From unexpected tumbles during live weather reports to moments filled with very cheeky innuendo, Carol’s slip-ups became part of her charm. “Live TV does not forgive,” she once laughed after a particularly awkward moment, while a co-host famously joked, “That’s one forecast no one saw coming.” Tough, unfiltered, and always game, Carol proved that even when things went wrong, she owned the moment — and that honesty is exactly why viewers loved her for decades.
BBC weather legend Carol Kirkwood revealed today that she will be stepping back from her role on the BBC in April after more than 25 years with the broadcaster.

Greenwich Park ‘doggers’
Back in 2020, Carol left viewers laughing with a very cheeky innuendo as she told viewers there were a lot of ‘doggers’ out in Greenwich Park.
Hosting the weather broadcast live from the sunny park in London’s south east, she was seen standing in front of the greenery as she told fans: ‘What a view we have.’
She continued: ‘Fabulous! The sun is beating down, we’ve seen lots of doggers.’
The weather presenter was quick to correct herself for the slip of the tongue, adding: ‘Not doggers of course, there’s lots of dog walkers and joggers.’
BBC viewers were delighted by the moment, and took to X to react, with one saying: ‘Did make me cough up my cornflakes this morning!’
Carol was quick to apologise to viewers, taking to X to respond: ‘That will teach me to try and say joggers and dog walkers in the same sentence!!! Sorry.’

BBC Breakfast’s Carol Kirkwood left viewers in stitches after she accidentally announced she had seen ‘lots of doggers’ during a live segment of the morning show today.

Ambushed by guide dogs in training
Carol had already suffered two embarrassing blunders after being ambushed by dogs live on air in previous broadcasts.
In 2023, she was dragged across the screen by a dog for the THIRD time – as three adorable Labrador puppies clambered all over her, and nibbled her microphone.
The meteorologist joined live from a Guide Dog puppy centre to present her segment and remained the ultimate professional as the playful pups climbed over her and chewed her hair.
During her live report, Carol was seen saying: ‘We’re in for a treat because they’re absolutely adorable as you can see and they’re so playful as well.
‘The puppies have been woken up early this morning just for us, with a lovely start to the day for them too… come on you little scamp… whoops get off my mic, you little monkey!’
The puppies didn’t stop for Carol as they kept on tugging and pulling at her hair and mic as she continued her segment.
BBC Breakfast presenter Sally Nugent later praised Carol for remaining professional after the hilarious puppy attack.

Dragged across the screen by dog
In 2023, Carol was dragged to the floor by a dog during a live Wimbledon report, leaving her co-stars in hysterics back in the studio.
The meteorologist joined the studio via video link from the famous London tennis club, alongside an excitable search dog named Ray.
But things soon descended into chaos when Ray sprinted off with a tennis ball in his mouth, leaving Carol on her hands and knees on the floor.
Just after praising the pooch for his good behaviour, Carol was dragged off camera by the spaniel and broke down into fits of giggles live on air.
‘Oh no!’ Jon Kay exclaimed, while Sally Nugent shouted: ‘Oh Carol! It’s happened again. Is she ok? Are you OK? Are you alright?’
Speaking through hysterical laughter, Carol managed to squeeze out a ‘yes,’ before adding: ‘I can’t believe it’s happened again! It’s the Chelsea Flower Show all over again!’

Falling at the Chelsea Flower Show
Back in 2021, Carol was dragged to the floor by a guide dog during a live weather report from London’s the Chelsea Flower Show.
She ended up being taken out by the excitable hound leaving her co-presenter Dan Walker in hysterics back in the studio.
Carol had just given the forecast from Chelsea ahead of the annual Flower Show when the golden Labrador named Flash tugged at the lead and toppled her over.
A flustered Dan exclaimed, watching on from the studio: ‘We’ve got a Kirkwood down! We’ve got a Kirkwood down! Someone save Carol!’
‘Flash is strong!’ laughed Carol as she got back onto her knees and put her earpiece back in. ‘Yes, she’s a very strong girl, Flash.’
The blunder happened just moments after Carol declared that Flash was ‘very well behaved’ as she delivered the weather report alongside her.

Warning about flying ‘balls’
BBC Breakfast hosts Naga Munchetty and Charlie Stayt struggled to keep a straight face as Carol made a very cheeky innuendo about ‘balls’ back in 2020.
Delivering the weather report from the studio, Carol advised viewers they were in for miserable week of weather with more rain and wind on the way.
She soon made a reference to Naga’s love of all things sports, telling viewers it was advisable to avoid a game of tennis as ‘balls would be blowing everywhere’.
Naga was seen cracking up in the studio, as Carol quickly clarified to viewers: ‘TENNNIS balls will be flying everywhere.’
Panning back to the studio, the cameras showed Naga with her hand over her mouth trying to stifle her laughs, as Charlie continued to deliver the news bulletin.
Carol’s disappearing dress
Back in 2019, Carol left viewers at home laughing when the green dress she was wearing merged into the green screen behind her, and left her as a floating head.
Standing in front of the studio green screen to present the segment, which shows the weather on a moving map behind her, the presenter appeared just as a head as her dress blended in with the background in a behind-the-scenes shot shared on X.
The meteorologist was quick to poke fun at the moment, and headed to the social media site after spotting the blunder before going on air that left viewers at home laughing.
‘This is why we don’t wear green in front of the green screen,’ she penned to her fans, admitting she had to change her outfit before going live on air.
