Kate Beckinsale has entered the New Year on her own terms – unapologetic, eccentric and emotionally raw.

The 52-year-old actress shared a striking Instagram montage from an overseas getaway, posing in a pink bikini, towering platform boots, a chiffon robe and even a tiara as she fed raccoons on the beach.

Known for her colourful sense of style, Kate also showed off her flexibility in playful snaps and appeared in delicate white silk pyjamas. But behind the defiant glamour was a far more painful truth.

In an emotional video shared with fans, Kate addressed cruel comments about her slim figure, admitting it hurt deeply to see people criticise her appearance at a time of profound grief. She said it would never occur to her to see someone clearly suffering and then write something nasty about how they look, adding that she wished those critics had been raised with the same kindness and compassion she experienced growing up.

Kate openly described 2025 as an unbearably hard year, admitting she felt torn about letting it go because it was also the last year her “incredible mum” was alive. She spoke through tears about witnessing the deaths of the people she loved most, from watching her father die of a sudden heart attack when she was just five, to later losing both her stepfather and mother.

Reflecting on grief, Kate said such overwhelming suffering doesn’t leave space for hunger, explaining that shock and trauma can shut the body down entirely. She shared a poignant illustration alongside her post, reading: “Sometimes this is what resilience looks like.”

Despite the pain, her New Year post felt like an act of quiet defiance – choosing self-expression over shame, and honesty over silence.
