nightly four-course menu paired with premium local wines from the lodge’s well-stocked walk-in cellar, as well as panoramic views of Hanson Bay.
Kangaroo Island Mayor Michael Pengilly said he hoped the couple enjoyed their four-night despite criticising a previous visit Albanese made to the island.
In August, Mr Pengilly accused the prime minister of staging a ‘photo op’ in the midst of the state’s algal bloom crisis.
Despite the PM pledging $8.5million in new funding while visiting the Thebarton research laboratory, the mayor slammed the visit as ‘discourteous’.
‘We hope they enjoyed their stay. Next time he comes back, he can bring some money for infrastructure,’ he said of the latest visit.

Kangaroo Island has hosted celebrities including Katy Perry, Orlando Bloom, and Oprah Winfrey, who toured the island in 2010.
Deputy Prime Minister Richard Marles served as Acting Prime Minister while Albanese was on his honeymoon.
The couple met at a conference in 2020 when Albanese asked if any South Sydney fans were in the audience, at which Ms Haydon responded with the team’s catch cry, ‘up the Rabbitohs’.
They were married in a small and intimate affair in front of 80 guests at The Lodge in Canberra on Saturday.
The venue holds significant meaning for the couple, who got engaged on the residence’s balcony on Valentine’s Day 2024 after a romantic Italian dinner.
